I wanted to trust this business. At least they mentioned that they would have to charge me the time to update their computers to identify an error fault for emissions fail---and wouldnt provide a ballpark (yes ballpark) estimate for an estimate. "Well, you know those are expensive cars..." is not what I was hoping for. I came here for a prepurchase inspection for a private sale car I was considering. Glen was very helpful and worked with me to get me in the same day. He took me for a ride along to test the car and told me what he was looking for. Then we went back to the garage where he and Min looked everything over. Again, they showed me exactly what they were checking and wrote up a detailed summary of everything checked and any issues found, along with estimates to fix them. Stay away! Will never trust them again. They can't be serious if that's the way they wanna keep customers it's not the way they treated me. I know cars very well and not only that know what is required for a state inspection. They may lie to others but I felt the need to write a review if that says anything... such a major waste of my time I was shocked! Glenn the owner was there so its starts from the top... I made the mistake of trusting them figuring how bad could someone mess up a inspection. Well let's just say I left, went to a garage 10mins away and we laughed at the notion the car couldn't pass inspection. Rip off!!! Worst expierence at a garage ever. I broke down at the light on Fairfax County Parkway and was able to limp into their lot. They were very accommodating on replacing my transmission, but it was all downhill after that. It turns out they didn't replace the pan gasket and it's leaking. They didn't have time to do the axle seals or the rear main seal which I had asked them to do, but they had time to cross-thread the drain-plug on my oil pan which they deny having done. So they let my car leave the shop leaking three different types of fluids (oil, transmission and axle). I later went back and they replaced a catalytic converter for me and that left leaking too. JW fixed that for me when I went back and complained. Very disappointed. read more

Mechanic was to repair headlight for $99.00. When I got in the vehicle (post-repair) to drive home the battery fault light on dash board turned on. I immediately returned to shop to find out why the headlight repair was causing battery problems. After vehicle inspection, foreman told me I now needed a new alternator because oil was leaking out of the valve-cover gasket onto the alternator. Cost estimate for repair at two other automotive shops range from $1,032 to $1400. The foreman said they were not responsible for the problem that magically afflicted my car between the time they completed their work and the time I started my car. I do NOT RECOMMEND this shop for repairs. They took not responsibility for the damage. STAY AWAY. read more

Had to get an oil change and some work done recently on my 98 Accord was happy to go back to Automotive Unlimited. I've brought the car in a few times now and am so glad to have found a trustworthy, knowledgeable, experienced mechanic who doesnt charge you arm and a leg. Our family mechanic that we had gone to for 20+ years retired a couple years back so I had been going to various shops around town before finally finding Automotive Unlimited. It is conveniently-located right off of the Fairfax County Parkway and Glenn always puts the customer first and treats your car like his own. If you value honesty, fair prices, and getting your car fixed right the first time, I definitely recommended taking your car here. read more

Ridiculously bad service, way overpriced. Tried to charge me $100(!) for a regular oil change. Not synthetic. Their price on the wall was $50, but they said, oh that's only the labor price - you also need to buy the oil. I'm not that dumb. They don't call letting you know the car is ready, the people in the shop ignore you and make you stand around waiting. I won't be back. read more

See reviews for Sunoco at this address: it's the same shop. I do not recommend this shop. First time I took a car in, they did work I hadn't authorized. We negotiated. Second time, I took in a printed list of required maintenance, with tasks that had already been done elsewhere scratched out. I emphasized I only wanted the other things done. They ignored the list and re-did several things. I did not pay for them, but had to negotiate again. Later, since they're close, I thought, "I won't let them repair anything. But surely they can't foul up a safety inspection." Wrong. They pulled floor mat out with it unhooking it, ripping the hook right out. When I complained, they did nothing. Now that mat rides up under the accelerator, which would be dangerous, so I have a twisty tie holding it back. read more

I went to the Sunoco Gas Station at South Lakes Village Center when my brakes stopped working, and after a diagnostic test they decided that my vacuum pump to brake booster needed to be replaced, so my quote came out to $1400. I called Automotive Unlimited to get a second quote, and a gentleman by the name of JW suggested that I get a second opinion because he had a feeling that my car was misdiagnosed based on the age and mileage on it. After JW's team took a look at my car, they found a crack in one of the hoses, which is a much less expensive repair. The cost ended up being only $400 as opposed to the $1400 quote from the other repair shop. I am super thankful that I went to Automotive Unlimited. They were very helpful and knowledgeable and saved me a ton of money. read more

My car failed inspection requiring a $700 repair for bushing replacement and alignment. I took it to Pohanka and the bushings were found to NOT need replacing and that they NO way compromised the safety of my vehicle which then passed inspection. read more

We have used Automotive Unlimited for years and had been very pleased in the past. In the last year or so, something has changed not for the better. Everytime we take our cars in for an inspection or oil change we get a call that the cabin air filter is really dirty...their price is $60 to replace. It's a $20 part and slides in behind the glove box. We have pulled it out after declining and it's not even dirty. More disturbing is that at least 3 times, after a safety inspection or oil change is that we get the car home, it either starts running rough or throwing codes and we discover that they have pulled off a vacuum hose and it's hanging loose. No reason for this to happen with safety inspections or oil changes. Are they trying to drum up more business for themselves? So, after years going there, we won't be back. read more

This USED to be our one & only place to go for service. New management or owners have changed the entire operation. 1. We now know they have been charging us double for oil changes, 2. They recently quoted us over twice the amount than other shops quoted for an expensive repair, & even more than our dealer quoted, 3. They gave me someone else's keys one day, 4. They did an inspection & SUPPOSEDLY a 5 qt oil change (& topping off fluids, for $57), though it was never done -- even fluids were low. So they told me my car was probably leaking or burning oil. Uh, no. My new shop verified it wasn't, & the oil change had never been done. Never going back, & I hope you don't either. I would not recommend this establishment for repairs. I was charged almost $1,000 for repairs that did not remedy my problem. My car was brought back in again and kept for another two days and they could still not figure out the problem. The manager, Johnny, made other customers wait nearly 30 minutes while having a heated discussion with me (in front of them) about my car problems. At one point when his mechanic tried to politely check out a waiting customer he pushed him aside and refused to let him help the customer, aggressively telling him to get out of his way. Instead of either offering to refund some of my money spent on the repairs that did not remedy my problem or at least reassuring me that they would make it up to me somehow in the future he tried to place the blame on me in a very blaming, unprofessional manner. He is the type that makes many of us dread dealing with mechanics for fear of getting ripped off. BEWARE. In addition, the second time the car was left there my GPS went missing. read more
