We were visiting friends in Narragansett on our way to Cape Cod and had plans to have lunch with them. This is a regular choice for them for dinner on occasions. As it was lunchtime when we met them, it was nice to know lunch is available also. It's a beautiful location near the Point Judith Lighthouse though a simple local restaurant in a plain building. There is ample parking which is nice during tourist season. We had already heard that they serve the local form of clam chowder, not the Boston based milk and cream variety. I was thrilled to get the clear broth original style from before the popular updates were made for commercial acclaim. This clear broth allows the clam and potato to be dominant as the fishermen families served in the past, before Boston added cream and NYC added tomatoes. I also wanted my first lobster roll of the trip, also the fisherman local style, no mayo dressing or spices, just the cooked meat with a little warm butter on the warm meat. It was on a roll with lettuce which was actually unnecessary for me. Locals use hot dog rolls and simple lettuce. I used a fork and just ate the lobster. I've hear that some locals can just order the lobster meat plain in the plate. Same with their scallops though we only ordered lobster this time. They only had canned drinks this day so instead of iced tea or an Arnold Palmer, I had a simple Ginger Ale, though the others with me had Coke. The meat was warm, firm and well cooked and really tasty. And their pricing was really fair for the volume and quality. It was busy but we were well served. Finally went to Aunt Carrie's and had an excellent meal. Great white chowder with perfectly fried clam cakes. Fried clam strips are made with real strips of clam that didn't come from a tin - which shouldn't be something that needs to be said but most places do a lousy job with clam strips. The fish and chips were also great and made with delicate flounder. The prices are reasonable and it's everything you would want from a local seafood spot. Our servers were all very nice and attentive and the main dining room has a nice view. There is a takeout counter as well. My mom and I have been trying to eat at this place for years, but we rarely come in the summer and always miss out. Finally made it! The chowder and clam cakes were recommended, and omg were they good- and filling! Walking past another table that ordered before us, I thought the clam cakes were giant hunks of fried chicken, but no. Giant hunks of fried dough with clams mixed in. Absolutely delicious when dunked in the chowder. The restaurant itself is adorable, and I imagine looks refreshingly the same as it has for years. This is, absolutely, a hidden gem! Right on the beach, visited my daughter at URI and we stopped in. Incredible seafood! Priced very reasonably!! Summertime the place must be swamped like mad. I've been going to Iggy's for clam cakes and chowder for decades. On a whim, I decided to travel a bit further and try the same at Aunt Carries. The service was friendly and accommodating. When the food arrived, I noticed immediately that the clam cakes were bigger than those at Iggy's and looked more delicious. Well, the adage "looks can be deceiving" certainly applies here. The cakes were literally tasteless, like someone forgot to put any seasoning in the batter. The chowder was the same - tasteless. I tried the red and my wife tries the white. We both looked at each other after the first spoonful. I would liken it to eating dishwater, like someone forgot to ad seasoning. Maybe the meal could pass muster as hospital food, but for a native Rhode Islander, it was horrible. We couldn't even finish the meal. I dined there today for dinner with my family and friends and ordered the fresh catch of the day. The service was amazing. It was supposed to be baked cod with bread crumbs but it was char broiled well done without any bread crumbs. I sent it back because it was clearly burnt. The second try was just as bad burnt burnt burnt, tasted like rubber, and others tried and confirmed too. I should've ask for a manager but was polite and I politely should have asked for something else at that point.. I only ate two bites it was that bad.. The NE chowder was watered down and they forgot the hot sauce I requested. I asked for crayons for the kids but they never came..had to up to the host and ask for crayons and hot sauce. The key lime pie was ok. There was no hand soap in the bathroom which was concerning, how do the staff and kitchen staff wash their hands? The ice cream across the street was much better. The kids meals included vouchers for ice cream. The waffle cone tasted like a fresh waffle, but the scoops were small. If I ever went back I'd just order the take out and not deviate from the normal seafood menu. Lobster roll, lobster anything, fish and chips etc.. Seafood Sam's is way better. Let's do something different and start with dessert. In short, hats' off to the baker. We ordered blueberry pie with a scoop of chocolate ice cream, and asked for the pie to be served warm. It was, and the pie was superb. I'm guessing that the pie was made with real Maine wild blueberries, as these were the small berries that we've only been able to get from Wyman's in Maine. While tiny (as compared to our local hand-picked blueberries here in Rhode Island), they are packed with flavor, not terribly sweet, and as such are always terrific when baked in a pie. Speaking of baking, the pie crust was flaky and delicious and almost worth just ordering the pie just to enjoy the crust. The pies are freshly baked on site at Aunt Carrie's. As far as our lunch was concerned, we ordered Fish and Chips and a Lobster Sandwich. The fish was cooked with a very light coating, not the more traditional heavy batter, and was done perfectly. The fries that accompanied the fish were basic, which was fine as we don't go to Aunt Carrie's for the fries. The Lobster Sandwich was especially good, with loads of lobster meat chunks and shreds, and served hot (my choice) on freshly baked bread. The bread was exceptional in its own right, almost worth ordering the sandwich just for the bread. Our server, Abby, was on top of her game and seemed to be always ready for us whenever we needed anything. Business was brisk, all of the wait staff appeared to be fully tasked. As a seashore restaurant in a gorgeous Rhode Island summer, the atmosphere was perfect, with the windows open and a lovely ocean breeze over our table. Just perfect. read more

I've been coming to Aunt Carrie's in Narragansett for years, but after my most recent visit, I won't be back anytime soon. We were "served" (if you can even call it that) by a tall, lanky, pale waiter whose name started with an A -- and unfortunately, that's all I caught before I was too irritated to care. From the moment he walked over, it was clear he didn't want to be there. No greeting, no smile, just an eye roll and a bored "What do you want?" His tone was cold and borderline hostile, like we were inconveniencing him by daring to sit down and order food. When we politely asked a question about the menu, he sighed dramatically and snapped back a one-word answer. Food took forever to arrive -- and when it did, it was slammed down on the table with zero acknowledgment. No "enjoy," no checking back, not even a glance in our direction until the check was dropped like a bomb. And don't even bother asking for a refill unless you want to be met with attitude and contempt. I don't know how someone like that ends up in customer service, especially in such a beloved, family-oriented spot. Aunt Carrie's is supposed to feel like home -- not like you're being judged by a surly ghost in a bad mood. Save yourself the bad energy. I know I will. read more

Absolute worst service I've experienced in a long long time. Truly. I know this is a huge tourist spot, so we expected there to be a lot of people and a wait. It took 40 minutes to get a table. And by the time the "host" seated us (he's just a snarky teenager), there were 3 empty tables for up to 4 in the front section. When I got up to go to the bathroom, there were seven (count that - SEVEN) empty tables in the back. It takes the busboys a good 5-10 minutes to clear the tables once a they've been vacated. Our waitress took 10 minutes before she even came over and asked for our drinks. We waited a further 30 minutes before our food came. When the food did come, the broiled scallops were burnt, and the fish and chips resembled curled up pieces of ribbon that had been fried to within an inch of their lives. You couldn't actually even taste the fish. It was all breading. So overall, a huge disappointment and not worth the $72 for 2 plates and 2 kids meals. We live about 45 minutes away, and we try to hit up these iconic landmarks at least once a summer. I won't be coming back. read more

I'm Reviewing the Seafood Restaurant building of Aunt Carrie's not the ice cream Parlor since it is clearly managed differently in each building. The clam Cakes were huge and they were meaty and delicious the portions of the fried Calamari were big. They were tasty too though I didn't care too much for the fries on the side. They were kind of on the cold side of things My wife had the steamers and another member of our party had the coconut shrimp and both were very satisfied with their dishes. The atmosphere was cozy and quaint Typical seafood shack decor The service wasn't exactly perfect the drinks came in a can which to me is always tacky for a sit down restaurant to serve and they didn't have Diet Coke among their Coca Cola products . We all had to settle for Coke Zero which really isn't the same thing . Plus the fact that after we were done eating we had to wait 20 minutes for our check . That'll always cost you a star IMO They gave us free vouchers for kids ice cream across the street in their ice cream parlor and gift shop with a purchase of a kids meal But it wasn't worth it . It was all water, bland, with very, very little clams in it. I only had 1/2 of it and threw it away. We ordered a half dozen clam cakes and 2 Diet Cokes for a total of $31.00 dollars. The clam cakes weren't very good and very doughy. Never again. Worst place we've been for chowder and clam cakes. Not worth it at all. It has gone down hill and not many people were there as well. I've been coming here every summer since I can remember. The clam cakes are my gold standard and I used to get a loaf of the cinnamon raisin bread to make French Toast at home. Then I needed to eat gluten free and now I can't eat any of my old favorites. The chowder is gluten free, but there are very limited other options. No gluten free bread or buns available. Steamers, steamed lobster, and broiled sea scallops are really the only options for take out, besides the chowder. If you can eat fried food, you should definitely come visit and eat some clam cakes and a clam roll with fries for me. read more

This is a beachy rustic clam shack offering takeout as well as dine in. For what it is, it's solid. Enormous clam cakes, chowders, fish and chips, burgers. They offer a large menu. Dining there has its advantages. They serve fantastic homemade raisin bread. To. Die. For. You can also soak up the beach vibe you can walk down to the edge of the water.
