I come here to get the lamb gyros which are pretty good. The meat taste like it is of high quality (not gritty or stringy like some places). The side dishes are a little pricey and they can be stingy with their toppings but overall this place is pretty good. Oh, and the owner is really nice and personable. We came here for Saturday lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the food and friendly service. Everything was delicious. Prices were good, place was clean and there was tons of free parking out the back. Not many places in Arlington have all those 3 things going for them. We sat inside because it was v hot but on a cooler day the patio looks great. However, something happened this summer - looks like a change in personnel. And it's just gone downhill in every way. Went here for lunch and ordered a hummus appetizer, greek salad and lamb gyro between the two of us. Hummus and pita were excellent. Greek salad wasn't that great and was overloaded with beets--definitely ask them to omit if you're not a big fan of beets. The cucumber and tomato salad was really good and the gyro was great with well-seasoned meat and a good mix of all of the veggies and meat and sauces. Would definitely return and take a closer look at some of the other meal options--people had some huge meals that I think were good value. read more

I ordered the vegetarian sampler (my usual order at Lebanese/Mediterranean restaurants), which came with about only two tablespoons (emphasis added) of the following: Hummus, tabouleh, fava bean dip, chickpea and lentil salad, red beat salad. Not only were the portion sizes very measly (and I am not a big eater), I was only served half a pita bread!! I will never go back to Astor. read more

This small local family style restaurant is super. If you do have a complaint, all you need to do is tell the owner who is there much of the time cooking and serving. I can't imagine a complaint. The food is super. The pizza is divine. If you want to change an ingredient, they are willing. The owner even added a wine I suggested. Whether you are a vegetarian or not (and vegetarians seem to love this place), I can't imagine someone not finding something they like. We only found this place about two months ago but we have been several times. We have also had them deliver. I brought several people from my office with all tastes at lunch and they liked it as well. Prices are extremely reasonable under today's standards. Try it. You will like it. read more

Amazing food, delightful service, sparkly facility, reasonable prices. The sampler is great because you get a bit of everything. The only problem for me is that I want more of everything and end up stuffed. The baba ganoush wrap is good, but it is a lot of baba ganoush. The pizza is tasty. The crust is good, a little chewy. As there are a lot of vegetables, it can be a touch on the moist side. The restrooms are immaculate. The dining room is well decorated and in the warmer months you can sit outside. The workers have always been friendly, and the lady who owns it is almost always there. I have a feeling those complaining about the prices are just new to the area. When I first moved here from GA, everything cost about 30% more. I guess I am used to it, because I don't think Astor is all that expensive. read more

If Astor doesn't deserve five stars then I don't know what does. I've never had a bad meal here. Usually I go for the chicken kabob over salad, though I've tried the sandwiches and pizza, too. It's all flavorful, and of good quality. Sometimes I feel it's a bit pricey, but good food in DC is so hard to find that you really do get every penny's worth at Astor. I'm one of those Northerners who complains regularly about what passes for pizza here in Arlington: The Italian Store is great but expensive, doesn't deliver, and is always a madhouse; I'm a bit too far from Pizzaiola; Pupatella is only open for lunch and breakfast. Astor was the missing piece for me. It's more Greek-style pizza, but I've always loved that. I was, however, disappointed by their stuffed grape leaves, which were lousy; then again, almost everyone's stuffed grape leaves are lousy, with the notable exception of Zorba's. I love this place and get takeout from there all the time. Good food that isn't very expensive. Chicken sandwiches have marinated veggies in them and are great for lunch. For dinner I usually go with a kabob which comes with some really good rice. The pizza is also surprisingly good, well worth trying. The only down side is that the inside is kind of loud b/c the material used for the ceiling seems to reflect sound. But the outdoor seating is pleasant. read more

Had some fantastic lamb kabob over a Greek salad last night. LOVE this place!!! They came to my gym and gave out samples and that was my first time trying them. Great gyro! I haven't found a quick deli/gyro place in Arlington until now. Cava is great but it's expensive and a more upscale sit-down establishment. For $8 you can get a combo which include your choice of sandwich (i get gyro), a large plate of fries and a fountain soda. The gyro is big, enough to split in half and eat over 2 meals. They have excellent Hummus as well. Great quick and cheap bite! read more

Astor is a real gem in the neighborhood. Excellent food, super affordable and great outdoor seating in the summer. Most dishes are 10 bucks or less which is super cheap by Arlington standards. But most importantly it's fresh and good. The apps are great-hummus, fava bean dip assorted salads and my favorite, the beet salad. The Astor Vegetarian is an awesome main dish but makes a great and filling appetizer for a group, and a great way to sample alot. It also has the best falafel Ii've ever had. For mains, the chicken kabobs are always tender, juicy and delicious. The half chicken is HUGE (and only 10 bucks!) and comes with 2 sides. The steak and wraps are also good, and their french fries are addictive. (I'm an even bigger fan of their roasted potato wedges-awesome). They even have really good pizza, not what you'd expect from a Mediterranean place like this. I eat here almost weekly and never get tired of it. Plenty of parking they even have beer/wine. In the warmer weather they have great outdoor seating surrounded by a garden of flowers and vegetables. Really neat. It's right in the heart of the N. Barton/N. Pershing/Rt 50 'hood. It's so close to the hotel on 50/N. Pershing so there always seems to be a nice mix of locals and tourists. It's counter service, which mean you get your own silverware, drinks and bring your tray/plates/utensils to the garbage can when done. But well worth it! read more

Astor is great! I went with my boyfriend and loved the food. We are super critical eaters. And I'm especially picky when it comes to vegetables. Being a dietitian, I love restaurants that offer lots of veggie options. Also, I love places that also cater to my boyfriends needs, who is first and foremost a carnivore. I ordered the beets as a side which looked too good to turn down (and they were). I also got the Greek salad with mixed kabob. Also delicious. And they were very generous with portions. My boyfriend got the kufta kabob with the regular sides and a side of chickpeas. The chickpeas were fantastic and may have been the best part of the meal. Overall, the meal was great (I've obviously run out of synonyms for great). The ambiance is very comfortable. We ate inside but I look forward to coming here during the summer when we can make use of the beautiful outdoor patio. Really nothing is better and more "summery" than grilled meat, a cold beer and picnic tables. read more

Great place for a quick bite to go or to sit down with family and friends. I always like to get the Beef Souvlaki and their pizza is good for the kids. The sides are fresh and flavorful and I normally choose something different each visit. I highly recommend the chickpeas or the tomato and cucumbers. This place used to be a favorite lunch spot of ours for the past three years. It seems that there has been a change of management or ownership (but likely both). The food quality has gone down drastically. This used to be the best gyro that I've ever had and now it is just mediocre. They've changed their pita bread, the tzatziki sauce, and the gyro meat isn't prepared as well as it was in the past. Two visits ago, they were out of ketchup, 75% of the napkin holders were out of napkins, and the pita bread was like cardboard. It's almost like they ran out of their regular pita and substituted gluten-free pita bread. We keep returning in hopes that our last visit was just a fluke and the food quality will return to what we were used to in the past. But after four terrible visits in the past few weeks, I'm afraid that we've lost them for good! read more

I found this place very disappointing, and I love Mediterranean food and have eaten a significant amount/variety of it. The vegetarian platter at Astor was mostly dips but only came with a small piece of pita bread. There were 3 kinds of dips/sauce-like items (hummus, etc) that were all put right next to each other on the plate so they all just mushed together. The pita also turned hard within minutes and everything lost its appeal relatively quickly. The menu said it came with stuffed grape leaves, which were completely missing. On another dish, the menu said "grilled vegetables" and the only vegetables were three bite-sized pieces of onion and one smaller-than-bite-sized piece of pepper. The food was relatively satisfying at first, but I had been very hungry. read more

I have been here a few times on my lunch break, since my office is nearby. I was very satisfied during my previous visits. Apparently, they are now under new management. It shows. The staff just seemed to be really disorganized. Meals were prepared and served out of order. A woman who had been waiting since before I arrived was served when I was halfway through my meal (which yooian unnecessarily long time to arrive at my table). I am absolutely devastated. I live right around the corner and go to Astor weekly. After they have switched management, the wait time has increased significantly from 15 to 25 minutes. When I went to go pick up my order, they told me that they were out of hummus..... and then all the sudden "found some". I also got a fountain drink and the lemonade had no syrup in it... I proceeded to go home and start eating when I opened the hummus and pita and realized that there was only one very different store bought type pita bread and only one of them when the normal serving size was two. I then opened up my grilled chicken kabob. The rice was essentially white rice, there were no grilled veggies, or sauce. The chickpeas were undercooked as well. I am so saddened by this and hope they can restore the old Astor ways in the future. read more

Insanely awesome. There I said it, and I mean it. This little gem takes me about 3 minutes to bike to, and I wish it was 2 minutes instead. Amazing well cooked food. You can tell that they take their time with all of their dishes and I love being able to see everything and choose from the displays right there in front of me. The lamb shank, pizzas, and Kafka are amazing. Hummus is on point, and babaghanoush is the best I've ever had. I was stoked as soon as I came into this place for the first time. I honestly wish it had a little more character inside, but I can sit with it. They have 6 for $12 beers in a bucket and for the first few weeks it was any beer you wanted, but they realized that was a horrible mistake and now it is only Coronas and Miller(trash) Lite. I also made the mistake of trying out my Greek on one of the wonderful older owners, but I believe they were Turkish instead and I made them really really confused. I now love beets. read more

I went here 2 months ago and it was pretty good. Decent price and tastes great. I went here yesterday and ordered a salad with lamb on the top chic peas on the side. The phone was down so I had to go and order at the counter. They said they were out of lamb. The salad took 30 minutes to make for no reason. When I finally got my food I walked home and opened the box. The salad was missing a bunch of ingredients and the chic peas were under cooked. I went back to correct the mistake and they didn't understand what the problem was and took another 20 minutes to fix. To top it off I order a fountain drink and only water came out of every soda option. So it was a waste. All in all this place used to be good. The new management changed the recipe slightly so it's worse, has no idea how to run a restaurant, and don't listen to your order when you make it. This place probably deserves 0 stars. But we all know yelp is too nice to make that an option. I recommend not going here until things change back to how they used to be. read more

Astor has finally opened in Northern Virginia to bless the residents of Arlington with good Greek food. This Astor is opened by the same owner that runs the Astor in Adams Morgan, except I actually think it tastes even better. Not only do they have the best falafels in the DC/N. Virginia area as well as some of the best eggplant I've ever had, but the owner is SUPER nice. An organization I'm with had a fundraiser recently and we asked him for a donation (over the phone). Without any questions or even meeting us, he agreed, and prepared for us a beautiful veggie platter to feed 15 people just a few days after. Their food is fantastic, and even though I do not think the Greeks invented pizza, they might as well have with what Astor has done to pizza. Their plain cheese is sooooo good. I don't know what it is, but you just have to try it. And definitely get the eggplant parmesan sandwich. Everything here is just really really good. read more
