My only regret about this place was that I wish I had come sooner. I've suffered from acne all of my life, but it was only until I hit 20 that it became increasingly worse. The hormonal/adult acne I had was much more persistent than normal blackheads/whiteheads of my teen years. It created nodules, pustules, papules, and cysts deep beneath my skin which were impossible to pop (not that I would anyways, since they leave horrible scars), and took weeks to heal. I tried countless topical products and treatments to no avail -- microdermabrasions, silkpeels, hydrodermabrasions, chemical peels, fractional laser, LED red/blue light therapy, facials, high frequency machine, Blue MD, Baby Quasar blue, Proactive, Clean & Clear, Clearasil, organic cleansers, Skinceuticals products, Dermalogica products, blah blah blah....none of them worked. I became more and more frustrated and was basically at wit's end when I finally decided that I needed to see an actual dermatologist. I had always been wary of getting prescribed antibiotics or any prescription strength medicines because you always hear of how they should be a last resort and that they have all these side effects. Well...it was THE CURE! I got prescribed a low dose of antibiotics and a topical antibiotic and so far have had no side effects and my acne has cleared up by 98%. It's crazy. No longer do I wake up in the morning scared to even look in the mirror for fear of what might be on my face. Now when I look, my face keeps getting clearer and clearer. Basically, if you have acne issues -- come to this place to get an ACCURATE assessment of your skin instead of going to various spas, estheticians, and facialists for your acne concerns. While they may be able to treat minimal acne, they're not going to give you complete information like a dermatologist can and honestly, I've wasted literally thousands of dollars on treatments like microdermabrasions and facials in the hope that they would clear up my acne once and for all -- and I was disappointed every time. Holly, the person who saw me, made suitable recommendations for my skin and was very knowledgeable about what would and would not work for me. Great place, I recommend it! read more

Ava is amazing. I had a bad experience and a laser made a bruise on my nose and Ava fix it in two days. She really cares about others and she's really nice. I highly recommend her! read more

I've been coming to this place for many years . my esthetician Melanie is unbelievable, an absolute amazing artist, she really changed my life! She's given me so much confidence I'm so happy that I found her, she treats me like family every time I see her. 100 stars for Melanie. Highly Recommended !!! read more

If I could give 10 stars, I would as this place surely deserves it! It was the day before my wedding and I woke up with both arms swollen from mosquito bites I got the day before. I immediately called and they were able and willing to squeeze me in that afternoon. The people I spoke with over the phone were completely understanding of the urgency of my situation and were really reassuring. I met with Dr Brianna (who is absolutely gorgeous btw) and she gave me a bunch of different options and was super empathetic of the importance of getting the swelling down. What she did for me was beyond amazing and the next morning, she even took the time to call and check in on me to see how I'm doing. Thank you for everything! read more

This review is for Stefanie for facials. I've been to many aestheticians around Los Angeles, and she is by far the best. She is extremely knowledge when it comes to skin and skin care. She is always up to date on procedures and products. She also never pushes products or treatments which is a rarity. Since I started seeing her, people constantly tell me my skin is beautiful and ask what they should be doing to care for their skin. My answer: go see Stefanie! read more

Melanie's the best!!!! She cleaned my face UP when I was suffering from a MAJOR allergic reaction/breakout/rash. All of the girls are SUPER nice and genuinely caring. The only complaint I do have is that it's almost impossible to get a hold of someone via phone. You will either go straight to voicemail and not get a call back for two weeks from the wrong location??? Or be on hold for over half an hour. Emails, same thing. It took them weeks to respond. :/ I have learned to avoid having to call the office AT ALL times making my future appointments ahead of time and just hope & pray that I don't have any questions/concerns after...lol :/ (Plus, now I have their direct cell # ;)) Oh, and for the central location, the parking situation is great! :) read more

Absolutely the best, very helpful personnel! They make u feel comfortable and at ease, no matter what kind of procedure you are having. I would recommend Ava MD to everyone that needs a GREAT dermatologist! read more

I went to this place for the first time this week and saw KarriAnn Erdmann, NP. I was having problems with acne (face) and psoriasis (face, scalp, elbows, toe nails). KarriAnn was great, very sweet and helpful. Unlike doctors/dermatologists I've seen in the past, she was actually interested in hearing what medications I've tried in the past, and what did or did not work for me. She then prescribed me something for each of my problems. Other doctors have always told me there is no treatment for nail psoriasis, but apparently they were either lying or clueless. read more

This is the only place that was able to help me with my adult acne. I went to so many dermatologists and estheticians and nobody was able to help me with my skin issues like this place! I did the smooth beam lazer treatments and microdermabrasion treatments. The treatments are pricey but worth every penny! I've spent so much money in the past on expensive skin care and nothing helped my skin like these treatments. The lazer treatments got rid of my cyctic acne breakouts and the microdermabrasion helped with my scarring and made my skin very smooth. I highly reccommend this place! Also, the staff is very friendly! read more

Although we didn't get off on the right foot when I first came in (they made me wait an hour before my appointment) I will say that from that point on, everything has been amazing. I'd gone to another dermatologist in Culver City for eczema; he made me wait for 45 mins while he was on the phone with the contractor doing his home repair. I know this because I could hear him through the paper thin walls, but I digress. So after he had only made my skin worse, I felt it was hopeless to go to any doctor until I met Lisa at Ava. She was way more personal with my visit and offered me more than just prescriptions to heal the problem, she gave me an entire regimen of things to consider and work on; after only a week my hands were back to normal and they continue to stay that way. read more

Basically I was suffering from the worst acne breakout I had ever experienced. I tried a bunch of stuff and nothing would noticeably help. I received the Smoothbeam treatment here at Ava and OMG it made such a huge difference. I immediately saw improvement. The staff here is so nice, Melanie is a pro at facials/extractions. She cleaned me up soo well. The treatments hurt minimally and they are so totally worth it. read more

I have been going to AVA MD in Beverly Hills for 6 years. In the beginning i used their MD services to clear up my acne, and have continued to go there for facials and peels on a routine basis. The staff is very friendly and very knowledgable about their products and procedures. I do everything with Stephanie, and on the rare occasion that she is not available i use Christine. Both are excellent. They really work well with you to achieve the results you are looking for. There is metered street parking, and usually its pretty easy to find a spot directly on Santa Monica Blvd. Every now and then there is a little wait (10-15 mins), but that is understandable and the waiting room is very nice and they offer snacks/drinks while you wait. They have a great reward program and good products too. I highly recommend AVA MD. They have really turned my skin around for the good :) read more

I love this place. The staff is so nice, and they are really accomodating. I had a consult with Terry, and she was so much fun, and I could have spent the day chatting with her. She didn't push anything, and she just made a few suggestions, all of which I completely agreed with. She fit me in with Stefanie for a peel. Stefanie was also a sweetheart, and she is a true professional. Eight days later, my skin looks fantastic - way better than it has in years! The store front setup makes it really easy to stroll in and get a feel for the office and the services offered. read more

I've been here multiple time for acne injections and laser treatments. Christine and Karen are both fantastic. Front desk staff are friendly and have always found a way to accommodate me. Even better they are in-network with my insurance (I checked myself before I came to the office). Billing has always been correct, so insurance covers my medically necessary appointments and I haven't had any issues on that end. Cosmetic procedure costs are standard for the area and results have been fantastic. Love the team and ambiance, highly recommend them. read more

Jenna at the Beverly Hills location was wonderful - my 14 year old daughter really felt comfortable and well taken care of. I also greatly appreciate that AVAMD was able to fit us in last minute. All of the front desk staff were super helpful and sweet as well. Nice also that they take most insurance. (We ran to AVA MD from different Dr's office where no one asked me anything about insurance although I booked a week in advance. When we arrived at that office, they suddenly said they don't work with my insurance, although my group is a large well-regarded provider one, and a PPO. I've never ever experienced a Dr. refusing this insurance before). All the more reason to simply return to AVAMD whenever I or my daughter need anything. Thank you, AVAMD! read more

The minute you walk through the door you relax! Reception staff is welcoming and very accommodating, of course, Kelly is the best!!!! I had a facial with Melanie who breaks the record for "amazing" treatment and followed up with an Ultherapy treatment the next day with Holly. The results are amazing and I am very pleased. I would not entertain going anywhere else! read more

I have been going to AVA MD SPA for facials with Stephanie. She is the best. She is also very nice and knows what she is doing. Very professional. Today, I came to see Teri who is a patient consultant. I came to get a consultatipn about zeltig or the coolsculpting. She was very friendly. She took me to her room and explained how the machine works. She's very knowledgable and answered all my questions. She was not pushy or rushing me into getting the procedure done. We talked for quite a while, and I felt very easy to talk to her. The office looks very nice and clean. The waiting room is very cozy and has lots of goodies (cookies, coffee, tea, water). Parking is easy - lots of meter parking on the street. I highly recommend this place. read more

Ava MD was highly recommended by a friend. The staff is extremely helpful and accommodating. Terri was more than happy to answer all of my questions. I will definitely be recommending them to all of my friends. read more

Saw Stefanie for an oxygen infusion/facial before an event. Awesome experience and results!!

Ava MD (the offices in BH) are the best dermatologists I have ever seen. During most of 2010 and 2011 I suffered through an awful case of adult acne, and the ladies here (namely Karri-Ann and Stephanie) were so lovely and patient during each one of my many visits. What's more- they completely cured my skin! I was so impressed by the level of care I received- I wasn't forced into doing every laser treatment under the sun (though I highly recommend Smoothbeam) and was also prescribed a tailor-made cocktail of prescription medications, which is pretty much unheard of at most LA derms/medi-spas. I owe them my unwavering happiness! read more

Popped in here a couple weeks ago for a cortisone injection. I had called to try and make appointments at a variety of other derms closer to me (including my standard one) but I kept getting told that all the appointments were full for the day. When I called AVA, the receptionist was so kind and went above and beyond to make room for me even though it was a "tight squeeze." When I arrived, they were just as nice and took great care of me (plus their office is so chic!!). In addition to the procedure I made my appointment for, I also got some really good input from Carrie Ann and am so glad that I ended up there! read more

I am in love with the entire staff. They were so accommodating and even fit me in for a last minute appointment on her lunch hour when I decided to try the laser and didn't want to have to come back on another day. Very clean, very professional and very knowledgeable staff of experts that all practice what they preach. So excited to find a new dermatologist! read more

I underwent MiraDry at Ava MD Beverly Hills location- first treatment in mid 2012, second treatment November 2012. Teri was helpful in performing my consultation and provided the best pearls of how to prepare for the upcoming procedure. My nurse practitioner, Holly, who performed both of my MiraDry procedures was GREAT!! She was friendly, knowledgeable , & walked me through everything. My unique case called for slightly different settings, and using her assessment skills she was able to choose the best setting for me. And after two sessions I could not be happier with my MiraDry results! I would recommend this location & staff to anyone looking to undergo MiraDry. Thank you AvaMD :) read more

Excellent staff, beautiful, clean facility, high-class with tea and snacks in the wait room. I was anxious before the treatments. Christine and Kelly were warm, shared information, and proceeded slowly making sure I was calm with the process. Prices are higher than the deals on groupon or living social, etc. However, I feel when you are working on your face, you deserve the attention and care. You only have one face~ read more

There is no one in this city better for skin maintenance that these two clinics... Christine is the best at injectables, blemishes, and all around looking good... Tanya in Santa Monica has made me look 10 years younger since the late '80's. Stephanie handles my grandson, age 15 with teenage acne and he loves her.. Ava MD Rocks!! read more

I have never seen Dr. Shamban as a patient so I cannot write about her but this review reflects my treatment and service provided by her PA (Physicians Assistant) Lisa Goodman. Lisa is a very intelligent, very capable, experienced and compassionate professional. She spends adequate time to analyze and address your skin issues. She has definitely made a difference in the appearance of my skin... I highly recommend her!!! read more

Robin Perkins, R. N. at Ava MD's is fantastic - I have been a patient at this office for 8 or more years and every recommendation and service is wonderful for me leaving me with a very natural look. Tanya and Robin are my favorites. Tanya is a brow expert and gives marvelous facials. Nurse Robin does my resurfacing and recently has done restylane silk injections into my fine lines around my lips. My lines run pretty deep and restylane silk combined with Nurse Robin's talents and knowledge look amazing. People (even strangers) have commented on how great my skin looks and I know it is a result of great brows, resurfacing on a regular basis and the restylane silk injections that look very natural. Nothing over the top!!! Thanks girls - you are the best!! Kim Wooden read more

I have been a patient of AVA MD for almost a year now and have been to the Beverly Hills location to be treated for issues ranging from acne to wanting the lines in my face plumped up with Juevderm. Absolutely everyone that I have seen for treatment (Christine, Kari-Ann, Melanie, Bernice - forgive me if I've left anyone out!) has been absolutely patient, understanding, professional and most of all, they all have contributed to the improvement of my skin and well being! If that isn't enough, the staff at the front desk is amazing! Teri and Liz, especially are so wonderful to speak to and those ladies take very, very good care of each and every patient. They are polite on the phone, will do everything possible to squeeze me in to be seen on the fly, always have samples of products available and are just THE BEST! In addition, the office is so comfortable and relaxing to spend time in while you are being treated. I've been to many other dermatologists in Beverly Hills and never, ever will I go anywhere but to AVA MD. I can't say enough good things and want to thank everyone there for taking such good care of me! read more

Thanks Teri and Kevin! I had laser treatment today that is not available at the Santa Monica location. I could not be happier with your office and of course my treatment! Although I was told it may be uncomfortable at the beginning...I was fine and almost fell asleep. Yikes! Can't wait to return for follow up! read more

I usually go to Shamban's Beverly Hills Med spa because it is closer to where I live and when I really need to get things done. Especially, when I get these nasty pimples when it's that time of the month. I just go in (without appts) for the cortisone shot for my acne and I do not have to wait long to get it. YAY! Excellent service and treatments! =) read more

The staff is extremely friendly and they provide a relaxing environment in which I feel 'at-home'. Though treatments are expensive, you are getting top of the line results and your money's worth. I highly recommend Ava MD to anyone interested in their services! read more

I've been going to both the Santa Monica and Beverly Hills offices and have always had a positive and wonderful experience. Love the specials they do, especially the lash and dash events. Sign up for their email news letters as they always have great trials and specials. read more

Dr. Ava Shamban and her crew in Santa Monica are the platinum standard of cosmetic dermatology. But the downside with that popularity, combined with an overwhelmed front desk means that you might end up waiting hours for a scheduled appointment (particularly with Dr. Shamban herself.) But the AVA MD location in Beverly Hills is the essence of efficiency. They offer nearly all the services (Botox, fillers, laser and light treatments) that Santa Monica does with none of the hassle. The skill of the staff is unparalleled and every single one of them is a peach. Christine Nall and (as it happens, her sister) Carrie are my favorites but there isn't one person there I've been to who hasn't had mad skills handling the needles and equipment. I get IPL Fotofacials here on a regular basis as well as fillers and Botox. I've never had to wait more than a day or two for an appointment. Kevin at the front desk is the soul of calm and reassurance (as is all the staff working in front.) read more

Went to AVA MD not knowing what to expect and a virgin to any type of skin care needs. At 31 years old, I felt it was the right time to start addressing my skin care needs. The staff there was very professional and took the time in answering all my questions and concerns. Not only did I walk out of there feeling confident but impressed at how easy going everyone was there. I totally recommend AVA MD to everyone. I can't wait to go back. read more

Went for first time on Saturday. Read some reviews about shabby treatment at reception and long wait times. I had absolutely no problem - walked in, was greeted and taken care of immediately and maybe waited 5 minutes to see my aesthetician. She was also fantastic - explained everything she was doing; was patient and gentle. Results were really good. I've had a lot of procedures done, and this seemed to be one of the most effective for me (pelleve). I am definitely going back for more treatments. Highly recommend this place. read more

I've been coming here for close to 15 years now and have had nothing but wonderful experiences with the staff. I've only seen Dr Shamban herself a handful of times, mostly early on, but I'm okay with that, as the rest of her staff have been delightful. The office has always been extremely accommodating and pleasant. Back in my early 20s, when I first started coming and broke out, they would always squeeze me in for a cortisone injection, even within the hour, if I had a huge cystic pimple pop up that needed immediate attention. When I got into my late twenties and developed Melasma, they were pretty successful at battling it and made sure my face was flawless for my wedding day. Of course my melasma has come and gone since then, after having kids and all the fluctuations in hormones (this is something you have to continue treating in order for it to not be visible), they did an excellent job and making it look better than it did and I haven't had a treatment in over 3 years. Very pleased with this office and always happy they never tried to over-sell any products or procedures as so many other dermatologist do in Beverly Hills (believe me, I've seen them all!) and I keep coming back to Ava MD. read more

I've been seeing Rita for facials for over a year and have loved not only her professionalism and thorough knowledge, but also her warm personality. Rita's facials keep my skin healthy and happy, I highly recommend her! read more
