Mumtaaz! Azama has brought the great flavors and food of his grandmother's kitchen in Cairo to Allston. I have traveled through much of the Middle East, and have been around the U.S. and Europe trying various Falafel, Kebab, Shawarma, etc. The lamb/beef Shawarma at Azama was truly excellent, hot, freshly made (essential), delicious, enormous (15in rollup!), and a great bargain at $5.45! You must try Azama's homemade harissa, having had quite a few store-bought and others, I have to admit this is one of the best harissa hot sauce's I have had before. Azama even gave us a free sample of his delicious (homemade I presume) Basbousa. Good guy, good food, good prices. Open until 3AM, takes credit cards ($10 minimum). The hummus was the best in the neighborhood - better than Garlic 'N Lemons or Rami's. Unlike at Garlic 'N Lemons, where the falafel sits in a tray for hours at a time waiting for customers to come in, at Azama they cook it fresh and to order. Azama Grill is a great place where you will find delicious food for very affordable price. Last time I went there I had the best Lentil Soup ever (The Best). It's very tasty, with just the right amount of spices. I also tried Chicken Shawarma Rollup and the price was just $5.45!!! WOW!!! My roll up was very delicious, fresh and clean. Azama is amazing. Their french fries are to DIE for! I work just down the street and I was so happy to find such a tasty place to find falafel in the area. I love falafel. In my college days I would eat falafel once a week from a place called Pauly's Pockets in NH. I used to think that no other place could beat Pauly's yummy confection until I tried Azama. On top of it all, their customer service is impeccable. We had our food delivered and they forgot our soda. The delivery man returned with our sodas, free dessert and a very apologetic attitude! I decided to try this place because it was late and my go to shawarma place was closed. To start it was absolutely disgusting inside. I should have taken the lack of cleanliness as a clue. I then waited a half hour for my food even though I was the only customer. I ordered chicken and when I got home I saw they had given me beef. After spending 7 weeks in Europe and eating a healthy diet of Shwarma in every city I stayed in, it was tough to come home and try and find the same taste, quality and price as the places overseas. Then one night after a night on the town a friend of mine told me I had to try Azama Grill. I had seen it for a while occupying the space that once was Pizzawings. Well, after a few bites of my first lamb shwarma I was hooked. The lamb was moist, super tender and beyond flavorful. The pita wrap was fresh and pressed hot to perfection. I had to try other menu options. The spinach and meat pies were flavorful, spiced perfectly and the dough was awesome, fluffy and easy to chew. A perfect take away, on the run snack. The falafal is beyond incredible. Most other falafal I've had is dry and flavorless, not here at Azama. The exterior was crisp while the inside was moist. In a work, perfect. Also, if you like spicy, I highly recommend getting anything with their signature spicy sauce. I don't know how they make it but I would love to have a large container of it sitting in my fridge. This is the first place I ever delved into middle eastern cuisine. Unfortunately it has spoiled me and Everywhere else I go seems to pale in comparison to Azama. Always delicious. My advice is to try items other than the shwarma, although the shwarma is always yummy. The foul plate is really good comfort food when its cold out :) The only thing I'm not a fan of is the kabobs- I don't like the big cubes of chicken or lamb. I went here midday, the place was empty and the guy was very friendly and offered me a free sample. I ordered the chicken kabob plate and a side order of falafels. He said I could pay after. I like this. It is like he is assuring the quality of the meal. The meal comes and wow it is a lot of food but they got the order wrong and gave me lamb instead of chicken. I brush it off because it looks so good. The lamb was kinda fatty but then again lamb is a fatty meat, those lazy lambs. The falael was weird. It is a different style then I'm used to. I prefer falafel kings falafels, probably because they are deep fried or something. Wow, this place blew my mind. I went twice in one week. Everything smelled so good when I walked in and the staff was super friendly and very helpful. They even gave me a free dessert while I was waiting. The first time I went I just got a Falafel Rollup and some hummus. Both were great. But, I also picked up food for 4 of my coworkers and realized the Shawarma was the way to go. They were all doing the happy dance. So, a few days later I drove from Wakefield on a mission to try the Chicken Shawarma. As soon as I walked in the wonderful man behind the counter recognized me from my first trip. This makes me happy. He even remembered what I ordered. OMG, the Chicken Shawarma was amazing. The flavors exploded. My room mate got the Beef and Lamb Shawarma and absolutely love it. The azama combo came with Egyptian salad which was very refreshing, tabouli which was nice, really good fresh hummus and baba ganouj (perfectly smoky), 2 falafel balls (crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, not greasy), a huge mound of chicken shwarma (really flavorful, not suuper fatty, had these onions and tomatoes that added great flavor) and pita bread. The Lamb plate had a very nice pilaf and a huge quantity of nice tender cubes of lamb. It was also server with yhe salad and pita. I ordered a salad with chicken and when it arrived without chicken it took them another hour and a half to deliver the meat.
