Attaboy is a unique and awesome spot in the east village, but very hard to get into. We waited 2-3 hours for a phone call that never came, only to realize the host wrote the number down wrong. He then assured we'd be next on the list, but another hour passed and no phone call. We went back, and he promised we'd be next, but there are limited spots (only 1-2 tables) that fit 6 people and they don't rush people. I get it, it's busy, but don't BS. We definitely weren't at the top of the list the first time. Host was BS'ing. Anyway, once we got in it was a worthy experience. Our server was cool, an absolute expert on bartending, and he brought us some really unique drinks that seemed to truly fit everyone's vibe. No menu, just vibes. Everyone enjoyed their drinks and they were pretty strong. Pricy, but that's to be expected. The vibe in Attaboy is dark, social, and semi-loud music. After many attempts to come here, we finally made it on a weekday right at opening by arriving 15 minutes early. We were the first ones seated at the bar as the place quickly filled up. There is no menu here. You tell the bartender what kind of alcohol and flavors you like and they create something special just for you on the spot. The talent of these bartenders is amazing as it's easy to see why it's become one of the top bars in the world. How could they go wrong when each drink is curated specifically for each person? I love whiskey and have been really into Jalapeño margaritas, so I loved how the bartender cleverly added cayenne pepper for that kick in my whiskey cocktail --amazing! Long wait but well worth the experience. I would recommend coming here early to put your name in, go off to have drinks and dinner in the area, and then return when your table is ready. A group of 4 is most ideal so you can get a table but not be too squished. Periodically checking your spot in the queue also helps, our wait got reduced from 4h to 2h due to a no show table. There is no menu so you just let the bartender know what you like and don't like. They are extremely friendly and accommodating. I don't drink alcohol due to lacking the enzyme to digest it but still had the best mocktails of my life here. My flavor profiles were piña colada and cream. I can't believe I actually waited in line for 2.5 hours to experience Attaboy, a speakeasy that has been featured on many "top bars in the world" lists for quite some time. Was it worth it? ...Sure! But damn, next time I'd come way earlier in the evening to avoid that insane queue you can't even see because everyone leaves and comes back once they're texted. Attaboy is small - seats around maybe 20 people. It's inconspicuous and that's what I really liked about the vibe. We put our names down at 22:00 on a Monday night and didn't get seated until 00:30, way past my bed time. The bouncer/server was nice but firm - she's probably seen it all, so don't try to mess with her. Trust the process (and the texting system) and wait your turn. The bar is famous for not having a menu or list. You simply tell the bartender what you enjoy and they'll make you a cocktail. Each one will set you back $20 which is not terrible for the experience. My friends and I were seated inside a booth and we preferred this to being at the bar. There were clear partitions separating us from other groups and that actually helped to make it easy to hear one another. Drinks wise - I essentially ordered an Old Fashioned and it was pretty good! Great whisky with an appropriate oval ice cube and glass to match. My friends also ordered some fruity drinks which looked great too. If you have time, I recommend coming earlier in the evening or starting here before your other plans. You'll probably have a much shorter wait. read more

Neat spot! The concept of this speakeasy is interesting. Like a true speakeasy, you enter through an unassuming door. The only thing that lets you know you're here is a tiny "AB" on the door. We stayed for a few hours and racked up quite the bill I think we did 4 or 5 rounds of drinks total, for 5 people this ended up being around $300 (a few people only did 2 rounds). I don't usually go to bars as I don't like most cocktails, but everything I ordered here was delicious! I gave our bartender really open ended prompts but he was able to craft something delicious every time. I was really excited to try this location as I have lived in Nashville for 5.5 years and was in New York for my birthday and had to try the other location. Complicated to go in? Yes, very much. Worth the wait? Oh yes, sooooo very much. Attaboy was a as odd and amazing at the same time, that it took me even a few day to process how everything went. Attaboy is that speakeasy that you won't ever will identify from outside, and even better, you don't have a menu you can check anywhere. First, you sign in for the queue, which basically is going into a waitlist after knocking the door. They are supposed to call you when is your turn, however, you still may not go in as they only can sit 20 people at a time. Just to give you an idea, my friend and I went into the waitlist at 9pm and could go in around 2am on a Tuesday! Was the wait time crazy? oh yea. However, when we received our first round of drinks... Wow, it was a piece of art. Here how it works: - Once you get seated, you will have the bartenders ask you what you are looking forward to drink, and in order to build it, they will ask you things like what alcohol you'd like, flavors and intensity (like dry, sweet, on the rocks, etc) - based on that, they will hand craft a drink for you, no menus are available, and be aware. no vodka. - Each drink is about $24, but if you compare it with any other place in the city, is not that bad. I've been to places not even as artsy as this one and ended up paying $18 for a regular drink. My first drink was whiskey based, but we ended up in our second round doing rum based as they have Diplomatico Rum. Kudos to our bartender Rogelio (Wohoo Venezuelan talent) Attaboy is suppose to be ranked #22 in the top 50 best bars in the world. Truly a great experience. We were squeezed five people to a table and asked what type of alcohol and flavors we liked. I chose gin, light and refreshing with egg white. The drink they brought out was frothy and delicious! My friends chose other alcohol bases, such as whiskey, tequila and rum. Their adjectives were "like an Old Fashioned," "fruity so I can't taste the alcohol," and "gingery". I sampled their drinks as well and all of them were incredibly tasty, complex, and hit just the right notes. One thing they don't carry is vodka. Hard to find venue more easily identified by looking for a small line of the faithful standing outside a nondescript door with a camera peering down from the top. This dimly lit small and narrow rectangular space feels like a submarine, a bunker and a diner all collided into what is the best, most intimate place to have a cocktail. No menus. If you're that one-trick pony who has a favorite obscure drink from Egypt before the time of the Pharoahs, they just might be able to make it. Seriously. They ain't playing. But if they didn't have the drink you want they definitely have something you'll drink. And you'll love it. Bee's Knees? Aviation from the time of Prohibition? But, do they hate the Russians for giving us the only Russian thing on the planet worth loving about the Russians? No Vodka. Nyet.
