Love this place, it's as simple as that. A true Dallas institution. As a former Dallasite who lived in the neighborhood, this was one of those bi-weekly or multi-month visits for me for years. I've been gone from the area for 5 years now, but every trip back I try to make a trip to Shucks to feed those cravings. The shrimp cocktail is a must, the fried catfish is always on point, and the lunch specials are a great deal if you're ever in the area. Even their grilled options, like the fish tacos, are always fresh and great. I've never had some of the more seasonal items like the crawfish, oysters, or crab legs, but every time i'm there someone has those going on - so I imagine they are great. Post-pandemic, they have upped their options for drinks and it's now pay as you order vs pay before you leave but outside of that this place has gone pretty well unchanged and quality it still there and still as solid as ever. I have been coming here since I was a kid and even though it's a drive, I love coming here and enjoying my meal on a warm day. It can get crowded, so I am glad they offer Valet parking because parking can be a struggle. Don't carry cash? that's okay because they accept cashapp, Venmo, and Apple Pay as well. Aw Shucks used to go by the honor system where you could just eat and pay for it all in the end, but they no longer do that and ask for you to pay when you order, like most restaurants. They offer seafood, or course, but they also offer wings, tenders, sandwiches. I personally don't like seafood, but I love their Buffalo wing basket and steak fries. So good & I definitely recommend. My son likes the shrimp and my husband enjoys the gumbo, yes, even in the heat. It's that good! Even though you order and pick up your food at the counter, a nice gentleman kept coming by to make sure everything was good and would take our plates as we finished. This place has always been one of my favorites. The staff is always fast and friendly. If you like seafood and you like to people watch, this is the place to visit. It isn't very big. The inside is super small but there is adequate seating outside which is covered. The food choices vary from fried seafood baskets which includes a combination of seafood if selected and French fries. They have an honor system. You order your food at a register; eat your food, there will be no ticket given to you by a server. When you are done with your meal, you go to the register near the exit and tell the cashier with you ordered. Talk about trust-please don't cheat the server. The cost is kept down because people are usually honest about their complete order. If you are not into fried foods, there is gumbo and boiled combinations to suit your taste buds. This is a must try place if you are looking for some good seafood. Get there early because finding a parking space close can be a problem on weekends around lunch time. read more

I am so excited to find a spot that offers FRESH delicious oysters on the half shell without robbing me blind. We ate 3 dozen and then had a catfish platter. The catfish only gets 3 stars from me. It was mediocre, and overly salty, but I am not a fan of most fried foods. My mango margarita was tasty and strong. The service was friendly. We were the 1st customers at 1100 and were greeted at the register. We ordered the 1 lb Spicy Garlic Snow Crab and 1 lb Spicy Garlic Hot Shrimp. Sitting outside in the makeshift patio with plastic walls and barriers, it took no time before the food was cold and the Garlic Butter started to coagulate. The Crab was sweet and tasty, having to rush to eat it warm, but the Head-on Shrimp was a complete turnoff! Half the Shrimp were inedible after peeling the heads off they turned to mush in your fingers trying to get the shells off. Half of the shrimp were curled up like and solid texture, the other half were straight and mush! I'm sure at a better time this place may have earned it 4.5 Stars on Yelp, but they don't deserve even 1 Star after the rotten shrimp and disinterested service. read more

Although this place was small and parking across the street cost $8, it was worth it. We had the shrimp cocktail, crab legs, oysters, and fried basket with catfish, shrimp, and coconut shrimp. You place order, try and find a table to sit, and pay before you leave. The shrimp cocktail was large enough to share and there was a lot of shrimp, but they were small and only offered a few avocado slices. The catfish was perfectly seasoned and delicious. The crab legs tasted amazing and the only thing I would request would be better crab opening utencils. I am sure this has to do with covid and the lack of customers at these restaurants, because the quality of their food has fallen. I ordered a two fish fillet basket a shrimp salad and they both failed. The salad had some old lettuce in it, and was just a bland salad, the fish fillets seemed old or something. I would have gave a 5 star review but I've noticed that recently the portions of food have been really off, for example I always make sure to order the hot wings, which come with a side of fries. Their Wine-a-Ritas are ADDICTIVE! There are 3 or 4 flavors, but I always go with the original. It's a great place to go with a lot of friends, talk loud and just have fun because the seating is outside. What do I get to eat? Nice little unpretentious place in Greenville. Bathrooms are out back, most of the seating is patio, and condiments sit out in a bucket. We got the seafood platter (1/2 lb each of boiled shrimp, crab legs, and sausage) and a pound of crawfish.
