We loved coming to azabu to celebrate a couple of birthdays. We ordered a large quantity of rolls with all of them exceeding our expectations. The service was excellent! Our waiter was so professional, attentive, and social, which created a such a great experience for us. My only complaint was that it was very cold at our table, but a minor inconvenience as I would prefer a restaurant that serves fresh fish to be on the cooler side. I have to admit I was bummed out when the original Azabu closed down. I was a regular for years. When this new place popped up, I gave a shot. I've been here a few times and on one occasion I ran into the original owner!!! It's rare to go to a sushi restaurant with Japanese owners. I definitely missed Jose at the sushi bar. With that said, this new place is incredible. I've had the vip nigiri every single time, and it's incredible. They also have the premium nigiri, which I had twice on two different occasions...it literally melts in your mouth. Definitely make a reservation on their website. We arrived at 5pm and found street parking easily, but there is also a parking structure around the corner on Bright. We've been to many restaurants from New York to Hawaii. Never have we ever had sushi that is as amazing as Azabu quality. Tonight we were hosted and served by Patrick, he explained tastes and each serving as what it was. Patrick learned our tastes quickly, he knew what drinks we would like as he helped us pick our drinks and food throughout the night. The bus boy that was in attendance as well was very observant to when we needed our plates retreated. Second time here, and I have no complaints. I will say I did let a hostess know that the restrooms needed tidying and was returned with a very unprofessional response. 3 Stars mainly for the omakase experience. Azabu charges $200 per person which is considered pretty premium pricing, so I had VERY high expectations for it. The 1st course was sushi (came with 5 pieces on a plate) which started off with a bang and was the best course of the night - unfortunately this is also where everything started going downhill afterwards. 2nd course were rolls - the two handrolls served were not good, we didn't bother finishing them. 3rd course were the shooters which weren't bad but I didn't bother drinking the shots that came with them because I saw my friends struggling to keep it down due to how overly acidic the drinks were. 4th course - A5 Wagyu 3 ways was by far the worst course of the night. The dumplings were SO unbelievably salty we couldn't even finish it. The carpaccio was terrible too - very greasy and just too much unnecessary toppings on it imo. Hot Stone with shrimp and vegetables was the oddest dish of the night for an omakase meal. The broccolini and brussel sprouts were unnecessarily sweet and the shrimp was overly cooked and tough. Definitely felt like a filler meal. Dessert was the last course and came with 3 different items: green tea ice cream, mochi ice cream and several pieces of this chocolate sushi roll cake. Didn't care for the overkill of desserts to end the meal. Their omakase experience is waaaay too overpriced for the items and quality of the food they serve. The spacing of the meals also took too long. Many times we felt ourselves waiting what felt like 20 mins between our meals and trying to flag our server down. We also ordered hot tea and iced teas thinking it would be complimentary refills but instead were charged $5 per fill which they didn't even bother telling us. Overall 3.5 stars and if you come here I would recommend just ordering off their regular menu. read more
