    Italian sub
    Scott S.

Wow!!! It has been years since I have been in Assaggios. Not cause I haven't wanted to but because I forget about it at times. I am sure happy I went back today for a great Italian sub. One of the best I've had. Good bread makes a sub and their bread is excellent. Crusty on the outside and not too thick where all you feel like you're eating is bread. Only thing I would have liked is a little more veggies but overall very delicious. Great service, very attentive and the restaurant was clean and well put together. I'll certainly be back to try other dishes. Well done!

This is my $16 meatball sub with three meatballs sliced in half with little sauce and cheese.

They need to up their game on their food. What a disappointing experience, wanting a good meatball sub and disappointed. Last time I will come here.

Easily one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Raleigh. I've been here around 4 or 5 times and have never had a bad experience. The servers are always super nice and attentive. The restaurant has a warm, welcoming, and rustic vibe to it. And the food is always amazing. Their classic pastas are probably some of the best dishes, but you definitely can't go wrong ordering anything else on the menu. Highly recommend trying the garlic knots here.

Went in to see what a Bistro and Market would be. Turns out it is a Italian restaurant with a bar (does have packages of desserts to go) I got the hot meatball sub and the Italian to go. The meatballs on the sub had great flavor not much cheese and sauce. The Italian sub was ok too much dressing couldn't taste the meat.

My boyfriend and I order from here at least once every two weeks. The last three times, there has been quality issues with our order. After getting served this sloppy mess pictured below, we can no longer support this business. I tried to push through and eat a slice but when I picked it up, all the toppings slid off the pizza. $30 and they gave us pizza soup. My boyfriend showed them it before he left the store and the person at the front said it was fine. We called and asked for a refund from the manager since it's not edible.

Assaggio's still reigns as my favorite pizza restaurant on this side of Raleigh. As a New Yorker, I'm considered a pizza snob. Assaggio's never disappoints. They also sell delicious Italian bakery items here. The garlic knots, tuxedo cake and pepperoni pie are my favorite menu items. Make this your first stop for pizza in the area. There is ample indoor dining space and they prepare your slices fresh.

A generous and delightful glass of Riesling.

Our family was in town for a soccer tournament, and after the first game, our son asked for pizza. I found Assaggio's after doing a quick search on Yelp, and we were all very happy with my selection. I started off with a wonderful glass of Riesling, which was a generous pour. Then, for a starter, we shared the Bruschetta, which had a nice mix of flavors. For our entrees, my son ordered a pepperoni pizza, my husband had the veal parmesan with penne pasta, while I enjoyed the lobster ravioli. It took a while for me to make a decision, though, because there were so many yummy choices on the menu. I was quite happy, though, with my selection. The ravioli is served with a thick and tasty tomato cream sauce. Each bite was a treat! The garlic knots also deserve a shout-out. They were so quite delicious and a really nice change from traditional garlic bread. Then there's the large selection of desserts, which greet you as you walk in the door. We were too full to have anyone after our meal, but we couldn't resist taking something back to the hotel to enjoy later. I highly recommended you give Assaggio's a try the next time you're in the neighborhood. The friendly staff is eager to serve you.

Spinach calzone, Sausage Calzone, Pepperoni Calzone

Took us long enough to try this (take out, but we have to go in person sometime) and the calzones were AMAZING. I was not expecting that. I ordered a spinach calzone add sausage, then we got a plain sausage calzone, pepperoni calzone add sausage, and a meatball sub. The photo only shows half the sub. We also split a house salad and it was great! Assagios, thank you for finally satisfying my Italian craving in Raleigh!

Been looking for a solid Italian place near me and I think I found it! We started with the calamari and garlic knots. The calamari was a little chewy but ok otherwise. I also feel the garlic knots didn't have a ton of garlic on them but I also just love garlic. I got the chicken piccata. It was delicious and the portion was huge! It came with a salad and garlic knots as well. The dish was delightful and filling. My husband got the pizza and it was delicious, thin crust, cheesey, and greasy. Just delicious. My brother got the pepperoni calzone and my mom the Philly cheesesteak. They also liked their meals. Overall, I really enjoyed the food and thought the portions were very generous. Service was ok, nothing spectacular and the ambiance is also just fine. Nothing to write home about but nothing to complain about.

We had a great eating experience overall at Mulino. There were 12 of us but because when we called…read morethey continually hung up the phone or the call would end (on a land line). We weren't able to make the reservation for 12 because it only goes up to 10 on OpenTable. We ended up having to make the reservation for 6 at one table and 6 at the other table. To tease us, they put the tables right across from each other and put a table of 2 right in between us. To make matters worse is that we were celebrating our wedding so it would've been nice to have us all together. The restaurant gave me and my husband champagne to try to comp this I suppose but would've been better if they could've seated us all together. We started with the crab cakes and arancini. The crab cakes were fine. The otter crust was crunchy and perfect. The arancini was stuffed with cheese, rice, and meat and it was delicious. They were also crunchy on the outside but so soft and good on the inside. I had the tagliatelle. The noodles were prepared perfectly. It was almost as if I was in Italy. Something I noticed in Italy was that the noodles were never cooked too softly. They were still more firm but edible and delicious and that's how they were prepared at this restaurant in Raleigh. The dish was excellent and very tasty. My husband had the medium rare Ribeye with peppercorn sauce over mashed potatoes with sautéed seasonal vegetables. This dish was prepared perfectly. The ribeye was delicious and mashed potatoes had a great consistency about it and seasoned well.

I adore the bar top design. After my date arrived and a few drinks later, we decided to sit outside for dinner at a table. It was a chilly night, so they had heaters facing the tables, and the outside matched the loveliness of the inside. I had the lasagna, which had that delicious classic Italian taste. The meal, cocktails, and wine were all perfect; my only gripe was the customer service. I felt like we were being rushed out, especially when the server interrupted us to ask if we were done.

The restaurant is nice and dimly lit with plenty of seating, but you will have to find street parking around Glenwood. We were a party of 6 and they pulled together tables to accommodate us. Our server was a little slow but still friendly. For starters we got a Margherita pizza, calamari, the grilled caesar, and they brought us a complimentary bread basket with oil. Everything except the caesar was good. I guess we didn't expect the caesar to taste THAT charred and the lettuce to not be chopped. For main entrees, we ordered lasagna, lobster ravioli, penne alla vodka, and alfredo. The vodka pasta and lasagna were unflavored and disliked among the table. I would not recommend those dishes. The alfredo was okay. The best dish was the lobster ravioli.

We were thankful to be able to get a last minute reservation on a saturday night ! The Radiatore small pasta was delicious and satisfying while just the right size for lunch, adding chicken for a protein boost. My friend enjoyed the Chicken Parm Sando and Kardashian Chopped Salad. Good service in a surprisingly well decorated atmosphere, I would come back to Flour & Barrel for more Italian goodness! The Deets: I wanted to catch up with a friend over a weekday lunch and we scoped out Flour & Barrel in DTR to do just that. When entering in from the pretty nondescript exterior/entrance on the corner of North and Harrington Streets, it becomes a colorful well decorated bistro/bar type feeling inside which is welcoming. We were shown to our table next to one of the wide windows facing North St, I liked this table with lots of natural light and yes, I am a people watcher as well. The server took our drink orders and asked if we had any questions about the menu. The lunch menu is pretty succinct but well represented, offering focaccia sandwiches (sandos), small pastas (pasta handmade in-house), and salads. It also has a wine and craft beer selection also if needed. My friend went with the Chicken Parmesan Focaccia Sando (has pomodoro, mozzarella, and basil) with Kardashian Chopped Salad (made with romaine, salami, provolone, piquillo peppers, artichoke, and garbanzo) for a side while I chose the Radiatore small pasta selection. The Radiatore is described on the menu as "our version of carbonara but creamier / guanciale / egg" so naturally it caught my eye. I am usually pretty cut and dry about wanting carbonara to be the traditional type but since they stated upfront that this is their version, I was willing to give it a go. I am glad I did, as this pasta dish was great. The serving was the perfect size for lunch, plus I was able to add chicken to it as well. The sauce was creamy and delicious, going well with the al dente pasta. This meal was most satisfying and I would love to get this one again in the future. My friend really enjoyed the sando so much, he had originally planned to eat half and take the other half home...that didn't work out the way he planned as he devoured the whole sandwich there, it was that good. He also enjoyed the salad as well. Our server did well checking on us and making sure we had what we needed. I am so glad we decided to try out Flour & Barrel for lunch, it worked out perfectly and was a very enjoyable meal.
