My son and I went to Texas Fried Chicken & Burgers on Hillside Ave after a festival. We wanted to dine in, but our food was packed to go. When we asked for a plate, the young lady at the counter mocked us, repeating "plate" in a sarcastic way. We ended up eating out of a chicken container. While we ate, she kept spraying cleaner near our table, and when I asked her to stop, she gave us dirty looks and acted rude. We were also short on biscuits and had to ask twice. The whole experience felt uncomfortable -- we were the only Black customers there, and it felt like we were being treated differently. I spoke to the manager, who apologized and said she was new and would be properly trained. Still, the experience left a bad taste. I don't think we'll be going back. read more

Food 3.5/5 Service 0/5 Ambiance N/A Chicken is pretty good. Tenders/wings/thighs/etc... would rate 4.5/5 for the regular and spicy Burger is questionable. Price isn't bad but lacks flavor and is dry. 1.5/5 Sides biscuits/mashed potatoes/fries/mac n cheese etc... at times they run out of biscuits and Mac n cheese. But they don't tell you until you're in the store... you should be informed via online when ordering. Happens often and I assume they just don't feel like making a new batch. Person at the register doesn't say a word and assumes head bobbing is sign language or something. I do plan on ordering here since it's convenient and food isn't so bad. read more

Good crispy chicken and you smell it when you enter. Ambiance not so nice but not dirty. Service is mehhh but I wasn't expecting gourmet service. The chicken is good if you eat it the first day, if you reheat it the next day the smell isn't as pleasant. read more

Decided to try their new hot chicken. The flavoring was strong with just the right amount of spice although a bit too salty. Some of the pieces were more like nuggets rather than tenders. The fries were super dry and tasted stale. Definitely was disappointed. When opening the box, it didn't seem appetizing. read more

Okay so they sold us moldy food lmao it was from the 3 piece combo food poisoning much. They don't like female customers idk why especially the women in the front counter that likes to help out the men before women. My advice? Don't order unless you want to end up hospitalized because if you're gonna charge for moldy food you have no business staying open. read more

Went to the newest Tex's on Union Turnpike and Springfield Blvd in Oakland Gardens. I ordered the family meal: 8 pieces of chicken. 4 biscuits and 2 sides (Cole slaw & mashed potatoes) for three adults. The chicken was very tasty and so was the Cole slaw. Mashed potatoes were a little lumpy. I didn't care for the biscuit, to me it tasted a bit doughy. Although this was a "family meal," the sides were very small. We each took a teaspoonful, so that we could all share. Also, we were short one biscuit. All in all it was okay. I'd give it 3 stars. read more

The deal of 4 for $4 is pretty good for a quick bite or small meal. It includes 3 pieces of chickens and 1 piece of biscuit. The chickens are freshly made for my order so they taste very good and juicy. The spicy one is a little salty to me though. The service is quick and the guy works so diligent to get the order ready. It is quite busy in Sunday afternoon so it took a while to get our order. They serve halal chicken and the store is located in the community of people consume halal food so maybe it explains the busyness. Overall, the experience is decent. read more

I was commuting home and I had this craving for Fried Chicken so I ordered from a spot closest to my home that had the least delivery time. I placed my order en route so when I arrived home the food would be there. I ordered the two piece Combo. The chicken hit the spot it was crispy and cheap, I chose Cole slaw so I can have my daily vegetable consumption and feel somewhat healthier. Then I had a bottle of ginger ale to wash it all down and to prevent additional bloating that may take place as a result of consumption. I ordered through UberEats and delivery was on point. THE SERVICE SUCKS.... I ordered chicken tenders and the slice is so tiny and it looks just like a regular nuggets. I complained and the employees just laughed at me and gave me the eye. Tried this place on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. I know it's specialty is chicken but I got the seafood meal, for only $6.50 (after tax) you get crab cakes, fish, coleslaw, crumbed prawns and fries. The mini crab cakes were delicious, the fries were nice and crunchy (well drained of oil and fresh), the coleslaw also had a good texture (fresh) and I was amply supplied with tartare sauce. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the pieces of fish, which was mostly batter and tasted like the generic assortment straight out of the frozen foods section at your local supermarket. Otherwise very happy with the value for money. They have a lot of great promotions on at the moment and a menu with great variety. This surprisingly spacious, there's a second area to the restaurant that is all seating, the restaurant has very well adhered to social distancing requirements and looks very clean. ** advice to those ordering off of uber eats, if you're in the area you are better off going in person. this is the worst Texs I never see in my life. This is the second time that I'm buying the food from this location when I eat the food with my my chest and my whole body is spinning. I don't know why my whole family the same thing and every five you have to go to the bathroom so from now on, we will never order from this location. They probably need the food inspector or inspection they need to do it cause the food quality and everything is very bad and I didn't go to work because of this this problem. I was quite impressed. I was expecting a KFC clone and this was so much better. I ordered spicy chicken and it was very spicy. The flavor permeated the chicken. It wasn't only in the crust. I got a wing, a thigh and a leg with a side of fries. The fries were nothing special but the chicken was juicy and as good as I've had anywhere. We arrived after 9:30 and the restaurant was full. It stayed fairly full The whole time we were there. I would say the majority was take out but the tables were full also. I will definitely come back. read more

My husband and I used to take a 1.5 subway ride from the city where we used to live to eat here. I love their bacon cheeseburger. My mouth is salivating as I write this review! I decided to try this place today. I was passing and figured why not, I rarely eat fried chicken but I love it! Sadly I have to say never again. I gave it two stars because the store was clean and the chicken had a good crunch. They have hot and regular. I got my husband the spicy/hot chicken. Oh boy that's hot and spicy! Even for him and he loves spicy hot food. I also feel the chicken is a low grade of chicken. I shop and cook for over 50 years and I do know the difference. I was not happy with that. The fries are crispy but eh, nothing special. I ate 3 and it was enough. The biscuit also nothing special, I make better chicken and biscuits. The biscuit was too dry and tough on the outside. A biscuit should be light and melt in your mouth when you eat them. Almost like they over worked the dough. I did not taste their burgers. Though I saw people eating them and they seemed happy with their purchase. Maybe I'm being too picky..? But if I'm going for those calories I want a great piece of chicken. Too bad Roy Rogers is gone, they can take a lesson from them or the other notable fried chicken restaurants. No salt, pepper or ketchup, sauce, napkins nothing put in the bag or offered. Came here early on a Friday as soon as the restaurant opened. Service was quick since I was the only customer there. Food was decent. I really did like the spice level in the chicken. I didn't care too much for the mayo, next time I'll ask to have that removed. The fries were pretty yummy as well. Can't really say much else since I only tried one menu item. Only complaint was that the restaurant was really cold inside. I would have stayed and ate, but couldn't get past the cold. read more

Came here early one morning around 12 am. I was surprised to see how late they are open which is definitely a good thing. The location is pretty nice and street parking isn't difficult to find. We ordered a family spicy chicken mean that came with 3 sides as well as spicy chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks. The 3 sides were mash potatoes, onion rings and macaroni and cheese. Let's start with the spicy chicken. It was really good! This is the first time I've been to a restaurant, ordered spicy chicken and actually ate chicken that was spicy. Certainly beats KFC and Popeyes! The sides on the other hand were bland and not good. They did not have any flavor. The chicken tenders were just as good as the chicken. I have children at home that enjoy eating Texas quite often. But lately this branch of Texas has been providing such awful quality food. The tenders that I pay $10 are the size of a chicken nugget and with more batter that gives it a "tender shape". Each purchase, their tenders get harder and more of something you would find at the bottom of the fryer. It's terrible how they give such terrible quality and quantity for the amount they charge. I am disappointed by such work ethic. read more

This place is a real treat on Hillside. Sitting on the corner of a block, it boasts freshly made halal chicken and southern cooking. The inside is clean and looks like a typical burger joint, and the food is delicious and fresh. I particularly appreciate the flavor and spice of the food-something that is always lacking in most American fast food places and also, the number one complaint of brown families such as my own. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and a side of onion rings. The onion rings were the ground up kind rather than the fresh kind, but they were fine. Fries were shoestring and were great to munch on. The sandwich was made of spicy fried chicken on a brioche bun and was crispy and packed with spice. Everything tasted fresh and everything was served promptly. Would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for something with flavor but would like to skip the typical McDs or Popeyes's. read more

DONT ORDER ONLINE! The food was pretty good for a local chicken spot. The spicy chicken is actually....spicy! The fries were good too as all the food seemed freshly prepared. The only negative is that when ordering through GrubHub, I paid $7.29 for 2 pieces of chicken, and an extra $2.79 for fries. When I get to the store, they have a 2 piece combo with fries included AND a drink for only $6.99. when I asked the cashier why I paid more online he only shrugged his shoulders. I called GrubHub and they're refunding me the difference. Still, very annoying to see a price difference like that. If you're ordering through GrubHub please realize they're charging you more money. Pretty much everything I saw in the restaurant was cheaper than through GrubHub. read more

Looks it's fast food so I'm not giving them 5 stars. But they definitely earned 4. The chicken is super crispy and juicy and delicious. Mom and I tried a number 12, splitting it half regular and half spicy. 6 pieces total. Whoooo the spicy sure has a kick. I tasted it and at first thought it was mild but I was very much mistaken. Delicious but I'll stick to the regular. We both really enjoyed the chicken. And it was piping hot and stayed hot to the last bite!! My daughter ate the 2 sides we got with the meal. Mac and cheese was pretty good. The fries were ok. A little boring to be honest. They have a soda tower for free refills. That's nice but typical today for fast food places. But the crazy thing is this place is packed!! We got here at 9:15 at night. Got on line with 6 people ahead of me. And the line has stayed strong. It's 10 now and the place is still popping. To start I went here last week with a friend and went smooth sailing. Paid with card (has no chip, important to note for later) and got food within 15 or so minutes. Fast forward to today I go with a different friend and they allegedly can't accept my card anymore because "chip only" after getting a "new system" which looks exactly the same as the system there last week. Then took almost 30 minutes to get our food which is absolutely ridiculous if you ask me since we ordered when it was empty. Food is great but my god the service is absolute shit at this location so I cant bother to give more than one star. read more

Decent food. I read some reviews comparing this place to a Crown Fried Chicken spot. I'm no chicken connoisseur, but I enjoy Popeye wings and KFC sides. So I was in the Bellerose area and figured that I should try Texas Chicken & Burgers. It was on a Saturday afternoon and the place was pretty empty. It was tough to find parking on the main street, so I had to park in front of someone's house. The owner was looking at me as if I was going to leave my jeep in front of his house all weekend. I wasn't planning on experiencing euphoria eating fried chicken and staying in the restaurant until Monday. Jeez...some people just don't like strangers parking in front of their house! I will say that this place was clean inside. I wasn't sure if I wanted some wings & biscuits or go for burger-n-fries. Decisions...decisions..decisions. I went for the Bacon cheeseburger combo with fries and a can of soda. I asked for a wing on the side to try. The burger was "ok". The fries and wing weren't that flavorful. Hey at least I gave this place a shot...not sure if and when I'll be back. People can be "cray cray"..so this is why when I got back to my jeep..I checked my tires to make sure they weren't deflated and checked for key sratches. read more

It's just bad fast food. The bread was hard, obviously out of the fridge. The lettuce as you can see was wilted on the ends and was black. I can't believe he served it like this. The chicken is spicy even if you don't ask for it. And the mayonnaise was slapped on sloppy. read more

This "halal" place is not exactly halal spicy cuisine that you may have come to know. I ordered combo "spicy" beef burger, comes with small fries, a refill drink, cup slightly smaller than you get at BK. I was looking forward to spicy part with some nice ethnic taste to it. Well, it is simply a mass produced and processed beef partty with nothing in it, no taste, just as good as chewing plastic patties at McDs. The spicy part was interesting. All they do is just to put a dab of commercial hot sauce with heavy vinegar taste. The sauce they used tasted awfully similar to a large size hot sauce bottle I purchased for $1 at Dollar Tree. The patty was decent size, hardly any salad or condiments in it and bun was super soft spongy, not so good. French fries were ok, nice temperature and texture. Drinks were cold enough without any ice. I noticed that beef patty was just bland and also it was red and raw inside it. Also, the extremely luminous white tube light is so annoying. Better off with soft red light for better ambiance. I paid a whopping $8.xx with tax. I can assure you that BG deal with two hamburgers-sum of which is larger than their burgers, French fries and a decent size drink/refill for $3.80 is much better. BG burgers have salad in it in some good quantity and taste for most part better than McDs and theirs. All in all, they need to change the menu to include only ethnic spicy made food that gives some specialty feelings. Its price more than twice of that of BG just because it is "halal" is not worth at all. read more

The food is best but I only minus one star because I want to inform management that I m regular customer n all staff professional and food good but since my last few visits I observe that in this serious covid time there it is not that precautions . Two times I notice guys standing near counter don't wear mask even in those both time recently two days back too they r allowed in without mask plus go sipping near food n sitting on counter. This week camera should be checked. It's really dangerous I hv decided not to buy any thing that day I purchase two fish sandwich n mash potato bought home but didn't eat. Because guy working in front was also not covering his nose with mask even he was direct in public dealing. Pls cover plastic near counter n don't allow any one to come in without mask. It's only precautionary suggestion. read more

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: I have to give it 3 stars, here's why, the chicken had a nice crust, pieces were juicy, but I regretfully chose the spicy thinking just a little kick--boy was I wrong. OMG, it was HOT AS HELL, this is like 10x heat of Popeyes spicy (if not more). If you don't like eating super spicy food, or can't handle it get the regular. When I get another chicken craving in a few months I'll try the regular flavor, till then three starts causing me pain and discomfort. Time to pop a Tums. read more

The place is right on the corner so it is bright and visible at all times . It is open late and open early . I miss the grand opening deal where they were offering two hamburgers for 4.99 . There is also a new limited time menu item, the Fajita Chicken sandwich and it was probably the best thing on the menu. WC's chicken sandwich usually is one of their rings on a bun, but this is way better. It is a fried white meat fillet topped with jalapeno cheese and it tastes really good.
