I've been here a grand total of twice. My first experience was problem free. Kudos. The second visit "could've been better" (which Yelp suggests that a 2 star rating would be appropriate to indicate): we placed quite a simple order - 2x Strawberry Sundaes. We took our number placard (#52) and sat at a table to await our order. After patiently waiting what I would estimate to be approximately 15-20 minutes and seeing quite a few other people served their orders, I did find it odd that it was taking so long to prepare 2x sundaes, so I located the young man who took our order and politely inquired about it. He looked a bit confused, exchanged some unintelligible words one of the guys on the grill, and then looked back at me and said it was not our turn yet (or something to that effect). Okay, fair enough. Maybe there were many orders ahead of us. I took it in good stride and went back to my table. After waiting approximately another 15-20 minutes and seeing that *Order #70* was being given their food, I realized that there was a problem and went back up to the ordering counter. I ended up talking with an old man (who I presume is the owner/manager). I explained the situation, and he inquired who had taken our order. I looked around, and the young man appeared to be nowhere in sight, but I did mention it was he who had had taken our order. The old man apologized and assured us he would take care of our order right away. Sure enough, I saw him beeline to the ice cream machine to start our sundaes, and he delivered them to us within 2-3 minutes. He apologized a second time, stating that it was the young man's 2nd day on the job, and that he otherwise would not have forgiven the transgression. In my experience, the resolution to the absurd wait could have been handled worse (in theory, the old man could certainly have told us to pound sand rather than apologizing and immediately attempting to correct the problem and quickly getting our desserts after being made aware of his employee's failure), but also could have been handled better (comping us for the trivial cost of the sundaes as a remedy/cure would have more effectively salved our irritation from the unnecessary waste of 30+ minutes of our life, and would have been in-line with remedial efforts I have experienced at other eateries, including similar fast food/burger joints). All that said, the sundaes were quite good. They would undoubtedly have tasted better had they been served in a time frame reasonable enough to not spoil the mood. I get that this is not a fine dining restaurant of any sort, but I still expect staff competence to be no worse than that of a McDonald's baseline level. I also get that humans make mistakes, but ... how did a simple order of 2x sundaes get botched this badly, particularly after a good faith attempt to bring the matter to staff's attention?? read more

I used to dine here two to three times a week !! We moved to Santa Clarita in 2022 and today's meal was absolutely disappointing!! The fries were not the same soggy and way less then they use to give The onion rings were not even filled to the paper container WOW I was sad to see the presentation they use to give and prices were high which I understand with today's economy but at least keep the same quality!! Whenever I'm in the mood for fries or a hamburger and In-n-Out is too crowded, I like to go to Jim's! I've been coming to Jim's since I was 5 and it's been a family favorite. The breakfast menu is pretty good! I've tried their hamburgers, fries, shakes and ice cream. My orders differ based on what I'm in the mood for. The fries are always perfectly made fresh which is my favorite! From their hamburgers, chili dogs, fries, chili fries, breakfast, sundaes, avocado burger, sandwiches, and sundaes, they are pretty consistent with everything. I was craving for some fast food and knew this Jim's location has a drive-thru. I went on a Saturday at around 5:30 pm. I was surprised to see the drive thru not busy. However, many of the parking spots in the back were full. I was particularly craving a double cheese burger, so I got that with a side of chili cheese fries. I got the burger with no adjustments. Something that stood out was that the patty was crispy. For the ratio, I felt there was a good amount of onion, lettuce, tomatoes, and grilled onions. For the future, I'll probably adjust the order to grilled onions with no tomato. For the chili cheese fries, it tasted okay. There was nothing that stood out for it, so I wouldn't get it again. This may be a little biased as I haven't a customer of Jim's since my childhood. So, take it for what it's worth. I will always support the mom & pop restaurant's because you always get the best service and product and service is supporting their livelihood directly! But, regardless, Jim's also makes their burgers the way I like them which is grilled and they only have the freshest food (including the amazing soft-served cones)! Jim's is located between 2 major off-ramps of the I-10 freeway so it is convenient to pick up to and from DTLA. Lately these past couple of weekends have been me reuniting with restaurants I had not been to in a long time. I use to live in San Gabriel from 1992 to 2005. In that time I ate at Jim's quite often. Their hamburgers are great as well as the zucchini fries, onion rings and french fries and their large portions are large. This Saturday I decided to visit my old friend for breakfast. I ordered their breakfast burrito with bacon. No potatoes and I added beans instead. i ordered a coffee and sat at a booth and patiently waited for my order. It did not take long, about 5 minutes, for them to bring out my order. I walked up to the counter and asked if I could get some homemade hot sauce. The bacon that they use is good thick quality bacon and their hat sauce is great. The next time I come down I will order a cheeseburger and zucchini fries. It has been 20 years since my last visit and I will definitely be coming back. Maybe I'll bring my brother with me because he and I lived in San Gabriel during that time. Keep up the good work. Still been going to Jim's since my last review a year ago. The four star Yelp average is right for Jim's Burgers. The people who work here are still nice and the food is still good. There are still better local burger places out there. However, Jim's is probably still one of the better local burger spots in SGV. I still have not tried their breakfast. Their Turkey burger has not changed in quality. The quality of their fries is just ok, but the portions are huge. The fries can proably serve three people. They charge may charge for ranch so either pay, bring your own, or get take out annd have some on hand at home. The burger comes with onions, lettuce, and tomato. They still seem to toast their sesame seed buns and the toasting quality still varies, sometimes great, sometimes too toasty. I still have not tried them, but many reviewers like their chili cheese fries, so those are definitely worth a try in the future. The website for the original Jim's claims to have "started in 1958 in the City of Bell, California" and that each Jim's is independently operated and thus the reason for the different menus at each location. I have seen but have not tried the other locations. Based on this location, I would give the other locations a try. Like many places I visit, I believe Jim's cooks to order, so if you do not want to wait for your food, then order ahead. Their lot is a little small, but I still have not seen it overcrowded. They have drive through. Check out the yelp menus others posted because Jim's has a lot of other stuff besides burgers. Some histories of Jim's on the internet say it was opened by a Greek man, but historically has been run by Hispanic/Latino people and this seems true today and may account for the tacos, burritos, and other similar types of foods many Jim's sell. Some reviewers don't like their burritos and similar types of food, so be wary and maybe get that stuff at some of the good restaurants in the area that sell it. If you want a break from the burger chains, then Jim's is still a good place to try for a burger. read more

Over a decade later and Jim's is still a Rosemead staple with their delicious chili cheese fries. I hope I can take my kids and grandkids here someday, that's how great this spot is! My go-to is a large order of Chili Cheese Fries ($7.65) and Fried Zucchini ($5.79). Trust me and get the large for only $1-2 more than the small. It's absolutely worth it and you're going to want more, especially as leftovers. They also overfill your bag, so it's perfect for sharing with a group. I love how piping hot the food is when you receive it, so you know it's freshly made. The drive-thru makes ordering pickup super convenient and they employees are so friendly. Very disappointed with my recent visit to Jim's Famous 1/4 Pound Burgers. Used to eat here about once a week and loved it. Used to be great value and so fresh and delicious. What happened??? On Monday, 9/30/24, ordered a Hamburger Combo (1/4 pound burger, fries, soda). Nothing was good. Hamburger bun was stale, burger was not tasty, fries were subpar, and even the fountain soda seemed a bit "off". Used to love the free pickled carrots and this time they were absolutely terrible. I mentioned it to the server when she delivered my meal to my table and she apologized and had someone swap out the entire batch of carrots, however I did not go back and taste the new batch. So sad that this place is not what I remember from the pre-Covid time period. It used to be literally packed during lunchtime and it was absolutely empty during the noon timeframe when I was there. It felt like I was eating a solid home-cooked burger without fancy sauce. It was as classic of cheeseburger as you can get (in a good way).
