This is, absolutely, a hidden gem! Right on the beach, visited my daughter at URI and we stopped in. Incredible seafood! Priced very reasonably!! Summertime the place must be swamped like mad. My mom and I have been trying to eat at this place for years, but we rarely come in the summer and always miss out. Finally made it! The chowder and clam cakes were recommended, and omg were they good- and filling! Walking past another table that ordered before us, I thought the clam cakes were giant hunks of fried chicken, but no. Giant hunks of fried dough with clams mixed in. Absolutely delicious when dunked in the chowder. The restaurant itself is adorable, and I imagine looks refreshingly the same as it has for years. My wife and I se used to try Aunt Carrie's based on a recommendation from a local resident who we spoke with while at dinner. The service was top notch and the Point Judith Lobsters from Galilee Narragansett used to make the hit Ct style Lobster Rolls were delicious succulent and very tasty. Let's do something different and start with dessert. In short, hats' off to the baker. We ordered blueberry pie with a scoop of chocolate ice cream, and asked for the pie to be served warm. It was, and the pie was superb. I'm guessing that the pie was made with real Maine wild blueberries, as these were the small berries that we've only been able to get from Wyman's in Maine. While tiny (as compared to our local hand-picked blueberries here in Rhode Island), they are packed with flavor, not terribly sweet, and as such are always terrific when baked in a pie. Speaking of baking, the pie crust was flaky and delicious and almost worth just ordering the pie just to enjoy the crust. The pies are freshly baked on site at Aunt Carrie's. As far as our lunch was concerned, we ordered Fish and Chips and a Lobster Sandwich. The fish was cooked with a very light coating, not the more traditional heavy batter, and was done perfectly. The fries that accompanied the fish were basic, which was fine as we don't go to Aunt Carrie's for the fries. The Lobster Sandwich was especially good, with loads of lobster meat chunks and shreds, and served hot (my choice) on freshly baked bread. The bread was exceptional in its own right, almost worth ordering the sandwich just for the bread. Our server, Abby, was on top of her game and seemed to be always ready for us whenever we needed anything. Business was brisk, all of the wait staff appeared to be fully tasked. As a seashore restaurant in a gorgeous Rhode Island summer, the atmosphere was perfect, with the windows open and a lovely ocean breeze over our table. Just perfect. read more

I've been coming to Aunt Carrie's in Narragansett for years, but after my most recent visit, I won't be back anytime soon. We were "served" (if you can even call it that) by a tall, lanky, pale waiter whose name started with an A -- and unfortunately, that's all I caught before I was too irritated to care. From the moment he walked over, it was clear he didn't want to be there. No greeting, no smile, just an eye roll and a bored "What do you want?" His tone was cold and borderline hostile, like we were inconveniencing him by daring to sit down and order food. When we politely asked a question about the menu, he sighed dramatically and snapped back a one-word answer. Food took forever to arrive -- and when it did, it was slammed down on the table with zero acknowledgment. No "enjoy," no checking back, not even a glance in our direction until the check was dropped like a bomb. And don't even bother asking for a refill unless you want to be met with attitude and contempt. I don't know how someone like that ends up in customer service, especially in such a beloved, family-oriented spot. Aunt Carrie's is supposed to feel like home -- not like you're being judged by a surly ghost in a bad mood. Save yourself the bad energy. I know I will. read more

I whipped out my phone & googled DDD (that's Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives to the uninitiated) & Guy Fieri did a segment on Aunt Carrie's Restaurant featuring their clam cakes & chowdah. They fry their clam cakes in beef fat & yes, it gives them a different taste. Their white chowder was less creamy than traditional New England. I'm Reviewing the Seafood Restaurant building of Aunt Carrie's not the ice cream Parlor since it is clearly managed differently in each building. The clam Cakes were huge and they were meaty and delicious the portions of the fried Calamari were big. They were tasty too though I didn't care too much for the fries on the side. They were kind of on the cold side of things My wife had the steamers and another member of our party had the coconut shrimp and both were very satisfied with their dishes. The atmosphere was cozy and quaint Typical seafood shack decor The service wasn't exactly perfect the drinks came in a can which to me is always tacky for a sit down restaurant to serve and they didn't have Diet Coke among their Coca Cola products . We all had to settle for Coke Zero which really isn't the same thing . Plus the fact that after we were done eating we had to wait 20 minutes for our check . That'll always cost you a star IMO They gave us free vouchers for kids ice cream across the street in their ice cream parlor and gift shop with a purchase of a kids meal But it wasn't worth it . They said it would be 40 minutes to serve the kids ice cream. Aunt Carrie's seafood restaurant was decent but their ice cream shop absolutely sucked. read more

Absolute worst service I've experienced in a long long time. Truly. I know this is a huge tourist spot, so we expected there to be a lot of people and a wait. It took 40 minutes to get a table. And by the time the "host" seated us (he's just a snarky teenager), there were 3 empty tables for up to 4 in the front section. When I got up to go to the bathroom, there were seven (count that - SEVEN) empty tables in the back. It takes the busboys a good 5-10 minutes to clear the tables once a they've been vacated. Our waitress took 10 minutes before she even came over and asked for our drinks. We waited a further 30 minutes before our food came. When the food did come, the broiled scallops were burnt, and the fish and chips resembled curled up pieces of ribbon that had been fried to within an inch of their lives. You couldn't actually even taste the fish. It was all breading. So overall, a huge disappointment and not worth the $72 for 2 plates and 2 kids meals. We live about 45 minutes away, and we try to hit up these iconic landmarks at least once a summer. I won't be coming back. read more

My wife and I went to Aunt Carries Restaurant today in Narragansett, R.I. We ordered 2 cups of chowder, clear and white, and it was horrible. It was all water, bland, with very, very little clams in it. I only had 1/2 of it and threw it away. We ordered a half dozen clam cakes and 2 Diet Cokes for a total of $31.00 dollars. The clam cakes weren't very good and very doughy. Never again. Worst place we've been for chowder and clam cakes. Not worth it at all. It has gone down hill and not many people were there as well. This is a beachy rustic clam shack offering takeout as well as dine in. For what it is, it's solid. Enormous clam cakes, chowders, fish and chips, burgers. They offer a large menu. Dining there has its advantages. They serve fantastic homemade raisin bread. To. Die. For. You can also soak up the beach vibe you can walk down to the edge of the water. We have never had a problem parking and seating is pretty quick if there is a wait. I recommend this RI gem. It's an experience on a summer day. read more

Last review we had yet to move back home to RI and finally moved back in 2020. Nothing has changed! I guarantee you a fantastic bowl of chowder ( you have to do RI clear style) and clam cakes FULL of clams. We popped in opening weekend this spring and were not disappointed! Today, my spouse grabbed chowder and clam cakes to go. It was still deliciously warm when it arrived home and he has perfected reheating clam cakes in the air fryer. I am a little. miffed, ordered dozen clam cakes and 2 waters. bill was $28. I was expecting nice fluffy clam cakes but instead they were dense cold and practically no clams. I've been coming here every summer since I can remember. The clam cakes are my gold standard and I used to get a loaf of the cinnamon raisin bread to make French Toast at home. Then I needed to eat gluten free and now I can't eat any of my old favorites. The chowder is gluten free, but there are very limited other options. No gluten free bread or buns available. Steamers, steamed lobster, and broiled sea scallops are really the only options for take out, besides the chowder. If you can eat fried food, you should definitely come visit and eat some clam cakes and a clam roll with fries for me. read more

Had to visit Aunt Carries while in Rhode Island on vacation. It it is not a fine dining restaurant, but it is a fun, rustic place that has been in business 100 years, and I last visited about 20 years ago so it was on my list this trip. The clam cakes are HUGE so warning - don't order a half dozen like I did unless you plan to take 3-4 home. My wife liked the fish and chips, with a light breaded fish. As others mentioned, the "milk" clam chowder though was thinner than expected, so that could be improved. Plenty of parking with more across the street, and excellent, friendly table service. All in all a nice place for lunch on a sunny day. And even better to finish off lunch with great ice cream just across the street! read more

There were also options to dine in or take out. We chose to take out. There was a pretty long line but it moved at a decent pace. This was a huge disappointment and came highly recommended as the place to go. Overpriced. Tourist trap. Ordered fried shrimp that were clearly frozen bagged shrimp grocery store quality. We got our order to go to bring back to our campsite and only to see that half our order was missing. And they don't make it easy to talk to someone to resolve problem. Had to leave a message. And then had to reach out on Facebook to be able to explain our concern. But I will say once we talked to someone they were apologetic and did credit us for the missing food items.
