Dining at Skadi was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Mammoth. This exceptional Norwegian restaurant is nestled right in the heart of Mammoth Village, offering an upscale yet inviting atmosphere with a refined, cozy ambiance that immediately sets the tone for a memorable evening. We visited as a family of four and made reservations ahead of time after hearing so many great things--and we felt incredibly fortunate to secure a Sunday booking, especially since they're closed Monday through Wednesday. It ended up being the perfect way to begin our time in Mammoth. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, attentive, and efficient without ever feeling rushed. And the food? Absolutely divine. Every dish reflected the expertise and care of a master chef with decades of experience in Norwegian cuisine. What truly elevated the evening was the personal touch--the chef graciously visited our table to greet us and ensure everything was to our liking. That kind of hospitality is rare and deeply appreciated. We ordered three appetizers, a soup, three entrées, and finished with crème brûlée for dessert--and every single item was flawless. An exceptional dining experience from start to finish. Five stars--well deserved. Thank you for an unforgettable meal.

Booked a reservation for my husband to celebrate Fathers Day. Every single dish was amazing! The starter bread was delicious! We had the mushroom crepe, a corn soup, salmon, ny steak, raspberry panda cotta, trio chocolate dessert. We LOVED it all! We are already planning to come in the near future!

By far the best restaurant in Mammoth. Excellent service, top notch food, small intimate setting with about 12 tables. Prices really aren't much higher than places in the village. Well worth the effort of getting a reservation.

We chose Skadi for a special night out with friends (including two Swedes in our group) because of its Norwegian chef and intriguing, thoughtfully curated menu.....and it absolutely delivered. Located inside the Empeiria High Sierra Hotel, the restaurant is small and intimate, with only about ten tables, making the experience feel personal and intentional from the moment you arrive. The entrance resembles a classic Scandinavian house--painted red, just as you'd expect--and inside you'll find beautiful Scandinavian art pieces, including a stunning, intricately carved wooden bench. The open-kitchen floor plan adds to the experience; it was fascinating to watch the team work with such precision and calm. Skadi's menu is truly special and adventurous, featuring items many people might hesitate to order. The shaved deer heart starter was surprisingly one of the highlights of the evening. The combination of ingredients was perfectly balanced, with flavors that complemented each other and melted together beautifully. My personal favorite was the Canadian duck breast, cooked to absolute perfection. Every single person in our group cleaned their plate, which says a lot. They also offer a thoughtfully curated wine list designed to pair seamlessly with the food. Service was attentive without being overbearing, and we even had the pleasure of meeting Chef Ian Algerøen, which made the experience feel even more special. This is absolutely a special-occasion restaurant....intimate, unique, and memorable. Highly recommend Skadi if you're looking for something truly different and exceptional in the Mammoth Lakes Area.

Incredible food, atmosphere, and service. I'm going to recommend to any friends and family who mention visiting mammoth. It's evident that the chef is passionate about his work.

Skadi moved to a new location on Main Street in the relatively new Sierra Emperia hotel. Their venue just off the main lobby is a great improvement over their last location in an industrial park off the town center. Ian, the owner, transferred all their Scandinavian artwork and motifs to create a very airy and inviting restaurant The food continued to be outstanding! Every dish you need to eat slowly to savor, enjoy and appreciate the nuances of the contrasting flavors. The duck and scallops are standouts in the varied and great menu. Service is competent and friendly. Wine service is also excellent with fair prices for the various wines. Don't miss this restaurant while in Mammoth. It is hands down the best! Book well in advance because they sell out just about every night.

This was one of the best restaurants we've been to in California. Absolutely such a cool atmosphere for a ski town, really amazing and thoughtful food, great desert, and a talented chef. Thanks Skadi!

The cafe may be small and cozy, but their coffee is definitely big on flavor. It's such a cute and beautiful spot, with a tempting selection of pastries and plenty of delicious coffee options to try. I didn't go too fancy this time because I was really craving a cortado (macchiato), but when I saw they had lavender, I couldn't resist adding it to my double shot. Such a good combination! The coffee was excellent--creamy, smooth, and full of flavor. I'll definitely be coming back to explore more of their coffee menu... and next time, I may have to stay a little later and check out their wine bar too. A lovely little unexpected find!

No other business does this on Reddit. First, service is very slow and pretty haughty. I had to wait 30 minutes for a simple pesto chicken crepe. It tasted disgusting. I got the apple dessert crepe. It was full of little cubes of raw apple that just fell out of the crepe. There was barely any cinnamon or sugar in it. I also got the pesto crepe. There was a splash of pesto and a couple little pieces of chicken. 90% of the crepe is the bread or galette or whatever. The rest (which isn't much) is just thrown in there. At $16 each, this was a complete ripoff, even worse than the usual Mammoth ripoff. The ambiance is pretty good though and they have a nice wine bar area. I could see this place being good for breakfast, but it's not worth spending any more of my money there.

Ravioli Bolognese: The standout dish. Rich, meaty, satisfying, and exactly the kind of homemade pasta dish that makes this place worth visiting. Pepperoni Pizza: Excellent crust, good char, and crispy pepperoni cups. Simple and really well executed. This is genuinely good pizza, not just good pizza for a mountain town. Caesar: One of the more unusual Caesars I've had. It arrived with essentially whole heads of lettuce, celery, and a homemade crunchy component that reminded us of a savory funnel cake. The homemade dressing was excellent. Different, fun to share, and memorable. Pasta: This is where Vulcania really shines. Everything tastes homemade, and I'd be comfortable ordering just about any pasta on the menu. Chicken Parmesan: Pretty good overall, with a creamy, rich sauce over the top. It was a little too heavy for me, but everyone else at the table loved it. Meatball: I would skip this dish. The meatball was undercooked and felt like it was lacking a binding ingredient. One thing worth knowing is that the kitchen isn't particularly flexible about modifying dishes. That makes sense for a chef-driven restaurant, but it's worth considering if you have picky eaters or prefer lots of substitutions. Overall, Vulcania is still the best pizza and pasta we've had in Mammoth. The handmade pasta is the real draw, the pizza is excellent, and dishes like the Caesar give the menu enough personality to make it more interesting than standard Italian-American food.

I called and inquired about a few things and when we arrived, we were told a different story. Long story short, use OpenTable to make your reservations and avoid the headache. Outside Pods- If you're interested in sitting in the pods outside, it's an additional $50-100 (depending on the day) and can fit 6-8 people. We had several kids in our party and they enjoyed the novelty of it. Our waiter Cam was great and made up for the poor service with the host. He had great recommendations as all were spot on. Cam recommended "family style" as many of the entrees are large and it gives you a chance to sample everything. We started with the asparagus summer rolls and tricolore salad. Both were delicious and refreshing. For the entrees we shared the cacio e pepe, margherita pizza, orechiette nero and chicken parmesan. Again, everything was excellent. For dessert, the gelato comes with three huge scoops along with three zeppoles (Italian donuts). The food was excellent and probably one of my new favorites in Mammoth.
