Updating my review because I had the chicken shawarma and lamb shawarma plate and this place is amazing! The meat is perfectly cooked -- very flavorful without having a raw gamey taste other places often have. Service is solid. I can attest this is definitely one of Boston's hidden treasures and entire menu is Halal. Can confirm there is sitting area -- definitely casual. Will be back very soon, I want to try other parts of their menu.

Had a takeout of their beef kabob rice plate. The kabobs were good, just a little bitter from the chars on the side. But it's good. Their fries were okay but their toum sauce was brilliant! The rice was literally 40 percent cooked. :( I had a small hair in my hummus side (I look forward to this the most :( )

Kafta! Falafel (Egyptians use fava beans). A new Boston favorite!

Wow wow. What a great place to awaken the tastebuds! We love middle eastern food, but this place sets itself above most we frequent. Everything in wonderfully powerful. They love the spices. We will love revisiting this place often!

Came here after a late night out with friends. The chicken is shawarma and hummus hit the spot!! I was irritated because I lost my jacket tag, but I found this shop to wait in and it was brightened my mood! Pita is crispy and shawarma is super tasty!! Would definitely come back

Such a good place to get a shawarma roll up. I know this place for over 8 years now. The taste of the food never changed. It is still the same rich flavor that they always use. I just became their regular again. I stop by 2-3 times a week. I would recommend you getting the baklava. It will melt in your mouth. The kebab dinner is great as well. The only negative experience you may have is that there isn't a private parking lot (there is one but it belongs to the hardware store next door. You can use it at your own risk). It's street parking only. Daniel K

The tartness of the lemon was balanced perfectly with the savory elements of the dish. The homemade phyllo dough is to die for. Baked to a perfect crisp, and full of bready aromas. Tsoureki (9/10): This sweet bread was also amazing. The whipped cream was delicious and tasted homemade. The maple yogurt was also delicious, adding just the right amount of acidity to cut through the sweetness of the dish. Breakfast Hilopites (7/10): Very unique dish. Our waitress described it as a "breakfast carbonara." The sausage was the best part of this dish. The pasta was tasty as well. Saganaki (3.5/10): The fried cheese is way too greasy. It comes in the pan, so there's a pool of grease still at the bottom. We had this dish last, and it felt like a bad way to finish the meal. The cheese itself was delicious (the nuts too), but the dish still lacked something to cut through the grease. Loukanikopita (8/10): The sausage was really good. All their phyllo dishes are awesome. The yogurt was good as well. Hortopita (7.5/10): Also a great phyllo dish. Yogurt was great. Loved the addition of dill. Souvla & Eggs (8/10): Lamb was very tender. Cooked and seasoned well. I think it was a tad too salty, though. The salad was light and refreshing, with a nice touch of acidity. Strapatsada (7/10): Solid dish. Not a must-order, but I did enjoy all the flavors and textures melding together. The sourdough was solid. We also had the Vlacha Cola, which was crisp and refreshing. Service is very friendly. I would definitely come back. I would say it's better than their sister restaurant, Krasi.

The beef cheek, on the other hand, had a mild but good taste, and the meat was very, very tender. The 6-dip spread was a fun experience and probably one of the more memorable things to order if you are with other people. The feta was definitely the best dip by far, while the others were okay. One thing to keep in mind is that you have to order bread separately, which is worth knowing before you commit to the dips. Overall, I still enjoyed the meal, but it felt a little mixed. There are some dishes I would gladly get again, and others I would skip.

I was very excited for the owner Joseph because the original restaurant was a small diner which was so cozy and convenient. The new place is spacious, lofty and it looked very contemporary chic with lots of tables and the staff doubled. The food was consistently good and I tried lamb chops this time and next time I'll make sure I have it at medium rare. I tried the beet mezze for the first time and that was very delicious. The halva dessert is good as always , but this time that I tried their baklava as my husband's birthday cake and they were so gracious to sing happy birthday to him. Very lovely time and of course loved their complementary tea at the end. Good for digestion. Will be back again. I loved it and I'm really happy to see the restaurant's growth!

We shared the triple mix platter for two people, and the portion size was already pretty good. The meat was super flavorful, and I really liked the lamb specifically. Everything tasted fresh and high quality. We sat at the bar and the service was excellent. We asked the server a lot of questions, and they were very friendly and took the time to answer all of them. I would love to come back and try the family plate with more people in the future. The combination of the great service and the generous portions makes this a standout spot for Mediterranean.

Vanak is small, with only 6 tables, though we noticed a brisk take out trade during our 3 hour visit. Vanak is not fancy and one needs to know that a visit here is entirely about great Persian fare. Be prepared to either wait for a table or to settle for take out. Reservations are strongly recommended. Vanak has an impressive menu covering beef, lamb, chicken, fish, and vegetarian dishes. Everything is authentic and is served with a more than generous portion of rice. The difference in dishes isn't just the protein; there are at least ten different seasoned rice on offer. Our entrees were shared by four people and three dishes were more than enough. The Lamb Shank with Fava Bean and Dill Rice is exceptional. The shank was slow simmered and the ample amount of meat was melt-in-your mouth delicious. The Dill Rice is uniquely seasoned and we highly recommend this dish. Chicken with Barberry and Saffron Rice is another interesting dish. The quarter chicken is also slow cooked and nicely savory. The Barberry adds an interesting taste profile to what would otherwise be a standard Persian dish. No Persian meal would be complete without Koobideh Kababs and Vanak's rendition is very nicely seasoned. The Kababs were served on a bed of Sangak, the rustic Perisan wheat bread. We finished with baklava which was topped with chopped pistachios and Saffron ice cream. The servings here are authentic and generously portioned. Vanak offers a unique change of pace for lunch which we recommend.
