This diner is pretty terrible. I've tried to like it because it's a convenient option if you're drunk, starving with no food at home at 2am, etc. But nothing I've had here is even remotely good, it's edible, but that's about the only positive thing I can say. One star for being 24 hr, another star because it's good enough that if I was starving and had no choice, I'd eat here. There are far better diners in the area. read more

Since I was a child I have been going here. This is always my famlies choice for quick, good food. Their menu is massive and last week when I went I noticed the prices have defintely gone up. (All of their wraps were $10.95!!) I thought that was a little steep. I love their desserts, and they have a wide selection of typical diner food. The place is very clean and the booths are nice and roomy. What I do not like is when I go there the waitstaff is always inconsistant. Either I have a great waiter/waitress or they are horrible and I want to hit them with my french fries. I usually ask for an older woman with blonde hair SHE IS AMAZING. I think they need to re-vamp their waitstaff. Overall, love this place and yet another place where the green goddess dressing is AMAZING. read more

This family owned diner is my go-to from Greek food. Even though they are a broad spectrum diner, I love their chicken souvlaki. It's a pita with lettuce, tomato and season chicken on top that I get a side of "house" (green goddess) dressing to mix/dip the contents into. I wish that I could give this place -1000. I love this place besides the absolute two terrible big mouth waitresses!!! One most definitely worse than the other. I was there maybe two Saturdays ago (my husband just reminded me to post this) and this one absolutely disgusting who I have had the displeasure of having waitress was swearing up and down and screaming and punching her fist into her hand yelling IN THE DINING ROOM IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS!!! INEXCUSABLE!!! I Have had that specific waitress before and while I would be talking to the wonderful older owner with the accent she would tell her to leave and say she was annoying us, absolutely untrue. She was a pleasure, and I made sure the waitress and the owner knew that. You are the unpleasant one. She swears, texts on the phone on while in front of customers , yells at other customers and workers. I made sure to try and get anyone but her but she still makes me experience there terrible. This woman should be fired!!!!! She is what is representing your establishment!!! Absolutely disgusting. This is your standard diner. We usually frequent this place for a late lunch or dinner. They have a very large menu, with very large portions. I wouldn't expect gourmet dining here, but you will definitely get your money's worth. The servers are friendly and polite. Overall it was a good diner experience. Major plus for being open 24 hours, it's a great place to stop after clubbing in New Haven. read more

Went here twice over the past two months for brunch. I was hoping the first time was a fluke. Alas, it was not. Now, Athena II isn't horrible by any means. It's just sort of... Meh. I don't think they have any seasonings in their kitchen, as the food was bland to the point where it felt like I was eating tasteless matter. Even the corned beef hash was flavorless! As far as service, the waitstaff is generally pleasant, but seem to sort of rush you along. You won't walk out upset, but you won't be getting the best service you've ever had. All in all, the place leaves a lot to be desired. I haven't gotten breakfast food in the morning there, so maybe it's better then? Not very willing to chance it, though. read more

Pretty good Greek diner with a big menu, reasonable prices, and OPEN LATE! Check out the HUGE pastries in the bakery. The food is OK. Pretty much standard diner stuff. The fried zucchini sticks were tasty. Spanakopita was OK, huge and somewhat sloppy, didn't seem entirely fresh but still tasty. Came with a yummy Greek salad. Be careful, if you order a burger with fries it's "deluxe" (costs more). Service is efficient if not overly friendly. read more

Came here for dinner on recommendation by Best Western front desk. Excellent diner choices - including children's menu. We got breakfast for dinner - which is a bonus when traveling. The veggie omelet and banana pancakes were delicious. Our waitress, Kelly F (117), was outstanding. She was appropriately attentive. She was also very understanding of our 3 travel-tired children. She made sure they were taken care of right away and even called on our son by his first name to ask him a question. We have not had that type of service from a waitress in a long time. read more

We went for breakfast and the food was really good! I had pastrami and eggs - pastrami was lean and eggs were cooked perfectly. My daughter got the French toast and cleared her plate - not a regular thing for her. The hash was canned, but still really good. The food is below average and I have been there a few times because I live near by, but this inconsiderate establishment stole money from me and then defended the wait staff that had done this . Long story short the service sucked so I left a dollar tip on a $16 buck meal. Two days later I got a notification that my bank balance was negative by about 8 bucks and upon reviewing my account I found a $27 charge from the dinner . Our waitress had added a one to the dollar tip and altered the 1 in the 17 to make the new total look like 27. The owner did not apologize or offer any sort of compensation. This was the most unprofessional and criminal establishment in the north haven area . The food is shit anyways, and there are plenty of good places near by. read more

Service was awful! I ordered breakfast and when my meal was brought to the table the waitress said "we don't have time to make the order you placed". I only ordered the 2 egg the breakfast special (a regular menu item)...imagine a more complicated request. If you want reasonable service, don't go here. Classic Greek diner and being open 24 hours, really terrific for those of us who have to crank out work late. I order the same thing all the time, chicken souvlaki, which is better here than any of the other 6-7 Greek diners from Cromwell to Branford where I've had it. If that's any indication for the rest of the menu, you're going to be happy, and given how popular it is, you probably will be. I went there for some food later last Saturday. The food was good. The waitresses were very nice. The man at the front desk, Utka or Utko, something like that, was one of the rudest people I have ever encountered. We asked if we could split the bill on two debit cards and he refused and said something under his breath. After he threw our cards back at us I said politely "There is no reason to be rude." He then looked up at me, smirking and asked "if I frequent there because he doesn't recognize me." As if I would be treated better if he remembered me? I am from a town over and have certainly been there before, but I assured him I would never come there again. As we left our waitress along with another waitress came up to us and apologized for Utka's behavior and went on to say that he treats them just as disrespectful and urged us to follow through with a complaint. After hearing this man also treats the staff that way I was more inclined to make a complaint. I am 27 years old, not some drunk underage kid that I sure stumbles in there and causes problems after the bar now and again. I was with 3 other adults (who work down the street) and I can say with certainly that none of us would return to that diner unless that man was gone. As a business owner in this economy losing any customers has to be troublesome. This man is losing business for the owners and creating a toxic work environment. I suggest the waitresses talk to a lawyer. read more

Service, food quality and value have been steadily declining over the last 5 years, but today: over-charged/double charged and experienced rude service from management. It's become my families new hangout place. It's a diner so during the day it's loud but the service is nice but sometimes they forget things, the food is good. When I want pancakes at 2am I have a place to go. Happy we found this place. They seat you and are extremely welcoming. Saturday mornings are perfect for good food and reading. read more

The food is ok, very popular because its a local diner, but for a diner the coffee is awful. I have been there on a few occasions and the coffee is always nasty. That's kind of a diner thing ... good coffee, but not there. A few other people have mentioned to me they think the coffee is bad there now too. The diner was horrible. From the moment I sat down with my family, I had a strong feeling we were going to get bad service. I would have let if it was just me, but my nephews were with me and it would have been a hassle trying to find somewhere else. The waitress was in WAY too much of a hurry. She took one of our parties drink orders and just assumed it meant for all of us. He just wanted a water, so we all got water, no big deal. Ordered a philly cheek steak with french fries and a coke. We got our food fast, I will give you that, but there was little steak on the sandwich and no cheese. It was on a hard roll, for a 10.00 sandwich I thought that was pricey. I brought it to the waitress's attention. When the waitress returned she brought back the same sandwich with cheese slightly melted in moments. The steak was rubbery, like it was microwaved. Don't know if they did it both times but I was quite upset at this point. I would have rather went to Wendy's down the street. I spoke to the person at the cashier, I told him I didn't want anything, just that I was upset, never coming again, and the food was terrible. His response. Thank you. Kinda polite but really? Went here for a bite to eat late last night after getting out of work. Upon coming in, the manager asked me if my Starbucks cup was garbage. I said no, and she said she had to throw it out, we don't accept outside drinks. I was a little upset but didn't let it bother me. Our waitress brought over my side salad that was not only full of wilted lettuce and orange tomatoes, but there was also a hair. After telling our waitress, she brought it up to the kitchen staff, and they all made a big fuss. I got my quesadilla shortly after, and my waitress informed me that the salad was free. Thank god because I took 2 bites! After taking a few bites of the quesadilla, I found another hair cooked right into it. Immediately, we had the manager come over, and the first words out of her mouth were, "you can leave." This was just after telling her about the second hair. She picked up the plate and made a big scene in front of other customers examining it, saying it looked like a hair had fallen on top. Nope, it was cooked in. No apology or offer for new food was made. Instead, we were told to leave. She yelled across the restaurant that our food was free and that we needed to leave. I let her know that I too work in the food service industry and I would never treat a customer like that, and she said she was sorry I took it that way but we can leave. I think it's also important to note that another waitress went to the bathroom with her apron on, which is a serious health code violation. To think that the manager thought my Starbucks drink was unsanitary. Ha. I think it's safe to say that after 25 years of coming here we won't be back. read more
