The ambiance was perfect: I instantly loved the restaurant upon entering. I wish we could say the same about the rest of the evening. The cocktails all had a floral taste to them (even the whiskey and coke); it was very off putting for the men. And a 5oz pour of cider was $11, which is unheard of. My husband & I shared the chicken & dumplings: IT WAS AMAZING. Only wish would be that it had more chicken. Our table also had the NY strip & the snapper, both of which had little taste. So the food was pretty good. But the Wine Pairing is them basically swindling you right in front of your face. They have a $15 or $25 per glass per person pairing that they say is tailored to the specific items you order off the menu. The "Elevated Pairing" is $25 a glass (so think $100 per dinner if you get 4 pairings), so what the heck, we went with that. The second pour was flacid, lifeless. So with the aid of Google, we find out it is a $32 retail bottle (google it yourself, COS Pithos Blanco, 2020), and their in-house wine menu iPad lists the exact same bottle for $72. So we just paid $50 for 2 tiny pours when we could have bought the bottle for $72.......... And better yet, they served the same exact bottle to the other tables so clearly there was no attempt at personalization, and we suspect we would have gotten the same pour for the $15 level. The "wine guy" and the server sold the "Elevated Wine" pairing as something that is harder to find, or something they don't get very often. Note that we did not see the Wine Director on-site today. We did opt out of the rest of the pairing - they do have a big wine list. So just order your own. Worst. Wine. Pairing. Ever (cue Simpson Comic Book Guy voice). The wine pairing was a disservice to the quality of the food and the imagination in the cool menu. Oh well. Go to Folk instead, it is 400 feet up the road. read more

Service was great, Ko was patient and accommodating. Hostess was friendly. Menu sounds heavy but some dishes are small while some are larger. We went for brunch and had these shared plates: cornbread - yep, it was cornbread, served in cast iron skillet but not hot, butter it was served with was delicious but hard as a rock since it had obviously been portioned and in fridge. Peach cobbler - wish this on the dessert menu instead of shared plates, it was good. Served hot. Cream with it was delicious. Relish tray - had the pimento cheese that I was most excited to try, but like the butter, it was hard as a rock like it had been portioned and stored in chiller. Croissant- excellent. Entrees: Omelet soufflés- I was so excited about this one but it was served lukewarm. Taste was phenomenal but temperature of frothy egg liquid was gross. Endive with it was pretty good. Breakfast platter - hash browns good, sausage good, apples sour as heck, scrambled eggs as silky smooth as you could want, tomato gravy tasted a lot like pappa Al pomodoro; except eggs, everything else served warm not hot Crab & Grits - divine, served hot, but small portion of all parts but grits The interior is beautiful and rustic, the music was horrible. We really enjoyed our meal here but we weren't overwhelmed for the price point. We were the first table of the day and got food super fast, so I doubt they started the soufflé or cornbread or hash browns when ordered. I would have given 5 stars if the temperatures were warmer because even with that, you could tell it was created with quality ingredients. A fun experience with some friends where we tried some unique flavors. As a vegetarian sometimes eating fish, I appreciated the attention to detail and reviewing the menu with us to go over what changes would need to be made. I was a little worried about the menu because it wasn't posted online before, so I didn't know what I would and wouldn't be able to eat. The grits were phenomenal as was the bread and dessert. The menu had just changed from a study of apples to sweet potatoes, and it was all really nice! I'm giving a 4/5 for two reasons really.... 1- I did not like the main. The two options were a beef or fish. I do eat fish, but the salmon was a little rare for my taste, pregnant or not. I usually prefer to get vegetarian tasting menus, so a veggie option would be more inclusive. 2- the mocktails weren't great. The typical audience for a mocktail might be someone who is pregnant, but there were some ingredients in them that aren't pregnancy friendly which was limiting. Overall it was a neat experience and I'd like to go back during spring or summer to get some fresh fruits for the study hopefully! read more

We enjoyed our brunch at Audrey's! I am not a buffet person so I love finding a restaurant that serves brunch and has some unique things on the menu. We began with the Whipped Noble Springs Goat Cheese - a wonderful spread for the delicious pullapart bread that accompanies it. The Goat cheese is topped with bee pollen and apple honey - a delicious start to the meal. The Cast Iron Omelette is fluffy and perfectly cooked and flavorful. The Smoked Short Rib is tender and topped with a delicious charon sauce - a great accompaniment for the short rib. It is served with sassafras potatoes - well seasoned and not too mushy. Pumpkin Spice Sticky Bread was a great ending to a delicious meal. One disappointment - the Bloody Mary was surprisingly bland. It uses pepper-infused vinegar so I was expected a great spicy Bloody Mary. It did not live up to the billing. But the food more than compensated for that slight disappointment. read more

The best part of our dining experience at Audrey's was the Banana Cheesecake we got at Cheesecake Factory afterward. After the first hour we were finally served a cocktail and two buns. We ordered four to five dishes and had to return the last one (Lion's Mane Mushroom) because it was just too burned and unpleasant to eat. I couldn't choke any more down. Overall took 2.5+ hours to get a few small plates. Our server was inattentive and provided little guidance when ordering. Struggled to flag her down and get attention. After we paid our bill the manager asked us about our experience but did not seem interested in learning more about what made our experience poor. "Hopefully you had some good bites" were her words. At least the food critic/writer/blogger that was there seemed to be served well. My wife and I have toddlers and seldom get a date. We expected a lot more and disappointed this was where we spent our anniversary. Thanks Cheesecake Factory bartender for being consistent and reliable. You saved the day! read more

Twist and Trout This restaurant has been on my list so I was really looking forward to it. I had a guest stay at my Airbnb: https://airbnb.com/h/youneedtocalmdown that had a meeting with Sean Brock to sell his Well Being drinks. He was a really cool guy and he reminded me that this restaurant was at the top of my list for special occasions. The ambiance was fantastic from the start. I loved that he had piped in a fragrance at the entry. I told my husband that it smelled like a man I wanted to date and asked him to capture it in the air and rub it on his neck. There were also cricket sounds to set the mood. I was ready for the elevated country scene around the corner to seating. I was excited to see the kitchen featured in the room and the green velvet booth seating along the wall. Above were dried summer flowers and on the walls colorful art. I miss the Green Pheasant (a favorite restaurant of mine downtown that disappointingly closed) that had fabulous seating, ambiance and food so I was very happy to be seated at the green velvet booth! I like sitting snuggled up to my husband. Although large enough for several people I tried to ignore and get through the fact that we weren't hidden from other people... My favorite seating is a booth tucked away from an open cafeteria style space. A screen between little nooks of seating is also what I miss about the Green Pheasant. Anyway I was at the Audrey. After the 5 star scene experience we were excited for the taste experience. We ordered the Corn bread, Alabama Oysters, Apples, and Trout. The famous heirloom Jimmy Red Corn Bread was a huge disappointment. Although we respected and enjoyed the story about the corn bread It smelled like a man I didn't want to date. A very off putting DOG FOOD AROMA. Like driving by the Mars Pet Care Factory. I love yellow or blue sweetened corn bread with real corn pieces but couldn't stomach slathering on 3 tablespoons of butter to cover the HORRIBLE SMELL and to make it taste good. So I guess I'd rather "see it" buried in my cornbread instead of on top of it. Still it shouldn't take that much sweetened lard to make a dog food smell taste good. We did take it home to our cute puppy and she loved it with some veggie broth. I suggest serving the cornbread with some substantial creative sides that tell the story of his grandmother's southern cooking. I did find that (pinky up) sipping on the SQUASH MOCK-TAIL did rinse away the cornbread nicely. (or as my fourth cousin twice or is that three times now removed (because he is Appalachian) would say -Squashed it! - haha) Ok so he is my first cousin. Anywho, this mock-tail was so good I had two over the course of dinner. Next, the oysters. They were great but they are better at the back porch in Destin, Florida with ocean breezes and lots of sliders. We enjoyed the apples which were very sweet and balanced with endives and other greens. After the appetizers we were looking forward to our main course which was trout. It was absolutely disgusting. I think while dreaming about his days in Appalachia, he pulled a half dead fish from under a rock in Richland Creek. LIKE A CHILD he created a story, called it trout, sprinkled some cheap bright orange sushi roe on top with some cheap chives to make it a little fancy. Then he put it on top of a Honey Boo Boo type of sauce which appeared and tasted to be Campbells tomato soup and goat cheese. Honey Boo Boo is a poor child star made famous by television. To her family, Ragu Spaghetti Sauce is fancy so their Appalachian go to is Butter and Ketchup. THANKFULLY, the attentive and wonderful staff whisked the stinky fish called trout (that we took one tiny bite of) away and off from our table. We enjoyed the story and the taste of the barbecued mushroom. In fact, I've never had such a carefully prepared and delicious version. We highly recommend it as a substitute for steak and other restaurants to take vegetarian options this seriously. It's one of those dishes that seem impossible to create at home. For my Birthday we had the beautiful and satisfying bergamot caramel custard. It was topped with cardamon and two small pink flower petals. If only we had a jar of this sauce for the cornbread! We were also surprised and happy to see them deliver us a tiny scoop of delicious birthday cake ice cream with one candle. One sprinkle per nanoparticle in the substance. It was more sprinkles than I've ever had in my life. The ambiance, the storybook style of the menu and the chef are appreciated. There is a little wooden enclosed tiny picture and caption book on the table which tells a story of each menu item. We found it to be very charming and look forward to dining at June. Even with the "booth" being exposed to and open to evil eyes trying to ruin our experience we had a pretty good time. read more

We arrived and we're quickly seated. The servers and staff were all friendly and helpful. They did mistakenly add two dishes to our tab but were nice and apologetic when it was pointed out. The food... was awful. The salt rolls were good. The seven baby carrots were also good. Every other dish was underwhelming. Excuse me, that's not fair to an underwhelming dish. These were bad. Maybe my palette wasn't ready for the seemingly bland dishes, but as I left the restaurant all I could think of was where I could get some food to eat because I was hungry and annoyed I just spent 500 bones on bad food. My wife likes chicken dumplings and she said those were pretty good... so that was a win. Maybe this should be two stars, but I didn't taste a bit of food that was worth five bucks, let alone 500. read more

I'm a food snob (no question about it) and am usually impressed by award-winning chefs and their restaurants. Otherwise, what's the point of prestigious awards? After two visits, I'm deeply disappointed with Audrey. Awards aside, the price points are absurd across-the-board. Ingredients are pricey, but that goes for the competition, too, and most are presenting more reasonable charges and a better dining experience. Though the ambience and decor are charming, I have to wonder that a key cost factor may be the property. The staff have been well above many of Nash Angeles' other top tier eateries. The cocktail list is limited, but interesting. But, patrons visit for the food.  I had hoped the card would have been updated for the spring season, but...no, not yet (and that's just a guess that it will change.) You have some flexibility with the small plates, but only half of the offerings are worth my money. Of entrées, there are only three options, and none of them are worth recommending. None. That's astounding, if not shocking. Recommended from the current (winter?) menu are: the cornbread (its not a true corn pone and adding the butter will sweeten it,) the grits (not joking...it's possibly the best item on the menu,) and the apples (especially with the foie gras.) On the edge are the Cristobel Lettuce (a simple, yet polarizing love/hate of a semi-wilted salad) and the edgy lion's mane mushrooms (but, only if you enjoy firm, meaty mushrooms.) The NY strip steak, beyond the signature firmness of that cut, has proven consistently tough and too often gristley. That seems a common complaint by several reviewers. You're simply not getting the experience you're paying for. Everyone's tastes vary, and some are going to like it, but the fish... I just had to quit and decide never to order it again. I was certain that the chicken and dumplings would save the day as a comfort food, but no... any comfort was lost, buried deep beneath the overuse of salt and tarragon. The place certainly has some fans, but Audrey's bumpy path to a fine dining experience is strewn with too much wreckage to be worth the trip. read more

First off the restaurant is beautiful! The candles were a great touch and we loved all the hanging plants and decor. We loved the open kitchen as my fiancé is a chef and he really enjoyed watching the action. The food was very good, we had the bread, the ham and the chicken and dumplings. Everything tasted amazing and with only these 3 dishes we were full! One of the best parts of our experience here tho was our server Emily. She was absolutely amazing, very knowledgeable, attentive and told us personal connections to the food, how they grew ingredients and all kinds of interesting facts. Ambience 5/5: brutalistic unfinished concrete softened by dried flowers, in an open space and open kitchen in the center. Service 2/5: we arrived 15 min early for our 9:15p reservation and we're not seated until nearly 10p. Not only that but the hostess did not offer us to sit at the bar until after a half hour of waiting, and we had just sat down, ordered our drinks at the bar, when we were interrupted and told our table was ready. So we did not even start ordering until 10p. The restaurant closed at 11:30p and thus we felt already rushed even though we arrived on time. What's the point of a reservation if you're going to have to wait nearly an hour to be seated?? Food 4/5: I got the nonalcoholic mushroom drink which no one should ever get. I was told it tastes like an earthy green tea but it tastes like the leftover water you get from washing mushrooms heated to lukewarm temperature. I love earthy flavors but this was not edible. The oysters were delicious, the grits were very creamy and I could have done without the yolk center. The lion's mane mushroom was really good, I can't believe the texture came from mushroom and not chicken. The beets were delicious as well and so were the potatoes. My partner got the chicken and dumplings which I'm glad I didn't order bc it was just a bowl of huge balls of flour with scant strips of chicken stuck to the sides. The trout was pretty good but nothing special. The desserts looked amazing but unfortunately we were seated so late that they had run out by the time we were ready to order. They served us little balls of pecan ice cream though which I asked for and they were very good. All in all, a medium experience for ~$300. read more

I was in Nashville for the weekend and came here night I landed. Walked in pretty close to closing but they were gracious enough to sit me. I'm pretty sure if was Chef Sean Brock who i talked to. Easy 5 star review since everything about the experience visiting this restaurant was absolutely fantastic. First off, the venue is beautiful. The exterior is great, but the interior quickly surpassed all expectations I had. While waiting for my buddy, I spent some time walking around the waiting/lounge areas to check out some of the art hanging on the walls and from the ceiling, which was just a very pleasant experience. Once we were seated, the beautiful dining room felt very cozy; it was incredibly easy to relax and properly appreciate the food and company. The food is fantastic and I really enjoyed every course, however, there were certain that were just spectacular. I was telling my friend throughout the meal that I could eat a large bowl of the grits every day for weeks and not get tired of them. As I write this review, I still wish I could do that. Finally, the service was excellent. Everyone was incredibly attentive and they were a huge part to the overall dining experience. Jay, the person who supported us, was awesome. Audrey is an absolute treasure of fine dining southern style. This was a treat to myself for Christmas Eve and it did not disappoint. I had the Appalachian salt risen bread served with a compound butter with jam in the center, the BBQ ions mane mushroom, the grilled oysters, Trout and the best for last the Jimmy Red Grits with Hybrid Kaluga Caviar. The caviar is optional, however, with the caviar this is perfection in a bowl. I have never had such a big smile on my face after eating a dish. Their are so many textures to play with, the creaminess of the grits, the pop of the caviar, and the burst of flavor you get from the bay Laurel surrounding the dish. I will definitely be back again. Audrey was pretty spectacular. I had eaten at Husk years ago, when Chef Brock was there, and had high expectations. On all but one small component of one dish the restaurant met or exceeded my expectations. Due to the difference in time zones and the way my calendar synced, we arrived an hour early for our reservation. We went to the upstairs Japanese-inspired Yama Bar. It was a treat. The cocktails were all based on seasonal produce, and there were non-alcoholic substitutes that actually worked for the non-drinker in our group. The hand-rolls were a surprise and incredibly interesting (and I am a seasoned hand-roll eater these days). In the main dining room almost all the dishes were spectacular. The highlights, for us, were the cold corn soup, the Carolina ice cream (a savory rice dish), and the grits. But other bites were also on point. The only miss, for us, was a shrimp bite. While it was paired with interesting flavors, the shrimp was not done to our preferred texture and was overly assertive in its seafood flavor. Even this slight miss did not distract from a dining experience that ranks highly on my list of favorites ever. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and might even encourage people to travel just to try it. (Though, for a destination restaurant, if timing had allowed, we would probably have tried the 22 course tasting upstairs at June.) read more

Went for brunch after a good dinner experience. Service was incredibly slow. Tons of full tables waiting on food. Had to ask several times for refills of coffee and such. Finally got food. One appetizer was brought with the entrees, and everyone's entree was cold. Cold eggs, bacon, prime rib, cornbread. Too expensive to be providing that kind of service for a brunch reservation. Ambiance was a bit young for the crowd given the club like music played loud over the speakers. All and all, I'd take my money somewhere more low key to get the same meal in a fun atmosphere for half the price or less and have it be hot and fresh. Food tastes good just wasn't hot. Dinner was a complete disappointment. We dined here back in June and had a lovely experience, last night left me very dissatisfied. Overall, the food was over salted. I have a heavy seasoning hand, so I don't mind salty, multiple dishes were inedible. Cornbread with lardo was seasoned so heavily, it tasted of a mouthful of ocean water. We ordered the chicken and dumplings, it was again so salty that we sent it back to the kitchen. Kitchen tasted it and agreed that it was over salted. We also ordered 2 ribeyes for the table, cooked medium. They were both cooked very rare. We sent 1 back to be recooked. 2nd steak was a little more cooked, but upon pushing the steak around plate, you could see certain pieces were sliced and cooked on the underside, but rare in the top. The inconsistency of 1 whole steak sliced into pieces was really strange. When the other steak was refired and came back to the table, it was still a medium rare when we ordered medium. The server basically delivered the steak and steered clear of the table, not checking if it was cooked to our liking. The part that probably was the biggest miss of the night is that Chef Brock was in the kitchen and sitting 2 tables down from us with friends and never stopped by to check on us or acknowledge that there were some misses throughout the evening. read more

Audrey was quite the experience from the moment you walk in. The restaurant is thoughtfully designed down to the detail of it smelling like a wood fire stove the second you walk in. The menu is simple and well executed. The chilled corn soup provided as a small bite to start with is amazing! The venison was super tender and the bear beef for dinner was full of flavor and so tender! We really appreciated the time the staff spent to explain each dish and how it was prepared, giving the full culinary experience you would expect at a high end restaurant. Now the only disappointing part was the wine at the end of the meal. We opted for the wine pairing with each course which was very nice and really appreciated the variety of regions the wines were curated from across the globe. The last dish came with a port type of wine and my husband noticed a chunk of something in the wine. At first I thought it could have been sediment, but upon further inspection it had wings- it was a fly. Not a fly that just flew in there and was floating on the surface, it was fully submerged, floating more towards bottom of the wine. We called over the Sommelier to inform him and he brought over a new glass immediately and poured a fresh glass of the wine. When I asked him if it was the same bottle he said it was and there was no way the fly came from that bottle. I'm sorry don't insult our intelligence- we would have noticed a fly come into the wine glass in the 4 minutes the wine was in front of us and by the way the fly would not even be dead that quickly if it just flew in. I expected better from a Som than to pour wine from the same bottle a dead fly was in- disgusting. So instead of the 4 wine pairings we paid for we only got 3 which is disappointing considering the wine pairing is $60 per person. read more

What an experience. YAMA by Sean Brock was incredible in every way, with everything from the food to the drinks. Sean flies this fish in from Tokyo, and the freshness of the fish cannot be fully described. Every roll we had was bursting with flavor, while paying attention to the ingredients themselves by not doing too much with them. Sean came over and was so nice, as he talked to us about the fish and what makes it so good. The drink menu was the best/most unique thing I had ever seen, as the menu was a basket of certain fruit. They pick the freshest fruit that week, and then they make a drink with only three ingredients. We watched them juice each fruit and make the drinks right in front of us. Were very excited to eat at Audrey and it completely exceeded our expectation! The restaurant has a wonderful decor, and beautiful layout. Iur table was focused toward the open kitchen, which was very fun. Our waiter, Alex, was outstanding, and took excellent care of us. The cocktails were delicious. We ordered The Feast, and had a continuous stream of absolutely flavorful dishes. We were able to take our time on each course, and were never rushed to finish anything. It was evident everything from presentation, dishes, the stories that were shared behind every dish, the wine list, to decor were all meticulously and thoughtfully crafted. We came in first week of December and every dish was delicious and super impressive. Dietary restrictions were pescatarian and vegan and they were very accommodating. My husband's vegan version was just as delicious. They also offered non alcoholic options such as non alcoholic wine and drinks that were very yummy. Courses were timed well and we left satisfied and full. Everything was delicious and will definitely be coming back. I was lucky enough to snag a reservation at Audrey the first weekend they were open for normal service and was anxiously awaiting the experience. Funny story.... My bf and I always say we're going to get to a restaurant early to get a drink at the bar but are always running late. I secured a 5:00 reservation and shockingly we arrived at the restaurant at 4:30 only to find out they don't open until 5:00. That's the way it goes sometimes. We were the first people in the door and absolutely loved the decor. It's warm but very Appalachian with Chef Sean Brock's personal collection of paintings on the wall. The staff was extremely friendly and we started off our meal with a cocktail and I sampled The Spicebush. It was nice but a tad sweet for my taste. We opted for the wine pairing and only had to choose our entrees which were the cobia (fish) and ribeye. The rest of the meal is a tasting menu with no choices. First up was a grazing board with ham, radish, caviar and chicken feet and truffle/sun chokes. The caviar and chicken feet was amazing and ground down so you didn't get any bad visuals. It was a unique texture and delicious. We had a sparkling wine pairing that was natural with zero sugar and really really good. Next up was the Appalachian grits which was a highlight for sure. It was rich but we'll balanced and a lovely second course with some mushrooms added in as a bonus. The killed lettuce with bread and butter was another highlight and the butter was infused with a smooth butternut squash purée. YUM. Our entrees were next and while I'm typically a fish lover and would choose it over beef every time; the ribeye was phenomenal and I wished I had ordered it! The study of Tennessee apples was our dessert course, and I'll be honest that I'm not a huge apple dessert fan but this may have just changed my mind! The first Apple study was pretzel that was honestly a bit overhyped for what it was, but the second course and last course was so good. It was kinda like pop rocks meets dry ice and was unique and delicious. The last dessert had a shortbread cookie with an apple filling and was so good. Overall the meal was fantastic and I'm so excited to have Audrey in Nashville. From the wine pairing, to the service to the incredible food, you can't go wrong with a visit! read more

The service is attentive. It's moderate volume. Fun that you get to watch the kitchen do their thing! I loved the elevated pairing with the champagne. Having read all the reviews here I feel obligated to submit mine. My birthday dinner at Audrey was sublime. The service was hyper attentive, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Audrey manages to be fine dining yet homey, not pretentious or intimidating. Other reviews complained about portions and course staggering; neither was an issue for us. The "snacks " came out promptly with the drink pairing (do it!). My trout was easily 4 ounces as was husband's sirloin. Best of all was the birthday ice cream, complete with candle. Definitely an expensive meal, but the love and craft put into every detail made for a memorable experience. read more
