The ABSOLUTE worst meal I have ever had. The $70 Ribeye I ordered showed up as a slab covered in disgusting brown sauce, and was definitely NOT a ribeye. TOTALLY inedible. Like shoe leather. My husband had the chicken with the same awful brown sauce on it. My daughter's fish had scales and bones in it. HORRIFIC. This is my first review, I never send food back or complain but this was beyond horrible. Luckily we stopped at the Shrimp Shack and got some takeout on the way home. My experience here was alright, while staying at the checca lodge I was looking to enjoy a yummy dinner with a great view. While the service seemed rushed as if closing time was approaching and the server was looking to have us leave quickly. The food was subpar for the cost. We enjoyed the conch fritters generous in size while the crab cake was literally one cake to share. The grouper was very tasty with a little too much lemon zest. The ambiance is amazing. Jamson our waiter was really nice and attentive. Apps were really good. My dinner came out cold but tasty. My girlfriend wanted to take food to go from her meal but the waiter cleared it without asking if we wanted to take anything home with us. My wine said it was $26 a glass in the menu but it came to $30 a glass on the bill. Also my Lemon drop martini was made with a salt rim and I when we said something about it they just brought us a sugar rum glass instead of re making it and I still couldn't drink it. Overall great place to just look out at the ocean but for what you are paying for price wise you are better off eating somewhere else. So I love Cheeca Lodge...and had not been there since their remodel. The place looks fabulous as always...but the restaurant lacked a few things. The ceviche i had, beautifully served on a cracked coconut was definitely not fresh...apparently it had been made since the morning! Not good! I also had the short rib entree and while it was very tender...it was extremely salty and some of the veggies were crunchy, like potatoes. My sister had the skirt steak and no one bothered to provide a steak knife. Also not good! Then we shared the tiramisu and last time u checked its supposed to be a coffee based dessert, well it had zero coffee flavor. Not to mention this place is not cheap. The service and food need to improve. The wait staff seemed lost and not on top of their game! read more

We started off with the ceviche appetizer served in a coconut shell. It was fresh and delicious. Paired with a nice New Zealand white wine. I had the catch of the day (white fish) served on a bed of lobster mash and vegetables. Met friends who were staying at Cheeca Lodge here for dinner (their choice) last night. We were seated at a four top, in hard plastic chairs, located next to the entrance to the lobby and by the hostess stand. Many reviewers wrote about the lovely views of the restaurant; this was not one of them. But if you were seated out on the white sands of the beach, under twinkling white lights, you would have to contend with the smoke wafting from the Bar-B-Que being cooked as the "special" for the night. The menus were delivered by the hostess, as well as the menu for the Bar-B-Que for $69.99. Our friends were on vacation from Alabama and were not interested in a seventy dollar BBQ dinner. Truthfully, there was little that interested me about the very limited menu. Despite touting itself as a "Culinary Journey through the Caribbean and Atlantic Ocean" with emphasis on fresh, local ingredients of the Florida Keys, there were only two fish dishes offered- a Grouper Dish for $41 (served atop an avocado) and a "Mojito Shallow Reef Snapper" for $36, which three out of four of us ordered. I ordered the NY Sirloin & Blue Salad for $26, with implicit instructions for the A-1 dressing (yuk) to be served on the side. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio. It arrived but, when poured, was warm. We asked for it to be cooled down, which seemed to confuse the waiter, so we just asked for ice. Bread was delivered, four sour-dough square rolls with butter, which we ate while sipping our warm wine. After a half hour we asked a server for ice, which was obviously forgotten. Our guests had asked for the vegetable of the day to be replaced with asparagus. When our meals arrived (not delivered by our server) the fish arrived with the requested asparagus, but without any rice. The dish was supposed to come with cilantro rice, and had a citrus emulsion sauce on top of the fish filet. My husband ordered more of the sauce, as the fish was a bit dry and we asked for the rice that had been omitted and more salt (which was not working). My salad arrived, the medium-rare steak sliced atop the greens. All of it was DRENCHED in dressing, without any Blue Cheese in sight. Besides the greens, there were cherry tomatoes- red, yellow and green (?), some pickled red onion and a couple shavings of radishes. I scraped as much dressing away as I could and ate the steak and some of the greens of my salad. Our server arrived and I pointed out the dressing was not on the side as I had requested. He offered to replace it, but I didn't want to be sitting there without food, while everyone else finished their dishes, so my dinner was ruined. I hadn't even discovered the lack of blue cheese at that point. We didn't want dessert and the only bright spot in this review is that we didn't pay for our dinner, our friends did. While we weren't seated by the Bar-B-Que, I left there with my hair and clothes reeking of smoke that had drifted over and a sour taste in my mouth. Yet, amazingly, the restaurant was packed with diners. If you're staying at Cheeca Lodge, run- don't walk- away from this restaurant. Or Uber or drive to one of the other Florida Keys restaurants close by that does seafood right, with reasonable prices and good service. So I give this place 5 stars on atmosphere (if you eat on the beach at sunset) and five stars for the crabcake. One of the best I've ever had. However, the filet mignon we had was ice cold and it was served with a pile of cold, greasy onion strings. It was also covered in a rosemary sauce that was not disclosed upon ordering. Felt like I was eating a steamed steak at a bad wedding buffet. The shrimp cocktail was also terrible. Four shrimp on a plate with no presentation and very overcooked. We stayed at the resort for a week in July and ate here several times. We tried the wonderful delicious crab cake several times, the lobster tail, Brussel sprout appetizer and they even cooked fish we caught. The sauce they serve with fish is so yummy, it is a sweet buttery coconut sauce and we all loved it. We can't wait to return next year. We never had a bad meal! Great food great resort. read more

Last minute reservation at Atlantic Edge. Square Grouper stopped taking names so we went here off Open Table. First off, Cheeca Lodge looks like a beautiful place to stay (we were at Amara Cay). First and foremost our server was Nesllie (think I spelled that right) and the busboy / expeditor TJ were two of the nicest, most welcoming people we met all weekend. Super attentive service for two people not even staying at the resort. Wonder what it would be like if we actually stayed there LOL. Nesllie recommended the Mojito Lime Snapper for my fiancé who absolutely loved it. And I took on the dry age 14oz NY Strip which was cooked perfectly with a variety of veggies and potatoes. Great combo. We also took on the Conch Frite app and Truffle Fries. Also enjoyed a dirty martini (her) and old fashion (me). The views from the patio were breathtaking. But nothing topped the service. Those two need raises and 2 days off with full pay. read more

We stayed at the resort, being that it was the night before thanksgiving we decided to stay on the property. first off it was super loud on the patio, and we asked to be seated in the garden section, and we were told it was reserved. The entire 2.5 hours that we sat there, there were empty tables. It took 1.5 hours for our food to come out ! We order the snapper and wagyu burger and the burger was not wagyu for sure . It was regular beef. Highly disappointed . We Wanted a quick get away and this was sub par. We had two drinks and a small appetizer and two entrees. Our total bill was $108 .. not worth it. Wish we had just stick to going off the property. I'm so disappointed, for the pride we paid we should have gotten better value. We were greeted and sat everyone who works here is super friendly.. the atmosphere sitting outside on beach speaks for its self...the waiter super nice but obviously young inexperienced server.. I first ordered the margarita on menu with "smoked salt" it first came out without salt , he seemed surprised that I wanted salt on rim and returned it to add salt.. ok no big deal.. but for diner we decided to split surf and turf (filet with lobster tail).. unfortunately the steak was ordered medium came out bloody rare.. I cut half and asked to be cooked further then as my wife ate hers closer to center was same raw..she decided as I (my recook still rare) not to finish what a shame.. you are offering a filet mignon beautiful piece of meat and do not know how to cook properly.. and charge $75.00 a little excess compared to rest of menu.. we should have been alerted the price when we ordered.. on check it was listed as "open food" so when did they decide the price?? Sorry I don't mind paying but you have to get it right. read more

The service destroyed the dining experience. The whole snapper was great except it took 90 minutes. The seafood pasta dish was watery and thin. The oysters were served with vinegar not a mignonette. We had to wait 20 minutes to get a server to bring horseradish and cocktail. At that point the server literally brought us a pack of catering size crackers and said sorry. It was rediculous. Not a fine dining experience. And to make it worse, they couldn't even handle a breakfast buffet well. We are currently staying at Cheeca Lodge but wanted to make an occasion by eating at this restaurant. From the moment we sat down the service was attentive but not intrusive. We started with a perfectly chilled Rose champagne and the octopus starter. This was followed by the surf and turf special recommended by the waitress. Set only a palm leaf's length away from the azure Atlantic waters, this fine dining establishment is like an undiscovered treasure from a world lost to time. Moving at a pace not much faster than the warm evening breeze, service and atmosphere was relaxed and understated, just like the Keys themselves. The food was dazzling. The amuse of "baked potato" was a clever deconstruction of a familiar flavor, the perfect launching pad for a journey into the exotic. Starters included a fresh ceviche that both showcased the freshness of the fish and elevated the flavor with subtle citrus. And the local "Pinky" jumbo shrimp were succulent and beautiful, the briny freshness almost as captivating as the perfect texture of the wild shrimp. The light salad of local greens, heirloom tomatoes, and burrata added just the right amount of richness and bitterness to both end the 1st course and build anticipation for the main course of line-caught cobia. A fish I am not familiar with, it had a texture that was both firm yet delicate, perhaps more a testament to the perfect execution of its preparation. And the simple grilling allowed its natural oiliness to shine on the palate as brightly as the mid-day Florida sun. A light lemon sauce and gnocchi made the perfect backdrop for a fish that needs little else. Overall, one of my most memorable meals. Eating is about so much more than food, and yet at the same time it's all about the food. Atlantic's Edge manages to walk this fine line with grace and elegance, much like the private beach it sits on. read more

I really have mixed feelings about how to properly review this restaurant. My initial experience was at lunch, with my fiancé and daughter. We each had ordered something different and, overall, were very pleased with everything we ate. The food was interesting, seemed to be made of quality ingredients and tasted great. So we excitedly made a reservation for dinner that evening. Now, keep in mind, this is a very expensive restaurant so our expectations were set accordingly. Our waiter, though friendly enough, couldn't the flakier and somewhat unprofessional (Example: he overheard a private conversation that we were having and then chimed in with his "two cents.") This set the stage for concern about the food that was forthcoming. We each ordered an appetizer. I had the grilled Romaine salad which was okay but inexplicably contained a pile of tiny, unseasoned croutons that clearly came from a supermarket box. My date ordered the conch chowder, which unmistakably smacked of the canned Manhattan clam chowder variety in both flavor as well as texture. Interestingly, it arrived with some type of white foam on top which, in retrospect, may have been to disguise the fact that this was obviously not homemade chowder. Needless to say, we were absolutely shocked at what was being passed off as fine food. However, the main courses were actually quite good. My date had the evening special strawberry grouper and I had the crab cakes. Both entrées seemed fresh and of good quality - maybe not $35 per entrée quality, but reasonable considering that we were dining in the sand, a stones throw away from the Atlantic Ocean on a beautiful evening. My daughter had the filet and said it was really good. We had one dessert - a traditional molten chocolate cake, which was fine. So, all in all, we had fine dining caliber main courses, sports bar caliber appetizers and a casual theme caliber desert, plus a few cocktails. That, and a total bill, including tip that ran $274 for three people. The fact is there are a variety of very high quality restaurants within 2 miles of Cheeca Lodge that I suggest you try out, until the time when Atlantic's Edge starts to get serious about its food and service. read more

The setting is exceptional, beautiful seaside dining makes you feel like your in the South Pacific. The biggest dissapointment was the service, the bus staff was excellent, the waiter was not present. His attempt explaining the specials was plain awful, the food for what they charged was passe, the Key lime Tart and coffee(when you can get it) excellent! Here's the thing..the young man waiting on the table next to us was excellent ! He saved us when we couldn't find our waiter, and there's the difference! Even though I've had better food, this could have been a 4 Star experience with a different waiter. $200 plus night I think we could have done better. read more

Grilled romaine salad is like a deconstructed Cesar salad. The wife had a tropical mahi mahi that she loved! I had the whole fried snapper, very tasty. Came back exactly 1 year later from my first review. The bad: service in the hotel and with the wait staff was lacking this time. The service certainly wasn't as robust, generous and welcoming as my first visit, which was very disappointing because the hospitality during my first visit was very good and refreshing. A quick note to the hotel facilities manager: fluorescent lights are not welcoming or flattering in a dining setting. Make sure all the lights on the dining patio are free of fluorescent bulbs. Warm incandescent lighting is so much more luxurious. The good: the food was excellent. The atmosphere at our table was very good. The welcome at the valet was much better this time around. We miss Chef Barry! My husband I got married here 10 yrs ago. The resort, staff and food were absolutely amazing with Chef Barry at the helm...lobster thermadore and the best lamb ever! Our return 10 yrs later is a disappointment. Realize the resort has had several restarts due to fire and hurricanes but the wait staff are slow and the food is mediocre. Poorly presented, either tasteless or over seasoned. We quickly searched for other local restaurants after our first night here ( highly recommend Ziggie & Mad Dogs, Chef Michael, Bobs Bunz and Pierre's). It's a shame as I have such fond memories of this place and how spectacular everything used to be. read more

My husband surprised me with Mother's Day brunch here while we spent the weekend in Islamorada. What a beautiful location! We were seated outside, upon request, with views of the beautiful landscaping and water beyond. Service was attentive and quick, and the buffet...oh, the buffet! I've enjoyed many special occasion buffets in my lifetime, and while this was not one of the best in terms of variety of foods, it was still very good. The location and service is really the reason for the 4 stars. While I really enjoyed everything I ate from the buffet, I really felt like they could have added more. For $86/person, my expectations were high. There was only one salad (quinoa salad) even offered. The buffet consisted of a carving station, shrimp and oysters, soup, an omelet station, some traditional breakfast items, a waffle station, and desserts. Where were the salads? If this was a brunch buffet, they really missed on their offerings, but again, you're really paying for the views/location. Would I return here for their Sunday brunch buffet for a special occasion? My husband and I went here on New Years Eve for a special prix fix menu. I don't know what this place is like on a regular night, so take that into account when reading this review. But this special dinner, which cost $255 per person, was one of the most overpriced, disappointing dinners I've had. First, the food. The food sounded good on paper, but all of it was premade and pretty bland. There seemed to be no attempt to make anything fresh. It's like they pulled the dish straight out of the fridge. All of the courses were cold except the main course, which left much to be desired for other reasons. There was an option between lobster and beef tenderloin. My husband had the former and I had the latter. The lobster was incredibly rich. The lobster meat itself was delicious and very fresh, but we weren't big fans of the dish itself. The tenderloin was ok, but it really did feel like a standard run-of-the-mill hotel restaurant fare. Not worthy of a $255/person price tag. Not even close. Second, the service. There were a lot of people running around, and our water service was good. But our waiter...my god. He was very nice, but he had so little tact and seemed to have no idea what he was doing all night. He could've been a lumberjack by trade who never spent a day of his life working in food service. He didn't tell us what he was putting in front of us; just kind of clumsily plopped it down. He didn't ask how I wanted my tenderloin cooked, and seemed to forget to bring out certain things that were supposed to be included until we reminded him.
