Sorry, have to update my review again. We went to Assaggio's this week for dinner, and I ordered the pasta primavera. I've gotten it several times before and it didn't have any obvious dairy in it...until this week. Either there was a different cook in the kitchen or they changed their recipe...it had cheese in the white wine/olive oil sauce. And I had specifically asked for no cheese...I guess they interpreted that as "no cheese ON the dish". At any rate, beware if you're trying to avoid cheese (like me). I ate it, but after not eating dairy for several months, it was very noticeable to me, and cloying. Service was fine as usual, but it's obvious to me that I won't be getting the pasta primavera again. They'll either need to up their vegetarian selections on their menu (that is, make it easy to remove the cheese) or we're going to have to look for another favorite Italian restaurant. Which is a sad thing, since their food is always good. read more

The food is excellent. I was on my way to Olive Garden and decided to stop here since I have my clothes dry cleaned next door. The waiter is nice and very attentive. My food came out fast and delicious. The portions are great and similar to what Olive Garden has. Pricing is the same as well. Dropped in for lunch - the lunch menu is pretty affordable and the food is good for the price. I ordered an eggplant parm sub and my fiancé ordered a meatball sub as part of their pick two menu. Both were good and I would order again, more for the bread and sauce on the sandwich than the eggplant, which was underplayed flavor wise. The meatball sub was an "8 out of 10" for my fiancé, who sliced the two meatballs in half to distribute more on the sandwich. I think that if he just had the sandwich without the salad, he would have still been hungry. We also received some of the garlic knots - can't go wrong there! Overall, we will probably come back here for lunch more since we live nearby and the prices and food are good. read more

A friend and I ordered delivery so I can't speak to the customer service or the atmosphere of the restaurant, but the food was amazing! The fried ravioli were delish-and the marinara dipping sauce was great. We ordered the Antonio-yum,yum, yum! The blend of toppings gave the pizza wonderful flavor! I only got the pizza here so can't speak for the rest of the menu. We ordered a large size pizza and we wanted to split it half and half of two of their gourmet pizzas but we were told they couldn't do that (gourmet pizzas have to be ordered whole) So that was disappointing. So we ordered one whole large gourmet pizza--the mona lisa. I'm a huge lover of margherita style pizza and that's what i was expecting. But if I had to sum up this pizza in one word, it'd be TOMATOES. I'm used to tomatoes being diced up atop the pizza, but this was sliced tomatoes covering the pizza. And so the the tomato slice to mozzarella chunk ratio is like 5:1. I was disappointed. My friend got a cheese and pepperoni pizza and that was delicious. So I think it was just our choice. So i'm just throwing this out there: don't get the tomato pizza! (aka mona lisa) Service was great though, which is another reason why i'm giving this place high marks. We ordered a large pizza, but they accidentally prepared us a medium size, so we got that one free and they went ahead and made us a large to bring home. Very nice! read more

This place is similar in style to any other Italian restaurant, particularly Raggazzi's and the like. My family ordered some chicken dish and some pasta. Very standard. The lassagna was heavy on the cheese, with not a lot of meat. Very heavy - I didn't even eat that much and it's sitting heavy in my stomach. It's half deli-style, half pizza parlor, half light-service sit-down restaurant. They do a good job of separating the different parts. The sit-down part does have a separated, softly lit portion, as opposed to the brightly lit deli section. One plus - it's not as salty as a lot of other Italian restaurants I've been to. read more

They added mushrooms, peppers, and onions into everything we ordered except the garlic knots. This WASN'T indicated on the menu so we never thought to request them off. Garlic knots were average, but I'm unable to eat peppers and onions so I never got to find out if my calzone (pictured below) was good. Was good. Those jumbo shrimps were huge. Oh man. Pretty good price with 2 sides. Gotthe shrimp fra diavolvo ($18). That dessert was $3.50. First time trying it. Was good. But I'm not much of a cream cheese person. Too much for me. Too much sauce in the shrimp fra diavolvo but thats just me. Maybe some people prefer a ton of sauce. Friendly waiter and host. Visited Assaggio's this weekend for some Italian food. It had some of the best Italian food since my wife and I moved to North Carolina. My wife loved their gnocchi saying it was the best she has eaten since moving to North Carolina. The Garlic Knot Bread was hot and fresh. The staff was friendly and received our food in a timely manner. The only down side was the Fettuccine Alfredo. It was good, but I have had better at other Italian places. I could see how this could be become your neighborhood staple for pizza and Italian food. read more

Pleasant atmosphere with a few well prepared dishes, although the prices are way too high. Service was friendly, despite the server not knowing all the menu's details and how the kitchen prepares some dishes. Food came out at a decent pace, though, and was presented quite well. The problem: ingredients. My side of spaghetti had pieces ranging from mushy to dried out. Don't expect fresh! Their red sauce is flavorful, if a bit salty, but with pasta that tastes like cardboard, the salt is welcome. The salad is a chuck of cucumber, a chunk of tomato, a blob of shredded carrot and some leaves of lettuce; I got it with olive oil and balsamic vinegar - the very bland olive oil is the quality that you cook with, not the kind you serve on the table. Speaking of the table, they have the usual grainy pre-ground parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes that you'd find at a Sbarro's counter. Also, we were sitting in the booths by the bar, so we could see in to the kitchen. We watched them tapping boxed wine into a pitcher to take to the kitchen for cooking. For the prices they charge, a little more attention to quality ingredients is expected. Franzia isn't quality. I still go on occasion, though. I just know what not to order and we usually share dishes to keep the costs down. At $14-$18 a plate, it shouldn't include boxed pasta - or boxed wine. read more

My first bad review of any restaurant in Raleigh. So disappointed. Ordered a "gourmet" pizza for takeout and added sausage because no meat offerings for any of the specialty pizzas. That's okay pay a little extra to get what you want. Picked pizza up, walked to car, checked and no sausage. Returned for sausage to be added. While eating, discovered dough was soggy, veggies undercooked and had big chunks of onion that included parts that had sprouted. I really did like this restaurant but tonight changed my mind. I am sorry but you guys lost a customer. My pizza was overwhelmingly covered in mushrooms and garlic. The mushrooms left my pizza completely soggy to the point that it leaked through the box and I had to throw it out. I've been here twice, once for a calzone and one time I ordered a pasta dish. Not to sound like a snob, but it really bugs me when the pasta is not tossed in the sauce before being plated. It's an easy thing to do and the starch from the pasta really makes the sauce cling to it. The calzone was good, but as far as overall experience, this is a very middle-of-the-road Italian place. It was our first visit and I was looking forward to it after reading the reviews. The server was very personable and took great care of us. The atmosphere is nice and cozy, but not at all pretentious. Then there's the food... I don't know how it could have been any better. I'm sort of picky when it comes to sauce and REALLY enjoyed the veal parmesan. My girlfriend had the chicken piccata and loved it. The portions are generous too. We WILL be back. read more
