Been here twice with my in laws who love this place. It's a smaller more out of the way diner but worth checking out if your going to be in the Middle Island area. I love this place! This is not your "typical diner". The food is fresh and tasty, Of course there are Greek favorites that are superb. The chicken gyro is one of the best I've had. The Greek salads are great, always freshly made with high quality feta cheese. I am a creature of habit and generally order the same things, I really love the Stuffed Flounder with Crabmeat and the Farmhouse Chicken entrees. Breakfast is also excellent here, and I generally order a "special" omelette with spinach, tomato, bacon, and swiss cheese, it's delicious and make sure that you get the home fries, some of the best I've ever had. I've only ever ordered out from this diner but the couple times that I have I was impressed they have an awesome 1/1/1 deal 1 pancake or French toast one egg any style and 1 meat (bacon/sausage/ham) I got myself a traditional gyro and it was delicious their rzatziki was the best part!! read more

Went to the Athens Diner on Middle Country rd in Middle Island and I can not explain how awesome this place is!!! From the moment you walk through the door and are greeted you feel like you are home. The servers and owners are always very friendly, attentive and thankful for you being there. so I ordered A Swiss burger with mushrooms and well done French fries a side of coleslaw and Chicken Avgolemono soup. Let's start with the soup. This soup was delicious it's was so creamy and tasty with a hint of lemon that was just right. It was so good that the person I was with my cousin Stacy Brooks never had it so the owner surprised her with a cup and she loved it to. My burger was cooked perfect to the way I ordered it medium rare and very tasty. I always ask for my Fries very well done and the Athens diner never lets me down they always come out perfectly well done, crunchy on the outside and soft and potatoy on the inside. The coleslaw was also delicious nice and creamy and very tasty. The picture may look a little different because I always get my burger with out the bun. Also in the picture you can see my cousins western omelette which she loved.. now for the best part of any food review time for the pictures... lol -- eating lunch at Athens Diner. read more

One star because the French fries were good and the other star because the waitress was nice. I ordered a simple grilled cheese and it was barely toasted and the cheese was barely melted you can still see the slices of cheese and it was cold. How can they not know how to make a grilled cheese??? the chicken wings my fiancé ordered were pretty dry. Although I've heard they're new or under new ownership, can absolutely tell that the employees here are doing the best they can. I walked in with a friend and was greeted right away by a very friendly woman. It wasn't approach by just the expected greetings from any employee, but a friendly welcoming from an employee that was psyched about their job! Or at least cares about their job. The food was plenty good. The order didn't take too long, great sized portions, and definitely tasty food. Also, coffee had free refills. I just wanted to update my original review. I've had breakfast and lunch here many times, but just recently started coming here for dinner. What a great idea that was! Went with Mom for lunch, we like diners, and the new owners at Athens have a winner. It is clean, friendly and the food good. I had a greek salad with grilled shrimp, and the shrimp and vegies were freshly grilled and tasty. I will try them for breakfast next time, but I think I found a new, goto place. read more

What a great find. The man at the front gives you a warm welcome when you first walk in, including a handshake. You don't see this in the downstate NY area! Our server Denise was fantastic and let us sample one of the soups. She was very attentive. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. It felt like eating at a family gathering.
