March 28, 2025, I went to Aspen Dental in Glen Carbon, IL for routine dental work following a consultation a few days earlier. I was advised to undergo periodontal treatment and a tooth extraction, which I approved ahead of my Friday appointment. After being taken back, I was given numbing injections to prepare for the periodontal procedure. However, I was then left alone in the chair for over 45 minutes with no one checking on me. Knowing the office closes early on Fridays, I became concerned as time kept passing. Eventually, a technician came in and completed what was supposed to be a full periodontal treatment in about 15 minutes for all four quadrants. I've had this procedure done multiple times before, and it has always taken well over an hour. When she began finishing up, I asked if the treatment was complete, and she said yes. I also asked about polishing, and she told me it wasn't included. At that point, I could hear staff rushing around. When I asked what time they closed, I was told they were closing in 10 minutes--which explained why the procedure felt rushed, especially after I had already been left waiting for so long. I was also supposed to have an extraction done that day. A few days later, I called the office to report that my teeth still felt like there was debris left behind from the "treatment." I was scheduled to come back in, and after new X-rays were taken, it was clear that significant areas had been missed and needed to be redone. I spoke with the office manager and expressed my dissatisfaction with the poor quality of care, especially given the high cost. We agreed that I would be refunded all out-of-pocket expenses, and only the periodontal treatment would be billed to insurance, with all other services (extraction, flipper, etc.) refunded. I saw refunds issued back to my credit card, so I assumed everything--including the insurance refund--had been handled. However, when I went to another dentist recently, I found out Aspen Dental never refunded the insurance company as promised. I called to speak with the office manager, but was told she had just joined a conference call. The person I spoke with immediately became defensive and claimed they could not issue refunds for services already rendered. She also stated she was not present when the original agreement was made. This entire experience has been frustrating and unprofessional--from rushed and incomplete treatment to poor follow-through and lack of accountability. A rather uncomfortable piece of equipment was shoved into my mouth before I was under. The area just under my nose is numb. I still have two bits of bone making denture wearing painful. When I left the office after surgery, along with plenty of cotton stuffing, they shoved my temporary dentures into my mouth. Why? My temporary dentures would not stay in after visits to correct the problem. No one was really rude, but I got the impression they were in a hurry. my disabled daughter had a toothache for a week .I finally got her an appointment at aspen. Since she is in a wheelchair we have to schedule the ACT bus to go anywhere. when we arrived for our appointment at 10:30 the rude reception told me they had tried to call to cancel the appointment the day before. when I told her no one had called she repeated my phone number which was not even my number. no explanation as to why the appointment was cancelled. I told her my daughter had a very bad toothache. Was told they were all booked up. absolutlely no compassion at all. We had to wait for an hour and a half for another bus to pick us up.After reading some of the reviews I am glad we didn't get this appointment. Very rude uncaring person at the desk. read more

I used Aspen for a couple of years and have always paid my bills with them. My last visit I paid my bill in full ($134.00). To my surprise they turned me into collection for $22.00, so I called them to ask why and was told that they send me notice by mail and text. Never received either. Only notice I have ever received about this was through a collection agency. I did let Aspen know I was finished with them and would no longer be a patient of Aspen Dental. They lost a patient over $22 knowing I had an appointment coming up that they could have talked to me about the money I owed. Goodbye Aspen! read more

I scheduled my dental cleaning 6 months ago and even got a text and email reminder yesterday about my appointment today at 7 pm. I showed up, doors were locked, and this sign was on the door. Drove 30 minutes to this appt, moved my work schedule around, and had to find a sitter for my daughter to show up to locked doors. This is absolutely ridiculous that a business operates this way. I understand from the note that the scheduling system is down, but SOMEHOW, you have to have access to be able to call in advance and cancel my appt??? If not, keep a receptionist there to AT LEAST address people showing up for their appts walking in. I tried calling and no answer, then I got the centralized scheduler who answered and had no answers for me other than their scheduling system has been having issues for TWO WEEKS. Why didn't someone stay at the front desk until 8 pm to address people coming in? Don't close early and leave people unhappy. Whoever owns these Aspen Dentals are complete idiots. I will never be back again. Thank you for a whole wasted evening, a babysitting bill, money spent in gas, time away from work, and my kid for nothing. (For reference, the last appt I had in the fall they sent me an email reminder about and I showed up and they turned me away because they said I didn't have an appointment even though I had an email confirmation. Absolutely ridiculous). Go to a dentist who actually cares about their patients, don't waste your time here. And clearly by the other reviews, Aspen has not addressed this concern with the manager or owner of this location! Unfortunately, I had a very unpleasant experience with Aspen Dental in Glen Carbon, Illinois. I only sought out this dentist after my dental insurance changed and my original dentist was not in network. I phoned the office and scheduled what I thought was a new client appointment AND a cleaning. When I arrived, things went well enough. I filled out the paperwork, had x-rays taken, and sat in the chair. That's when things began to decline. The hygienist came in and assessed my gum health. She explained that my gums were healthy and I had nothing to be concerned about. Another hygienist (? I am not sure what her role was) read my x-rays that were just completed and indicated that nothing looked out of place or of concern, but needed clarification on some of the teeth that had been filled by my previous dentist. The hygienist completed her assessment of my gums, and the dentist came in. He then proceeded to ask me about the issues that I was having with my TMJ. Instead of listening to my responses, he continued to try to push me purchasing a night guard, but this was not appropriate for my dental history and my sleeping patterns as I am a mouth-breather (bad allergies). I attempted to explain that I carry my stress in my jaw and only experience tension and pain every once in a great while. He made the comment about me "living a life without stress." I had to clarify that it's not that I didn't have stress, but I have found ways to better cope with the stress that I have had. After he finally understood that I was not going to get the mouth guard, he asked me how satisfied I am with my smile. I explained that I felt very satisfied as I have naturally straight or straighter teeth. He then attempted to push orthodontia and asked me if I would consider getting orthodontia. I, again, had to adamantly refuse getting braces. Finally, the dentist poked his fingers in my mouth. He did not appear to even look at my x-rays and indicated that I had a cavity underneath the fillings that were previously filled by my original dentist. He proceeded to explain how the filling element was not as smooth as the original tooth and, because of that, the decay and cavities can continue to grow. He indicated that I would be able to set up dates to get these matters addressed. When the dentist left, the hygienist proceeded to take off the bib. Confused, I asked about the cleaning. She indicated that it required a separate appointment for this. Frustrated, I explained my confusion as this is not a typical occurrence even for new patients at other dental facilities, but I looked past it and figured it was just policy. I met with a receptionist or whoever to talk about my care plan. She quoted me the cost of filling two cavities would cost almost $700. Insurance would cover it to make it about $230, but my insurance wasn't going to cover minor fixes for another six months. This receptionist or treatment planner or whatever urged me to get it fixed now (with no financial help) because if I waited six months, the cavities could get worse and then I would need to get a crown or a root canal, which my insurance wouldn't cover for twelve months. I didn't schedule a cleaning or anything. After I left, I immediately went to my original dentist to get a second opinion, especially since they were the ones who originally fixed the cavity. Luckily, they were able to fit me in for not only a cleaning but an exam that day. They took x-rays and they examined my teeth both visually (in my mouth and with the x-ray) and with a tool that emits light to detect decay. Long story short, guess who didn't have any cavities. Point is, I felt like this particular branch was only saw me as a dollar sign. There wasn't any care, compassion, or treatment. They pushed items that I didn't need or want and suggested care that would have been unnecessary if I would have actually followed through with it. Point is, I will NEVER be referring anyone to Aspen Dental. In fact, I will probably voluntarily tell people, even if they aren't looking for a dentist, to not utilize Aspen Dental. I had a terrible experience with Dr. Alex Wojtyna at Aspen Dental in Glen Carbon, illinois. He was very rude and inappropriate. He questioned me why if I have a job do I not have insurance. He also told me my teeth are awful and have not been taken care of, which is not true, I've only had 2 cavities in 42 years. While putting the cold air on my teeth he asked me if it hurts, I replied no several times, at this time he took a metal piece and hit my tooth hard and said, "i bet that hurt didn't it". Yes of course it did, because he hit my infected wisdom tooth. Lots of things were said to me and insinuated during my exam. At last he said I'm not pulling your tooth until you get these teeth cleaned, period. I have never known a Dr to refuse care, for a useless wisdom tooth. I'm not against getting my teeth cleaned, however, i was there for the horrible pain i was in. Since i couldn't afford the $1700 payment to get what i needed done, he left the room without any other offer or idea, such as extracting the tooth and schedule a cleaning. Nothing to help with infection or pain, he just said, so money is a problem, got up and walked out. I left that office crying pretty hard, simply because i was in so much pain, humiliated, and with nothing to show for it. had an appointment scheduled and received a voicemail, email and text reminding me of this appointment. I walk in before my appointment time and give the receptionist my name only to be told I didn't have an appointment. When I try to explain I had confirmation of the appointment the dentist yells rudely our system is down. I was already aware since all three forms of communication indicated this. Finally the manager confirms I did in fact have an appointment. I go back and have to explain again what I'm there for, just a cleaning. The girl comes back and says I'm sorry but we don't see you have an appointment. I then explain again I have three forms of communication that confirm the appointment. She comes back and then says well because we can't confirm what you are scheduled to have done we have to do full x-rays. Because I already had an issue at the Alton location with x-rays and insurance not covering the billed amount I asked if they could confirm this would be covered. Because if not I'm not willing to pay for unnecessary things. She then goes and gets the dentist, Alexander Wojtyna who tells me again their system is down, no apology by the way and bluntly says that whatever x-rays they do I'll be responsible and insurance should cover. From the moment I entered Alexander Wojtyna was rude and condescending. I've never been to a dentist who treated their patients with such rudeness. I walked out. Don't waste your money here! This is a turn and burn chain dental office and they do not care about you or your concerns! 2019-I chose this dental office after my insurance changed and my dentist was out of network. I was in need of an implant so I paid 100% up front for the services to complete this. Had I known what I was about to encounter I would of never completed my dental needs here. Dr Wojtyna chairside manner needs work! Lots of it! That was the least of the problems I encountered in this office. I had to go in several times because my temporary implant kept falling out and what was supposed to be a two week wait for the permanent implant turned into 2 months. When I went in to get my permanent implant, the assistant tried to pull the wrong tooth. When I told her she was pulling on the wrong one, she argued with me! The last assistant who put in the notes, put in the wrong number tooth to extract and she was going to believe the note over the patient's word. I had to return after my permanent implant because it also fell out. The last straw for me was when I went in for my annual cleaning and was told by the front desk attendant that I HAD to have a deep cleaning and the regular cleaning wasn't an option. WHAT?!!! I understand a recommendation for what's best for the patient but to tell me I HAD to do this is unprofessional, like the other events I encountered in the office. On my way out, I had decided this was the last time I would be using this office for my dental needs. I asked to speak to a manger and was told she's not available and they would pass the message along. I NEVER received a call back. Was also told on my last visit I needed two cavities filled. I changed to a private practice where I immediately noticed a huge change in customer service and the dentist only found 1 cavity and said the rest of my teeth looked fine. I will NEVER recommend Aspen dental in Illinois or Missouri to anyone as they are owned and run by the same dentist and staff. This all happened pre covid. read more

First you guys lured my father thinking you guys cared about his mouth, setting him up with a plan to make payments for all the work being done. You told him he needed all his teeth removed immediately. So he trusted you guys thinking he was getting taken care of. Bone spur after bone spur once the operation was done. At least 8 of them and are still occurring. He never missed payments for a year and had a bone spur sticking out his gum to a point where it was jabbing into the side of his mouth. Also had one at the top of his mouth that they told him they couldn't do anything about cause it would affect his breathing whichwas absolutely false. He had an appointment to get it removed just to be canceled on twice. So after he finally gets up there they tell him he has to have the remaining money that he owes to do any more work. So he was left with multiple bone spurs, rough spots all over and now have to go somewhere else to get it fixed. The dentures didn't even fit and were uncomfortable. This was the worst experience I think we could've had. Seems like they care at first to just get you into the door for you to owe money. Work was absolutely horrible. Would not recommend at all. First time to visit an Aspen Dental office. My visit i the front office started off fine. The receptionist was okay. The person that took me back was initially fine until she started with the X-rays. She didn't seem to care that everyone's mouth isn't the same size. She didn't display any type of understanding that I was in pain and infact direct hit my tooth with the wand she used to scan around in my mouth. I pushed her hand away because it hurt like hell. She didn't even apologize! I work with patients everyday and having empathy and compassion is just common sense. She did not display either. Unfortunately, I met the dentist after having experienced the dispassionate person and I was hurting worse by this time. He was very through in explaining my options and helpful in starting my root canal process. He apologized for his staff and was very helpful. He started the root canal process and, due to my schedule, even made an appointment for me to have it completed in another location more convenient for me. I appreciate him getting me in at the last minute. The number of stars would have been greater than 3 stars if the one encounter with the X-ray tech had realized that she was actually working with a real live human being. read more

I went there to get dentures they say money back guarantee. That is a joke went there after they did wax fitting which dentist put wax in my mouth which was too big and made a sore on my lip in corner of mouth. I keep telling them that the dentures are too big. I told them from get go that I wanted the same dentures that I got f I'm a different place a 11 years ago. Aspen charged me out of pocket and also charged my insurance for dentures that I am not happy with have not been able to use since I got them. I have been three time since the dentures last fitting. Before I went the last time I told them I either wanted my money back or brand new dentures. They brought me in during this shut down just to do more adjustments which is when I find out they did not even have my bite lined up. They took xrays and said my teeth and gums were fine. 4 months later, I have an abscess it was a very painful infection with a lot of swelling, and the dentist showed me where the infection was easily visible on the xray from 4 months prior. Now I need possibly 2 teeth pulled because of that same infection but this could have been prevented had the dentist not had such a heavy workload. They have 2 dentists for what Is actually the workload suitable for 3 or 4 dentists. You can tell this by how they dont have any openings when you tell them it's an emergency and you have to wait four days. DONT EVER GO HERE!!! read more

I have been having tooth sensitivity particularly on my right side for over a year. I made my first appointment for a cleaning and check-up at the Glen Carbon location and I was told to switch to a sensitive tooth paste for my aches... I went to the Aspen Dental location in Bridgeton yesterday and mentioned that I was still having tooth sensitivity. He pulled up my X-rays from last August that I had done at the Glen Carbon location and immediately noticed that i had multiple cavities on my right side that had penetrated my enamel. I don't understand how this was completely missed almost a year ago?? My dental health is very important to me and because these cavities were overlooked, they have been untreated for nearly a year and I have experienced a lot of pain. I am extremely disappointed that my health was not made a priority and my cavities have probably only worsened in the meantime! I am extremely dissatisfied and untrusting of the services that I have received. I will need to have cavities fixed that should have been treated a year ago. Not a happy customer at all. read more

Ok.well when we visited aspen dental the staff was very nice to us and our child.Before we got to go back tho I was checking the time on my phone and could feel somebody staring at me...When I looked up I seen some bitter faced chubby guy staring at me for no reason like a piece of lunch meat.when we made it to the back he was rude and asked questions that had nothing to do with why we were there and when he did ask about your teeth his answers were careless and extremely rude this dentist was opposite of what I expected.Since we've left this poor quality dentist office they have kept calling and harassing even tho we made it obvious we weren't coming back. 3K for denture that would fit a horse but I can barely fit in my mouth. They REFUSED to listen to my complaints. I can't wear the bottom plate at all, it's simply to big for my mouth. The uppers are twice the length of my natural teeth were. I have my old upper to prove it. I CAN'T EAT ANYTHING TOUGHER TO CHEW THAN MASHED POTATOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was a new patient and it took 40 minutes to take x-rays. The hygienist had no idea what she was doing and kept apologizing, and I kept assuring her that it was ok. It wasn't until after my time with the dentist that I knew this office was a complete scam. I marked on my sheet that I had very slight sensitivity to cold on my lower left molars (expecting that they'd recommend some sensitivity toothpaste). I just went in for a cleaning, left with the dentist trying to convince me that I needed a root canal and sent me to the front desk to make the appointment and figure out financing for this $800 (after insurance) operation. The dentist hadn't look at my x-rays or my teeth for even 5 minutes before coming to the conclusion I needed a root canal, but kept insisting that otherwise my teeth and gums were "completely healthy!" I'm 20 years old, by the way. She sent me to their financing desk to schedule the root canal AND wisdom teeth removal (which I had already told them I was waiting to do), I finally asked if I could get my teeth cleaned after 90 minutes of being there. I was so freaked out that I began asking around town about their office. Turns out they're pretty well known for scamming patients, particularly seniors. I heard a number of horror stories about unnecessary root canals and teeth extractions for dentures. Go figure, that's where they make most of their money. I have had nothing but problems with this office since switching from another dentist last year including lost impressions, changing prices after treatment plan was set up, long waits even with appointments, rude staff members, etc. I've recently begun dealing with a regional manager from a different office who has promised a significant refund. I have been unable to follow up on that as I have been out of the country for sometime. At my last appointment, to rectify the problem of the lost impressions, I met the new dentist for that office. He seems okay, so we will see if the problems are rectified. Regardless, once my current treatment is complete, I will be seeking out another dentist. Hopefully an office that truly cares about their patients and their time/money. read more
