Tony is just a tremendous mechanic. Almost certainly the most honest person I've ever dealt with in the course of having cars repaired. I drive a Porsche 911, and you expect huge bills for pretty much any work on such a car, but that's never the case with Tony. His labor rates are totally fair, as are the parts. He always explains what he needs to do/replace and why he needs to do it. And once he's done the work, it's fixed. His hit rate for solving a problem first time is 100% for me. Ok so this is the story, I bought a mercedes from a private owner and well I drove away and had a minor engine breakdown 2 hours later, long story short, the prev owner told me to take the car to Tony who has worked on it before. We called Tonys cell he said leave it at the shop. He came in the next day sunday diagnosed the car and well monday I went in to pick the pimp ride up and all was well. He did assure me driving it when its near empty is a no no for mercedes, ok so Im a newbie at this european car thing. Anyway I will be back to see Tony if there are any more problemos but for now I love my car and it loves me. Oh ya there are alot of really cool old mercedes,bmw, and old american cars too at this shop, however the sales people arent too aggressive. Its nice to just take a look around. read more

I just bought a used car this year and started having problems. My thermostat went bad, my rotors/brakes went bad, I needed and oil change, and I had other small things that needed to be fixed. I went to los gatos autohaus off of a friends recommendation and I wont take my car anywhere else NOW. I talked to a Toni and he is super friendly and professional. I don't know much about cars, but each time, he explain's my cars problems without trying to sell me on a new "problem" that needs to be fixed. I was told what exactly was wrong with my car and the different options/prices I had to fix it. The prices are insanely good and my car has always been finished super fast! Awesome shop. AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! I have purchased two vehicles from Autohaus Los Gatos through ebay, thought I was getting a great deal based on their ad descriptions but it turns out they NEVER write accurate ads. They apparently don't inspect, clean, detail, or really do anything to the cars they buy at auction, just post 'em up with glowing ads ("immaculate", "needs nothing") and hope for an uneducated buyer. Their method is to first try to make you feel stupid for even expecting it to not have issues ("EVERY car this age has THAT problem, what did you expect?") and if that doesn't work they offer a refund (knowing that you have already spent big bucks either having it shipped or flying out to pick it up, so that's usually not acceptable). The first car, '98 BMW 740iL, listed as "no issues", "checked and ready" cost me $1800 in service in the first month: tires (ok, I expected that), a/c recharge, water pump, serpentine belt, rear control arms, front grill (fell right out!), window regulator, and more. You still can't read any of the digital displays on the dash or radio because of the many missing pixels ("ALL of 'em are like that"). The other car, a '02 MB CLK430 listed as "immaculate" "needs nothing" had a window trim missing that left a 1/4" gap in the window seal (major rattle and horrible wind noise, lucky it didn't rain), broken antenna, the convertible top was weak (2 cables broken, needs help opening), the front air dam was ripped, the nav has only 1 disc (SoCal and AZ only), the clock and outside temp gauges have no display, and the dash constantly warned, "Service B due 347 days ago". When I called to complain they offered to refund my purchase price, knowing that my wife and I had already spent $$ to fly from TX to CA with the intention of taking a vacation drive home and we would have to shell out $600-800 more for a rent car or tickets home. Why should I be out $1400 because they can't write an honest ad?? We finally agreed to a $300 refund (which would cover at least the window issue) in exchange for not leaving bad feedback. After 6 weeks, 3 emails and 2 phone calls they finally tell me the check is in the mail, but it won't arrive til AFTER my feedback opportunity ends! and if I leave feedback they will stop the payment! These liars can keep their stinkin' 300 bucks, the world needs to know how they do business! DO NOT TRUST AUTOHAUS LOS GATOS! And do not trust Karen in particular, she will lie to you, break her promises and then cop an attitude when you doubt her. WEAK!! **** UPDATE **** After seeing Tony's reply, I contacted him to discuss the unfortunate situation. He seems very genuine in his desire to rebuild his reputation and he gladly and promptly mailed me a check for the $300 that Karen had cheated me out of. Though that doesn't remedy all the difficulties I encountered there, I am convinced that Tony has the right attitude and a real desire to satisfy customers. I feel safe in recommending his mechanic services. As long as Tony is involved in the business (as he wasn't during my ordeal), you can be confident you will be taken care of. I have a 1985 Mercedes 190E that, aside from a few minor signs of wear and tear, is in factory condition. At the time of this review, she wasn't even at 98,000 miles yet. We started taking my car to Tony at Autohaus because my dad used to have his 300TD wagon serviced there before he sold it. Up until a few years ago, Tony did a good enough job that my dad never had reason to comment, but within the past few years things have just become unacceptable. His shop is filthy and messy, and several of those cars on his lot haven't moved in years. He also dropped one of the nuts for my air filter down into the engine compartment and didn't fish it out. We have also found bags of parts from other cars in my engine compartment, as well as dirty paper towels that had fallen below the eingine. My car's most recent, and last, trip to this mechanic was the worst. I dropped her off the night before to have a problem with idling too low when cold diagnosed. Not only did he ask $700 for a new cold idle control valve and $600 for labor, he also told me that my car had been hit and damaged. He told us that someone had pulled into his lot during the night and hit my car... which would have been hard, given where I left it. The total repairs were $6000 of bodywork to replace both of the driver's side doors, and we decided not to have him replace the part. He covered only part of the repair cost, claiming it wasn't his fault. We ended up finding a working cold idle control valve in the junk yard for $120, and put it in ourselves in less than an hour. Now my car runs fine and she's back to pre-accident condition, but she's never going back to Autohaus. Too dangerous, too expensive, and Tony doesn't really seem to care about his female customers. I can't stand it when mechanics leave parts in my car, and don't clean up properly after themselves. read more

I dropped my Mercedes off there last Friday morning to get an estimate on a valve job, tune up/oil change and to see why the brakes are grinding on the front passenger side. It is now Thursday at 11:55am and after many attempts to get in touch with someone who knows what's going on with my car, I finally got an estimate. I have been trying for the past 3 days to get ahold of "Tony" via the switchboard operator, Al and a few other people. I was told "Tony" was the only person who knew what was going on with it. Finally I get ahold of "Tony" yesterday to be told that he did not know anything about it then proceeded to ask me when did I drop it off. I have decided to go pick the car up and take it to someplace else due to the poor service level they have provided me. Was also told it's easier for me to call "Tony" then it would be for him to call me. The first signs of the runaround, I would run away!! read more

Tony is a good and honest man and knows his work well. I met him by quincidence when I had to stop at his shop after Aamco in Santa Clara broke my engine and transmission in one wrong move. They took out the transmission fluid and mistakenly put it in my engine. The input pipe for both are very close on a 2005 Mercedes e320 and unless you remove the air filter housing you can't see the transmission input pipe.. Anyway this happened right before new year, and Tony helped fix the car for $900. Aamco on the other hand had told me the car needed a transmission at $3800. Tony diagnosed a bad speed sensor and fixed it right. He also helped me with the engine. Thank you, Tony. read more
