This place has been an absolute life saver these past few weeks! I've spent plenty of late nights (and early mornings) here finishing up my piles of projects and homework before the end of term. Plenty of seating indoors and out, well lit, and plenty of outlets for laptops and cellphones. The one complaint I have about this place is that anytime I order a drink that falls outside the "american coffee shops norm" it's usually sub par at best. I ordered a Thai tea this past heat wave we had and it was basically orange tinted water with a lot of half and half. That the standard drinks like lattes and cold brews are pretty good. This review is based on several visits over the past year. The ambiance and decor are great. The coffee is average. If you want to sit in the lovely outdoor seating area, be prepared to share your air with smokers. I was once told that they cannot serve iced-tea! So they gave me hot tea and a cup with ice. The two times I have had an iced dark chocolate mocha, I had stomach problems within 30-40 minutes and had to go home to use the bathroom! Otherwise, their food and beverages have been good. It is a crowded place most days, so they have a lot of tables crammed close to one another, which makes it hard to navigate. Most of the tables are too small to sit and study or do homework (or grade papers). And I usually have to clean my own table before I sit down. Overall, I want so badly to like this place and that's why I continue going. It's conveniently close to home. But I am usually disappointed in the end. Oh well. I give it 2.5 stars. read more

I love this place! They have a full sandwich menu, amazing soup, great breakfast croissant sandwiches, and some of best chocolate mochas to be found on this earth! The people are always very sweet and have a smile for you everyday! If you like to sit outdoors, they have a very neat set-up with two water features, a fire, a large patio that wraps around two sides of the building and heaters above the tables. They have a parking lot that will hold four cars plus one handicap space but there is a lot of easy street parking very close to their doors. They also cater and have very good staff for this as well. We had them cater our benefit concert this past March and were very pleased with the delicious spread they brought. I can't believe how I was treated. I have been working in guest services for over 15 years and I have never been treated like this or seen someone treated this way. I understand that guests and customers keep the business going, and with this model of guest service you won't have too many in the future. I was yelled at from across the restaurant at 6am that I couldn't bring in any food from outside. This was SO RUDE; I understand the rule although at the time I did not know the rule existed. Would It have not gone over better to respectfully and quietly approach the guest and ask them to leave their outside food/drink in their car, but instead I was treated like a rebellious 2 year old. I have spent literally hundreds of dollars at AVA since it opened and expect more from a company that I have received some really great service from. Than I confronted the woman who treated me like this with a gentle note that I asked her to read only stating that what she did, hurt my feelings and embarrassed me too. She refused to read the note, telling me she was too busy and than told me to leave, THREATENED TO CALL THE POLICE, AND MADE AN EVEN LARGER SCENE. WOW! THAN SHE CALLED HERSELF THE OWNER, THIS IS INTOLERABLE!! I can't expect AVA to retain customers if they are going to be treated this way. People go here because its a 24 hour hot spot not its good coffee , because its bad , New seasons coffee at progress ridge has better coffee if you go to the Ava's in progress ridge. The red haired lady at progress ridge was so rude, upon arriving we got a table and we where waiting for another party , but this lady came and without any tact asked us that this table she was going to have to make availablesince wedding buy anything. My friend was irritated at the lady's tone got up and bought the smallest expresso shot he could. Little did she know that we come in a group of 15 volunteers on week ends to work on some planing and spend a good amount of money. After this incident on 2/19/13 I probably will move our group to new seasons across the street wich I just found out has stumptown coffee mmmmm! read more

This place is the only place that opens 24/7 that i'm aware of in the Portland/Beaverton area! Used to be my destination for late study! It can get really busy and crowded in the evening, but it gets quiet after midnight.. Highly recommended for the night owl students! Coffee and desert are decent. No complains. read more

I didn't say anything, because frankly I would have had to wait another twenty minutes to talk to someone given the staffing, and I work so I didn't have the time. Some of the pastries and cookies are good, but most are just overpriced sugarbombs with little flavor. and the cannoli ARE NOT REAL CANNOLI. Do not buy them if you are even remotely into food or cannoli. It's just thick whipped cream- no cheese, no flavor, they are gross. How do I know so much about this place if I don't like, you may be thinking. Well, I work less than a block from this location and every other place around here sucks, too. This shop adds something sorely needed in Beaverton: A great place to hang out for grown-ups. Starbucks has been taken over by the teenagers, so we more mature folk need a place too. Good pasteries and coffee. Free Wi-Fi. It's close to the library and easy to get to. I like the service that doesn't hover, as I feel free to hang out as long as I want. Downsides are a bit pricey and there's no parking except on the streets nearby. So, it's a good excuse to walk or use your bike! read more

Defiantly recommend Java Nation!!! Other then being open 24 hours, I do not recommend going here especially if you are a student trying to study or a business owner trying to get some work done. Very loud, hardly ever a place to sit and tables are very small. Worst of all the coffee is horribly bitter and the Wifi lags a lot in an hour period that last time I was there I got kicked off three times and had to reestablish connection. The foods ok but you can get the same thing or better over at New Seasons. Oh yeah and if you need a table with more room there are signs says you can't sit here unless there are two or more people. The lack of parking is another downer, the times I've gone had to park in two hour zones at least a block or so away. It looks cool and is open 24 hours but that's about it. read more

Ava is a little too kid friendly with a bunch of high school kids hanging around being really loud and obnoxious without any regard to others. Simply Amazing and well planned. I had my best Latte in one of the 5 branches last Sunday, and I drink a lot of coffee in three states. The business is doing well for a reason, and that is why many people make this their social hub. They get busy often, so if you have to wait in line a bit longer that is why. Finally, this is one place I can trust the fresh house made pastries any time, They are pricey, but well worth it, if you value quality, otherwise go to Safeway or Starbucks for pastries. They never have day old items and I have heard anything left at the end the day is donated to charity. read more

I want to love this place, it's close to home and a great alternative to my office space when I want to be around friendly people and good coffee. But the people working here have very little personality, almost un-friendly. The location at Cedar Mill has an issue with one of the doors, so when people enter or leave, it stays wide open on very cold days. The staff does nothing about it, so the people inside have to continuously get up to shut the door because it's absolutely freezing inside. This happens literally every time I come, and have seen people leave because of it. I wish they would either fix it, or put a sign on the door to use the other door. Seems like an easy fix??? Stopped in for only coffee this time. I will visit again but cleanliness is clearly not a priority. Looked grimy and greasy around the dish return area and all along the walls under the windows is filthy with dirt/mud and scuff marks. i come here for the atmosphere, definitely not the coffee-yuck. good place to hang out, chit chat with friends, and do some light studying/work. it can get loud-especially when they have live music on some weekends. only 3 cars & a motorcyle can fit in the parking lot. you can park across the street at key bank during non-business hours. leave your hookahs at home. i don't think they permit it anymore. read more

This is a great cafe, open 24 hours, excellent wifi service, very good sandwiches and pastries, and excellent coffee. The service is very very good, friendly and helpful. There are a lot of tables, a few comfortable leather couches, many of the chairs are padded. And they have a patio that I'm looking forward to using more in the coming months. Because of all of these things, and the fact that there are not many alternatives (other than starbucks), Ava Roasteria is usually pretty crowded. The noise level can get somewhat high but because it's a relatively big space and high ceilings, it's bearable. I've also noticed that others have posted about there now being a place for Beaverton kids to hang out and socialize and I think that that is a very good thing. Most of the kids I see are studying although there are occasionally noisy socializing groups. Nevertheless, this place deserves five star. read more

I would like to start off by saying that Ava's is normally a great place but tonight I left angry with the management/whoever does the scheduling at this place. Any one that has ever been here knows that its busy all night and it can be difficult to find seating because it gets so crowded. That being said I can't even begin to imagine the genius manager who thought it would be a good idea to schedule this poor guy by himself at this time if the night when it's this busy. It's now 11:05pm and we placed an order a half hour ago. A simple ham and provolone sandwich. He hasn't even had a chance to make the sandwich yet because he had a line the entire time! Kudos to this guy for being able to do it himself but JESUS!! Why one earth is he the only one here!? He needs help!!! This is unacceptable Ava Roasteria! Shame on you for leaving him to fend for this busy crowd all by himself. He got a large tip from us because he was super friendly and is efficient and speedy. I give him 5 stars but the management gets only 2 stars. One for at least scheduling the right person to be able to handle this crowd and another because I feel bad for just giving you one star. I'm not as mean as to give you ONE star.
