Beef ribs
Sadiya A.

This is an update from my previous review where it was a take out order. This visit was dine in and food has consistently stayed the same. This is the "go to" bbq spot when in town, it was very busy for Saturday lunch time so we did spend time in line but after placing our orders, we were getting our food pretty quickly. They call your number to pick up your food from the counter so you do need to pay attention when they call out your number. The portions are big as well!

Came in on a bus tour. 20+ people! Service was excellent and good very good food, such large portions. I had 2 meat plate, brisket and 1 pork rib. So much meat was able to share with someone who "only" got ribs. Everyone loved the smoke level on meat and many took food in takeaway containers enough for another meal. Sides varied from creamed corn, green beans, coleslaw (a big hit) and hot crispy French fry's! Parking looked reasonable in private lot

Thursday lunch special: brisket, sausage, creamed corn and Cole Slaw

Delicious. This is Texas barbecue. No need for the barbecue sauce to bring flavor, it's all in the meat. The brisket was tender, juicy, and smoked to perfection. The sausage was lean and packed with flavor. The cream corn is unique - it's sweet and creamy and has a roux that's compliments the corn perfectly. The Cole slaw is just classic, good country slaw. You order and pay, so there's really no "service" beyond the register interaction. The space fills quickly, but it's a constant flow so it's not too hard to find a seat. This was my second time here. I'll be back!

Full rack ribs & quart of lean brisket

Sweet tea 10/10 Pork ribs were juicy, flavorful and a great size. The full rack came with 12 ribs. My brisket was lean and had a good salty dry rub. Green & Coleslaw beans were 7/10 Great southern service and large seating area for bigger groups.

Brisket "Lean" or "Deckled" and Turkey

Service was excellent, I had never been and asked for advice. The front end gal was very helpful. The inside has enough seating for everyone, unless it's busy. I ordered a four meat platter. Got some ribs, a whole chicken, turkey, and some brisket. Some beans and coleslaw for the sides. The ribs....meh. A little dry and lacking meat. The chicken was great, as was the brisket. The turkey was the best thing they had. I know y'all from Texas like that BBQ sauce but that vinegar bbq sauce is something to be desired. I for one was not a fan. I would buy the meat next time and get my own sauce.

Was in San Antonio on business, my colleagues and I were looking for some good Texas BBQ. B&B was highly recommended by other colleagues that live in the area. Once we arrived and walked up to the counter it was like you felt at home. The lady behind the counter was very friendly and was able to put together entrées for us that wasn't really on the menu. The hometown vibe was nice especially when you're out of town traveling. The brisket and ribs were excellent, really good BBQ! B&B keep up the good work!

Wowowow it took us way too long to try this place out & B&Bs did not disappoint!! Food is 10/10 Service: we waited in line for about 5 minutes Brisket is super tender, Turkey is really good as well! Can't wait to be back

Drive thru

I had the taste of BBQ. Pork to be exact. A coworker frequents this place and when I realized it was 30 min away in SA traffic, I figured I'd likely not go anytime soon. But on this day, I really wanted a pork bbq sandwich with slaw on top and some fries. I decided to look the menu up and saw they had a pork po boy, so I decided to finally take the ride. Well, I arrived to disappointment because the pork was blacked out on the drive thru menu. Dang! I was not a happy camper but I decided since I came all this way...in my Denzel voice... I'ma leave here with somethin'. I decided on a 2 meat plate (ribs and white meat chicken quarter) with potato salad and cream corn. It didn't take very long for my order so customer service is a big plus here. The person at the window/voice box was helpful and polite. I grabbed my plate and prepared for my trek back to the North - but not before I punched off that rib. Listen! If you don't eat anything else there, get the ribs. They are tender and pull from the bone so easily. Surprisingly, the white meat chicken was juicy and tender as well (not so much the second trip though). The potato salad was good but I like to see and taste egg in my potato salad. If it had egg in it, it was either incredibly fine or barely there. The corn was really good. The lemonade tastes homemade and it was really good. Overall it's been a pleasant experience each time I've gone (3 times now). The only thing I wish was different - I really wanted that pork po boy AND it would be nice if a good Mac & cheese was on the menu. I

I love B&Bs bbq so good I always get the chop brisket baked potatoe or the special they have I'm always full after leaving. everything is so delicious and the service is great the staff is friendly and welcoming at the register and window from my experience. The ambiance is wood western vibes and family friendly.

The sausage was great.

What a confusing place. When we got here, there was people waiting outside. Man we thought it was going to be great if there was people waiting to eat inside.!WRONG. Like wrong wrong. Perplexing that anyone would wait for doors to open here. Why am I so harsh? The brisket was bad. Like bill millers is better bad. I think that is the first time I have ever said it. Only dickies was worse. Dry, no bark or flavor. Like not even the bbq sauce could save it. The bbq sauce was sweet and no kick of spice. We had a 1/2lb brisket, 1/2 turkey, 1/2 chicken, and a serving of sausage. For sides we had cream corn and green beans. Also had a salad with turkey. The salad was huge, but severely lacking any balance. Tons and tons of greens, but little of anything else. I mean salads are normally more greens, but this was ridiculous. The chicken was ok. Not bad. Not dry. The turkey and sausage were by far the favs. The sausage especially. Man it was quite good. One of the better ones I've had. The green beans were fresh, but again lacked the better flavors from other places. Bill millers green beans again are better. Man I honestly can't believe I'm saying bill millers is better than anyone. Listen, I'm not saying bill millers is super horrible. In Texas bbq is a religion. You have to stand out. This place is not it. The cream corn was standard. Also the onions could've used a lot more pickling. Was also a little pricey. Very overrated. Just go up the road to the pollos asados place. We were so disappointed as we drove by the pollos asados place and wish we had stopped there instead. Do not recommend coming here if you've been anywhere near the bbq trail in Texas.

I have never eaten here - this review is based on a pick up to bring back and enjoy for an office meeting to feed 20 people I have to say the food was absolutely fantastic! The bbq sauce was delicious. Highly recommend if you're looking for good bbq and variety!!

Lunch chicken special which comes with 2 sides . I got creamed corn and greenbeans.

Service was fast when we went. It gets busy fast, but the wait isn't too bad. The ambiance is casual. Order first, then seat yourself, but you see people getting tables first before ordering even though there's a sign that states otherwise. Food comes out pretty fast. It's fresh. The cream corn is delicious, and so is the brisket sandwich. Now my favorite. The chicken is tender, moist, juicy paired with their barbecue sauce it's perfect. Lunch specials come with a medium-sized drink and can upsize for pocket change literally. I'm in helotes area and drive to the restaurant, which is a bit of a drive. I definitely recommend. If you are military, you do get a discount or if it's your birthday.

After a few recommendations, I finally had a chance to stop into this clearly popular Southside barbecue establishment. The parking lot was full with even a few cars roaming around looking for a spot. Luckily, I noticed a drive-thru, so there I went. After some deliberation at the large outdoor menu board, I ordered the two meat plate - brisket and sausage, along with potato salad and pinto beans. Since I had noticed other reviews referencing beef ribs, I was disappointed to learn they no longer carried them, nor did I notice them on the menu board. To start, the portion of sausage was big, but the portion of brisket was really lacking. I doubt it was even 1/4 lb. While the brisket was tender, it wasn't very smoky, although the bark was tasty. Another observation I made was the lack of a smokestack coming out of the building, so I do wonder where they "smoke" their meat. The sausage was fine, although lacking a little spice, nor did it taste absolutely "fresh off the smoker". The surprise came with the side items. The beans were good, with the definite aroma and taste of cilantro, although I wish they were a little more seasoned. The potato salad was very good, however. It had perfect flavor and the perfect mix of ingredients. The little cup of barbecue sauce was barely okay. It was just a little more sweet than spicy or peppery, but also tasted a little sour... definitely not my favorite. Overall, the price point at just under $20 for the plate was a little high for the product, unfortunately. Considering the popularity of the place, I was hoping for a little more.

$4 for a soda and $4 for a side of corn is crazy work. $1 for a pickled jalapeño. I'd rather go to Rusty Bucket.

FIRST TIME VISIT!…read more Woohoo! Been looking for chili cheese fries and happened upon a review for this place boasting fries with a homemade chili so we HAD TO stop in tonight. THE LOCATION: on the very end of a string of businesses in a strip mall that I've never been in before, so that was cool. Lots of parking, that'll never be an issue. And right off the 410. THE MENU: Burgers, dogs, Mexi-style munchies and a variety of frozen dessert-type items like shakes, frozen fruit concoctions and Italian ice. THE STAFF: I wasn't overwhelmed with a warm welcome and smiles, at least from the guys. Lol! They should really work on that. There was a sweet gal who ran out our food orders and she was great. THE FOOD: I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich deluxe with tots and a sweet tea. The grilled chicken was juicy and cooked well and the bun was lovely, slightly sweet and toasted. Overall, the sandwich could've used more flavor, like a creamy bbq spread and cheddar instead of the "Swiss" cheese that tasted more like American cheese. But overall, 7/10. The tots were extra crispy and the guy who took my order didn't take heed to my request for ranch. I was too lazy to get up again so I settled for ketchup. The sweet tea was nicely sweet and fresh, I'll be sipping this in my dreams. The hubby ordered the bacon cheeseburger with chili cheese fries and an Oreo cookie shake. The burger looked good and he ate it quick, so there's that. This guy can EAT so it surprised us both when he slowed down fast after eating that burger. Lol! He kept saying how filling it was, but then he also killed a large shake before the food arrived, so there's that. He ate most of his chili cheese fries, leaving me a few bites to sample. Not bad. I order a Coco Haven frozen dessert to go and omg is this thing delightful! Vanilla ice cream and coconut Italian ice (?) with a blue snow cone-like syrup drizzled throughout. I loved the texture of what I believed to be Italian ice. Smooth and flaky, a perfect icy dessert. OVERALL: decent eatery, the hubby said we can go back (LOL!) Shockerrrrr! But I recommend the staff tries harder to make customers feel welcomed and comfortable. The next visit will be telling.

Yeah, okay, it's convenient, but by the time you pay to park (minimum of four hours, which pissed me off) and then have your tiny, overpriced burger...you gonna be mad. Do yourself a favor and fight for street parking. I walked up to the outside counter Saturday night about 7:20. Never been here. The ladies behind the counter obviously could NOT have cared less. No nice welcome...no pleasantries. Nothing said. I spoke first, asking about seating availability inside (it was chilly), and they were rude - looked at me like I was from outer space and said they didn't know. They said they didn't know in that "yeah, good luck with that...it's Saturday at 7, dumbass" kinda way. How could you not know? And if you truly didn't know, which one of them should have gone to check for me. So I went and checked myself. Turns out: plenty of seating. Returned to the chilly duo and placed my order. Ordered the Wake and Bacon burger. I also ordered a Topo Chico, which was also met with a blank "are you from this planet?" stare. How do you not have Topo Chico or something similar !? The burger was just okay. Tiny, but tasty. Fries were so salty and over-seasoned as to be almost inedible. No one checked on me after bringing me my burger. Not one time. The only reason I gave the third star: neat, dog friendly outside area which would be cool for a group outing. Probably not going back.

Drinks were AMAZING! Bartender Rob made the best Negroni I've ever had. I asked him to use whatever gin he thought best--result was an artistic smooooooth full-bodied drink. Told him when I was done I'd lick the glass if it wasn't considered so uncouth for a 'mature' lady like myself to do so Hubby's Buffalo Trace bourbon old fashioned was also outstanding. Rob was the bartender last night who did such a great job, and his work was even better tonight. We highly recommend The EsquireTavern for excellent cocktails. We love the long wood bar and high copper ceiling upstairs, but love the intimate speakeasy atmosphere downstairs even more. We'll definitely be back every time we're in San Antonio! First review, Friday night: Drinks were great (Manhattan and Bourbon Old Fashioned). REAL drinks, no complaints at all about those. And the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Those aspects of the Esquire get 5+ stars from us. But the appetizers were not good, close to inedible. It was about 8:30pm or so, so maybe they were getting ready to close out the kitchen but the chalupitas with chicken tasted like rubber, and no flavor at all. The seafood platter had something in it that was breading with shell inside, but no meat of any kind. We couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be. The shrimp was good and the fish was good but those other things... We'll always love the drinks, the long wooden bar, and the ambiance at the Esquire Tavern, but we'll eat somewhere else and come here for before or after dinner drinks. (See update above to this review for when we returned the next night for after dinner drinks.)

My partner and I went on a Sunday morning just after 11am and there were already people coming in to eat. It's popular for a reason! I've eaten here a few times and had a very consistently good time, but this review will be about my most recent visit. We visited on a rainy day, but luckily we were able to snag one of the inside tables, we ordered at the counter and our orders arrived very quickly. I got the Ratchet dog which is a beef dog with queso, hot Cheetos and fried jalapeños. Dogfather uses quality dogs and buns for all of their gourmet dogs. I found the Ratchet to be meaty, salty with just right amount of spice from the jalapeños. My partner got the Pop it like it's hot, but removed the jalapeños. This was good but lacking a bit of flavor, however she and I both agreed that was on her for taking the jalapeños off the dog. Both dogs were extremely tasty, and we devoured both. I also got an order of curly fries loaded with their chili and cheese. For me, these did not have to go as HARD as they did. The chili they are using at Dogfather is seriously good, with a slight tang and a good amount of spice. It thrills but does not take away from your meal with too much heat. Very tasty. My only feedback is that Dogfather needs a larger space! There's a good size outside seating area, but for times like today when it's raining people need some coverage. They're doing it right and the crowds want to come! As I have stated this is a local favorite. If you live nearby, make it a regular spot. If you live in San Antonio, do yourself a favor and make a trip over at least sometimes. If you like hot dogs you won't go wrong.
