This is a wonderful place to eat and take in the view from the terrace. We were there with a group of six for Sunday lunch. Popovers here are my new fav on the island, large and served with lots of butter and jam. Our party ate a variety of entrees, from chowder to salad to burgers. Everyone was pleased. The mimosa drinkers were very satisfied. My friends who live on the island say that it is a super chill place to come in the late afternoon for a drink and appetizers on the terrace. The staff was attentive and friendly. Parking was easy and much better than Jordan Pond House. Across the street are some of the prettiest gardens on the island. read more

Great popovers! (Ask for them gresh from the oven. Tell them you're not picky about the timing.) Good lobster soup. They call it chowder, but there's no thickening in it, so I'll stick with calling it soup. Fresh cream makes it simple and delicious, though. This was our favorite restaurant on this year's trip to MDI and we liked it so much we went twice. They owners of this place used to operate Jordan Pond House and use the same recipe for the famous popovers. And actually the popovers are much better here because the ones we got at Jordan Pond House this year were extremely burned. The popovers here are outstanding, and we were really happy with the rest of the food we ordered too. On our first visit I had the gnocchi with lobster in cream sauce. It was very tasty. On my second visit, I had the lobster stew, which was fantastic - the best of the many lobster stews I had on MDI this year. My family members were happy with their food too. They have a beautiful outdoor deck with a great view of the harbor. It is very pricey but the food and the view justify the price. The service on our first visit was excellent but on our second visit it wasn't great. Our server never returned to refill water or ask how our meals were, and we had a hard time flagging her down to get the bill. read more

This was our fifth time in this place, first this year. Menu has changed. Frenchman cioppino for $48 was strange: split on half lobster head was on top. My expectation was that the meat is under it. Wrong! The very small piece of it sticks in the mussel shell, no more traces of lobster were present anywhere. Overall the dish tasted very ordinary, nothing special. However, the most disappointing was the last part of the dinner. For dessert we ordered the tea and popovers. Surprisingly, the waiter said that they have only regular tee, no earl gray or others. He bought popovers with butter and jam, then asked if we want more beer! He was a little surprised when I told that I expected him to bring the tea with popovers! He bought... earl gray! I don't know what they did to Popovers! Before they were soft, melting in mouth together with butter and jam, bringing the joy! These two were dried and tasteless! Even the perfect blueberry jam can't rescue this failure. Just in one year the place where we always try to go during our stay in Acadia was transformed in the average restaurant with the food slightly better then in McDonald's. Would I pay 150 for dinner there again? I don't think so. read more

Was visiting Acadia with my two teenage children, and had spent the morning at Wildwood Stables on a Bridges tour (which you shouldn't miss!). The guides highly recommended Asticou, and said that we would enjoy it more than Jordan House so we gave it a try. First, the quaint hotel it was located in was just what you would imagine in a national park. Historic, genteel, welcoming, and not teeming with tourists. It was a beautiful sunny day, and we were immediately seated on the deck with the most amazing view of the park. We are high up on a ridge, so the park extends down and away from the hotel, and you can see woods and water and shoreline and you simply could not take your eyes off of it. We ordered popovers (my kids have never had them before) and I could not possibly describe how amazing they were - hot, moist, and utterly delicious. Of course, we had to order a second round of them they were so good! And I had a Blueberry iced tea with a splash of lemonade (as recommended by the waitress) and I have literally been dreaming about it ever since. I have never had something so delicious and refreshing ever - and no matter how hard I have tried since I've come home, I've not been able to duplicate it! :( Our food was delicious, well made and presented, and the service was attentive and friendly. Without a doubt our best meal in Acadia. Would go back in a heartbeat! read more

Beware, do not come here with children! We came about 4:50pm with our 1.5 year old, and were seated at the end of the deck--perfect location for keeping our son from disturbing other customers. We scanned the menu and had our order ready within 3 minutes, since we were very hungry and little boy doesn't like to sit still. We waited... and waited... and waited, until finally we began trying to flag down the two waitresses as well as the hostess, all who studiously avoided even glancing in our direction. The nearest table to us (filled with two white-haired couples) was serviced three times while the waitresses avoided my waving and gestures. No one even came to ask our drink orders for twenty-five minutes! I've never felt so unwelcome as a parent before. Eventually, we got up and left, and no one even glanced much less tried to stop us. We went to the Jordan Pond house instead, where they were both fast (drink orders within a minute of sitting down) and friendly to our son. read more

It was a great setting but the waiter kept bringing the wrong food (mixed up tables) and the food was mediocre. The drink came after the dinner was served and the appetizer came after the main course. The lobster bisque has plenty of lobster but little flavor. The crab and lobster cakes were mostly crab- I would have like a bit more spice. And the lobster roll was mostly claw and rather tasteless. I'll not rush back. read more

We've eaten here many times but this last week was really disappointing. Our table was not cleared once while we ate and the side salad that came with my haddock sandwich was embarrassing - cucumbers that had obviously gone off, yellow Romaine, mealy tomatoes. The popovers you used to get with a meal are gone. Now you have to buy them separately. These weren't as good, either, being barely warm by the time we got them. Agree with others that the popovers were the best part of the meal. The lobster for the lobster roll had gone bad and needed to be thrown out - the manager took off $10 for that (our total bill was around $130). The server pushes food and drinks - so just be prepared to order only what you want. The mushroom ravioli is locally made in town and phenomenal. Walked in and it's a nice inn. The two hostesses were discussing staffing for two minutes before they looked up and offered to seat us. Got a nice view on the porch but it was another 10 minutes before we saw our waitress (and another 2 after I asked the hostess where she was). She finally came over and then told us she would be back. She did eventually come back after about 4 minutes and took our order. Flatware on the table was dirty (covered in food) and the table wasn't cleaned after the last guests. The food is fine but service needs a lot of work. Honestly we had fantastic service at this restaurant and that can make or break a place for us. Arrived a bit early for reservations but were immediately seated outside to enjoy happy hour on a sunny day. Waiter and waiter-in-training provided recommendations and served us very well. Crab/lobster cakes=yum. Yes the popovers are wonderful and so is the view from the outside seating. It was fun watching the boats and the children playing below in the garden areas. My husband had the Lobster Roll and I had the cheeseburger and sweet potato fries that came with a sweet ginger sauce, it was delicious!! Beautiful old-fashioned inn dining room overlooking the Bay. The service was impeccable from start to finish...no waiting, but not rushing. We had the filet and Lobster Pasta Anticou. We went for dinner last night. When we walked in the hostess greeted us. We had requested a seat outside and she was leading the way. She walked so fast and arrived at our table before we did. She did not wait for us and just left the menus on table and walked away. She was inside the building before we got to our table. We were very shocked by how unprofessional this was. Then we sat at the table for about 5 minutes before a bus person noticed us and came to pour us water. Our waitress showed up a few minutes later and took our drink and food order. Our cocktails and appetizers arrived quickly. Our waitress stopped by and removed our dishes and that was the last we saw of her for awhile. Our dinners were served by someone else and said enjoy and walked away. We did not see our waitress again until we had finished our meal. I wanted to order a glass of wine to go with dinner but that didn't happen. Also we never got any popovers. We told our waitress we were through with dinner and just wanted our check. She did not remove our dinner plates. Came back a few minutes later with our check and again did not remove our dinner plates. Horrible horrible service. I realize that every place is short staffed but don't give a waitress more tables than she can handle. Other people around us were getting much better service then we were. It was such a disappointing evening. We had gone there to celebrate a birthday. Please take my advice and go to Red Sky. Every time we have been there it has been fantastic. Everyone from the hostess to the waitresses and bus person have always been so attentive. Cross Asticou restaurant off your list. read more

Oh my goodness. What a dream lunch at the back porch overlooking the marina. I had the lobster lettuce wrap--the lobster was prepared lightly with seasoned mayo coerced over butter lettuce--with the most heavenly truffle fries served with a wonderful aioli and a perfectly brewed iced tea. My husband enjoyed his fish sandwich with a side salad and root beer. And of course we thoroughly enjoyed their specialty popovers that were huge and rich in flavor even before you slather on the creamy butter and the sweet blueberry and/or strawberry jams. The service was prompt, friendly and engaging. I highly recommend this place. read more

Went to this place after a recommendation, unfortunately we had a horrible experience. All four of our meals were incorrect and the service was incredibly slow. When settling the bill a question arose about an additional charge that they didn't budge on even though all of the meals were wrong. Such as dressing on vs. on the side. Made a 1230 reservation they wrote down the wrong time 1245, even then we weren't seated until 115. At the same time a walk-in group was seated and their orders were finally taken before us. Their total meal took an hour. At that point we should have just walked in and not made reservations. Why take the reservation if it means nothing to how you operate a business. Next we regularly had to ask for what we ordered (popovers) to be brought to us after all other food was finally delivered. The burger we ordered well done came out rare, asked them to redo it, it came out medium rare. Really? Food was hit or miss, some bland some tasty. I feel bad for our waitress because she was extremely nice, but we spent around 2.5 hours overall for lunch. 10% of our day spent on LUNCH which included sandwiches and salads. Absolutely no redeemable qualities. Mismanagement all over the place. Will never waste our time here again. read more

This place was quite a let down after all of the wonderful food we'd eaten in Maine. They lost our reservation, forgot to cook the rice under our scallops, didn't have menu items (but didn't tell us until we tried to order), and indicated locally harvested mussels but after eating local mussels the day before, there's no way these could've been local (1/3 the size and different flavor). The popovers were tasty, but definitely shouldn't have been the highlight of the meal. There was dense fog, so even the view couldn't make up for this experience. read more

It caters to guests of a bygone era, who were likely in their prime when this was still a bastion of the privileged class. The dinner hours of 5:00-8:00 should have been warning enough. Have had better experiences. On the plus side, cocktails were quite good & smoked salmon appetizer was delicious. Additionally we had gone the day before for lunch & the lobster quiche was fabulous. Popovers were also terrific. On the not so great side the "Asticou Salad" was a huge letdown - for $9 I expect a salad that doesn't fit nicely on a bread plate. For dinner everyone got the lobster risotto. It was tasty but a bit thick & overwhelmed the lobster. Service at lunchtime was sorely lacking in attention to detail. They can do better. read more

Had lunch w/old friends on the terrace overlooking Northeast Harbor...killer view! Great fish chowder and super popovers...carried over from JPH. they made the transition to the new location very nicely. Chowder was hearty with excellent flavors abounding...very traditional New England chowder with not too thick a base but lots of butter. Popovers were light and hot with butter and strawberry jam. Had the same combo at JPH the other day (taste testing)...much better here although JPH was not bad. Lobster salad was straightforward and good although a bit skimpy w/the lobster for $22. Food wasn't the best of our trip, but still tasty and a great spot for lunch. We called ahead and still had to wait a bit in the later afternoon. The Asticou Restaurant is one of our favorite places! We love the venue, the views, the menu, the food, and most of all the service staff. This year, our 4th year in a row to frequent the Asticou, Becca was our server on our first visit. She was amazing! She treated us like royalty. She was attentive, knowledgeable, personable, and an absolute pleasure. We came back the next day hoping to have Becca as our server, and were delighted to meet Sarah, our second-day server. Sarah was as amazing as Becca! Largely because of Becca and Sarah, we wound up visiting the Asticou six times in our ten-day stay in Acadia National Park. Let me first begin by stating the views for this restaurant outdoors are amazing. We got some great photos. The staff was also was very nice. Then came the food or shall I say we did not get any food for an hour. What a disaster...when no one around you is eating ...run! The couple next to us with their daughter ended up getting the check after not receiving any food after an hour they just left so they could make the fireworks display. It was the 4th and we left downtown because it was just too busy so we decided to drive out to this restaurant for dinner then head back in for the show. Not sure why our food took so long. After sitting there for a very long time we finally stopped what appeared to be the manager(not certain) and we inquired where our food was ...she said she would check. Came back and said it would be right out. Well it did not come right out and we asked our server another 10 to 15 minutes later where it was which she admitted there were some issues in the kitchen. The mgr never came back by the way to check on us or offer anything. What a joke. The server offered us popovers to at least have something to eat so we got those. By the way, our wines took forever to be served in the beginning as well. Forgot to mention that tidbit. After an hour we got our dinners. I ordered the quiche and salad. It was burnt. Did they make an entire quiche? Is that what took so long? Otherwise , all you do is slice and warm. The salad was pitiful looking. It was lobster quiche with no lobster but one bite. My husband another entree which I cannot recall at the moment . He said it was terrible. Of course we skipped dessert. Had to still pay the $100 for a terrible experience. One meal....gotta just tell ourselves that but it was part of our vacation so not pleasant and I would never, ever return. Not sure how they stay in business. read more

Atmosphere is a pure "Get Out" type experience complete with entitled customers who will make you forget your average-tasting food and weak drink to take up the cause of the beleaguered waitstaff.
