Absolutely one of the most incredible dining experiences I've ever had! This is my first time visiting Dallas and my friend who's a local made us reservations. I had no idea what to expect but wow I was gagged in the best way possible. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous, beautiful luxurious decor and they had a live dj, he was playing amazing lounge music on Sunday brunch that set the mood. Our waitress Elena was simply exceptional and made the experience to be one of the best. I got salmon for brunch and it was so juicy and tender. We got a cinnamon roll as a starter, it was complementary. I had a latter which was so good. For dessert we got butter cake which was heavenly and they also brought us complementary sorbe with coconut macaroons. Over all, I'm so happy my friend took me here! They do go all out on whole fish presentation and table side service . Even though the fish was great, I feel I can make same thing at home. I visited Avra last night with another couple. The environment is great, the dining room is comfortable, and the patio is great of the weather is cooperating. The food is very good. Not amazing but very good. We had a whole grilled fish and shrimp, beet salad, and halloumi cheese. The beets were the highlight of the dinner. The fish was great and the shrimp had too much seasoning/sauce for our taste. The service was ok. I would expect more attentive service at a restaurant of this caliber. It was just ok. The pours and cocktails felt a little small comparatively to other similar restaurants but no actual measuring took place. While I am not rushing back for my next business dinners as I have done for some other restaurants, I would gladly eat at Avra again. My ranking is based against 5-star restaurants. read more

The restaurant is beautiful, food is fresh and delicious, server knowledgeable, friendly and fast. My only issue here was the hostess area. They are answering phones, not greeting guests quickly enough and you are standing in line at the door to come in. I was celebrating my wife's birthday and I stated that in reservation. The hostess asked who's birthday but she didn't seem to deliver that message to our server because as attentive as he was I'm sure he would have said happy birthday and perhaps not charge us for the dessert. I just didn't get the celebration that I was looking for here. But is definitely a quite romantic spot especially with f you have the glass patio seating. read more

This is an amazing restaurant! We went on opening night, and the vibe was electric. Very classy but not pretentious. I can't say enough about how professional the staff was. The hostesses, the waitstaff and the bathroom attendant were all amazing. Miguel was our waiter and we met Jonathan the general manager as well. I started with a Santorini martini - the best martini I've had! Miguel expertly described all of the fresh fish that they had on display at the back of the restaurant. There were four of us, so we all decided to split a 4 pound Branzino and were happy we did. We started with their hummus and pita, as well as their zucchini chips. Both were amazing! Then on to the Greek salad, which was very fresh and probably the best Greek salad I've ever had. For the main course, we had the Branzino along with their potatoes. The Branzino was cooked under a crusted salt dome. Miguel brought it to our table after it was cooked, broke through the salt dome to the fish and then filleted and deboned the fish in front of us. He did a fantastic job! We topped it off with three desserts - macaroons, coconut cream pie, and baklava, along with coffee. I highly recommend Avra and will definitely be back. Fist time to this restaurant. Six of us for dinner a couple days before Xmas. Beautiful place, great atmosphere. Now I can say been there, done that, won't do it again. Thank goodness for valet service, or park block away. Receptionist was prompt and friendly. It's a large restaurant; we went from the main room to a second room and finally to a third room which appeared that it could also be a private party room for maybe 50+. The waiter was pushy, trying to rush us but I wasn't about to be rushed at a family dinner. He claims it's a Greek Restaurant, but not really. They don't carry any Greek beer, so I ordered a German beer and wine for dinner. Four of us ordered Martini's but the had NO plain olives which he told us when he brought the martinis to the table. 7:00 and no plain olives, you need a new bartender; stop by the grocery and pick up some plain olives. My first wine choice $120 they didn't have. But they did recommend a similar $220 bottle, no Thsnks, I chose another one The salad was good and the octopus was outstanding. Definitely recommend both. The waiter encouraged us to try the fish and share it at the table, so we ordered 2 fish (7 lbs) and 3 sides. The fish was average, fresh but not well seasoned. The sides were adequate but not outstanding. Final bull was $800 for the 6 of us. Sorry but no I would not go back. Overpriced average food and wine. read more

Server pushed us on ordering much more than we wanted and needed, claiming that what we had wanted to order would not be nearly enough and not everyone would get food and those who did would barely get a bite/ small portions. Of course that ended up not even remotely being the case and not one of the 6 people we were with came close to finishing their food. Didn't like that and was upset by the waste of food and higher bill. Drinks took a while. Otherwise really liked it! WOW! That is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Avra. First the decorations are gorgeous, feels like a luxurious home on the Mediterranean. The serves are well informed on the history of the restaurant and its ultra fresh ingredients. The most important thing to me is to not have an empty water glass, I think it really shows the level of service at a restaurant, and Avra did not disappoint. My glass never ran out! All the food I had was delicious, octopus was extremely tender, the chicken was perfectly cooked, and don't get me started on the chocolate cake! 16 layers of chocolate heaven!! I rarely leave reviews, but I had to share this one. My wife and I dined at Avra on Friday 11/7, and unfortunately, the experience was far from what we expected. The food was honestly disappointing - nothing stood out, and for the price, we expected much better quality. To make matters worse, our server Fernando went MIA halfway through the meal. We had to flag down another server just to close out our check. We spent over $300 for a party of two, and it definitely wasn't worth it. If you're looking for great food and service, skip Avra and go to Catch instead which is a few minutes away. read more

I have been planning corporate events for over 30 years and have never seen service like this. The staff glided across the floor in their cream-colored dinner jackets, never missing a detail, never without a genuine smile and an offer to assist in any way. Vadan, their special events manager is on top of even the slightest detail and cannot do enough to ensure that you have an exceptional experience. Went there for Mother's Day today. Reservation was at 1:30, walked into the door at 1:34, sat at table at 1:50. It was very busy in there for the holiday I get it. Was served a complimentary cinnamon roll which was very good but the guy came to ask if could take it when about half was still left on the plate, very much rushing us into our ordered food. Got the spanakopita as my appetizer which came with a plastic strand which management said was a part of the brush they use to spread butter on the pastry. Was offered another appetizer replacement which I asked for it to be boxed up, no problem. Ordered steak and eggs. The egg omelette was great but the steak (medium rare) came cold with congealed sauce. Had to call over waiter 2x for refill on my water glass. The rest of my table enjoyed their food. We went to Avra on a Saturday evening, yes we had reservations. It is a beautiful restaurant but the experience was mediocre at best. We had early reservations with another couple. When we arrived we went to the bar to have a pre dinner cocktail. There was barely anybody in Avra at the time and just two additional people at the bar. It took over 10 minutes for the bartender to acknowledge us. When our friends arrived a few minutes later it was the same another 10 minutes. The hostess was going to seat us on the patio, which is way out of any dining room and at a table that was literally right next to another couple when the restaurant was wide open. She was kind enough to move us to a great table. We ordered calamari and they arrived cold and there were exactly 8 pieces. The Greek salad was served without any olives. The lobster pasta sounded amazing but again there was barely any lobster in the dish and really no flavor. Our server was the best part of the evening, a thank you to James. Also valet is $10, not free in the evenings as stated though not unexpected. We are not food snobs so pretty easy to make us happy. Avra was extremely disappointing and we will not be back. Too big, food not up to the hype and much better places in Dallas for a great evening out. read more
