Great for a fresh hot cup of quality coffee to start my clinical days at Cohen/LIJ. For lunch break the soups are serviceable. The past 4 visits, I have had The Good Egg Sandwich - Egg - Avocado - Cheese -Lettuces- and a lemon aioli on a nice crusty baguette for quick lunch. First time it wowed me how well composed and tasty it was. Sadly, it has been inconsistently made the past 3 times. Today a sloppy mess with more avocado and cheese on the wrapper than between the bread, tasty but not meeting expectations. read more

This was my first time visiting this location and it has been over a decade since I visited an Au Bon Pain. I actually signed up for their club years ago but never used it. I am not sure if they were only exclusive to hospitals but nowadays, it appears that is where these cafes are located. My mom was in the hospital for longer than expected so since we were spending a lot of time there, we were at the cafe everyday. I also signed up for the club again to get a free reusable cup. I was able to use it several times that week. There is definitely a nice variety of food and drinks here. There is a variety of coffee choices available. The coffee was always piping hot. I fell in love with their brownies and had a bunch of those throughout the week! My father and I stayed late one night so we went down to the cafe to get some food. I obviously picked up a brownie, as well as coffee, a soup, and an amazing strawberry banana smoothie. My father picked up a sandwich, which looked really good. The staff was always very nice and friendly. The store was very clean and tidy. There are food and beverage items you can order that they make there. There are also prepared food items in the refrigerated area. There are pastures and doughnuts. There are breakfast items in the mornings as well. I honestly have no complaints! read more

This location is convenient located in LIJ Kat's Woman's Hospital and food is served hot and you can also skip the line and order online. Which is what my wife and I did. My wife and I came here for a birthing class as we expecting a little one in the very near future. We ordered online and it told us that our food would be ready in 15 minutes, which felt kind of long since we were hungry. Other classmates that were in the same class as us didn't order online and went straight to Au Bon Pain and ordered in person. My online order was definitely placed before them, yet I received my order after them. Instead of a 15 minute wait for my food, it was more like 10 minutes from the time I ordered it. I ordered the angus steak sandwich and well, it was definite. ly not the best steak or sandwich I have ever eaten. The meat was soft and tasted a bit weird and artificial, because it was just too soft. The insides were a bit too soggy for my liking. Located on the lobby floor of Katz LIJ Hospital. This is the only eatery (that I know of) inside the main building of the hospital. I was here visiting for 3 days straight so I pretty much spent breakfast lunch and dinner here. Now for the reviewers complaining of the high prices, what did you expect? It's located inside a hospital. It's the same when you purchase food at the movies, sporting event, etc, you're paying double or triple the regular prices. For an overpriced place it wasn't that bad. The hot sandwiches were around $7-10, premade salads were $6-10 soups were $3-6 and pastries were $2.50-$4. Everything I ordered during the 3 days tasted ok for the most part. Cudo's to this place. I see all the negative reviews. however, Being able to get some decent vegetarian and vegan fair was a real blessing staying at the hospital after surgery. The soups were all quite delicious as well as the oatmeal and other hot cereals in the morning. Pastries and grilled cheese sandwiches were yum. It's not often that I am struck with impress at places but I wanted to go out of my way to make sure everyone gets credit for such a good job. read more

Very over priced! The only reasonably priced items are the sandwiches. The cooked food which is sold based on weight is very expensive. The soups are excellent though and always a good option that is definitely worth it and so are the pastries. I am very sad to see they no longer have the peach ice tea which was my favorite item here and the main reason I would go at times. read more

OK...so this ABP is inside of LIJ and of course, I live at LIJ for the most part. I have to say that this place really makes the day for me when I have a long shift. They have an awesome Thai peanut chicken salad, mouth watering, and good to the last bite. All the pastries are so enticing and every once in a blue moon, I will indulge myself, and everything I have tried thus far is par excellence. And not to mention the soups...TRES BIEN!! Food is overpriced and service is just alright. Expect super long lines during lunch time and dinner time. There is always plenty seating available so that's a plus. I only recommend eating here if you are stuck in the hospital and don't have a means of getting out. There are honestly much better options in the area. read more

Reason for 1 star: -the worker takes 3-4 orders at the same time, puts them in the oven, takes another 3-4 and preps them. Now the first round is burnt -even after burning a bunch of sandwich rounds, he forgot my sandwich. It's just eggs, cheese n bacon for the love of God. -finally I get to order a second time. Same thing. 2 eggs sandwich with bacon and cheese. 4 more sandwiches go to the over. Another round of more ppl ordering. -finally my burnt sandwich is ready. I'm so hungry, guess what. No bacon. Now I gotta wait for another round to come out the over so my bacon can be done. -final reason for 1 star. It serves its purpose for something different from the conventional cafeteria at work. The employees there are friendly and help each other if the ordering line gets long. I love ordering the Bacon Sausage Egg and Cheese on Everything bagel with Chipotle mayo and hot sauce. Service ordering a hot sandwich is so slow that I could have baked the bread and cures the meat in the same amount of time it takes for them to make a sandwich. Perhaps the best part of spending all day at LIJ. They have a delightful salad bar that has small trays that get refilled often, this equals fresher food and higher quality. Less worry about food out in the open for too long. At 55 cents per ounce it is reasonable if you don't pick high density items. There are sandwiches made to order and the most heavenly buttery pastries you could imagine. There is soup and an assortment of hot treats too. Fresh coffee or tea and low cal drink options. A very healthy stop if you choose wisely. read more

Zero stars. Don't bother with the Au Bon Pain at LIJ. I was at the hospital for an all day childbirth class. I had the Newport Turkey hot sandwich, listed as a seasonal special. It looked great in the menu photos and did not look very appetizing upon presentation. I ate it. It sat like a rock in my stomach for the remainder of the class and gave me terrible indigestion which resulted in illness at night. I cannot believe such foul food is served at a hospital. read more

For a hospital commissary this is a very good place. Reasonable prices, many many choices and decent food. Breakfast was good, soups were good and lunch good as well (but stay on top of the cook, they messed up our egg orders) Would like to see a better selection of drinks in the cooler. read more

this place is awesome. A very romantic atmosphere for first dates. The somalier is very knowledgable. During late hours, the singles scene isn't bad either. The music is very up to date. Happy hour is from 10-11 when stuff is 50% off. Parking is hard during the day but valet is available during those hours. The crowd tends to be mixed...some professionals linger here as well. Subpar would be a compliment. They claim to be open 24 hours, meanwhile they are almost out of all kinds of breads(so they can't make sandwiches) and soups. Very very limited choices. it's never going to be a good day if we gotta spend it in a hospital, but at least the coffee at this place is fresh and hot. The windows are beautiful at this location. During the winter time it's great to look at the christmas tree in the courtyard. The food is better than the cafeteria but far from fresh. The healthy options are limited to the salad bar which has a nice variety though items maybe ice cold or soggy. Everything tastes good to an extent but is just too commercial for me (i.e. salty, obviously previously frozen, etc). Good for convenience when visiting someone in the hospital or before an appointment. Probably not good for employees eating here every day. Staff is often very rude and have difficulty charging the appropriate amount, keep an eye on your items vs. your bill. read more

I work overnight & ABP always has a shortage on goods..... They do not have sweets stocked until 5am... The sweets that are sold from midnight are stale & are sitting there for hours....the staff that comes in between 9-5 are more pleasant than the overnight crew read more

The positives are the location in the hospital and the fact that you can get a decent meal that is not fast food at 3am. The issues start with the people and staff that work here. There have been times where I ordered food from here and it simply will take too long before returning to work. And i mean that even when there is no one in line in front of me For a hospital, I am willing to pay more than normal but more than normal + the fact that I need to wait too long to get my food + the fact that at night the lines are ridiculous because of constant register issues or being understaffed makes it NOT a quick meal. So if you have a while then you might be in luck. If you are looking for quality customer service and a quick meal then you are out of luck read more

I went to the ER of Long Island Jewish Hospital and visited Au Bon Pain in the very new lovely Women's Hospital section - Katz women;s hospital I was pleasantly surprised by this eating facility in the hospital. Very clean and welcoming. The ambiance was terrific. The salad was crisp, fresh and did not taste like chemical. The food, soup, bread and cakes were all delicious. I told a friend about this place, and we will be going to have a meal there together. If ever you are in the area, swing by LIJ, go the the women's hospital, ground floor and have a delightful experience. You will not be disappointed. I go here often since it is inside my building where I work. It is my go to place a lot of the times because of the convenience of just having to walk downstairs from my office. I've tried almost everything here and it really is hit or miss. I would steer clear of the wraps because anytime I get them the lettuce is soggy and it tastes kind of old. I love muselli (spelling?) and get that here often my only gripe with that it is often way too sweet. I wish they wouldn't add so much sugar. The salads are good I often get the South west chicken Salad and love it. The Thai Chicken is..how can I say? Really not good avoid that one if you can. If you make your own salad prepare to spend at least $10 or more. I've gotten a few ingredients to add to my own salad that I brought from home and wound up spending like $7. The plus side is if you get a soup or salad you get a free roll or bread-stick. I love the broccoli cheddar soup, macaroni and cheese and veggie soup. The desserts are delicious but I try to avoid and the other fattening stuff because lets be real I sit down all day at work and need to avoid getting the old 'secretarial spread'. :) The prices really need to come down because you shouldn't have to spend $10+ to get lunch. Just recently they started giving out coupons for when you return to get money off your next order, so that is a plus! They also have a frequent user card that you can have stamped at lunch and I think with 10 stamps you get a free sandwich.
