The worst restaurant that I had experienced with. Me and my friends were having dinner on last weekend. Table utensils were extremely dirty with delayed replacement. Foods were normal that you wouldn't have any surprise. However, this is not the reason I am giving the feedback. The manager's attitude was the horrible experience that I had in my life. By the time we almost checked out, one of my friends just found out that her jacket, sweater and personal bag got all the stains everywhere. Later on, we figured out that was the spilled while the water was passing through the foods without awareness. In fact, this is a very normal mistake that could happen anywhere throughout in hospitality. However, the way that the manager handled was disgusting. She told us this was a normal human mistake when she stepped in then promised that she would compensate the dry clean fees but definitely wouldn't pay another jacket. Also saying that no one would file a lawsuit for this small case. I was totally shocked by her saying and didn't feel her sincerely apology at all. Of course, we wouldn't accept this kind of solution. We asked her to pay about half portion of the meal plus my friend's dry clean. She stepped away and had us wait almost 30 min then came back with a stronger attitude. Stating that the half portion of the meals was impossible and the least she could do was waived my friend's portion of the meal and the fee of the dry clean. By dropping down the bill and stating that she wouldn't see us again in the restaurant then turned around, walked away. What a shame on her! Is this the appropriate hospitality service in one of the award restaurants??? Seriously??? I would strongly not recommend anyone to stop by this restaurant. read more

Haven't been to Assagio since it changed owners and was renovated and it looks great, love what they have done. We had to sit in the basement - which I didn't love and specified on my rez that we wanted a table on the main floor. But, whatever...the menu is good, the bruschetta we got was delicious. Overall the food was good and I will go back and recommend - the only thing I didn't really like was the fact that our entree's came out and were served in frying pans. I just didn't love that presentation - just give me a regular plate and stop with this whole sauté pan on the table. read more

We will not be coming back. First of all, they told us that we would be seated right away. We double checked to see if they really meant that....they said yes. We waited for 25 minutes. After being seated, it took an awkward amount of time for the server to ask about water (to find out if we wanted tap or sparkling). When the water finally came (from a separate runner) we waited ten minutes for our server to come and ask what we wanted. My sangria tasted like it was 70% lime juice, 20% red dye, and 10% cheap alcohol. I sent it back, and then it took 20 minutes for another to come my way. Our food came at a decent time, so I'll give them that, but i had already finished my meal by the the time the new drink came. I sent it back again. The manager came over to offer the drink on the house which was very nice. We set aside about 1.5 for our dinner experience and were approaching that as we asked for a check. Made a pilgrimage to Boston's North end for my birthday and wanted to find a special place for dinner. Our dinner at Assaggio exceeded all expectations!! The service was impeccable in an intimate atmosphere typical of many north end restaurants. My husband had the octopus appetizer while I had the stuffed zucchini flowers. The elegant presentation was only exceeded by the delicious favors! For dinner, my husband had Lobster Fra Diavlo and I had the Puttenesca. Again, delicious ! The owner and the manager (Corey Cimino) were very present and concerned that all went well. A new restaurant that is part of an established restaurant group--definitely a keeper. read more

Food was not bad, but also not very good. The good: calamari was lightly fried and not too greasy, the atmosphere was nice, and the olive oil w/ olives that came with the bread was nice. The not too bad: marinara sauce wasn't very thick, the filet mignon was a bit coarse and stringy, the accompanied vegetables werent the most crispy. Nothing was too bad, but minus the calamari nothing tasted really good. Better experiences at a few other spots nearby. This was a great environment for an intimate experience. The owner was amazing with customer service and made sure all his guests were properly taken care of. He treated us like family despite never having met us before. The food? MEMORABLE! I wish I had taken a photo but even then it would not have done it justice. It's almost impossible to pick a favourite restaurant in the North End but Assaggio is for sure in the list. We always sit at the bar and the bartender (Kevin, I think) is always friendly and attentive. His choices for wine is always great, really understands what his patrons flavour palette is and then matches to what they have. Our favourite app is the meatball & ricotta, yummy! I wanted so badly to like this place... But between the basement dwelling atmosphere & the lackluster food, I was highly disappointed. Service was fine, she seemed a bit nervous but did well. The food on the other hand was so bland. I had the gnocchi and my boyfriend had the lobster. The sauce on my gnocchi was watery and tasted tinny. The mozzarella was also all in one giant rubbery clump. Boyfriend had the fra diavlo sauce, which tasted just like mine, not spicy at all. I'm also perplexed as to how the bottom of my jacket was soaked when we left, while it was only hanging on the back of my chair up against the wall... I hope they are able to improve. read more

One of my top two in the North End. There are so many wonderful choices in the North End and Assaggio stands out for its menu, service and atmosphere. I love the dishes inspired by the Amalfi coast and the options for other traditional Italian/American options for those that may not enjoy fish. The dining room has been updated recently and provides a clean and comfortable setting. Service is always attentive. During the week it is possible to get in without a reservation, but on the weekends, a reservation is recommended. read more

So, I was in town on vacation and heard about Franks other restaurant that I had yet to dine at. But let me start by saying I am rewarding the 2 stars based on the demeanor of staff. This one is going to be a long one. The manager- Wow. What is frank thinking? He needs a hidden camera in that place! He was very unpleasant to listen to, the way he vocalizes things to his staff, I feel very, very sorry for them.. he was just abrasive, rude and demanding. Even to people walking in as we were standing waiting to be sat because the bar was full, just over hear everything he says to walk ins and just is very unpleasant. And how he was talking to everyone in black (staff) There are other ways to ask your staff to do things vs. yelling at them, just remember Cory you are not any higher than them, you were in their shoes at one point. And I overheard his conversation with a guest who didn't want to sit downstairs, and the way he came across was eye rolling. It was very uneasy to watch. Marissa- as we sat down to eat dinner, let me tell you. This one likes to chat! She did not get the hint that maybe, just maybe we wanted a peaceful dinner. From our zucchini flowers to our frozen dinner tasting lasagna she was nonstop. She was all over the place, running around like a mouse who's going back and forth from the trash. She was training some older man who was trying to be a sever, ya he didn't understand one thing. She had to repeat and repeat and he did not understand English apparently! Let's pray for him! Maybe he will get it one day. Just from my wifes' and I observation doesn't seem like he has ever waitered before in his life, so I assume Cory hired him! Bartender/Stefanie or Bethany- (sorry didn't remember) she was the highlight of our night! Best thing that happened was being with her. She was hilarious, so positive, energetic and we loved to watch her do her thing. She was our night cap and finalized the night positively.. we should've sat there from the beginning and we even told her that!! And of course, we sat at the end where all the drinks are that she makes (which was so interestingly see her do) Very neat to watch. But anyways, apparently there is a server terminal right where we were sitting, and of course we get a taste of Marisa, AGAIN. And the 'manager' named Cory, AGAIN. First we heard Marisa just constantly complaining to another server standing there about everything. And the bartender did apologize because she looked up at us and made a face that looked apologetic because she knew it was uncomfortable to hear complaint after complaint about customers and even her co workers! And with the manager Cory, he was very rude to the bartender he made a comment to her that was uncalled for, he is a very demanding, and a degrading individual it seems. But yes she made us the BEST gin martini and old fashioned I had ever had, and I am an avid old fashioned critic and very particular and she said 'I got this'. And she did! So yes she was the highlight and ended our night at 'AsSHITggios' at a better note. And also Ms Stoffers can make better lasagna than what we had. And I had the seafood risotto that was a special, who puts 5 different tasting seafoods in a risotto dish? Too much! Waste of a night, I wish we went to Bricco like originally planned but decided to check this place out. We went to Assagios on a Wednesday night, which is Date Night, at the recommendation of one of my clients. We didn't know what to expect, but the online menu looked very interesting and the person handling reservations was very helpful and polite. We started with the Bruschetta with sauteed mushrooms, garlic and herbs -- it was savory and warm . We followed up with a house salad which came out promptly -- fresh arugula, spinach, cherry tomatoes, warm beets, toasted walnuts and an out-of-this-world lemon vinaigrette!! I never rave about a salad, but this salad was top notch. Then out of the kitchen came this absolutely fantastic seafood dish that delighted our eyes and our tastebuds. My wife ordered the Zuppa di pesce and it was amazing! Fresh succulent lobster, clams, salmon, swordfish, octopus, calamari,cherry tomatoes, GARLIC broth, italian bread for dipping -- all in a hot pan-like serving bowl. The seafood was all so fresh and the taste was 11 on a cale of 1 to 10! I had the lasagna which was very good -- a little too cheesy for my taste, but still very good. I was so busy helping my wife finish her food, I only ate half my meal. The service was prompt, polite and friendly. Our waiter was Albanian but he pronounced the names of the dishes as if he were from Sicily. Finally, the comfy white leather chairs and well spaced tables created a classy and sexy ambiance. After a long day of traveling and exploring, we chose Assaggio after a recommendation from a friend. After being quickly sat downstairs in their converted cellar (put next to the waitstaff area, that was fully open and had 3 bus boys talking and hanging out in while we were 2 feet away), we were quickly greeted and said "someone will be with you, we don't know who, but someone". Ominous beginnings usually lead to bad endings. After 10 minutes, our waitress came over to the table and asked if we would like bottled, sparkling or ice water. We chose the sparkling(which was later destroyed by the waitress who topped off her glass with tap water... waste of 8 bucks!) After that, my girlfriend ordered the Brick Chicken and I asked what was Dairy-Free on the menu. My waitress had 0 idea and a waiter (Tony) interjected from a distance and read off the menu items without dairy. I got the Zuppa di Pesce (which I doubt was actually dairy free- Buttery seafood). After ordering, Tony and our waitress proceeded to audibly make fun and was unsure if my order was indeed "dairy-free". Along with this, Tony was making audible remarks about every table while walking around like a pompous prick. The waitress then proceeded to tell the bus boy to "fill her tables water" and he filled the wrong cups. Once this happened, she audibly embarrassed the young man and said "No! This table!" and was extremely condescending. The food was of decent quality for the price and the broth with my meal was quite well seasoned. My company held a private event in the lounge last week. Everything was perfect. The space is comfortable and classy, the staff was attentive, and pleasant, and the food was top notch. We started with appetizers ranging from pizza, meatballs, bruschetta, and delicious lamb "lollipos" that were huge and perfectly executed then mixed on to dinner which included scrumptious risotto, steak tips and awesome seafood amongst other delicious things. We dined at Assagio and had excellent food and service. Our waiter was Constantin and he was very professional. We had the meatballs and homemade ricotta appetizer - the meatballs were absolutely DELICIOUS. My boyfriend had the lasagna - he let me try a bite and it was amazing. I had the chicken parmagiana which was good but nothing to write home about, I thought it could have used more seasoning. We finished off with the chocolate soufflé for dessert which was outstanding. We would definitely come back. However, be prepared if you are seating outdoors.
