Astera installed three mini split units in the second floor of our Chicago 2-flat and they were really great to work with. Everyone was super smart and thoughtful with planning, scheduling and installation. Steve was no nonsense and did an extra site visit to make sure it all went well--he was willing to answer all my concerns and questions and had great ideas. The install crew were excellent and were thoughtful at every stage. A crane was needed to hoisted unit over 40' tree in front (which was nerve wracking) and they handled it with extreme cool. Came without a ladder to look at extractor fan 12' up on a wall. Had to borrow mine. Extractor fan had two motors that weren't working-- quoted to replace one. Unclear what the plan was with the other. Wanted to charge me the $65 visit fee and leave and the quote will arrive eventually. I told him I'd wait for the quote. 45 minutes later with the quote in hand I went to pay him and he said it would be $2.50 extra for street parking. A real breath of fresh air after running around in circles (including 3 fruitless attempts with competitors)! They responded to my initial request incredibly fast. I provided all of the details about my wall microwave/oven combo and they called back incredibly fast to confirm the need and check on availability. Given my experience with their competitor, I assumed the callback was going to be AI or some other automated thing and was surprised when a real person asked if I wanted an appointment on the weekend, prior to my scheduled appointment. The communication about the repair was consistent and precise. Alex texted about an hour ahead of his arrival within the window I'd scheduled and showed up right on time. He was efficient and pragmatic in his approach, giving me options and making suggestions. While I didn't actually go through with anything beyond the diagnostic check ($65), I really found the approach honest and refreshing. Our downtown high-rise condo recently experienced a building-wide plumbing emergency when a pipe burst, necessitating the shutdown of the water supply for an entire day. When the water was restored, our dishwasher refused to work properly. We called Astera Services, and Valentina was a pleasure to speak with for scheduling; she is incredibly knowledgeable about the kinds of problems appliances can experience, just by describing the issue, which helps the technicians be extremely prepared by the time they arrive. Eugene was the technician that Astera immediately dispatched to help us. He already knew what the issue might be before even pulling the dishwasher out to determine the problem! Just as he suspected, it was related to the lack of water pressure. The root cause was that debris from the building's pipe emergency had clogged the hose connected to the dishwasher. He fixed it in no time and even found a defect related to a different contractor's work involving a bent hose used to discharge the water. That was a crisis just waiting to happen and could have caused water to pool below our dishwasher, so we were extremely pleased with his diligence. Thanks again, Eugene, you're a top-notch guy! I wish all contractors had the professionalism and dedication to excellence that Astera has. I had an issue with my oven igniting and tried cleaning it myself but couldn't get it to go. Called Astera and had a same day appointment. It was $75 for the appointment to get a quote which they discount from your final bill if you work with them. Dima had the assessment done in 30 minutes and a new igniter fixed after about 45 minutes total. The best part about Astera is that the oven ended up not working a few days later and I gave them a call. The labor is under warranty for 60 days so Dima came back out to check the oven for free, ordered another igniter replacement and had it installed a few days later all without an additional cost! They are fast, understanding, and their policies are designed to put customers first! Hopefully, I never need an appliance repaired but if I do I'm calling them! read more

After searching up local HVAC companies, we decided to go with Astera Heating, Cooling & Appliance Repair, based on all the positive reviews. We were not disappointed. We scheduled them to come over to do a yearly maintenance check on our A/C. Val came out with a co-worker of his named Alex, at the window of time that was promised, which was great. They checked all the moving parts on our A/C unit thoroughly, and cleaned the unit entirely as well. The only thing that needed adjusting was the Freon level, which they did upon our authorization. Val thoroughly explained everything to both my wife and I on the work that was done. He used an HVAC metering type app on his phone that showed us the functionality levels our A/C unit was operating on prior, and after the maintenance check and Freon adjustment, which was very cool! The cost for the maintenance and the adjustment of the Freon was very fair. All in all they did a fantastic job and we would not hesitate to call on them again for future work on our HVAC system. read more

I booked Astera for a same day service via Yelp - they were responsive and transparent about pricing. The company did provide a 3-hour window like the cable company for arrival, but I was going to be home anyway and they showed up and completed service within the time frame provided. They send you texts with updates and a little photo of who to expect at your door. I am accustomed to having maintenance on the AC + whatever they tack on to get the price higher. Very disappointing experience. The technician Vlad was not able to properly diagnose the issue why the refrigerator door couldn't be closed. We expected further communication on a next day. However we haven't heard from them. Finally, my husband found the real reason in the freezer door and fixed it. 75$ for diagnostic should be reimbursed. read more

BEWARE: 2 month warranty on labor. Refrigerator was freezing over. Technician came and unclogged the drain. They didn't fix whatever the underlying issue was and the fridge started to freeze over again a few months later. Called Astera to rediagnose and they said it's basically a new service call due to their labor warranty. On their website, they state 'we strive to deliver expert solutions and exceptional service that exceed expectations and create long-lasting relationships.' I don't think this is true. My expectation was to pay them $180 to solve the issue and then not to call them back again months later. read more

I am a new homeowner and new to the area, so when my fridge stopped cooling as it should, I didn't know where to turn. I threw out an ABP via yelp and could not be happier that Valentina from Astera responded right away (~10 min) - close to midnight on a Friday no less! Dima was at our house midday the next day (Sat) and did a detailed troubleshooting process on the fridge until finding the culprit, explaining his work to me along the way. In October I cleaned my drier and my washer. To get behind the washer I had to move it some. This required that I move the drain hose. To make a story short when I finished with the cleaning I forgot to put the drain hose back in place. At 75 years old I have my moments. Anyway, a few days later I flew to Puerto Rico. And just after three days on the island, I got a phone car. The washer was not filling in. Still not thinking about the drain hose I got in touch with Astera. They came over, put the hose in place, and charged me $160. When I called to complain about the $160, I was told that it could have been more, but that I was getting a discount. So my advice to others is, before you call, check your drain hose. read more

Very happy with the service! The water in my dishwasher was not draining, so I checked with a few companies and Astera was the first to get back to me and also had the most reasonable diagnostics fee. Dima came over, checked the machine and found the draining pump was fine but the water valve wasn't closing properly, causing the water buildup. He was able to come back later the same day and replace the part. Left the whole work area very clean. I also had him check my washer since I sometimes find streaks on my clothes after a cycle. He showed me the machine was running well but there was a bit of mold that might be causing the problem. When he came back to fix the dishwasher, he brought me a product to put in the washer to clean it. Very professional, explained things well, reassured me my appliances are in good shape and I am very grateful they were able to get the problem solved the day before Thanksgiving. I don't know what costs typically are for this type of work but I thought the final price was more than fair, especially considering how expensive it can be these days to fix things around the house. read more
