    Chicken fried rice
    Mimi L.

A very stylish Japanese restaurant in uptown Whittier. We came in for a Sunday late dinner and chose to sit at the counter as usual. They have a solid cocktail menu and decent choices of sake. We ordered bottle of cold sake and Mezcal old fashioned. Both were very tasty. But I did think the cocktails were priced a bit high for this neighborhood. For food we had spicy tuna crispy rice, spicy edamame, truffle oil toro tartare, salmon sashimi, king crab hand roll and a few orders of nigiri sushi. The premium raw fish like bluefin, toro and uni were very fresh. The dishes looked beautiful as well. The chicken fried rice was filling and comforting. Our server was very attentive and friendly the entire time. It's great to have a beautiful upscale Japanese restaurant in this area. We will definitely visit again!

I've been wanting to try Azabu for years and I'm so glad I finally did! It's the type of restaurant that you'd think would be in LA. Instagram-able, cute bar, pretty lights, fun furniture. These were the items we had: - black crispy rice - 5/5 - sashimi pizza - 3.5/5 - Japanese scallop nigiri - 5/5 - yellowtail carpaccio - 5/5 - Denver roll - 5/5 - Geisha roll - 5/5 The reason I'm knocking down a star is because of the service. It took a bit for our server to greet us. She forgot to put in one of our rolls, she would forget or take a while to bring us some of our condiments, but she was nice.

Made reservations to take my husband to dinner for Father's Day since we've not been to Azabu's in years now that we live in Long Beach. This had to be a special occasion to make the drive. Aaaand yes! It was still worth the drive. Still looked the way i remembered. Service was great as well. Christine was our waitress. She was attentive and sweet. Despite that my lobster tail took a while to come out ( and if it wasn't for Christine being so helpful and nice I'm sure this would be a totally different review) Everything was so delicious. Started off with the spicy edamame which I could literally drink the sauce they make them in. We also had the crab hand rolls. Those were so warm and tasty! Followed by the yummy rolls. Queen roll with the strawberry on top was my fav! Azabu crunchy roll had a perfect crunch and gives you a mouthful of deliciousness (2nd fav) Then the rock n roll rocked our world! That was a party in my mouth with all the flavors. (3rd fav) We got the keto roll and the only reason it was my least favorite is because we felt the cucumber overpowered the sushi and mango. Both me and my husband ate just what was in the inside of the cucumber it was way better. We didn't eat the cucumber. When the lobster finally came luckily it was worth the wait!!! I highly recommend the lobster tail! Full of flavor! The butter my flavoring was mouth watering. Truly enjoyed every bite! Last but not least our dessert. I ordered the chocolate cake roll! Wow!!! It truly hit the spot. Christine also brought a berry ice cream for the long wait of my lobster tail. It was so good! I thought I was full but it was so good I kept on eating it. This was a great way to celebrate my husband for Father's Day. Thank you Azabu's and Christine!

Whittier, CA - Definitely one of my fav restaurants in LA. Creative menu with great flavors and presentation, fresh seafood, great service and nice ambiance. Prices aren't low but the quality is there so I personally think it's worth it. It's become the meetup spot with my girlfriend for the holiday season now, I guess! We ordered 6 items and they were all enjoyable. The toro tartare had one of the best tartare flavors I've had - quail egg, caviar and just a hint of truffle oil. The azabu crunch was so good - the nori wasn't soggy at all. The Fuji roll was just packed with fresh raw fish, their version of rainbow roll I guess but with more fish. Can't skip the Spanish octopus - so flavorful and soft. And omg the king crab hand roll was bomb. They used some crunchy white wrap (not nori) and the crab with the sauce and perfectly- cooked rice just made me wanna get a second order. Service was great. Our server came to check on us at the right time. Our cups were never empty. It's not crazy crowded even during the weekends and it's easy to find parking. They allowed booking on OpenTable too. Just a perfect evening!

I first came to this place the first week they opened and the person making our sushi was so nice ! We sat at the sushi bar and they were quick with putting our sushi out for us. Since then I've been way too many times but for all the best reasons for happy hour, birthday celebration, new job celebration and life. The food is so fresh and delicious I always make sure to get the fried rice with chicken and an egg. Even if I'm full I take it to go! I am not sure what they put in that stuff but it's DELICIOUS! I've gotten amazing service from the moment I've walked up from the host to the everyone inside. I've also had several drinks from the menu but the Sweet Suika is my go to drink. I can't wait to go this week for date night.

Azabu Sushi - Whittier, CA 1/2 (I docked half a star purely out of spite because I can't afford to eat here every day) I walked into Azabu expecting the usual Whittier sushi experience: decent fish, questionable rice, and a lingering fear that the "spicy tuna" might just be yesterday's salmon wearing hot sauce as war paint. Instead I was immediately hit with a vibe that says, "Yes, we know we're in a strip mall next to a boba place, but we're about to ruin you for grocery-store California rolls forever." Let's start with the Salmon Carpaccio (the flat pizza-looking thing in the photo). Imagine if salmon had a glow-up, went to Coachella, and came back wearing citrus ponzu as body glitter and microgreens as a flower crown. It's so pretty I almost felt bad eating it. Almost. Then I inhaled the entire plate in 45 seconds like a savage who'd never seen raw fish before. Zero regrets. The texture is silkier than my ex's lies. Next up: the Shrimp Gyoza in that dark, mysterious broth. These dumplings show up swimming in what I can only describe as "umami bathwater." One bite and I involuntarily whispered "oh daddy" -- which was awkward because I was on a date with my actual father. The wrappers have that perfect pan-seared crisp before collapsing into the sauce like they owe it money. I'd bathe in that broth if it weren't socially unacceptable (and if the staff weren't watching me like I'm one impulse away from grabbing a straw). Portions are annoyingly civilized -- translation: you'll want to order three of everything and then lie about being full so you look refined. Pro tip: don't. Just commit to the food coma. Your jeans will forgive you eventually. Service is ninja-level attentive without being obnoxious. Our server knew the menu like he personally caught the fish at 4 a.m. while doing CrossFit. When I asked what was good he just smirked and said "everything," which should've been arrogant but was 100% correct. Rude. Ambiance? It's dark, moody, and sexy in a way that makes you want to use chopsticks seductively even though you still hold them like a toddler with crayons. Only complaint: the bill. It arrives looking innocent, then you realize you just paid Beverly Hills prices in a city where the biggest landmark is a 24-hour donut shop. Worth it? Absolutely. Will I be eating cup noodles for the next week? Also yes. Verdict: Azabu is the sushi spot Whittier doesn't deserve but desperately needed. If you're still going to the conveyor-belt place down the street after eating here, I'm afraid we can no longer be friends. 9.5/10 -- would sell a minor organ to come back tomorrow.

Came by on a Friday night and it was busy. We didnt have reservations but we were lucky to get a table outside. Our server - Natalia was the best. She was so nice and welcoming. She gave us drink and menu suggestions. Everything she recommended was on point. The food was delicious- the fish tasted freshly prepared and the rolls were unique and tasty. Our cocktails were delicious and strong. The lychee martini isn't on the menu, but its the perfect dessert after your meal. Everything about this place was great - vibes, food, and drinks. But what really stood out was the great service we got. Very attentive and efficient. Highly recommend trying this place.

Well well well. Another restaurant that is aesthetically, pleasing, and meals to match. I came here for a quick drink before I attend to other matters. Whej I walked in I was greeted immediately, they held the door open for with a smile. I love great hospitality. I sat at the bar and was helped right away. Will definitely come back here.

Was invited to a meeting at Azuba and we were seated in a private room , decor of the room was very cool and interesting. The service was on point , great staff and they were very courteous. The food was good and the presentation was excellent. I just wish that the music was at a volume that you could have a conversation at,

Wow.... Just wow. Azabu made us feel like the queens that we are. We were literally catered to and food was delicious. We were also given advice on what sake to try and it did not disappoint. The vibe was super chill but Saturday night vibes for sure. You better dress to impress when you show up here! Candle lit dinner with beautiful dressed up food. Everyone was super kind and just over all a wonderful experience. This sparked up my fine dining urge to find more restaurants that service as Azabu does. Thank you for having me.

Came here for a quick dinner date with my husband. We did not have a reservation, and were seated in the outdoor patio, which was still pretty. The place looked elegant and classy. Looked like it is definitely a date night spot as there were a lot of couples. Service was great, our waitress was lovely. My husband and I ordered the Keto roll and the Seafood pasta to share. Food was just, okay. Underwhelming, if you ask me. Drinks were also okay. Worth the try, even if it's just once.

Matcha cocktail (forgot the full name) - so good.

Just celebrated my birthday here with some friends and it was all our first time here. The rolls and cocktails were all so delicious!! Amazing cocktails, really. Diego, our server, was excellent, kind and attentive. It was a great start to the night! Great vibes and I recommend for date nights and special outings.

My husband and I visited a couple of weeks ago to celebrate our anniversary, and we were not disappointed. Making a reservation through OpenTable was quick and easy, which set the tone for a smooth evening from the start. When we arrived, we were welcomed by warm, moody lighting and a friendly host who seated us right away. Our server, Rashad, introduced himself and helped us choose drinks based on our preferences, which we really appreciated. We started with the carpaccio platter and the black crispy rice--both were excellent and definitely worth ordering. We also shared three signature rolls, and every one of them was delicious. Throughout the evening, Rashad was attentive and personable, making thoughtful recommendations and ensuring we had everything we needed. The entire staff contributed to the experience--everyone who delivered our dishes was friendly, and a special shoutout to the busser who promptly cleared empty plates so our table never felt crowded. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience. You can truly tell the staff works as a team to create a memorable experience for their guests. I highly recommend it for a special dinner date with friends or your significant other.

We were specifically looking for somewhere with a great price, good food, and a private room where our family could sit together and spend some time after the service. This place checked all the boxes! The Pollo Al Limone was easily one of my favorites. It's chicken breast with capers, shallots, and a lemon sauce, and the chicken was cooked PERFECTLY--tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The lemon sauce had that perfect balance of tanginess without overpowering the chicken, and the capers added a nice little salty kick. Definitely a dish I'd order again. The Tortellini Di Ricotta E Spinaci Alla Panna was another favorite at the table. The tortellini was filled with ricotta cheese and paired with mushrooms, spinach, and a creamy sauce. Super comforting and rich without being too heavy, and the combination of the mushrooms and spinach worked really well with the cream sauce. This was one of those dishes where everyone kept taking "just one more bite." We also tried the Rigatoni Bolognese, which came with rigatoni and a meat sauce. The only thing I noticed was that there weren't any protein in the dish. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing, just something worth mentioning. The service was honestly amazing. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, attentive, and accommodating, which made a big difference considering we were there with a large family after a funeral. The staff made us feel comfortable and never rushed us, and the private room was a HUGE plus for our group. The restrooms were also clean, which is always something I pay attention to when reviewing a restaurant. As far as the ambiance goes, the private room itself was pretty simple--there wasn't really any music or entertainment playing--but honestly, that worked perfectly for our situation. We were able to sit together, talk, laugh, reminisce, and spend time with each other without having to compete with loud music or a crowded dining room. We basically set the tone ourselves. Overall, I'm really glad my family discovered this place. What started as a restaurant we chose because of the private room and reasonable pricing turned into a surprisingly great meal with some really delicious dishes. The Pollo Al Limone and Tortellini were definitely the standouts for me, and the friendly service made the entire experience even better. Definitely a place I'd consider coming back to, especially for a family gathering or special occasion where having a private space is important. Sometimes the best restaurant discoveries are the ones you never even knew existed!
