I went here almost every other day for 3 weeks, very consistent. Service was decent and ambiance was decent. Tried most of the apps and Thai dishes...all very good. My favs were pad thai (very good), drunken noodles, cashew nut, and pad pra ka or something. The food and service were very disappointing. The staff was rude and did not allow us to change the spice level. They kept insisting that outside drinks were not allowed. We explained that the cups were empty and we could not find a trash bin nearby, and even offered for them to throw them away, but they refused and repeated the same rule. This was the worst Thai food I have had. I ordered panang curry, and the chicken was very dry. The drunken noodles were unusual, and the oil used did not taste right and upset my stomach. This was my first visit to Asian Garden. I visited early so there was plenty of parking and I was seated right away. The inside is spacious and has a nice set up, however, it does have a damp mildew smell. I got a Thai tea to drink and spring rolls. The tea was perfect, not watered down with a nice bold flavor and just the right amount of sweetness and cream. The spring rolls were also delicious! I was unfortunately disappointed in my Tom Yum shrimp soup. It was pretty bland and lacking in flavor. The broth was very watered down and I could barely taste the lemongrass. So glad we decided to stop here! My family and I decided to come down the mountain and try one of the few Asian restaurants there is in Alamogordo, we were NOT DISAPPOINTED! My husband ordered the Drunken Noodles and the Sushi Sampler (they have two size options). The noodles were jam packed with flavor and both him and my daughters thoroughly enjoyed the Sushi, my daughter mentioned the sushi wasn't fishy at all, she said it tasted very fresh and was pleasant to the palate. The yellow Curry and Chicken Thai Fried Rice also came in generous portions and were delicious and satisfying. The star of the show for me was the Hot Pot soup we ordered. It was $14, and was enough for three people. It comes in either shrimp or chicken and they have two broth options. We opted for the coconut milk one with cilantro and WOW WAS IT DELICIOUS!! Honestly, I will be going back for that Hot Pot alone. They have a variety of drink options, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The Thai Tea my daughter had was super refreshing and creamy. My husband and I had the Fuji Apple Sake and Pear and they were so smooth and sweet, the Sake was delicious. The service was great, our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable with her recommendations for food. The prices were $10 and up but that seems to be the norm nowadays. If you're in the mood for some Thai/Japanese food give this place a try. Step out of your comfort bubble and try out some new things from the menu, you might just surprise your taste buds! We were very hungry after hiking in white sands national park and this is one of the very few vegan friendly places in the area. The restaurant was empty when we entered and despite that it took quite some time for us to get the order. The staff were very accommodating to make the food vegan. The food wasn't to bad the vegetable tempura was soggy and not crispy the drunken seafood noodles didn't have enough sauce and I did ask for extra but wasn't given any. But it did have really good flavor it was almost like a black peppery taste which I did really enjoy. My husband ordered the crab roll and it wasn't tight it just fell apart but was pretty good in flavor he also ordered the pork Thai fried rice and he said that he really enjoyed it. Soup was nasty bland ! Even the salad was terrible. Looks like they just took a few pieces of bag lettuce and put it in the bowl. Ordered salmon/scallops fried rice with veggies. When I arrrived Easter afternoon, it was almost empty but as time went on a couple of more people showed up. The waitress was nice. She was 1 of only 2 waitress. I ordered a volcano roll at 16.99 and egg drop soup. I asked for Masego on the sushi which is the way I always order it here. The waitress informed me it would be an extra charge and I agreed. When she told the sushi chef he refused saying it was too expensive! When she returned to the table to inform me of his decision I asked what sushi normally has Masaka on it she named two rolls., one of which is a spicy girl at the cost of 1.00 more than what I ordered. The spicy girl, sushi and the volcano roll have very similar ingredients. The egg drop soup was darker than normal mainly orange not yellow and it seemed to have an oily texture. The crunchy's they give for the soup were delicious. The sushi was disappointing and to be honest my appetite was extremely diminished after hearing that the chef felt it was too expensive for me (I was eating alone) As I stated earlier, this is the way I always order it, and I have always received Masego when requested. I'm very disappointed in this business. I have been there multiple times in the past and they have always been kind about subbing fish out for something vegetarian in my favorite rolls. This last time they outright refused. It's not difficult to leave out salmon and add cucumber or tofu. It was the only place in town that I could get good vegetarian sushi up until now, they even hosted the local vegetarian group for an event a few years back. Never been to this restaurant before and won't be going back. I ordered pork pad thai and asked the waitress to get it spicy. I got the dish and the pork was so dry it was like chewing card board, there was little to no sauce on the noodles and not one bit of spice. I ate 3 bites. 15 minutes later I finally got the waitresses attention and told her it was horrible and I wasn't going to eat it. She said ok and took it away. She never asked if she could replace it or anything. Then she came over to give me my bill and wanted me to pay for something I didn't eat. We got seated at the bar & it took an additional 10-15 minutes before a server came up to us to get drinks & food - so service was definitely on the slower side around here. But on to the stuff that matters... the food! The Thai Tea was delicious. I got the Thai fried rice & it was a good price, filling, and good. Honestly what made this dining experience so great was our group tried to pay, but it turns out someone had already paid our entire bill! Food was delicious. Large portion sizes. Prices were fair. Our server was funny. It is a very casual place with plenty of parking in their lot. They offer Japanese and thai dishes. Zero complaints. So I compared this place with Bangkok Tokyo and I honestly prefer Bangkok Tokyo because the food has more flavor. The sushi at Bangkok was also slightly better. Incredible slow service. I ordered the tom kah and it was extremely milky. I expected more flavor but mostly tasted coconut milk. It did not come with a rice so when I ordered the rice it took almost 10 minutes before I received the rice. Before the pandemic, we ventured to this place for sushi and were delightfully surprised -- it was both good and fresh! Fast forward to 2023. Still fresh and good, but very skimpy. I ordered a typical rainbow roll: wrapped in yellowtail, tuna and salmon. Well, there was no yellowtail, and the tuna and salmon were surgically cut to about a 1/8 inch thickness. Better than bangkok Tokyo when it comes to the taste of the sushi itself, including the ones they sell at Albertson's store bought kinds. This place has some of the best asian food in the world. Yes, the world. Staffing can sometimes be a problem, but at least after you wait, you have an amazing meal. Also, keep in mind, it's hard to find help these days so cut them some slack. I have had a hard time finding good Asian food I am very particular about it so after reading the reviews on Asian Garden I decided to just bite the bullet and try it out. That was about a month ago and since then we have returned several times mainly for take out but we have also eaten in. So far we have tried the pad Thai, drunken noodles, sweet and sour chicken, spring rolls, hollowman roll, hibachi plate, panang curry, rice and pad kra Pao, everything has always been piping hot and fresh. I have yet to try anything that I haven't liked.... the panang is both mine and my husbands favorites it is so yummy.....
