Such an amazing experience at Aurora! I came in on a Friday night after a friend had recommended this spot to me and was so glad that I did. I sat at the bar, ordered a cocktail, and had the loveliest dinner. The bar is first-come-first-served and I was able to snag a spot right away! For my cocktail, I ordered the Domino (casamigos blanco, pamplemousse grapefruit liqueur, fresh lime) after going back and forth between that and the Grand St. The Domino was delicious, highly recommend. For food, I started with the Tuscan Kale salad (Tuscan kale, brussels sprouts, pistachio, lemon oil, pecorino oro), followed by the Cacio e pepe and everything was incredible. The salad was tasty and exciting and the cacio e pepe was melt-in-your-mouth good. I would eat it every day if I could. Also ordered a glass of the Montepulciano wine and I was a huge fan. This was SUCH a gem of a find. A few of my girlfriends and I decided to walk around Brooklyn while we waited for a table at a different restaurant that quoted 2 hours. We ended up in this area, realized we were starving and decided to eat here. The decor, esthetic and overall vibe was incredible. They have a indoor/outdoor dinning patio that really adds to the space. It's very well put together. The service was super friendly. Our server was very attentive and kind. It all felt very authentic. Now for the good part, the food! Based on other reviews I had read, I opted for the French toast. GUYS; it is SO good. The presentation is so pretty and while it doesn't seem like a big portion, I got full pretty quickly. The French toast mastered textures, with a crust-like exterior and a warm fluffy interior. This toast was packed with flavor and was even (stuffed?) with an (apple?) compote at the bottom. This toast is really the perfect sweet breakfast- not overly sweet in the slightest. I was also able to try my friend's dish. An english muffin topped with fresh prosciutto egg and black truffle. woah, this gets my mouth watering. It was a bite filled with decadent flavors. I forgot to book a table at Lilia, so I booked Aurora instead. I'm not sorry that I did. Aurora is a tiny restaurant on Grand Street that serves amazing food. There is a lot of outdoor seating, so don't hesitate to book. The menu is very small, but very well executed. Our Octopus was fabulous, as was our Tuna Tartare. We recently hosted our wedding at Aurora and couldn't be happier with how it turned out! It's the perfect venue for an intimate, romantic but low-key wedding in New York City. Many of our guests told us it was the best wedding food they'd ever had, and several commented on the quality of the service they received. They handled food allergies incredibly well, despite it being a 'family style' menu. The staff also went above and beyond to quickly 'winterize' the mixed indoor/outdoor space in the 48 hours before the wedding since we happened to get married during a tropical storm! The restaurant has a beautiful decor and we were seated in a nicely-enclosed (but not fully heated) extension that felt almost like being inside of a structure, except when it was windy and the chill seeped in. The host and servers were all very welcoming and pleasant throughout. The food, however, was in all respects marginal. Nothing rose above average despite above-average pricing. The tuna tartare and fried calamari and shrimp were decent appetizers that met the standard. I had the squid ink paccheri as my entree and had looked forward to the sea urchin which was faintly present, at best, and really just lacked being anything special. Others at the table got the cacio e pepe and the octopus and nobody had a reaction beyond "eh". The highlight, such as it was, was the side of roasted brussels sprouts. I would not go back because my priority is the food's uniqueness and flavor and, unfortunately, it just did not achieve high marks in those regards. read more

Rustic, underrated and a nice change of atmosphere from the super hyped up establishments down the street. A place that not too many people talk about but can always draw a crowd. Aurora's team has created a crowd pleasing menu that strikes a balance between "lunch" foods and "brunch" foods -- which is exactly why we love coming here time after time again. Walking in you feel the coziness of this restaurant with its dark lighting scheme and closely placed tables. The place is packed on a Saturday night being that the food is realllyyyyy good. We had reservations for 8:30 and had to wait for seating. It seems that people come, sit, and stay the night. When we finally sat down we were greeted by a few waiters every couple of minutes who were all happy to take our orders. Very busy but all worked together. We both ordered a glass of the gavi-- a refreshingly light white wine. We ordered the artichokes and the whipped ricotta to start. The artichokes were my favorite things from that night for sure so perfectly grilled with a beautiful stracciatella compliment-- ooooooh so good. The ricotta was decorated with a gorgeous roasted pepper dip and beautiful, thick, crusty bread. It was just the two of us so we decided to order one meal and a side and thankfully we did because that amount of grains and cheese stuffed us right up. We decided to go for the mushroom risotto again with stracciatella. My friend who normally doesn't eat mushrooms was delighted by this dish. So perfectly done for a dish that's hard to get good and right. And the side of cacio e pepe polenta was fantastic!! So crispy and crunchy a small part of the meal but an excellent addition. Overall I am happy we finally decided to try this place out but I am upset that I wasn't able to get the full experience because of my lacking of tastebuds. I had such a great time here for a close friend's wedding! The venue was lovely and virtually transported me to Italy for the duration of the ceremony and the reception. That is the magic of NYC restaurants. They have the ability to allow you to experience whatever their vision is. Aurora's vision appeared to be a quaint Italian neighborhood that had a charming restaurant tucked away off the beaten track full of great staff, adorned with running plants adorning the walls and a sunroof that let all the light in on the patio. Not only was the ambiance, customer service and location right, the food was delectable! I ate so much in one night I don't think I could have even desired anymore food to consume. I have to preface this review by saying that I am thankful that the dishes were served family style so there were about two or three dishes per table so people could take the portions they wanted. This was a BRILLIANT idea because once I saw all the options on the menu I made sure to save room for the next and the next....you get the idea. To start we had the antipasti aka appetizer. This was a peach salad with arugula, stracciatella cheese, hazelnut an cured Valtellina speck. It was not my cup of tea because I am not a fan of peaches but the dishes to come were more than satisfying! Course 1: Grilled Mediterranean octopus, cipollini onions potato salad , almond romesco, Calabrian chili was good but I knew better was coming. Course 2: Prosciutto e Burrata was a 24 month aged Prosciutto di Parma, burrata cheese, rustic filone bread with tomato. Since I don't eat pork, I only had the burrata cheese and it was just divine. Course 3: Ravioli Gallinelle e Tartufo: Burrata cheese filled pasta, chantelle mushrooms, blanchetto truffle ragu, ParmigianoReggiano- Was my favorite. I love some pasta but this one was AMAZING! Course 4: Branzino: whole roasted Meditternean sea bass with sweet pepper caponata was my second favorite because the fish was so fresh and well seasoned. I am not a big seafood person but this dish was done very well. The sweet pepper was a nice touch. Course 5: Steak and Potatoes rounded out the course list. I nippled on a little bit from this plate but was pretty full by the time this came around. After all of this you must be wondering how I had enough space to eat the cake? I wondered how I did it too. Not only did we have cake, but the bride had an ice cream truck so I was stuffed but very very happy and satisfied beyond words. read more

Both times we went early & were not greeted or given a specific server. They were more focused on setting for later, bigger parties than giving us attention & proper service. Out waiter was absolutely terrible: he spilled my cocktail all over the place, to the floor and onto the table then spilled the fries as well to my husbands lap an on the floor--it hasn't even crossed his mind to replace the fries with a new one given that the 1/3 of it ended on the floor. The food is mediocre, the burger patty was chewy. The cocktail was awful: it should've been a mix of different drinks (hence the name and according to what was on the menu) but I only could taste the very strong, cheap booze. Located in South Williamsburg, close to Domino Park and the East River waterfront, Aurora is a solid weekend brunch spot. The restaurant is very popular - even with reservations, we still had to wait about fifteen minutes to be escorted to our table. Inside, the exposed brick walls and wooden furnishings create a rustic ambience, while the garden seating outdoors offers an abundance of natural light. More space is available outside near the entrance to accommodate additional guests. I kicked off brunch with a mimosa, which was strong enough that I didn't need a second one. Because Aurora serves Italian cuisine, I had to get a pasta dish for my main course. I went with the spinach and ricotta ravioli, dressed with a wild mushroom sugo, chives, and freshly grated cheese. The sauce was creamy, yet light, and the ravioli were cooked al dente. The filling could have used more spinach, as the ricotta inside plus the grated cheese on top made the pasta a little too cheesy for my taste. But overall, I was pleased with my choice. Despite how busy the restaurant was, we never felt rushed at any point during our meal. I'd definitely return to try some of the other pasta dishes on the menu. read more

The food is okay and the drinks are okay. Ive been there twice and it usually take about 20-25 minutes to get a drink. It is a really fun place to go to, they have live performances and a dj so the ambiance is fun. I would recommend going there for a fun night out. We were in the Williamsburg area and decided to check this place out. The food itself is a pretty solid 3.5-4.0 but putting overall at a 3 because of the longer than anticipated wait time. When we got there, we asked how long it would be for us to get a table and he greeted us like we had already checked in before and said that it would still be around 15 minutes, which was fine with us. But, we hadn't checked in before so he must have confused us with a different Asian couple who came in before.. We didn't see any other Asian couples waiting inside or outside though, so we figured it would still be 15 minutes and waited towards the front. 15-20 minutes later we checked in and he said they were getting the table ready, but then this took another 10 or so minutes, so the wait time was much longer than 15 minutes. For the dishes we got the mafaldine with oxtail ragu and the ravioli. My boyfriend really liked the ravioli, although was a smaller portion than expected. The mafaldine was recommended to us by the server, but I felt it was a little too salty. The presentation of both dishes though was well done and the server was pretty attentive. Overall, I'm not sure I would recommend this place unless you are already in the area. I would suggest getting appetizers if you want a more filling meal. read more
