Man, was this a gold mine find. I had a taste for ice cream and a sundae, and then I thought about churros, so we decided to look up a combination and found this place. What better items could you ask for than churros and ice cream? I guess maybe some fresh fruit would have been nice, but this was lovely and hit the spot. They definitely serve you with more churros than needed. I ended up eating some of the churros the next morning for breakfast. If you're thinking about this place and have read this far, I would suggest stopping by and checking them out. Feliz Día de San Valentín! My second visit to Azucanela Churrería only reinforced why I love this spot! Their Churro Corazón was the perfect Valentine's Day dessert. I loved that it was heart-shaped--it was the cutest dessert ever! Not only was it beautiful, but it was also absolutely delicious. The churro was crispy, golden, and coated in just the right amount of cinnamon sugar, then topped with sweet vanilla ice cream and fresh strawberries. This is such a cute neighborhood place tucked away on the border of the cities Lomita and San Pedro. I wanted to get a hot chocolate on a cold evening with the hubby. He got a decaf latte with oat milk that was delish. Decor is cute with IG potential. There are a few couches, tables, and chairs to sit indoor and enjoy your drink. Also, there are a few games like loteria, Jenga, and colored pencils for the artsy folks that want to draw on their own materials. Outdoor seating is fenced off in the back with cute painted flowers and artificial grass. (Photos to be posted shortly.) Azucar is a Spanish word for sugar. Canela is Spanish for cinnamon. Their namesake indeed has the sweet beverages and snacks available. There are also savory breakfast snack items on the menu. Drove from Downtown Long Beach over the bridge to San Pedro, right on Western and a little past Palos Verdes Drive, I arrived at this coffee house and churreria. If you weren't looking for it, its very possible to miss it this little storefront. Although, it already brightens up the block with its colorful mexican paint scheme. Walking inside, I could already see the attention to detail in celebrating mexican culture. There is art all over the place and the colors and wood do make you feel of beautiful mexico. Going up to the counter to order, they have a great deal of coffee drinks with mexican flavors from cafe de olla to different flavored cafe lattes to mexican hot chocolates. one of the reasons I came her was to satisfy my churro cravings. And they offer so many different types of churros. I opted for the the more traditional churros and they were amazingly delicious They come to like 5 or 6 in a box. I got my coffees and my churros and made my way to their back patio. This is such a magical place to sit and relax and enjoy your food and drinks. It is very peaceful. There are colorful mexican papel picado strewn across the top decorating the open air patio area. I really felt like I was in Mexico for a moment in time. The reason I did not get 5 stars and only gave 4 is they list their churros as traditional but they do not offer melted chocolate to dip their churros in. They do have other flavors but not melted chocolate. It is very odd to me that in Barcelona I can get churros and melted chocolate all day, but go to a place that represents Mexico that invented chocolate and adopted the Spanish churro you would think its a no brainer. Unfortunately, many mexican churrerias opt for using cheap nestle or hershey chocolate syrup to drizzle over churros and that is disappointing to me and does a disservice to "traditional" churros and the land that invented chocolate. read more

What I loved about this spot is seeing your traditional Mexican drinks with a vegan twist! We both got Cafe de Ollas with Almond Milk or Oat Milk. Absolutely delicious. These were not sweet and were filled with just delicious flavor! Then we ordered the churros which were vegan. Don't let that fool you - they were by far the best churros I've had. Had to drop off my brother at SoFi Stadium and wanted to find a place to get some work done before heading home. Saw this place had caffeine options and was sold! PARKING: Literally just one or two spaces in front of the shop. Definitely go into the neighborhood to park then walk over. WHAT I ORDERED: Iced horchata latte THE DRINK: Pretty standard - the espresso wasn't mindblowing or anything, but this was a delicious latte and I'd definitely order it again. SERVICE: Very friendly and willing to answer questions. VIBES: GREAT vibes! It was a little cold when I went so I didn't sit in the outdoor area, but it's gorgeous and super aesthetic - would be nice to hang with some friends there. The inside is a bit more intimate, but there are outlets and wifi which make it great for working. The space is big inside and definitely room for teleworking, studying, or meeting with a friend or business meeting. My favorite spot is the additional patio space that's also eloquently painted with a beautiful sun and has a backdrop of faux plants. Best coffee ever! I'm happy there's an Azucanela closer to my house now. The mazapan latte with soy milk is my go to! It's AMAZING...like best coffee I've ever had amazing. I wish this place opened earlier in the day so I could stop by before work. The woman who made my coffee this morning was lovely. I've seen this place a few times now and I finally got to stop by to see it. I fell in love with it as soon as I walked in! I grew up spending my summers in Mexico with my family and this made me feel so nostalgic and "homesick" in a good way. The whole place is a vibe and I loved the music playing in the background. If I had to sum up this location in one word, it would be ... amazing!!!! Straight across the boards - service, cleanliness, efficiency, and freshness. This was my first time at this location. I've been to the Hawthorne one, but I prefer this location, by far. Love the service and how the churros are made to order. I got the Churro Bites with Cajeta and it was YUM! I never would've guessed that this adorable place exists in Lomita. It's bright and cozy and there's outdoor space as well. We ordered the churro bites, traditional churros, and strawberry horchata. Our dipping sauces were caramel, raspberry, and abuelita (like a chocolate whipped cream). The churros had a good flavor, but were just a little dense for our liking. Horrible first experience from a Latino restaurant. Once we got there at 7:15PM (They close at 8PM), we waited for 15 minutes for the blonde girl to come out from the room in the back even tho we kept saying "Hello." FYI no one was in line. We were the only customers waiting to get their order taken. The lady didn't even asked for a moment or saying that they were busy. She just ignored us for a almost 20 minutes. There is bell to get the attention of the employee if they are in the kitchen or in the back room. Once she gave us the order, she just threw the items on the countertop, we never got greeted with a Hi, or an Enjoy! after thanking her the for giving the food with an awful attitude. Cafe de Olla was super water down. Churro bites were just bland, cold, and not appetizing like they show on the photos. I paid a total of $21.99 for this horrible experience. Ambience was disappointing. The restaurant is just dirty, couch has stains, and there is just so much echo/empty space in the waiting/dining area. Restaurant lacks creativity. read more

What a unique place Azucanela is! I stopped in for a few hours one Sunday evening to get some work done on my laptop and had a productive and delicious experience :) I ordered a pistachio latte which was delicious and not too sweet - it tasted kind of like almond which I guess is pretty similar to pistachio! I also ordered the churros with Mexican caramel, which were so fresh and rich. I don't have the biggest sweet tooth, but I was a big fan of these. The caramel was buttery and smooth, and it tasted homemade (which I'm sure it is). The buttery caramel complimented the fresh, warm churros very pleasantly. Staff was very nice and offered to turn down the music since I was the only one there and was working on my computer. It was a little dimly lit at night, but I'm sure it's lively and bright during the day! I definitely plan on being back. Great drinks, fresh delicious Churros, friendly staff & a fun colorful shop with plenty of seating inside and a very IG worthy back patio. Plus, they are open till 8pm weekdays & 9pm Sat & Sun!!! Rare to find in a coffee shop :) My Son had the Iced Marzipan Latte & Churro Bites, I had the Horchata Latte & Butter Cake. Everything was 5-Stars!!! The drinks are rich & lush but not overly sweet, the fresh Churro bites are as good as I've ever had and the Butter Cake came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream & fresh sliced strawberries... Sooooooo yum!!! Definitely recommend but you must have the Churros on your first visit :) Above the counter it says "Cafecito & Chisme" (Coffee & Gossip) and Azucanela is the perfect spot to sit and have a leisurely visit with friends. I kind of hope it stays a hidden gem and doesn't become full of people, because that is probably what's gonna happen. What they do is they take lattes and other coffee orientated drinks and put their own spin on it, making them really-really good! They also have a few great food items. When I say what they do here is really good, I'm not exaggerating. Their coffees, other drinks, and foods items are all created in a truly unique and very tasty fashion. Perhaps one of the best things about this business is that they have a really great space to sit back and enjoy your drinks or your food. What a treat and gem Azucanela is in the South Bay! I've been wanting to stop by this dessert spot for a while and I'm so glad I finally did. I absolutely LOVED the churro filled with cajeta. Very sweet but perfect when you have a sweet tooth and guilt-free (or less guilt lol) when you share this treat with a friend! I came into Azucanela last week for a quick snack and drink to take to the movies. The lovely lady who attended to us was named Elizabeth. She is a great employee who offered us 5 star service. We were on limited due to the new movie Beetle Juice starting 12:45. She let us know each order is made fresh to order and she would get us out in time for the movie. We each ordered churro bites, one with Carmel and the other with raspberry. The taste was perfect, the texture of the churros was amazing. Parking can be a little tricky. They have seating on the back patio as well of a small couch inside with a small kids size table. We normally go to the Hawthorne location on Inglewood Ave but parking is slim to none there, I will definitely come back to the Lomita location.
