Scammy. They are not transparent with their pricing and try to surprise charge you after you've already left your car with them. They were trying to charge $195 for having performed no services for my vehicle. My Mini Cooper Sunroof had issues and was stuck open so I brought it into Shan Auto, they were unable to fix it or close the sunroof whatsoever but still wanted to charge $195 just for having looked into it, not actually fixing it. The skinny: My new favorite mechanic/auto shop to get our cars serviced! Honest, fair, reasonable prices, quality work and a great conversationalist. I met Taran last summer, as a coincidence, when I was getting my Prius' hybrid battery fixed next door by Faraj and his team at San Jose Hybrid Battery (also great business!). At that time, I needed to get an oil change and some cosmetic work done on my wife's car and got it done by Taran. Fast forward, my ABS light came on my Prius. I was hearing a fluttering sound from the front right wheel. I also needed to get an oil change on my car and get the 90K service on my wife's car. Communicated with Taran via phone and email given the shelter-in-place ordinance. He was very responsive. ABS light/fluttering sound issue and oil change, both fixed in an hour. Discussed what all needed to be done for my wife's car's major service. I usually pamper my cars and like to buy my own parts or order the best parts. Taran was totally open to me using my parts where I can and also offered his expertise and recommendations where he thought I should use an OEM or a better part, which I loved! Can't wait to have my wife's car all tuned up so she can drive it worry-free for another few thousand miles! Update #3: Finally got hold of the owner and brought in my car the next day. He was much nicer and understanding than the previous person in past communication. He tested out the car but shows there was nothing wrong with the alternator (despite what the other shop informed me). Suggested to bring my car in the next few days and retest again. I think it would be better to just have the alternator go through warranty repair but I guess we'll see what happens next week. Update #1: I called after two weeks to follow up. Same person answered the phone and told me to call next week. I asked why since he told me the owner would be back from his vacation, He didn't give me a clear answer and just told me the owner will be back next week and hanged up on me. Update #2 : Called backed the week after (this have been a total of three weeks now). Same guy answered and told me to call next week (AGAIN). I told him I called to follow up for the past three weeks and they can't keep pushing me away. I've asked for them to give me an email or some way to reach directly with the owner. The same guy mumbled and told me to follow up this Thurs. If they're going to keep pushing me I'll have no choice but file a claim if they won't resolve the improper work they did with the alternator on my car. I originally brought my car in Aug to have the alternator replaced and wanted to go with OEM part. I gave this place a go because my alternator was failing and 1) they were close by work 2) still open to drop my car 3) seems that they had reliable reviews. They were able to get it replaced the next day and seems to work fine, until just a few days ago there were a lot of issues going on the engine so I brought it to another shop for them to do a diagnostic. Turns out that the alternator that was installed was NOT compatible with my car and was generating higher voltage which is the reason it's going haywire with the system. I called the Shan Auto Service to discuss about service issue they did with the alternator, and the gentleman on the phone told me to bring the car over before 5PM so they can look at it. Got there around 4PM and the person there was not supportive at all or even attempted to examine my car. He told me that I have to discuss this issue with the owner, which apparently he's on vacation overseas for two weeks and there not even anyone in that shop (including himself) that can help resolve the issue or even try to escalate it. All he told me to "just come back around two week". Didn't even want to take down my information and when I asked how is going to help escalate it (eventually he just took out a pad of paper and had me scribble my number). I've paid for an OEM part which cost a lot and the fact they installed the wrong model... who knows how much damage it caused on my car. That day left me very stressed. All I want is to find a resolution and have this resolved ASAP and have the correct and compatible model installed (which should have been in the first place). At this time no one have contacted me and my experience still stands. read more

As Shan's shop is within a walking distance from my house, I used to go there for all my car repairs and had positive experience. However, after my last visit I will definitely never come back again. I dropped off my car for a minor repair. The problem was taken care of within a day but next day when I picked up my car and drove off, I realized that my car smelled like smoke, and had garbage, cigarette buds, and someone's clothes in it. Once I got home and inspected the car, I realized that the back seat was soiled (and still is since I was not able to fully clean it) and a package with face masks was missing; I also found some fragrance packages in the car, as if someone was trying to mask the smell but forgot to clean up. I have no idea what happened. I can imagine that either the mechanic did this but did not remember to clean up or he left the car unlocked overnight and someone decided to spend time in my car. Either way, I am not returning. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but at the same time, I wouldn't want this to happen to anyone else. read more

My car had a nagging problem with the rear wheel, then the brakes, then the bearings, etc. The owner at Shan was very patient with me and took interest in solving these issues. He always responded to me right away on the phone and gave me an appointment in the next hour until my issue was resolved. He is polite and respectful. Shan did three oil changes today for three of our cars. I was able to bring in my own oil, filter, and parts. He also pumped up my tire pressure and didn't really try to upsell me anything except for breaks. I get it, everyone's gotta eat, but after politely saying no he also respected the choice. Anyhow, he does a good job quickly when it comes to oil changes. Very reasonable on prices. Thank you for staying one hour extra past his regular closing hours to work on our cars. Let me be fair - the service is OK. I walked in for an oil change, it was done in less than half an hour. But for everything else - just like the other comment from Paul C said (should have taken his comment more seriously before I came to this place) - dishonest owner; he has no respect for customers, and probably doesn't expect any return customers. If you are attracted to this place by the Groupon deal, please think twice. It's nothing but a scam. Basically, you pay $19 up front to Groupon (supposively for a "$68 service"), and you get $19 off from the high list prices (which are definitely NOT attractive for the service they provide, compare to other shops in the area). Same as what Paul C mentioned in his comment, the owner said the $68 service include a "$50 vehicle check up fee" which is actually free everywhere else. In the end, you pay the total high price, with no discount, no extra service, nothing. At the end of the service, I asked for a detailed printout like from other shops - part, labor, tax, extra, etc. What I got was what he typed right in front of me - basically his full price (without any details), minus $19 (which I already paid to Groupon). This is a total scam and I'm going to report him to BBB. Summary - unless you don't care about how much you pay for a service, avoid this dishonest shop. read more

My friends suggested me this place so I didn't hesitate and even brought here my husband's car a few months ago. He charged us over $600 for breaks and the window in my car. He apparently didn't fix the car's alignment and the quality of his work with a window you can judge by looking at the image below. Now after just three months this window doesn't even close. This is exactly what I wanted to be fixed but I am not sure if he even tried. As far as my husband's car, he had a problem with his AC unit, and Shan told him that the car is old. He is right, it is old but still fixable. The staff also was very terrible with COVID safety regulations wearing no masks in the room full of people. My Honda Accord Catalytic Converter was stolen along with the O2 sensor and I got it towed to his shop. These catalytic converters are very expensive to replace. Mr. Taranjeet Singh replaced it at a reasonable price. It would have cost much more if I had taken it to some other shop, I did verify by calling up a few other places. Only downside is I had to keep it parked at his shop for a week(inconvenience for him) till the part arrived. But the $$ savings was worth the wait.
