Updated: Their manager issued me a refund for the ignitor change and apologized for the inconvenience. Our furnace stopped working the first time we turned it on after the long summer. The technician came and said he could try replace the ignitor or the control board since he was not able to diagnose. Then he changed the ignitor and seems that everything works. But after he left, the furnace stopped working again. The technician came back another day and told us he had to change the control board. And the change for that is $800, though he can give us a discount of $250 since he already charged us $250 to change the ignitor before. We asked him to explain why it worked when he was here but failed after he left. He can not provide any explanation, all he can tell us is that everything looks good, the only thing he can do is to change the control board. Actually we don't want to trust him any more since his explanation is weak, and $800 is too high. Plus it seems that we wasted the $250 to change the ignitor since the ignitor is not the root cause. We finally choose another company to fix our furnace. Of course with lower price than $550. read more

I sent them a request for a quote online, but instead of giving me even a basic estimate, they insisted on coming to my house first. I found that really inconvenient and honestly a bit suspicious. What made it worse is that the technician never even showed up. No call, no update, nothing. I was left waiting without any idea of what was going on. Based on my experience, the communication and professionalism just weren't there. I didn't feel like they valued my time, so I won't be using their services. read more

I have "interviewed" four other companies for this job, with estimates as high as 4,000. When Ali from Freon Service -they were the fifth- came over, he diagnosed a faulty pressure switch, swapped with a new one and left the house after an hour. Since then, the system works. I am posting this two weeks after the repairs. Total bill, including the diagnostics, $300. Before Ali's visit, the furnace would stop working non-deterministically, usually when we needed it most, then it would start again in a few hours. That happened once or twice a day. For reference, other diagnostics were: * Inducer motor * Blower motor * System board * Condensate collector That shows you how much "science" goes into this trade. Or maybe it's simply "information asymmetry" at its best. Good thing the competition is also healthy. read more

I had old duct work (with asbestos tape), and wanted to get those replaced. Slava (from Freon) came out the same day to take a look, and gave me an estimate. We had to work with a different company for asbestos removal. Slava and his team were able to co-ordinate that ASAP. We also had a tricky situation where the old furnace had to be removed to get rid of old plenum (which was out of scope). Even though it turned out to be more expensive than the original plan, they were able to get me a new furnace, and their team (Damon, and Mike) was very professional, didn't take any short cuts, and I was impressed by their quality of work. Slava was also very understanding of my situation, and was instrumental in making sure I got the best value of money, and coordinating everything at lightning speed. read more

Replace my old gas furnace with a heat pump downstairs and installed a complete new heat pump system with ductwork in the attic upstairs. Also installed an attic ladder for easy access to the new heat pump. Our project team was Slava , John , Paul and Reef .They were really professional, and finished the job a day early. 2 year old A/C wasn't cooling. Called a DIFFERENT company and they sent their tech promptly. He figured out the issue and said a part was needed to be replaced. They'd have to order it and it cost over $1000-. I called the next day to speak to the tech and get more detail on why a fairly new A/C would need an expensive part this soon. Their rep said that the tech would call me back. I didn't hear from that tech and called FREON SERVICE for a second opinion. FREON came out and fixed the problem for $59- Not sure if the other company (with 4.8 stars on yelp) is incompetent or was trying to rip me off .... Freon did a wonderful Mitsubishi heating and cooling systems installation for my whole house a year ago. i am now having a problem contacting the company to come out and service the system as required by the warranty. Have contacted the company by phone and text to no avail for the last two and a half months. I can understand if they are busy but the silence is no excuse. If you're skimming reviews, Freon Service is a great residential heating contractor. Background--Last year (2023), I noticed that my central air conditioning system blew semi-cool air and ran most of the day. Then, the system just shut down. Not aware of Freon Service, I arranged for another AC repair service to see how to get my AC working again. The capacitor had gone bad in the almost two-decade-old outside condenser unit, and the technician was able to source a hard-to-find replacement. While the tech was replacing the capacitor, I mentioned that the air from our system wasn't that cool. He connected his equipment and indicated the system was down two or three pounds of Freon. While his AC service company no longer carried Freon, he recommended we try to find another AC repair company in San Jose that still carried Freon for repairs. He indicated it would cost $400-500 per pound. Being we were in September, we decided to wait until the summer of 2024 to do something about it. In late spring 2024, we began having pretty warm days. I found Freon Service on Yelp, liked the numerous positive reviews, and decided to call them to inquire about getting some Freon pumped into our system. They did have it, and they dispatched a tech the same day. The friendly Freon Service tech found that our Freon situation was much worse than just being down two to three pounds. It didn't have any Freon. If we had arranged for the system to be refilled last year, we likely would have wasted over $1,000. The Freon Service tech diagnosed that the leak originated at the evaporator coil in the attic. The contractor who initially installed the attic unit didn't get things quite right. The drainage system's level was off, causing water to pool next to the evaporator coil, which caused it to rust over time. That led to the Freon leak. The friendly Chief Comfort Advisor at Freon Service, Dennis, gave us a fair price. So, I decided to move forward. They even tossed in a cool new Nest thermostat for free. From the initial contact to diagnosis to repairs to wrapping things up, Freon Service did an excellent job with quality equipment at a fair price. And they were very careful to protect carpets and areas around attic access from getting dirty. They are now my go-to residential heating and cooling service. We could not have been more pleased with the professionalism that we experienced working with IRBIS Team. The process began with a site visit by Justin B who did an evaluation of both the existing system and the +/- of our units' current location. Within 24 hours Justin provided us with 4 detailed estimates. They ranged from a barebones replacement of our existing AC unit to a total HVAC upgrade. Justin also provided us with the information concerning rebates and tax credits available. Our choice included a rebate and tax credit. Prior to installation Santiago from IBRC's rebate Team reached out to confirm the process and timeline to secure the rebate. This provided confidence that the rebate process was in motion and would not result in a "Hanging Chad" issue, to be resolved later. The installation team arrived as scheduled. Alex, Ivan & Javier performed a site tour with me to explain the plan for the day and the extent of modifications to expect. Alex and his Team were at all times courteous, informative, and not only left the site clean, but cleaned as they went. Small touches, like wearing shoe slippers whenever entering the house is just another sign of respect for the customer's home At the end of the first day Alex provided a walkthrough of the work that had been completed and provided an update of what were the final steps. I called Freon service and spoke with Jensen who proposed the time for Andy to come and have an assessment. Price quoted was very fair and i agreed. He came by right on time with a communication before hand to let me know the ETA. The minute he went to the outdoor unit, he already kind of knew what's could potentially be wrong and quote me with another price that's was very fair as well. 15 min after he replaced the part and the unit is back to normal. Jensen, follow up a couple of days after to make sure that the service is good and nothing else is wrong with my experience. I think honesty and straight forward without the need to up sale any unnecessary stuff is key. I am quite sensitive with that and I did not nose any of that at all during the service period.
