I scrolled a long way through these reviews. The spread is eye popping. From one star reviews claiming they really want to give 0 and then the few five star ratings. Rarely do you see a three or four star rating. To me this screams fraudulent. Nearly all of the reviews with one star say nearly identical statements and are exactly what we have experienced. This place is a prime example of why car dealerships are so maligned in the eyes of the consumer. Love you when you are buying, shady in every way afterward. They never answer your messages, talk down to the customer, upcharge after upcharge in the service department, and tbh and subjective, really shady untrustworthy vibes off of these individuals...after purchase. Nothing but trouble . Taking it to other Honda dealers costs $100, but I recommend if you did make the mistake of purchasing from here that you take it elsewhere when you need service. I didn't buy a car from this dealership, however I have been shopping for a new car and make it a point to see dealership inventories on their lots. One thing that caught my eye were the extras this dealership tacks on aside for extras they provided in addition to the sticker .. well, I kept seeing , for example, included in the price on the sticker from Honda were fog lights for example... well guess what? The dealership has a separate sticker which added an extra $850 for ... wait for it- fog lights!!! After reading these reviews about this place ... I won't waste my time purchasing a car from here. This review is meant to describe my car buying experience at the AutoNation Honda Dealership, in Des Plaines, IL. To whom it may concern, I purchased a Honda Civic from AutoNation Honda on Saturday, November, 25th. My initial communication with the dealership was online through their website. We settled on a great price via email and verbal communication through Kim, a sales associate at the dealership. The dealership was having its holiday special black Friday sale so we expected the delay in service but we were eventually attended to by our sales person Phil. First, I brought in a Ford F-150 truck for a potential trade, but selling or trading in the truck was not my main purpose at the dealership, just purchasing a reliable Honda Civic. The appraiser at the dealership spent over 90 minutes appraising the truck and crunching the numbers only to come back to me with an extremely low price at $4,5,00 under CarMax's appraisal and $2,500-$3,500 under Muller's Honda dealership in Highland Park, which only took them 10 minutes to get me a better price. The big point here was that if AutoNation had no intention of purchasing my truck I would have appreciated if they didn't waste my time on an already long purchasing experience. I arrived at the dealership around 1 pm and left with my New Honda Civic after closing hours around 7:30 PM. Next, two days later on Monday, November 27th my mechanic looked over my new vehicle only to find an engine oil leak. I reported the leak to my salesman at the dealership and he advised me to bring it in. The service associate Spencer said that it wasn't a big enough of a problem for them to fix or give me a rental car for them to look over. The dealership completely dismissed the problem with my new car. I bought a new vehicle in order to avoid dealing with these problems that shouldn't exist. I drove the car back to my mechanic so that he could look at the car again and it continued to leak oil.  My mechanic advised me to return the car if the dealership didn't want to fix the problem. Friday, December 1st after many hours wasted trying to get the dealership to acknowledge and fix the problem, they communicated to me via phone stating that I had to come back to the dealership because they had lost my contract/documents for the car. I asked them to send me the documents via email of what they wanted me to sign but never received anything. I have all the documentation and proof of purchase that I received from the dealership. Next, I received several communications via voicemail and email stating how now they wanted to correct the leak/problem with my new car. To be honest, at this point, confidence and trust have diminished with this dealership. We had a good experience working with John Ruberry and then Michael Lawrence. However, I must say we went through the CostCo Auto Program and saved quite a bit of money. We shopped around at several different dealers and none of them could compare with the CostCo pricing. If you have a CostCo card and need a new car, we definitely recommend using the program. If you don't have a CostCo card, then it is worth joining CostCo in order to get the discounts. You'll definitely make your membership money back. Had a bad experience here when I was looking to purchase a new car. Requested a sales person and after waiting for awhile without anyone trying to at least acknowledge our presence was finally attended to. I had done research on the car I wanted before coming in so knew what I wanted and had a set price within my budget that I would offer for the vehicle. The salesman took my information down and I did a quick test drive. There were a few issues with the car that I pointed out and they said they'd look into seeing if those issues could be sorted out in their shop before purchase. When we sat down to do business he gave me a price that was higher than the sticker price once fees were included. I told him I would go for X price only. He informed me that they don't negotiate the price. I said well that new price is not within my budget. He said "hold on let me check with my boss". He then came back with a piece of paper and lower price and requested I sign the paper with this slightly lower price and "maybe" he can get the price there. I said "no" as I would not sign anything without a guarantee of what I was getting. They hadn't even corrected the cars problems yet. He pushed for me to sign and I said no. His demeanor immediately turned insulting and patronizing as if I should blindly sign my name on a random scribbling he put on a paper. He continued making smart comments because I refused to sign. He probably thought I was a random gullible guy from off the street. Actually I'm a lawyer. Signing anything without written guarantees is a fools errand and they wanted me to do this so badly. Not my first rodeo. After a few minutes of patronizing comments, I stood up and left and the manager ran up at that point as we just got out the door to try and salvage the deal but that wasn't going to happen. Definitely not coming back here for any cars again. I ended up buying an excellent vehicle at Wheels of Chicagoland. Ed the owner is AMAZING and treated me like a human and I got an excellent car out of the deal. I highly encourage you all to take your business to people who treat you with respect. If there were a way to really convey how angry I am with our last experience with this dealership I would rate them sub zero! We turned in our 2016 Leased Honda in June for a lease on a new car, and thought all was well. Then I checked my credit report to find it had gone down...why? The lease on the 2016, a car that was returned before the lease expired, was still showing as outstanding and Delinquent! Add to this several very rude letters not asking but demanding we return the car ...impossible as it was returned in June... and to add insult to injury, it seems that the car we returned was already sold to an employee of the dealership! Horrible service, nasty attitudes. Originally called in to inquire about getting some service done on my car, and the lady on the phone was very sassy. I asked about whether they stocked the part I needed to understand how long the job would take and she basically said "it takes however long it takes." After I asked again, she put me through to the "parts department" where the guy had a similar attitude. He determined that they stocked the part I needed so I asked how long the job would take on average. He went with a similar "takes what it takes" type comment. I figured it might be that the phone service isn't great and they give preference to in-store customers, so I booked an appointment. Turns out booking an appointment is a waste of your time because they don't honor it anyway. When I got there, I was ignored until I asked if I would be helped at which point the representative told me to wait because it was a busy time. I waited for something like 15 minutes and when I was finally acknowledged, the guy seemed so unhappy to even consider servicing my car. When he was told that this was the first time my car has been there, he sighed about having to input the car's information into their system as if his job was such a hassle. At that point, it was clear that this place was not going to service the car with any care, so I left. No point in being charged way too much for poor service and surly attitudes. This dealer would have gotten a perfect 5 star rating from me had I stopped at the purchase and financing. I purchased a 2014 Porsche Panamera from them and the sales and financing was the most convenient I've ever experienced. The service has been lack luster at best. I purchased a 12month bumper to bumper warranty and was told by finance to bring it back if anything needed to be done within that time. I've received every excuse under the sun for substandard service. I dropped the car off to have the air conditioner condenser replaced, oil change and front plate bracket put on...and was told it would be ready in 48hrs. 10dys later I got my car back, no oil change and no front bracket. Not to mention that my milage in and out is listed as 87,942. However, when I got the car back the milage read 89,011!! Of course no one seemed to know anything about that. I ended up just calling Porsche to get the oil changed and bracket placed on. (It should be noted that I was informed that the car shouldn't have been sold to me without the front plate bracket, due to that being illegal in the state of Illinois). WOW! Where do I even begin. AutoNation Honda O'Hare, you all made my FIRST car buying experience amazing. There are so many words that I could say. I 100% am so happy I decided one Tuesday evening to stop on by and see a Honda Fit. When we first arrived, we were greeted with "Hellos!" The show room was super clean, professional and you could tell people were excited to be there. We waited at a table for a very short time and were greeted by one of the most amazing person I have ever met. MARY! Mary is a GEM! I seriously can't even find words to describe how truly blessed I am to have met Mary. She was warm, kind and greeted us as if we were family! She was not a pushy salesperson who just wanted to sell me a car. I have been to other dealerships where they don't get the chance to get to know you or what you want to accomplish when you are there. SHE did. Mary went above and beyond anything I have experienced in my life. I have worked in customer service for 12 years and the level of professionalism, caring and truly listening was incredible. We all took a test drive in a 2020 Honda Fit. It was amazing. Mary was not pushing any sales at any time. She was creating a genuine friendship. She took the time that Tuesday evening to look at the car, answer many questions, options for pay plans etc. She did not rush us at ANY point. We made an appointment to come back on Friday. I was so excited for Friday! I asked her if we could take a look at one of the used Honda Fits. We took a look and I really felt that the new car I had test drove on the previous Tuesday evening was for sure mine. Done and done I bought my first car which was a BIG thing and a BIG goal for me to accomplish. I bought a new 2020 Honda Fit and I have been loving it since then. It's not just a car to me, it was bought with the biggest friendships I left with from Honda AutoNation. Nick, in financing, did an excellent job with speaking with me about all of the different coverage options and took the time to go into detail. He made sure that I had all of my questions answered. He was professional and had a personality of caring and wanting to help. At the end of the day, the atmosphere and the kindness of everyone made me want to stay!! The day of buying your car is long but it didn't feel like it at all. The level of customer service here is incredible. I will be taking this to the highest possible rank at corporate. Games; Lies and Deception! I went onto TrueCar to check out Honda CRVs and suddenly was bombarded with calls and texts from car dealers. One was from AutoNation Honda O'Hare's internet general manager: Mikey. Over the next few days; he repeatedly kept contactIng me. Last Saturday, he again called and assured me the price for a 2020 Honda CRV EX was roughly $25,500. I confirmed again this was for the EX and he told me it was; that the out the door price on an LX was about $21,500. Both prices were "complete" except for tax and title. I asked him to email me the deal and I'd be in later. He never sent it; but reached out again a couple of days later when I was on TrueCar again. Last night, my wife and I went into the store. The salesman showed us the car and after some "back and forth" he came down to his final, take it or leave it price of $27;500. I mentioned that TrueCar showed a lower price. He said prices on TrueCar are out of date; not relevant; are national and not local; etc., etc., etc. I then told him that "Mikey" from his dealership had assured me I could have the car at $25,500. The sales rep asked my phone number and checked this "story" on the store computer. He kind of chuckled and admitted that Mikey had played the old bait and switch game to get me to come in. Then asked what price would I take the car. Why would I want to buy a car from this dealership at ANY price? You cannot be trusted: you are liars and cheats; AND, you have no shame when caught. My car was purchased here and I have all but the best things to say. However, the service department is the complete opposite. No one cares to greet you and ask if you need help. Kim, the service receptionist that helped to start the service process, was unresponsive to calls/texts when asked for an update for pickup on an oil change. The lack of communication is what is the most upsetting as a customer. I hope they will review their process and improve training with their employees. read more

The women "manager" here is terrible and she was looking to swindle us, talked robotic like she memorized her swindle well. Lied to our faces multiple times (I guess that's her job). Couldn't even get her to give me the OTD price, she kept avoiding it. We didn't really want to argue with these people so we just walked out. Avoid this place, you won't get a good deal. It was pretty clear my car had no sort of professional inspection as the next day after I purchased my vehicle had multiple codes. Was trying to upsell me on a clear coat that was already included. Told him was not interested and he said "I'll be right back" and never came lol.. Reeks of unprofessionalism and they do not care if they have to cut corners... my car had to be shipped to vw dealer cuz they couldn't work on it. Well this was very disappointing. Went on their website last night and saw the Civic hatchback that I want to purchase. I did the chat thing on line and asked the young lady if I can come in and test drive it by myself the following morning. She said no problems come on in. I went in and spoke with one of the sales people and told her I'm here to take my solo test drive and she asked her manager who refused to let me drive it alone. I know about the recent story of the guy who gave his license to test drive a Maserati and then stole it but come on this is a Civic. The sales person at Honda on Grand in Elmhurst named Daniel told me I can certainly drive it by myself if I wish to. No hassle, real customer service focused. I like to test drive by myself so that I don't have distractions from sales people's conversations and pointing this out and pointing that out etcetera. I had several emails from the general manager. He claimed that he is a transparent dealer. Hahahahaha as I learned going to the dealer the dealership is full of liars and conniving cheating disrespectful con artists an experts at smoke and mirrors. In fact if you could find every negative word possible for the liars and pitiful behavior of humans, that I spoke to or emailed at this dealership; you could not find enough words. The salesman and the moron that supposedly checks the credit claimed even as they lied multiple times continued to tell me they are transparent and honest. A deal for the car was made by email. The price for the car and the 2.9 % financing agreed upon as long as the credit was approved. The buyer a single Mom and her Mom co-signer. I was there only for guidance. Upon arriving at the dealer, the lying salesman stated that the price is $499more than agreed email pricing!! That I must pay $499 for an appearance package. This type of "add on" is absolutely detested by Edmunds an online resource whose articles can help prospective car buyers. I cannot stand this kind of rip off add on which is only there for the dealer to steal your hard earned money! So much for transparency and honesty. Next was, the daughter could not buy the car at all!! Only the Mom! Of course, Mom was co-signing to help the daughter establish credit. So we were not interested. The financial credit rep moron than said, I'll go back an talk to Honda Finance. This time he came back and said the daughter and Mom can have both names on the title as owners BUT only if you agree to pay 7.9%. So much for honesty again. Remember he already stated the daughters name could Not be on the title. What happened to 2.9%? Mom's credit already approved at 2.9%. Smoke and mirrors. Next I went to corner of the dealer and made a phone call to another car dealer. Naturally the financial moron con man was angry and called me rude. Haha. He again repeated his being honest and transparent. After all this hassle, he then said what do you want to pay for the car? I want the deal agreed upon in the email. So after all the lies, insults and attempts to cheat failed; the dealer NOW says, Both the daughters name and the Mom's name can be on the contract as owners and you can have the 2.9 % financing! They had to have the $499 more than the internet price quoted. They would not change that. My advice is bring a Trial Lawyer, A Criminal Lawyer, and a Judge if you go there. It took them 4 hours to call me back to pick my car up after i had to speak with the Director of Service in order to get through. I will never being my car there again! I have been taking my wife's CRV here for all maintenance and repairs for close to 10 years and have been very satisfied with the place until recently. My last appointment was for a routine oil change and tire rotation. When I got there at 8am for my 8am appointment the service writer said I was due for a coolant flush. I told him I'd have to bring it back another time as I didn't have time during this visit for anything else. He then told me it would be done by 9:00. As 10:00 approached I had to hunt him down to inquire about my vehicle. He told me I didn't reply to his texts about the additional $900 in work I needed. I reminded him that I didn't have time for anything during this visit other than what I brought it in for and why didn't he walk 20 feet to tell me. He replied that he was busy and he would get the paperwork ready as the vehicle was completed. As 11:00 came I had to hunt him down again. He prepared the paperwork and told me to insert my credit card in for payment, when I did I noticed he charged me double what it should have been. After another 15 minutes it was finally over. Part of the $900 of work they said I needed was a 4 wheel alignment. I told him I just had 4 new tires installed and aligned and I would take it back where I bought them. ( they said it was fine by the way). I always get a customer satisfaction survey by email and phone after my visits. The day after my visit I got no less than 3 texts and emails pre survey from 2 different service managers stating to call them if I wasn't going to give a excellent rating. I called Ray Eichenlaub and told him of my experience. He said he would look into it. I never heard from him again. I kept inquiring about getting the survey that I never received and got stonewalled. Put in a complaint with Honda and was given a case number. Told them of my experience and that after purchasing 3 Hondas this would be my last due to their lack of customer service. Their reply was "thanks for letting us know, your case is now closed ". The moral of the story is, if you're into sado masocism this is the place for you. If not avoid this place like the bubonic plague! read more

After spending a good portion of the day securing the car and price I wanted, a $399 set of Mud Guards mysteriously appeared on my final bill. At this point in the transaction, I was just too tired to raise hell about it, but it really makes my blood boil ex post facto, and I would not recommend this dealership to anyone. Not to mention the guards are listed at $104 on the Build-A-Honda website. Hopefully others will learn from my mistake. I really can't imagine going to work every day where the emphasis of your job description is to try to deceive customers. Don't know how these guys look themselves in the mirror each day. This is without a doubt the worst type of dealer in the world. They pulled every dealer game they could on me and refused to give me a final quote until I was there two hours. They pretended to misplace the keys to my trade in to keep me there longer. I explained to the salesman that I did not want to haggle just give your your price but he played me. I also noticed the rip off mark ups on all the add on items like mud flaps and other after market items added to the sticker of many cars on the showroom. I went down the road to another Honda dealer and bought a car in 35 minutes all paperwork and trade in appraisal done. No financing was involved but that was still fast. This happened a few years ago. I wasn't a Yelper then so I didn't write a review until now. I went to their place to check out their cars. I wasn't ready to buy just yet but I know I will be buying within a month. A salesman approached me and initially was very friendly, showed me around, and was generally helpful... until I told him I'm not buying that day. His overall demeanor changed. He then said "You're not buying? I thought you told me you're ready to buy now? Well, that was a waste of time." Wtf. I was floored. Needless to say, I noped out of there and never came back. Even though their business was a mile away from my place, I never, ever go to them for anything, not even for a key chain. Horrible, horrible customer service in my opinion. 1) I tried buying here a couple times, but three out of three times the sales Rep's quotations were significantly higher than quotes I got from Honda dealers closer to Chicago. I also got the usual lies that their service manager would not allow the quote to go too low. There isn't any such thing as too low. 2) Service. This is a doozy. Again this matters more about the repairs associate you discuss shop with. Some give you the BS and try to up sell you to all kinds of crap you don't need. In this arena, I've been taken for a ride 50% of the time, buying services I didn't need. Stuff that Jiffy Lube could've done for me for A LOT less money. I remember one stupid occasion when they told me a part in the wheel well needed to be changed. As far as their technician knew, there was a piece that needed to be repaired and he thought he knew exactly what it was. They checked stock and knew they had one in stock per the computer. The work would take a couple hours since the wheels had to be removed and parts on the car had to be removed to give more space to look in. When the time came to replace the part, they went to the parts area and realized the part they needed was a different part and the one they saw on the computer was not on the shelf. WTF. Waited 4 and 1/2 hours, three hours they took to find out all this info. The last hour, they just waited for me to call in. I don't live out here, I was quoted two hours on that particular day. So, I sat and waited at a pub nearby. I call in and they tell me the work was completed. I get there and then the rep I originally worked with comes out and explains that the tech made a mistake and another part is needed, he thinks. They ask when I can come back and give them the same amount of time. There was a half ass-ed apology, just not genuine. I think their mechanics charge is a hundred something dollars per hour. I should've been paid for the time wasted. They told me the part was ordered and to call back for an appointment. I called back and after many conversations they wouldn't tell me for sure if they had the part in stock, rather to come back and see. I took my business elsewhere. I used to like to come here only for oil changes, especially on weekends. They used to have great garage hours, I think they were open till midnight weekdays and open some of the weekend including Sunday. Due to the economy this has changed. With garage work they offered a free car wash. The car wash could be best described by driving your car through a bird bath. Bird crap still intact. Of the true life examples I've offered, this doesn't have to happen in the future and really could be associated to sucky employees / staff. Despite the negative reviews I decided to give them a try since they are sort of near my house and I didn't see negative reviews for the parts department. I first went to O'Hare Honda to pick up the parts because I called ahead of time and they said they had the wiper cap I needed and Bob Rorhman Honda in Schaumburg did not have it in stock. But when I arrived it was the wrong part so I had to order it and come pick it up in a couple days. All special order parts have to be paid for in advance. To make a long story short, the parts dept ordered the wrong part (they gave me the wiper cap for the passenger wiper blade and not the driver wiper blade) despite me explaining to them over and over and even showing them photos and pointing out the part in their book. I called to let them know so they could make it right, they did not say they were sorry - instead they said "sometimes it happens". There are no returns on special ordered parts so their mistake is fine to them but it costs me money and time. The part only cost like $3 so I would have been fine to buy the right part if they just said they were sorry and maybe acted like they cared. If I could give zero stars, I would. This place has the worst customer service from any dealership I've ever been to. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! We came in to look at a couple of certified pre-owned cars, and no one came over to help us. A young lady approached us and said she'd find someone to help, even though there are no other customers and a handful of representatives standing around. Fifteen minutes later, a young woman named Helen approaches us and asks what we were interested in. We provided some basic information and told her that we just wanted to see the car before we get too involved. She starts to badger us for more personal information with a ridiculous ghetto attitude while rolling her eyes and exhaling deeply. Very professional. Her lazy demeanor and constant attitude was shocking and seemed as if she was doing us a favor. We dealt with this for another 15 minutes and decided that we were done when she said, "UHH... Were you guys just TOO TIRED from visiting other dealerships that you're TOO BUSY?" We spoke to her manager as she stood next to us, and we make it clear that we will never buy a Honda here and will take our 2010 Honda to be serviced elsewhere. As we walk away Helen starts yelling at her manager with whatever ridiculous reason for speaking to us the way she did. Shame on you, AutoNation Honda. This place is trashy, but I'm sure you can already gather that from all the other bad reviews. read more

Stay away from this place - it oozes dishonest and disrespectful! I had made a few phone calls and began to negotiate on a particular car. The salesman I worked with was Anatoly (Al) P. (he used to be at Carrs Honda). Finally, after several call backs from him "checking in" on me and the status of my car purchase, I called back on Saturday afternoon to see if the car was still available. When I learned that it was, I told him I would drive right over for a test drive. Prior to hanging up, I told "Al" I'd see him in about 20-30 minutes. So I arranged for childcare for my youngest kids and took my oldest with me. When we showed up to the dealership, Al greeted me and we walked off into the parking lot together, presumably to test drive this very car I came out to see. 10 seconds later he turned and said, "oh, I think that car just sold." I expressed my utter disbelief that car which had been there 20 minutes earlier sold and disappeared off the lot so quickly. He went to "double check" and when he came out informed me that in that 20 minute period the "owner's wife" borrowed the car for the weekend. Unbelievable! Obviously the car wasn't there when I called and this prick just didn't value my time enough to actually check on it. The place is good except for this one sales person Harvey. He is not really helping us and being rude. Me and my brother were just trying to negotiate, not low balling but his tone was really annoyed. We have the right to know all the fees and total breakdown of everything cuz we will buy it. I loved this dealership from the day I bought my car and always swore I would go back, but not now. I bought a used civic paid CASH for it at the time, and with normal wear and tear I had a klunking noise that I wanted to get checked out. So I take the car in and after buying alot of parts and having my car serviced there over the last 2 years, they had the audacity to tell me they were going to charge me to look at my car, and like $85 bucks!! REALLY??!! Hey O'Hare Honda it's not like you haven't made a lot of money off me already..so now this?? Ok so I know a lot of places to that, but when you haven't in the last 2 years and all of a sudden you want to charge me for it? Honestly the joke is on you O'Hare Honda...because that left such a bad taste in my mouth that I will not return when it's time to buy a new car or trade mine in. I also this time waited for 10 minutes before I was even acknowledged. The service advisor they had there Ryan made that whole service department and now he is gone, and I can see why. I also was so frustrated and the service advisor procceeded to talk to me about his problems and say "well I got my problems too" my cars has this and that. I am not trying to sound mean, but what the heck does that have to do with me? Don't try to dumbdown the issue I am having with my car and bring yourself into it. Wait times for service are always horrendous and the service staff just makes excuses. It doesn't matter if you have an appointment or not. A simple oil change is an all day affair. Unless you have a warranty or a service package for a car you bought here, GO ANYWHERE ELSE! Make plans with someone else with a car or you will be sitting in their waiting area all day long. read more

I am not impressed. This dealership seems to love NOT giving written quotes for their cars. They seem to enjoy selling cars with expensive add-ons ( they will happily force a $250 set of wheel locks onto their cars. funny, wheel locks run around $25) read more
