Growing up in the Ohio Valley I was really glad to see a restaurant of this nature. It had a lot of great choices. I absolutely loved the "feel" of this small dining area. It was very "Ohio Valley". The food did not disappoint. They have IPA beers on the menu and the service was not bad at all. If you go on a busy night, you may have to wait but the food is worth the wait. Stopped here during a road trip for a quick lunch - tried the FRESH CUT FRIES with poutine. The fries were great, the poutine was so-so. Glops of semi melted cheese and brown gravy from a can does not a poutine make, sadly. Things were similar with my GRILLED BRIE & APPLE sandwich - (brie / granny smith apples / caramelized onion / cinnamon raisin bread came with side salad). The brie was so mild it was virtually undetectable, all you could taste was the very strong raisin bread. If I had any onions they were so stingy with them I never found them. Side salad was lovely and fresh though. Everything seemed just "almost" to me, like it all had the potential to be great but it was just OK. Such a cute and tiny restaurant! I've never been to the area but I was pleasantly surprised. The service was outstanding. We ordered the breakfast burger with fries and the Baked Brie and Pear burger with a side salad. Both were outstanding! The ciabatta bread for the second one was perfectly soft and crunchy at the same time. The fries seemed fresh as well. I would highly recommend this establishment. The burgers are really good! Service was great. Tabitha was super friendly. Tried the wings, Thai Garlic, had a nice spice but were not wicked hot. Son liked triple cheese grilled cheese. Loved that you could get a side salad instead of fries, though their fresh cut fries were good too! Kids menu had a nice assortment and not relegated to chicken strips. Avenue Eats has a great selection of sandwiches, burgers, salads, and appetizers. The wait staff is friendly and chill, along with the owners. It's one of the three good places to eat in Wheeling. Enjoy! For a first visit I recommend the Chicken Caesar (it's a sandwich with grilled chicken, jarlsburg cheese, bacon, garlic aioli on their ciabatta roll) and choose salad as a side with their fresh honey mustard dressing. Super cute place to eat. I've gone here with a few friends so many times and I've never had a bad experience there. Everyone who works there is super friendly. The food is super awesome-I recommend the black bean sliders. Also, it's right by Wheeling Coffee Shoppe so if you wanna head over there after for coffee or maybe a dessert it's right there! Although, dessert is just as good at Avenue Eats. They usually have a few cupcakes up at the counter and they're delicious. Also, if it's a nice day outside, definitely sit out on the patio. Found this restaurant from an online article claiming it to have the 4th best hamburger in the United States! From someone who has traveled around the country and tried several great restaurants, I must say they got it right. I got the Diner burger with bacon and it was cooked to perfection. And the bacon... We are new to this area and were yelping where to eat on our first night in the town. Yelp took us here and we almost missed it. It's camouflaged in residential areas although it does have big banner flying in the front porch. The seating is very intimate, most tables are 2 seaters and a few square table for 4. The burger - amazing! I had the Gouda burger and it's cooked to perfection with cheese dripping down... all the burgers on the menu looks appetizing, guess I'll have to come back a few more times to try them all! My wife and I are regulars and estimate that we've been to Avenue Eats over 30 times. If you're only going once we would recommend the Breakfast Burger (me), the Roasted Red Pepper Burger (she), get the hand cut fries, and a cheeseboard for good measure. Some of the best burgers I've ever had. Great portion size and flavors. I try a different one each time I go. Paired with fries you can't go wrong but the side salad is also worthy. I usually get a side of buffalo sauce for my fries because I am such a huge fan their sauce. If you find yourself with a sweet tooth, they also have amazing seasonal cupcakes. The restaurant itself is small and sort of intimate, which I liked. You can sit inside or outside. The food is prepared quickly and the staff is very polite. Avenue Eats is a cute eatery close to downtown Wheeling. They offer reasonably priced lunch that makes for a quick, easy in and out experience. The brie and apple and the portobello mushroom sandwiches are my favorite lunches here. Handhelds come with a salad or fresh cut fries, and the dressing on the salad is great! Service is okay, but food takes a while to come out. They offer a charming outdoor seating area that is perfect for summer months. What a pleasant surprise to find this restaurant on our way through Wheeling. We started with the lamb tacos which had great flavor and a nice bit of heat. We also shared the shrimp Po boy and the roasted jalapeño burger. The Po boy was great and the burger, cooked medium rare exactly as requested was one of the best I have had in a while. Many have dubbed Avenue Eats (AE) the home of one of the best burgers in the state of WV - and they aren't wrong. But, yummy burgers and hand-cut fries are just the tip of the iceberg. I'm particularly fond of the black bean sliders (I always ask for extra sauce) and the gourmet sloppy joe. The black bean hummus is another favorite. Oh, my gosh - I almost forgot to mention the incredible cupcakes! If you see one you like, don't be too embarrassed to tell your server to "put it on hold" for you -- they do sell out and, trust me, you'll want to get one. Diet be damned! Pros: Cute, intimate, tastefully-decorated restaurant with fantastic tasting food and good service. Outdoor patio in front for dining when weather permits. I want to start off by saying that I'm kind of a burger snob. So much so that I've gotten to a point that I don't even like burgers much because they're usually either too dry or flavorless for me. I can without a doubt say I'd eat there regularly if I lived around town. My burger was so juicy, the mustard/sauce on it added a great kick, and the flavor was out of this world. I went with the pub burger since it's the OG. If you like poutine or want to try fries with something a little different, this is your place. For dessert, I opted for their cheesecake over a cupcake, and it was extremely creamy and decadent. The waitress described it as their version of a blend between NY Cheesecake and something creamier. I can't really give it a review since we were not able to eat here, but let me explain: It's a rather small place and we were a group of eight. After being told it would be about 45 minutes, we mentioned we could easily be split into two groups of four as we have done at other places while on our vacation. The hostess then said "well let me go check with the servers to ask if they'd be ok with that", and in the meantime we were noticing a simple way of seating us...two tables of two next to each other and plenty of bar stools along a counter by the window. However, we were told "the servers are not ok with this" and basically felt as if we were not welcome. So we are sitting in a different place downtown which looks like a fun place! It is with great sadness and a burgeoning hunger that I start describing the best burger joint I have ever been too in my life. The ingredients are fresh. The meat is outstanding. The execution of composition, cooking and plating are exquisite. I have eaten here twice with my girlfriend. The first came on a whim on route to see her mother in Columbus, OH; the second came on the return trip where we literally planned our departure time so we could arrive in time for lunch. That's when you know you've got something. When people make their travel arrangements around your hours of operation. We have tried several burgers, all of which we highly recommend: the poutine, roasted jalapeno, mushroom, and smoked gouda. My favorite part is knowing that I can try something new each time and love it just as much as the last one. My least favorite part is that I don't get to eat the one I had last time.
