In my case on this occasion, I presumed that I needed my Rear Shocks & Struts replaced. That's why I'm a software engineer and not a mechanical one, wink-wink! Shocks were fine in my mechanic's professional opinion, making fine adjustments will suffice. He took his time to examine the car and take a test drive, decided to tighten the spare and perform some other minor tweaking. No charge! Did you get that? No charge! Speaking of tire pressure off-road, you gotta know when to air down. Same with life, when you find yourself anxious with issues piling up, air down the pressure and seek a solution you can trust. If you find yourself becoming stuck at any time, on sand or dirt, even with the transmission in low gear, you can release additional air to increase grip. Allegorically speaking, let Genadi diagnose your vehicle and advise you onto correct path, so your mental pressure can be released. Just remember that low tire pressure and low speeds go together, so take it slow. This Auto Repair shop has been really earning its reputation because the owner cares about his customers. For many years I know the owner and his personality, and I wish all people who come here may trust that work was done to the vehicle with the faith of repair quality, and all parts that replaced and the fair charges for work well done. But you have to make an appointment in case you have to bring your car for repair unless it is not an emergency. BTW, his employee is very knowledgeable mechanic about auto repair (he has Bachelor degree in engineering). He treats customer's vehicle very well. read more

They offer 24 hour drop off so you can leave your vehicle over the weekend or after hours. The service is really quick and he offered next day service for replacing my starter. Gena really knows his stuff and is able to get a really good price on a lot of parts. He is really selective about what suppliers he works with. The price for replacing my starter included a 2 year warranty for the part AND labor. He charged like $70.00/hour which isn't bad. Don't expect a fancy Keurig coffee machine, friendly receptionist, or an HDTV in the store. Gene pretty much handles all the orders himself and the store is also his office, tiny and unkempt. Nope, no frills here but it keeps the costs low so I don't mind. read more

Gena is knowledgeable, professional, efficient, and affordable. My family and I have been taking our cars to him for a while now, and the service is always consistent. For example, yesterday I thought something was odd with my brakes. I called Gena, he was in, and told me to come by. I did, he got into my car and drove it for 3 minutes. Getting out, he confirmed - front brakes. "Best case scenario - $230, worst case scenario - $370," he said. Then drove me home, despite my protests that I can walk back as I live close by. Next day Gena called earlier than promised, told me that the car is ready, we got away with $230, he rotated the tires for free, and pulled a nail out of one of the tires, fixing it. For an extra $10. Could I possibly ask more from a mechanic? I think not. Recommend with no reservation. read more

Save yourself the headache and bring your car here! My parents have been going to Gennadi for a long time and my dad would take my car in as well whenever it had issues. Gennadi is very knowledgeable when it comes to cars and genuinely cares to get your car fixed. This is a rare combination noways.. finding a mechanic that has your best interest at heart and not trying to empty out your wallet. I have previously called the shop for assistance when my car would randomly start acting up and i was too scared to drive it any further. I'm no car person. I needed to get my catalytic convertor replaced, and truthfully I don't even really know what that is. Something having to do with the muffler/exhaust. Whatever. One of my coworkers recommended this guy to me, and I'm DEFINITELY glad he did. Honda Dealership estimate: $1600 This place: $400 75% off! It's like I got an awesome Groupon! Sure, his place doesn't look pretty, but you can't put a price on HONESTY. Knowing that some guy isn't dropping crazy auto-repair terminology to get into my wallet is a nice change, and invaluable. I have been going to A2Z for 8+ years and 3 cars now. Gena is skilled, honest and reliable - about the three qualities a mechanic needs to have. He will never overcharge for the parts or the labor and won't trick you into thinking something is wrong with the car when everything is okay, unlike those "30 point inspections" at chain car shops. You will always get a breakdown of the cost, and in many cases he will test a simpler fix before attempting or buying parts for the more costly solution. Great! It is obvious he enjoys what he does. He is interested in figuring out the root cause. In our case the computer was not responding, and he went through components, one-by-one, until he found the cause (another mechanic did not insert some sensor fully). I took my 2000 Jetta here during the time I worked in Los Gatos. There is a guy named Gena that works at (runs?) the shop, and two of the Russian women at my office had highly recommended him. I never had any major work done here: Just the regular oil and filter changes, and the battery needed to be replaced. The woman at the counter and Gena were both friendly, and things were always done when they were supposed to be. Gena was also kind enough to drop me off and pick me up at the office when I left my car there. Since I've never had any major work here, I can't really make an estimation as to their competence. Called to that place and got a quote for AC compressor, price was not cheap and not too expensive, got my car in, mechanic told me I have to wait for 6-7 days because he was very busy at the moment with other cars and he has only 1 or 2 extra people who works at the shop, anyways I waited and turned in in 7 days my car. Car repaired I was happy, my AC was working fine, so no complains, after 2 weeks I started to hear little noise, it was on and off, when I turned on AC it was gone. I called to the shop, didn't really understand what he said, I took my car to the shop, Gennadii who was fixing it said my car has high mileage and anything could happen, AC compressor looks fine. Also he mentioned drive for few months and let me know, I said ok cool. So the sound was not going away and I drove for another 5 months, sounds started to be more rough. But he mentioned I have 12 months warranty, I checked my paperwork just yesterday and small print says (12k miles) so I was tricked and my mileage exceeded. My warranty revoked already. I went to another shop and they checked it and said I need new AC compressor. So long story short, A2Z place replaced my original part to Aftermarker cheap part and charged me as for Original German part! Yesterday my car broke down on Highway 17 during construction and crazy traffic. My car was smoking, so I pulled over immediately. CalTrans later came by and asked me to move my car about 20 feet back. I turned the car on, and it died about a second later. Fortunately, the car was able to roll back naturally and I got it to where CalTrans wanted it. Due to the heavy traffic, I had quite a while before the tow truck came. During that time, I did some research on Yelp and wrote down a few auto places in the Los Gatos area that got good reviews. I called one of them, and it took a while to answer before the person told me to call back in 10 minutes. That's when I decided to also check out the Campbell area, and A2Z came up. I called and Gena was immediately asking me questions to try and help diagnose the potential problems. He seemed friendly on the phone and genuinely helpful, and he was willing to set realistic expectations about how long it might take to repair, especially with the holidays coming up. Between his helpfulness and friendliness on the phone, the Yelp reviews, and being open until 8pm I decided to bring it in and see what he could do. I arrived about 5:30pm, and within minutes, he was running diagnostics and explaining to me exactly what the problem was. He still didn't know -why- the problem happened. However, he was able to explain to me why the smoke was happening, why it didn't happen in previous situations (even though the problem has existed for weeks or months), and he knew what to look for to diagnose the problem further. I left the car with him, and at 8:05pm last night, he called to tell me it was repaired and I could pick it up in the morning when they open. This morning (about an hour ago), I picked it up. It doesn't smoke. :) And as far as cost goes, while I won't reveal exactly what I paid (because I'm not sure he wants EVERYBODY expecting a ridiculously low deal), I will say that I was expecting to pay hundreds of dollars but instead the final charge was so ridiculously low that it sealed the deal and caused me to make writing this Yelp review my *first* priority as soon as I got home. Let's just say I think it cost him more to do the diagnostics and repair than what he charged me. And he's won business and referrals for life, so it's probably a good investment on his part. :) I'll be referring people to A2Z for years to come. The entire experience was top-notch, professional, high-integrity, friendly, and speedy. read more

I've been bringing our car to Gennady now for over 1.5 years on recommendation of a friend and I'm so glad I listened to that friend! Gennady is one of those rare mechanics who takes the time to explain why you do, or often do not, need a repair so that you really understand what's going on with your car. Whenever I get our oil changed they always check our tires and fix little things I'd never noticed. One time they fixed a rear light that I hadn't even noticed and just included it in the price of the oil change. After taking my car to several mechanics he gave me the best price I could find on sourcing and fitting four tires. After an unfortunate breakdown while out of a town, another garage warned us about a lot of things they felt we needed to change - fluids, battery etc. I took th car over to Gennady for a second opinion - he checked it out at no cost and informed us we really didn't need to change anything except the power steering fluid and told us to come back in six months to check the rest. Whenever I call him about an issue he always tells me to drop it by at my convenience and he takes time to drive the car to feel out the problem himself before then taking it in to the shop where he fully inspects it to give an honest assessment. This review is long overdue. My family and I have been coming to this shop for close to 10 years now. Gena is great to deal with. Like other people have said the quality of work is top notch and prices are very fair. I brought my car in yesterday at 4pm to have a serpentine belt replaced. Gena finished all the work the same day and I picked my car up at 7pm. It's hard to find a good shop let alone one that charges fair prices and gets the job done in a timely manner. I went with there for inspection of my suspension which I was ready to repair (Nissan Quest 2004). I was told at another place to do that and already got a quota. Here after the test-drive and inspection I was told that the real cause is a condition of my front tires (to be replaced). Previous job on suspension was done at this same shop. They don't want just to make money on you but really want to do a good job in the first place. read more

Don't expect a sunny attitude or a lavish waiting room. Do expect honesty and someone who knows what they're doing. I would say the latter is way more important than having a snake oil salesman pretending to be your best friend. The owner of this place is the most honest mechanic I've met. In fact, I'm pretty sure he's the only honest mechanic I've met. Wish I had come here originally before I decided to get work done at the dealership for another issue which pretty much cost half a month's salary. I would minus a star for my (above mentioned) criticism of this place, but honestly, what I really care about is what's done to my car, how it's done, and the price that's charged; and for that, hands down I have to give this place 5 stars. The diagnostic was free of charge (though I'm not sure this would always be the case), and I feel like all around I saved a whole lotta money coming here, and on top of that, the problem on my car was fixed. read more
