And holy moly they were all phenomenal. There were four adults and we were all completely satisfied with the amount of food from those items. I thought I was 12 years old again growing up in my hometown Hana. The plate had one akule, 3 scoops white rice, diced tomatoes and onions, and a sauce mix of shoyu, calamansi, and vinegar. I'm old school native Hawaiian weigh about 270 lbs. I'm not a professional reviewer or taster, BUT I am a professional eater. So I lovingly told my wife, "Honey...next time you see this special again, buy 2 plates." I don't know who Bruddah Al is, but he know what he doing. I highly recommend Al's BBQ Pit for locals and vistors.

The truck itself is fun, painted with bright tropical colors and scenes, and they seem to be known for their loaded tots and bao buns. I placed my order on the touchscreen outside and then sat down to wait for my food. For lunch on this day I went with the buffalo chicken tots and the Island Piggy bao. The menu described the bao as kalua pork, BBQ sauce, tropical salsa, and pickled red onions. The buffalo chicken tots were described as buttermilk fried chicken, buffalo sauce, jack cheddar cheese, house made pickles, and ranch dressing. It took less than 10 minutes for my food to be ready and I sat down at one of the shaded picnic tables. When I opened everything up it all looked good, but I did notice that the tots were missing the house made pickles. I started with the bao and thought it was pretty good. The kalua pork was super juicy and the bao bun was light and fluffy while still holding together well. The pickled onions added a nice acidity and the tropical salsa brought good flavor. The only thing I did not notice much was the BBQ sauce. After that I dug into the tots. The tots themselves were cooked nicely with a crispy outside and soft inside. The chicken was good as well with a nice batter and the buffalo sauce added flavor while the cheese was gooey. The only thing worth noting is that the chicken was softer than expected and not very crispy. It worked since I did have the texture from the crispy tots, but it stood out. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I would probably not order both a bao and tots again as it was a lot of food, but I would definitely come back for one or the other.

We ordered the catch of the day poke (marlin) bowl with the spicy aioli sauce, and the Ahi poke bowl with the traditional Shoyu based sauce. We also got rice and slaw. Both fish plates were fresh, flavorful, and delicious. The slaw was also very refreshing and complimented the richness of the poke really well. We arrived right around 2:00 PM--perfect timing to catch that sweet spot between the lunch and dinner rush. The restaurant was incredibly clean on the inside, it wasn't busy at all, and we were seated immediately. (Bonus: If you're in a rush, they have a convenient dedicated counter right by the front for takeout orders!) The Details & Sides I have to give a shout-out to the presentation. George didn't think the branded logo accessories were necessary, but personally, I love logos! They were served plain, which is probably a smart move to keep salt from falling through the holes in the basket and making a mess on the way from the kitchen, but I definitely would have preferred them salted!
