Wow, I was fooled by the good reviews here. I called to schedule an estimate to replace our attic fan and the insulation in our attic. They scheduled me with an appointment quickly, but the technician was a flake. I was scheduled for an 8-10AM window, with a promise of a 30 min call ahead. I started to get nervous at 9:50 and called to check - Adam said he would check with the tech. I got a call back from the tech saying he was sorry but he was over an hour away still. He offered to reschedule for any window I would give him. I told him I could do 1:30 - 2 and he agreed and promised to call if there was any issue. Well, it is 2PM right now and I just called the guy again -- and he again said he was over an hour away!! Ugh!!! My whole day is shot. read more

I recently bought a house and would like to have the attics checked out. Looked up Yelp and found they had high ratings. Called them up and set up an appointment for inspection. Jonathan came today. He called in advance because he could arrive a bit earlier. He is very nice, and inspected our garage attic which has insulation but not enough per building code. He was very honest and told me there is no requirement for garage attic to have insulation. He also gave me some suggestions on how to get our crawl space sealed. In the end no job needs to be done. I called this place after seeing positive reviews on Yelp. Roy and his 2 men came and cleaned up my attic really well. They went about their work very professionally, cleaned out all the rodent poop, decontaminated the place, closed in holes that might let rats in and put in new R-38 insulation for the whole attic. The attic doesn't feel so scary any more :). They came with one giant hose that connected to a big powerful Vac and all the old insulation went straight from the attic through the hose into a really huge bag outside the house. I thought the whole house would get smelly after this cleanup from the years of poop and who-knows-what-else in my attic, but thankfully, it didn't! I managed to get a tiny bit of discount from them, but I still think they are a notch expensive in comparison to some other attic cleaning companies. Overall, the quality of work looked really good, so I think it was worth the extra money I doled out. They've also given me a year's guarantee on any kind of rodent problems in the attic, so I am quite happy with that. I am considering getting my existing ducts also replaced by them. At first we thought it was a DIY project: how bad could it be to shop vac out a stinky attic with some rat poop? We tried, and--after two hours of cleaning a four by eight area and disposing of one dead rat--we reconsidered. I called Attic Masters on a Friday, and by Wednesday at 5:30, our attic was clean and fresh as the great outdoors. I initially spoke with Adam (who is in LA), who was kind and clear about cost, options for insulation, and the schedule. The Bay Area crew who consisted of Ruben, Pasqual, and Pedro. They showed up on time, spoke with me briefly, and then went to work. They first covered everything in my garage with plastic (which is the best entry to my attic), donned their white suits and gas-mask-like contraptions, and swept and moved plywood for hours, finding three more dead rats and a bird. Then they vacuumed, ate lunch (which they had brought with them) and vacuumed some more. They filled and filled the vacuum bag, which was the size of a VW Bug, along with many bags of insulation. Then, after spraying some sort of disinfectant and plugging up rat holes, they invited me up. I couldn't go (I'm pregnant and didn't want to risk the ladder), so they took pictures. So clean! Another whole room to our house! After another few hours of laying the insulation, they were done. This was worth every cent of the 2.50 a square foot they charged. I live in a relatively old home in San Jose and have always had temperature issues with in the home. Kudos to Ruben Lopez and his team from Attic Masters for a job well done in late Sep 2015. After contacting two other providers in the area, one of which has questionable business tactics, I decided to go with Attic Masters because of Ruben's straight forward professionalism. He is soft spoken, but knows his stuff. We had old blow-in paper and fiberglass insulation that was barely R-19, so he suggested a removal and replacement. I'm glad I decided to have this done because there were remnants of roof rats from long ago. They sanitized the entire attic space after removing the old insulation and installed wire grating to make sure no other pests could ever return. They use R-38 Johns Manville batt insulation unfaced, not the current minimum of R-33. The team was late because their truck had a flat, but worked into the night to complete the job in one day. Needed attic work quotes. Was recommended by coworker. My husband called and was told did not service our city. I called and was told no appointments available for day we requested. Got a phone call they could make it but the times had conflicts with our other estimates that day. They called me back and was told 2-4 would be available. I accepted. Day before comes around and get a phone call confirming the 2-4. Get another phone message within a few minutes wanting to change to another time; the time I had already told them there was a conflict and we couldn't accommodate. Left them a message that I just want to cancel altogether. Another voice mail message to call them back but was only going to be there for another few minutes. He took a look at my attic -- there's some badly placed insulation, the rest are okay, he gave a very honest assessment, and was very patient in explaining everything. Things you find out AFTER you buy a house-- the whole house smelled old and dingy and gross-- turns out the whole attic was full of blown in insulation mixed with dead rats. We decided to go with attic masters due to our initial interaction with Jonathan. He seems honest and knowledgeable. Setting up a time for his team to come out to start the work was also easy as they were only two weeks out. We had also said that we wanted the attic cleanup and new insulation done in one day. He said it wouldn't be a problem finishing it in one day. Day of project: Old blown-in insulation was removed and new insulation material placed. However, during the project, one of his team member lost his footing and fell through, punching a big hole in the ceiling. Jonathan attempted to repair the hole but it didn't look like the way it was before the incident. The dry wall patch job was not well done. Jonathan had said he would return in a couple day to finish the repair. So much for finishing the job in one day. During the final walk through, we also noticed a crack in the ceiling in my daughter's room and in the hallway. Jonathan also repaired those areas. Now, the ceiling needs repainting and trying to match the existing color will be difficult since we don't remember the exact name or mixture or type of paint that was used in each room. We also had the duct cleaned. One of his team member discovered around 6 small and large holes in our duct underneath the house and repaired them. The duct cleaning and repairing process went well but the person who cleaned the duct walked all over the house with his shoe on. I guess it's my fault since I had forgotten to give him something to cover his shoe with. We had to mop the house after they were done. Overall, very pleasant crew to work with. Just wished one of his team member was more careful when walking in the attic, but we understand that accident do happens, especially when you're working in the attic. read more
