Don't get me wrong, the service was good and they really tried to take care of us, they were clearly just very slammed and overwhelmed. My group of 3 went to the bar on a Tuesday evening around 7pm. If you don't mind a long wait between getting food, drinks, or putting in an order, it's a great spot with a good vibe, great music, nice specialty drinks and good snacks. We've been twice. On the first occasion we ate in the dining room, the second at a long high-top in the bar. Both were warm, fun, gregarious meals with an assist from our waitresses. They are typically quite busy on weekend nights in the winter season, but they do get food out and everyone in our two groups loved their food. Austria Hof is an experience and a destination. I thoroughly enjoyed both of my meals, as did my wife and our company. We'll be back next winter when skiing takes us back to Mammoth. read more

Amazing, amazing, amazing Pork Belly. I would recommend getting 2 of those honestly. Some of the best I've ever had. Baked Brie was solid too, if you like brie then it might be more enjoyable for you. Was a bit let down from the schnitzel, well cooked and tasting pork but not much else to it. The elk was fantastic though, if I'm ever back there I'll be sure to get that, even for the high price. Also decent apple strudel but wish it was sweeter. Waitress made a nice Shirley Temple too. About $150 for dinner for 2, filling and tasty. Can definitely recommend if you're ever in mammoth lakes and want a bit of fancier cuisine. read more

Service was nice, but the quality of food was lacking especially for the price. I ordered a ribeye, medium rare. I do think it was a bit undercooked still. And they didn't allow the steak to rest enough so it was chewy and sitting in a pretty big pile of juices. Very nice place, we always come once every time we're in Mammoth. The only problem is sometimes service is a little slow if they are slammed. All the food is very very good. We loved the apps we had last time that were pretzel with cheese and mustard sauces, and a baked Brie, both amazing along with the schnitzels they offer. Last time We got so Bored waiting to order dessert that we finally just asked for the check so we could go home. With kids we can't sit all night and linger. But we still faithfully come. read more

Worst service ever! I called to place a phone order and was told they're not taking phone orders. Instead I was told to come in in-person to place an order to-go. This was not convenient but I did so, only to be told by a young man after conferring with a short blond in the kitchen (only feet away from me) that they're not taking to-go orders. They said they were slammed but at 6pm there were many unoccupied tables. At the host stand I could see waiters eating and standing around in the kitchen clearly not busy. The host told me they had 69 reservations for the night but I was confused how that meant anything to me who was presently there. It's not like the 69 reservations all placed their orders in advance. It was all nonsensical. This place is full of horse shEAT and I do not recommend ever supporting those who dish horse shEAT to people. Rude MF'ers. read more

Holy crap. This place is incredible. Moody date night vibes with sports playing quietly. The wine is decently priced and super delicious. The mushroom app has to be the best thing I've ever tasted. We loved the goat cheese and tomato crostini as well. The veal medium rare was absolute heaven and the fries were perfect. This place has been there a long time. Super close to the hill. Went for dinner during a Fall trip for the foliage. I had the Jaegerschnitzel which was really good. The mushroom sauce was just fantastic. My wife had the goulash; tasty & very generous portion. We had some leftovers!! My only dings would be that the age of the furniture is showing quite a bit. Coat hooks on the booth dividers seems like an obvious thing to have, especially in the winter. I don't think they need so many non-German influenced menu items, but that's just me. Location and ambiance was good. Venison dish was 4 seared chucks of Venison on a bed of French fries, one chunk of cauliflower 3 asparagus spears and some julienne carrots. I felt it was lacking. Reservations were next to impossible to get. I got the last 5 pm reservation on a Monday but there were lots of empty tables. I couldn't add a person (for a total of 4) on the Yelp reservation without bumping the ressie to 8 pm. We were told they were short handed in staff which showed in the service. read more

Let me start by saying, our family absolutely loves German food, and it's a rare and wonderful treat when there is such a restaurant near where we are staying. I'd been to Austria Hof long ago on ski trips, this was the first time with the family in the summer and I'd been hyping up that we were having schnitzel for dinner. The interior is super quaint and cozy - dark wood throughout, reminiscent of an old European lodge. We had made reservations and were quickly seated at nice, large table. They have limited selection of some good German beers and a decent wine list. The menu is a mix of American and German specialties: exotic steaks/meats, salads, seafood, etc., prepared in upscale ways. The German specialties include Wiener and jaeger schnitzel, sausages, goulash, with red cabbage and spätzle - yum! I confidently ordered 5 jaeger schnitzels for us. When our food arrived, the pork was sauteed with a thin pan sauce with literally a couple of mushrooms. The pork was wonderfully tender and flavorful, and the red cabbage, spätzle and side of veggies were delicious. What's wrong here? Anyplace in Europe I've had jaeger schnitzel, it's always pork or veal breaded and fried with a rich and creamy mushroom gravy (Google it). I should have read the menu more carefully where it said "sauteed," but I didn't. Still tasted good, but a huge disappointment, and almost $40 a plate for something I can make at home in about 20min, less the spätzle. Our server, Anna I believe, was awesome - friendly and attentive throughout. Definitely worth a stop if you want some good, hearty food in a fun atmosphere; just keep your Wiener schnitzel (breaded and fried) straight from your jaeger schnitzel (sauteed cutlets here). read more

If I could give 100 stars I would! My family and I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and ate at the restaurant / bar all 3 nights and it never disappointed. Do yourself a favor and try the Elk, it is Devine. We also had filet mignon which was absolutely delicious. The tomato stack is amazing and I could eat it over and over again. My husband and 2 children (11 and 12) dined 2 times in the restaurant. Jarren was our server and he was very attentive and helpful. He recommended 3 entrees and the elk was to die for! My husband and I went to the bar all 3 nights and we were served by Alicia and Wallace who were amazing!!! These people are incredible, the service they provide is top notch. The dining choices in Mammoth are pretty limited and not particularly famous for great customer service but we had dined twice at Austria Hof and had great experience both times. They were quite accommodating with our last min reservation. Our server was very nice and kept checking on us many times. During our most recent visit our group ordered fillet mignon, shrimp scampi, ahi tuna and steak frites as entree and all were good. Overall great experience and recommended! read more

We're so excited to try this restaurant during our stay mid October 2023. We walked the steady incline all the way from the village just to find out that they're closed October and November. Google, yelp, Facebook all said this restaurant is open. They have the time to put a note on the door, but not enough time to mark their business as temporarily closed for season?
