I'm so happy I was introduced to this place!! The staff were super awesome and made our experience so unique and fun. Aside from the amazing and fresh sashimi, very plate we got was better than the next. This is now my go to sushi spot, and I doubt another will top the experience you get here. MUST TRY!

My family has been coming to Awesome Sushi for years and we absolutely love it. It's a small spot in kind of an unexpected location, so it would be easy to miss, but it's one of those hidden gems that's absolutely worth finding. The sushi rolls are always fresh and tasty, especially the Awesome Roll, which is my favorite. But honestly, the biggest reason we keep coming back is the people. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly, and the whole place has such a strong community feel. It really feels like family every time we walk in.

Awesome Sushi! What an experience to say the least. I came on a rainy night and it was bumping inside. Bumping to the point I saw the employees taking shots of alcohol with some of the guests. I don't know how professional that is... I raised my own concerns about food safety handling raw fish when under the influence. They were drinking quite a bit while I dined there. I ordered 4 rolls: Caterpillar roll Awesome roll Crunch roll I feel so lucky roll One order of egg rolls Milk tea Mango lemonade I did not try the caterpillars or crunch roll to comment on them. Neither the egg rolls. But the egg rolls say 4 pieces... they cut two regular egg rolls in half and called it 4 pieces. I had the I feel so lucky roll and I thought it was pretty good. It tasted like a saucier crunch roll. Of course the spicy mayo and eel sauce combo is a fave so it turned out really well. The awesome roll... is definitely for those that like sashimi. It's fish in and out so very very fishy. Nothing wrong with that. It just was not my forte. I had to def add ginger and wasabi to swallow it done. There was not really much flavor overall, just the texture and flavor of fish. I didn't finish the awesome roll and they took it off the bill. I thought that was really nice of them to do. The milk tea & mango lemonade were way too sweet for my liking. I thought there was definitely way too much sugar in it. Dial the sweetness back and I think they both would be really good. Service was quick, friendly, possibly under the influence. They have a parking lot leading to easy access to the establishment.

Always great to visit this local sushi spot. This restaurant is in my local sushi rotation if I'm ever having cravings. Services is always great, staff is always friendly, sushi fresh and yummy. It is on the small side inside as it shares the same space as a repair shop next door. Music is just about right to be able to hear your own conversation. Some roll and special rolls can get heavy on the sauce but that's why I recommend a roll that doesn't have sauce so you can dip it in there Make sure to save room for DESSERT!! Favorites: volcano roll, kaleidoscope cucumber roll, salmon carpaccio, snow roll, house special dessert

As usual- AMAZING!! Food is fresh, consistent, and delicious. Always great customer service from the whole crew. Happy chill atmosphere. There may be a wait due to the compact space but lots of parking available.

Awesome Sushi will forever be my favorite sushi restaurant. I've come here for years and have always seen the same chefs & staff, and they always go above and beyond to make my wife and I feel welcome. I want to give a particular note of gratitude to Nina, who has allowed me to read and study at the sushi bar over the years, spend my birthdays here, and has allowed us to stay past closing on date nights. Awesome is a restraunt, yes, but also feels like a safe space. Also, did you know they recently added sushi burritos to the menu? LOVE!

Decided to drop by and check out the menu and I was instantly greeted by the staff who were friendly and helpful. The ambiance is quaint with a clean environment. They look to have a wide menu of items to select from and the owner generously gave me a Thai coffee to go for just stopping by! I will definitely be back when I'm in the area.

Omg the Earthquake Roll is the bizz spicy imitation crab but it taste amazing like real crab, fried scallops with a sauce that's amazing. Service amazing very nice and inviting. Its a small personal place counter seat Service very nice this is sushi at its best .

Hadn't had Sushi in a while and since I'm out of town I'm like what the heck let's try out this spot. Let me tell you that it's not just the name it's literally awesome Sushi, delicious. Had one of them refreshers maybe I should've added boba to it; anyways couldn't stay for dessert but will be returning soon. Nice bar and well decorated.

BEST sushi in Long Beach! We've had Awesome Sushi a handful of times (a few times dining in, a couple take-out) and we're always so happy and full at the end of our meal. Perfect spot for a date night. The restaurant has such a cool vibe and is always clean inside. The staff is very kind and professional, and the food itself is innovative AND delicious. Our favorites are the Awesome Roll, Call Me Babe Roll, Crazy Cal Roll, Love Your Smile Roll, and the Destiny of Love Roll (pretty spicy mango sauce, but the flavor is so good). We also like the cucumber salad and the salmon sashimi as appetizers. We'll keep coming here until we leave Long Beach -- and then we'll miss it!

What can I say about the best sushi place in the area or in SoCal. I have been coming here for the past 7 years. Nina is exceptional... just like everyone else working here. Great atmosphere and awesome food just like the name. Definitely, I recommended it to my friends and family as the experience is great. Try their best seller, Awesome Sushi and every sushi rolls. And I also recommend the sashimi platter. Just try everything. read more

I absolutely love this sushi place! My boyfriend and I come here all the time for happy hour. They have really interesting rolls. Sushi is mediocre at best. If you normally eat sushi on a budget, then it can be awesome, but if you eat sushi on a regular basis and know what good sushi entails, then this is not a place for you. The flavor profile is good, however the freshness and quality of the ingredients are certainly lacking. Fish is not as fresh, the seaweed is a bit chewy and the rice was not soft as sushi rice is supposed to be. The sauces drizzled on the rolls were delicious, but not enough to over look all the other flaws. The staff was reserved and quiet, not the sushi environment I'm use to; however I did go early to have a late lunch/early dinner. Tried this place because of the high reviews, but will not return again. read more

This is a great place for happy hour. The staff is friendly and they have TV's in case I want to watch a game. I'm usually alone so I sit at the counter. Parking can get full but it is what it is. On to the food...it's really good and fresh. I often order 2 of the themes rolls and food doesn't take long to be served. I can't speak highly enough of the staff - everyone is very attentive. I've just relocated to this area and this is definitely going to become my regular spot. read more

We were in Long Beach for my step son's 21st birthday. Hit awesome sushi for dinner... We ordered at least 5 sushi plus appetizer, everything was good! Love the service. Everyone was polite and the amazing part is, it was happy hour.. cheaper on other food, beer and wine as well... love it! read more

We ordered four rolls: the 747, awesome, and 24/7 be happy, and showgirl. As well as an extreme scallop. The 747 had a light and refreshing flavor from the use of yuzu sauce. The awesome roll is a well rounded roll with cream cheese, and a kick at the end. The 24/7 be happy has a sweet unagi sauce, delgihtful imitation crab, and an outer layer with a crunch. The showgirl features a slightly crunchy, deep-fried outer layer, with insides that melt in your mouth. The extreme scallop was alright, in my opinion. The scallops were perfectly cooked but I feel the flavor would not match everyone's pallette. read more

The one star is for a variety of issues. First, there is a lack of cleanliness apparent upon entering...Second, chopsticks are reused (ok I get that is eco friendly) but the way servers were handling while resetting tables raised concerns. Third, the sushi bar has the glass partitions covered with tons of advertising and stickers and other portions are opaque so you cannot see the fish or the preparation by the chefs. BIG YELLOW FLAG!!! Fourth, and ultimately the deal killer was the sushi especially the rainbow roll just looked sad and not particularly fresh. Surface of the albacore was a bit dry like it had been exposed to air for a while. Also a very fishy flavor from the albacore. The pieces of fish were on the small side too. Luckily we cut our losses and didn't order after the nasty rainbow roll. Service is the ONLY strong point. Incredibly friendly and prompt staff. I wish they had access to better sushi because the girls who serve are very nice. We went back to our regular place on Lakewood and Willow and endures the 20 minute wait. The difference in quality is mind boggling. read more

My husband and I have been loyal customers of Awesome Sushi since 2010 (before kids). Over the last 6 years we've brought our two girls here for family meals numerous times. Lately, our 6 & 4 year olds have been requesting that we go eat Awesome Sushi. Tonight, I was extremely impressed with the Awesome Roll! My favorite sushi spot in Long Beach. Nena is like a local celebrity. The whole atmosphere and staff make this place so fun for dinner. Happy hour is awesome since the food is super cheap and great quality. We got takoyaki, an awesome roll, slot machine roll, and a few assorted sashimi all for less than $40. Sake bombs with Nena and the chefs is a must! I love supporting local restaurants like this. read more

I am a sushi fan, I like to try sushi all over. I found this restaurant in Yelp. I read these reviews some said good and some said worst ever. Should I try this place?? Last Saturday, my friends' family came over from Santa Babara, they visited us for 2 nights, they asked us to bring them for a dinner that night. We decided to go for the sushi. As i knew this place from Yelp, and it 's close to my house. We agreed to try this place see how it is. We walked in, very impressed, they yelled some word to us..something "Chai..ma See" sound like that..So loud, scared my kid, but we all laughed. A server brought us to the table, inside, it's small but nice atmosphere, I saw small patio outside as well. We ordered lot of food, we tried their food..Oh Not bad...It's GOOD. I felt something different. It's not the real Japanese food, I asked the chef, he told me, it 's the Japanese fusion mixed with the Thai spices, and a bit Italian ingredients. So that's why it 's different and I think people who stick with the original or regular sushi, they might don't like. I don't know.. but for us, we all love Awesome Roll, Earthquake, Fire Ant, Chef Signature..the one salmon sashimi with the green sauce, Seafood Salad, my kid loved Crunchy Roll..he told me he love it SO MUCHH. We almost done with the dinner, our server came by and offered us the Cheesecake Tempura for our dessert after meal..but we are full already..my kid said he wanted it, so we ordered and tried it..I thought it's strange but it's GREAT. I loved the appetizer with the softshell crab it was good priced with the interesting mango salsa . I especially enjoyed the salmon carpaccio . It was very tasty (: It was my favorite. It wasnt stingy either , they put caviar over it with that special sauce . The slot machine roll was interesting . It was shrimp tempura with avocado inside and topped with eel , and i love shrimp tempera and eel . The sweet sauce compliments it well. 747 roll was yummy . the albacore and avocado inside with tuna on top went well together . together with the sweet and sour sauce had a very delightful smell . the last one from the vegitarian menu (which is great for the non-meat lovers) is the yellow monster . with tempura carot and pumpkin topped with fresh mango , it doesnt sound like it would go together but it came out very good. for desert the tempura icecream , ofcourse who doesnt love one of those ? Bummed. It's NYE and wanted to treat myself to some sushi. I asked around the office today and this place came up multiple times. So, I decided to order though Postmates so I wouldn't have to deal with parking when I got back. I rarely use apps for food delivery.. this is why... I ordered 2 rolls totaling $46 and some change ($6-cash-for the driver) $52 -ish in all. (That's how bad parking is where I'm at, I admit I'm lazy too today) I ordered a "Vampire Roll" and "I feel so lucky roll". Oh, the irony because that's the roll that was completely wrong. The "Vampire Roll" was decent but I didn't finish it. The sauce was weird, tbh. I didn't even touch the other roll. I'm starving and wish I got a refund from the restaurant. Postmates offered me a credit (non cash value) for half. Happy New Year to me! Haha. Like I said, I never use apps and felt for the price.. not at all worth it. Not Impress! I read some good and bad reviews on Yelp and decided to give this place a benefit of a doubt. So I took my date here on a Friday night around 8pm and the place wasn't busy. There was one group of people at a table and a couple at a bar. I have to agreed with Melissa M. on the fake reviews. First, if you want to take your date to see the sunset, go to the beach. You can't see the sunset here (Nikki N.) unless you have x-ray vision to see through a kitchen wall. Waitress was friendly, I'll give you that, but try to concentrate on giving me some sort of service, instead of trying to be my friend. I mean, the place wasn't busy and yet we have to wait awhile before you can take our orders and having them served to us. You don't even need to cook the fish! I've been going to Awesome for a while now. After reading some of the other reviews I think they are mostly spot-on. Nina and the staff are awesome, even if they indulge occasionally! The patio is a bit useless due to the airport being next door, but the interior is clean, tidy and compact like a sushi place should be. My number one joy is their vegetarian options, the Yellow Monster roll top among them! The food is really good, prices are reasonable (especially if you happen by during happy hour or their upcoming anniversary event). Overall I'm really glad they are in the neighborhood with 2 other more traditional sushi places and they seem to be doing great! What can I say that the name of this place doesn't already state. Awesome sushi, awesome rolls, and the best service I've had at a sushi place hands down! Located on the corner of Clark and willow next to the smog check, this place has quality fish and accommodates all kinds of diets. Going low carb? I recommend the velvet voice (new favorite) and the tuna sashimi (generous cuts). The happy hour is awesome, and the price is moderate considering the food you get. The place is kinda small but is a world away when you step in. I have lived in Long Beach and used to be a patron of Sushi Studio until it burnt down. Luckly, near my place of business opened Awesome Sushi on Clark and Willow. If you are looking for excellent sushi you need to try this restaurant. I eat here at least once a week and have never been disappointed. I absolutely love this place. I go there a lot with my friends. The food is awesome and service is great. They also have the best happy hour menu. My favorite dishes are the Romeo & Juliet and Crunch Roll. The Salmon skin salad is pretty good also. As for dessert, I really recommend the Fried Banana Tempura. Very delicious. Came here out of the blue, the food was quite good. Fish was fresh, specials were unique. Our only disappointment was the setting. This place backs up to the runway at the Long Beach airport, we were kind of hoping to have a view of the planes landing. Maybe we are the only ones to think this, but given the location it seems they would want to use the landing planes as part of the ambiance. Really seemed like they designed the place to hide the proximity of the airport once you are inside. Oh well, food is still good, we'll return. read more

One thing I order every single time is the baked green mussels, and I have to say... they are FIRE. So flavorful, baked perfectly, and honestly one of those things I'm not willing to share lol. I've tried different items each time I've come, and I always leave satisfied. What really adds to the experience though is the service. The workers are always welcoming and attentive. Good sushi, a happy hour that actually has things you WANT to order, great service, and I leave happy every time. Definitely one of my Long Beach favorites!
