It's no secret that I'm a stickler for home-made corned beef hash. I am delighted to report that Athens Diner NAILED IT! The last time I had home-made hash worth mentioning was at least four years ago at Sylvester's in western Mass. The typical mistake I find is that the "hash" is really just chunks of meat and chunks of potato served together, making either a stew or a stir-fry, depending on execution. Personally, when I ask for home made hash I'm requesting something that is the same basic look and consistency of canned hash, but with none of the suspicion that I may actually be eating dog food. Again, Athens nailed it! I had the Irish eggs benedict and the hash tasted like true corned beef, but mashed up nicely with finely diced potatoes in that classic canned way. After living in NY for ten years I was really nervous about Vermont diner food, but now I know where I can get a reliable diner fix! I'm excited to go back and try out some of their Greek offerings. read more

Solid food, every single time! One of our favorite breakfast spots is Sneakers located in the Winooski circle. It is worth the wait, but the wait times can be excessive, 1-2 hours on the weekends... so we discovered Athens when we gave up and looked for somewhere new. The quality of food at Athens is very good, not farm to table fresh like Sneakers but for "diner" food, it is on point. Once in a while there is a wait for a booth but we always are able to belly up to the counter and eat right away. We are a big fan of their skillets and it's nice being able to order breakfast all day. The things off of the lunch menu are equally good as well and the service is wicked fast. Not Libby's but pretty darn close. Hearty food, good prices. They even have some Greek choices. You won't leave hungry.

An authentic diner experience, complete with booths, red-topped counter stools, and servers who call you "Hon" and "Sweetie." My lamb gyro was overstuffed with tasty seasoned meat, veggies, and tzatziki, accompanied by fries and a pickle, for a reasonable price. I will be back! read more

Went here for breakfast. Good menu, solid food, quick service. I got the biscuits and gravy with cheesy hash browns and a side of bacon. The biscuits were (or seemed) fresh baked, the gravy was great and the cheesy hashbrowns were tasty. Bacon was pretty good, nothing out of the ordinary. For a solid diner option in the area, this is a good one to pick. read more

This has been my favorite diner in Colchester/ Burlington. I brought my post- wedding party to Athens for breakfast and was not disappointed. The waitstaff is friendly, funny and enjoy their job. And we enjoy them. The food is always great and plentiful. Will continue to be a regular at Athens and bring more friends to their door! read more

Stopped in on a wet & foggy Monday morning recently. Needed something in our bellies before driving home to Boston. What a great breakfast. We both had the Vermonter Breakfast Skillet.. Absolutely delicious. Home fries on the bottom were nice & crispy, the corned beef hash was homemade and the eggs on top were made perfectly to order. With a very friendly & sassy waitress to serve it all up, it was a great meal and a great ending to a superb weekend in Vermont. read more

Good old fashion diner! From the 50's style counter to the retro Pepsi style click on the wall, this place steps back in time to when the local diner was the place to catch breakfast. Average diner food on the simple menu. Every option is good but it's more about the experience here. ZERO 0 Stars. Sent my plate back. Egg white still runny. After getting back everything was smoking hot but same cut in egg revealed egg whit runny not cooked. One cup of coffee for 2.05 and not offered another nor did we see our waitress until bill after I told them to keep the breakfast. Explained I got one cup of coffee and cashier did not care. Never again. $42.00 for my families cold food and I am hungry. read more

I grew up in NYC, and eating at Diner's was great for me. Living in Vermont now is not the same as NYC, which means Diners aren't as abundant than they are in a big city. Athens though is as NYC as it gets. A full diner menu and breakfast served all day. Not only are you sat quickly, the food is served to you within 10 minutes of ordering it and is always nice and HOT. I generally order the corned beef hash (homemade) and is fantastic. Great staff to go along. My girlfriend and I eat here at least 3 times a month. read more

I went there for the first time last weekend since I'd been wanting to try it for some time. I was a bit disappointed there wasn't more in the way of Greek items on the menu, but it is a diner. I ordered the gryo platter that came with a small piece of spanokopita, and nice salad, pita bread slices and 2 skewers of pork pieces. Overall it was good but the pork was dry and overcooked. The wait staff were super busy but were very pleasant and attentive. The A/C must've been turned high or something b/c it was a tad warm and humid in there, almost uncomfortable. Will I return? Probably not, but i'm glad I tried it out. read more

Don't let the name "Athens" throw you off as to what's on the menu. They serve usual diner fare with a broad variety of burgers, sandwiches and entrees. I was a long time fan of "LIbby's Blue LIne Diner" and ate breakfast there every Sunday for 3 years. After eating a burger there last weekend I am happy to say that all that has changed is the exterior. Excellent cooking and a majority of the friendly wait staff remains the same. However, I was surprised that the burger was much more delicious since the change of management! Athen's Diner is my new home for Sunday brunch! read more

Absolutely my favorite diner since moving to Vermont! We go there almost every week and it's always a great experience.

My fiancé and I went in for a late breakfast on Thursday at 11 am. It wasn't busy but it wasn't slow either. We were sat quickly and the staff was friendly. We were asked what we wanted to drink quickly as well. Waters came out fast. While looking at the menu we noticed prices didn't seem the same as we saw online. We ordered shortly after and our meals came out within 15 minutes. It was cool how fast we got our food. All of the food was good. I got The Athens skillet and it was good. Came with a homemade biscuit that my fiancé thought was good. Fresh ingredients and a good combination of flavors. A good portion size too. My fiancé got the Irish Eggs Benedict. She enjoyed it. The homemade hash was great. No complaints about the food. Our waitress checked in with us and made sure I had plenty of water once she realized I drank the first class fast. We decided to get a dessert to go. Maple Cream pie. MMM really good. The bill was okay but as we noticed earlier prices have gone up within the last year. We looked at their menu online on Urban Spoon from 10/17/12 before going in. A lot of items increased $1. The Irish Eggs Benedict went from $10.25 to $11.95. The increase in price is what made me rate a 3 instead of a 4. Check out the prices on the menu in the diner before ordering because they are not the same as the menu that is online from 10/17/12. This place has really changed for the better under the new management. We went there for late breakfast/early lunch yesterday and it was excellent. I had the house-made corned beef hash and eggs and my wife had a chicken salad wrap, the kids had breakfast stuff too. They loved it as did we. It was well worth the stop and we'll be regulars now. As Libby's, the place was getting a little 'tired'. The new team has freshened up both the restaurant and the menu with great results. The place was packed, too, always a good sign. read more

Arrived this morning at 11:25 we had a party of six told it was going to be 15 minutes it took over an hour to seat us. Very poor management at the front counter was told twice it wouldn't be long and we continue to wait. The girl at the front counter said everyone that comes in with a party of more than four are going to wait a long time. Wish they had told us it was going to take an hour not sure we would've stayed. She says you know what Sunday we're always busy on Sunday. I guess that's the last time we will be going there on Sunday or any other time. read more

Greek salad is the best around.... Greens recently changed to field greens. I prefer the romaine lettuce & the crunch it has. I've never been disappointed with a meal here. Staff super friendly & consistent. read more

Great views! The food is well prepared and the portions are generous. If you're tired of the standard New England diner fare, this menu will be a nice change because there are several Greek-inspired choices. The corned beef has was excellent--made with real corned beef, not some sort of canned, pressed meat product. Our server was very friendly and the service was fast. This is a great place, especially if you want to get away from the crowds in Burlington on a busy fall weekend. read more
