    Half order Calamari Platter
    Katrina V.

This is my daughter's fave Mediterranean food. We tried the seal beach location as was in the neighborhood shopping. Clean and good service. Few patrons that time as we were early. Recommend the chicken lemon soup as it's soo tasty. Calamari and kebabs are consistent. The falafel was ok as it was dry. Overall recommend for decently priced Mediterranean fare

Take your human friends to this place then walk to the beach after and let off some toots (farts).

We came, we saw , we shish kebabed . Blacking out the prices ??? Little shady ... little scammyish (had to make up a word for this crazy ish) it gives hella shady shady, BUT the service was good , the food was EXCELLENT! The meat was top tier quality worth every penny. And the vibe was "IM HELLA RICH . SITTING ON THE PATIO EATING BOMB GREEK FOOD ON A PAPER PLATE WHILE MORE HELLA RICH PEOPLE WALK BY AND WATCH ME" . I HIGHLY recommend this place if you're in the area. Parking was legit , we took a nice walk to the beach after. I can see myself coming back with my family and making it a habit. Thank you , gentlemen PUT PRICES ON YOUR MENU!!!!!!!!!

My husband and I came in on a Saturday night during a dinner rush. We got through the line remarkably quickly, but there was an understandable wait for the food. Not a lot of tables were available but we were able to snag a spot on the patio. Overall, the vibe was super casual and borderline dive-y; not saying it judgementally, there was some obvious history to this place. We both got gyros (made spicy) with a side of steak fries. The meat from the gyro was super tender and the spicy feta was SO good. The veggies all seemed very fresh, and their tzatziki recipe is top tier. The fries standalone were kinda cold and not the best, but all the toppings made them bomb. The steak on the steak fries was soooo tender, we were both surprised by the texture. The grilled red peppers and onions added a slight sweetness, with a generous sprinkling of herbs and feta cheese on the top. It was a mountain of deliciousness. We will definitely be back!

I tried this place randomly one day after a beach trip, and I fell in love!! The food is fresh, high quality, and the portions are great!! Their hummus is TO DIE FOR!!!! Amazing service, too!

Came in for takeout during lunch time on Friday. Super relax, chill vibe. Not busy with couple tables inside and several out in the patio overlooking the parking lot. Parking was no deal (yet). Street parking (free for 2hrs) and parking lot(s) is/are to pay for. Service is friendly, great, and fast. Easy order and fast turnaround since I was the only one ordering. I got the gyro and it was delicious and packed of juicy & well mixed meats and fresh & cold veggies. Will come back for more and with fries next time.

    Veggie Platter $16.99

We love coming down to Seal Beach to walk around and try the many restaurants. This is our second visit to Athens West in a month. Got the Veggie platter again ($16.99), it was so good! They accidentally gave me fries instead of the orzo pasta but luckily my husband didn't mind switching with me. The nice thing about eating here is you don't feel super stuffed afterwards and can have a nice walk on the pier instead of instantly going home to take a nap. The only thing I would change is the falafels - they are super hard on the outside and very dark brown. Maybe they've been twice fried. Almost broke my plastic fork trying to cut into them. I don't know if they would do a substitution for more dolma or spanokopita but it doesn't hurt to ask. It won't keep us from coming back.

I'm on a strict low carb diet so while in Seal Beach it was difficult to find a place with good food choices. I always enjoy Greek food so my first thought was maybe they offer a good Greek salad. I ordered the gyro salad and my husband ordered the super gyro pita. Both were very good. My salad hit the spot and was very satisfying. The salad is made with fresh greens, tomatoes, kalamata olives and thinly sliced red onions. They give you a decent amount of gyro meat too. It comes with a vinaigrette dressing which is light and tasty. My husband enjoyed his gyro pita sandwich which was packed with gyro meat plus my pita bread that came with my salad. Staff is friendly and service was quick. The place is small with limited indoor seating but they do have a covered outside patio too. I would definitely return here again next time I'm visiting the Seal Beach area.

Great food and a great value. This place was recommended by Facebook Foodie Page, so I thought I would give it a try as part of my Mediterranean food extravaganza. I tried various dishes at over a dozen Mediterranean restaurants in a 6-month period. I got the super gyro, and it come with extra meat. It did not disappoint. There was a hardy portion of meat. I felt like onions were a little excessive so I will ask them on the side next time. There is street parking, and it can get a little tricky depending on the day of the week and the time. The staff was friendly, and the service was good.

    Receipt of paid order!

Very disappointed in the lack of communication and the service, my wife placed an order on the 29th. Order was to be ready, at 3:45. I was here at 3:20 and when I arrived the gentleman said sorry we are closed, they were to close at 3:30 that day! I understand closing early because of the holidays, I don't understand why he wouldn't credit our order. He told me I had to deal with DoorDash and I repeated to him I don't have DoorDash I ordered this through your website! I hate leaving negative reviews but I'm hoping this will get to the owner and he can do right. I asked to speak to management and he said to write a letter, I asked when will owner be here he said I don't know I see him every two weeks! Ridiculous customer service, i returned twice looking for a credit of the food we purchased!

Truly not what I was expecting. But not as bad as it looks tho. Won't go back but don't regret my decision. I live right around the corner and stopped by a couple of times, I never knew what to order & the kids working the register don't really know how to explain the plates and always awkwardly stare at you as you stare at the menu. So I always walked out. This time I went in really hungry & had my husband who was also really hungry. After some back and forth & attempts to try to get the kids working help with our decision, we said "might as well try it" just happy to have gotten it out of my system. FYI the rice isn't rice. It's like a pasta. No flavor. But some flavor. Hard to explain. Probably why the kids working the register don't try explaining the plates.

Good enough. Admittedly, this wasn't our first choice for Greek food but we discovered that ILIOS Greek Mediterranean closed up shop and Athens West just happened to be down the street. I really can't compare apples to apples here because ILIOS was a full-service restaurant with date night vibes whereas Athens West is more casual. Both have their merits. I ordered the Veggie Kabob Platter. It comes with grilled mushroom, tomato, bell pepper, onion, and zucchini. I appreciate the variety and heartiness of the large chunks of produce. The salad was tasty too. It comes with red onion, cucumber, tomato, kalamata olives, and pepperoncini lightly dressed in Greek dressing. Between the veggie kabobs and the salad, I appreciate the freshness of the ingredients. The fries were a bit under-seasoned but nothing that hummus and/or hot sauce couldn't fix. The hummus had a garlicky-good flavor. Couldn't tell you if it was freshly made in-house or not but it was the best part of my meal. https://bit.ly/3OJNd2Y Service was good for what it was. At first, I felt uneasy because the cashier didn't greet us at the door and we stood in front of him staring at the menu while he stared at us waiting for us to order for an awkwardly...long...time...lol! But once we engaged, he was actually quite helpful. When I requested for my order to be vegan, he confirmed that he would modify my order without the feta cheese. I like that the menu clearly marks what is vegetarian as well as marks what can be vegan. While I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way for this place, it's a solid option if in the area. If I come back, I will definitely check out their falafel next time. I also give bonus points to Athens West for having a private parking lot in an area where the neighboring businesses mostly only have street parking.

Hi Cindy, no we do not.

I thought gyros came with fries? I ordered a take away gyro and it had no fries?

Hey John, yes we all want fries here's the deal here... The sandwiches are sold by themselves and you can ADD fries & Salad or Double fries / Salad for $2.50. YES! You can always order Lamb O Rama Pita that has fries stuffed into it. Thanks!

Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of those expectations. To begin with the positives, the staff were warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive throughout our visit. The outdoor patio on Second Street also provides a pleasant atmosphere and remains one of the restaurant's strongest features. Regrettably, the food was consistently disappointing. The gyro was dry and appeared as though it had been sitting for some time before being served. The pita was noticeably soggy, undersized, and lacked the texture and freshness one would expect. The accompanying salad consisted of low-quality greens that did not appear fresh, and it was served with what tasted like bottled dressing rather than a house-made vinaigrette. Having considerable familiarity with food preparation and dressings, the difference was immediately apparent. The calamari was acceptable but entirely unremarkable, and at $17 it did not justify its price. We also ordered a gyro salad, which suffered from the same issues as the sandwich: dry meat, uninspired presentation, and ingredients that lacked freshness. Ironically, the French fries were the most enjoyable item we received--competent, but hardly enough to elevate the overall meal. What made the experience particularly disappointing was not simply the quality of the food, but the imbalance between quality and price. I have no objection to paying premium prices when they are matched by premium ingredients, careful preparation, and attention to detail. In this case, however, the value proposition simply was not there. Based on this visit, I cannot recommend George's Greek Cafe. While the hospitality deserves recognition, the kitchen did not deliver a meal that reflected either the restaurant's reputation or its pricing. I sincerely hope management reexamines its commitment to ingredient quality, consistency, and execution, because the restaurant has the potential to offer a much better dining experience than what we encountered.

Our beef was a textbook medium rare and was so juicy and tender, as was the rest of the meat. The chicken was so moist and flavorful, as was all the shawarma. All meats were seasoned beautifully. The rice underneath was stunning as well and really caught all the juices from the meat on top. Ambiance (5/5): Although we didn't sit inside, it was super cute, with classy boho vibes. The restroom was clean and well-decorated (although, not gonna lie, I don't know how I felt about the big mirror facing the toilet). The outside patio area was airy, and although right by the street, I didn't find it unpleasant. Service (3/5): It was just so-so. They sat us down quickly, gave us our menus and checked on us maybe twice. It wasn't super busy, but we had to wait to ask for things like extra plates and water for our dog. Food Overall (5/5): Food was delicious. We got the beef shawarma lunch special and got fries for the side (extra charge) and also the chicken shawarma lunch special with the hummus side. Beef Shawarma (4/5): It had a nice toasty flavor, perhaps from the spices, and the pickled veggies really complemented it. My only complaint was that I wish it had a bit more of the white sauce (maybe adding more hummus would have helped). It was also strangely a bit watery, maybe from the veggies. Overall, it was still a yummy wrap. Chicken Shawarma (5/5): The chicken shawarma tasted more balanced to me overall. I don't recall the meat being dry, although I did also slather it with a bit of hummus. I thoroughly enjoyed this wrap. Fries side (5/5): Their fries are made in house and it tastes so fresh. It was crispy on the outside yet still gooey and moist on the inside. I'm not sure if they make their own ketchup too, as it looked clumpier and tasted really fresh too. The kids gobbled this up. Hummus and pita (5/5): It came with a generous amount of both hummus and pita. The hummus was well flavored and blended, and it really complemented everything on the table. The pocket pita bread was not what I had in mind (I'm used to thicker ones), but the kids really loved it overall. Ice cream (4.5/5): We ordered two scoops from the dessert menu. They were both really thick, creamy and almost chewy like liquidized mochi. It was a very interesting texture but nonetheless a nice tasty treat on a hot day. I much preferred the vanilla bean, as the pistachio tasted and looked rather artificial (and I'm a pistachio ice cream lover). This place had so many to-go orders during the afternoon we were there. I can see why. Food is super fresh and tasty. I think we will be back the next time we are visiting.

My husband ordered Jumbo Shrimp Ka-Box. The description read "4 charbroiled jumbo prawns with grilled vegetables, broccoli, and pita bread. Served with your choice of rice and spread. The vegetables in his order looks over charred and He did not get broccoli in his order. And the shrimp did not look jumbo and it was overcooked. I ordered the Falafel Ka-Box. I wish they would have given me my spreads cos my meal would have been dry without it (imo). Since I had no spread, my husband ended giving me his which meant he had no spread for his meal. I wish they would have done better because I was craving food from here for so long and other locations I have been to, I have never had this problem.
