I don't venture out to Crocker-Amazon much, but when I find myself strolling in this 'hood, I can't help but get curious about some of the local, semi-nondescript eateries that must surely attract the nearby residents in the evenings or on the weekends. At least that's what I thought when I walked into B&W's empty cavernous dining space. I had to confirm if they were open. They were, and I immediately perused a stapled copy of their multi-page takeout menu. I saw something that thrilled me to no end, the $10.98 Hainan Style Chicken Porridge (Photo 10). OK, there was an end because it wasn't what I quite expected. I was hoping the chopped poultry would have the poached flavor and consistency of regular Hainan chicken on a plate. It didn't. It was just chopped chicken in jook with the nuisance of bones that needed to be jettisoned. I also had the $9.98 Wonton Soup because I knew that would likely be one of their dependable staples (Photo 8). It was, and the hot broth kept the wontons and bok choy tender and flavorful enough to enjoy. There appear to be dozens upon dozens of other menu choices to consider on my next visit. FOOD - 3 stars...dashed expectations on the Hainan chicken...dishes need more oomph AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...quite spacious in here SERVICE - 3.5 stars...pretty attentive TOTAL - 3 stars...endless menu probably yields true jewels RELATED - Exploring the Outer Mission? Had a nice time having dinner at this restaurant on a random wednesday a few months ago. The soup was good on a cold day, but definitely not worth the price because it felt like the veggies and wonton were all thrown together but cooked separately so it didn't combine with the soup's actual taste. The claypot fried rice however was very nice, rich in flavor, has that nice wok-fried taste and overall flavorful. The price is definitely not friendly, but the food is okay, there weren't any people around as it was almost 7:30, the ladies serving me were very kind to my requests so that was something to be grateful for as well

This place is great! The service is great, the food comes out quick and hot and fresh and ready, the ambience inside is lit with beautiful lights and chairs that make you feel right at home, the service couldn't be any better. I got the Mongolian beef over rice and it only came out to $13! Go and get yours!

We ordered takeout from B&W Kitchen and really enjoyed our meal. We had the shrimp chow mein, which came with bean sprouts. Just a heads-up, if you are not a fan of bean sprouts, be sure to request them removed. The chow mein was flavorful and the noodles had a nice texture. We also got the shrimp and scallops with vegetables. The vegetables were crisp and fresh, the sauce was flavorful, and the shrimp and scallops were cooked perfectly. This dish felt light but still satisfying. Another highlight was the fried rice with salted fish. We asked for it without chicken, and they accommodated that without any issue. We love this dish because it reminds us of toyo, a dried salted fish that may stink up the house when you fry it, but brings a rich salty flavor and great texture to the rice. It was comforting and packed with flavor. Everything was packed for takeout, and the portions were solid for the price. Service was quick and friendly. We're already planning to come back and try some of their meat dishes next time.

Secont time ordering from B&W didn't disappoint. I love clean Chinese food so much! We got four dishes all of which were superb. The tofu with mushrooms is so light and juicy with fntastic mild flavor, fish with vegetables feels light and fresh, the fried porchops and eggyolk shrimps with yams are decadent and flavorful. This food .. I can't stop eating it. Not to mention the huge portions. The pictures were taken after having 3.5 plates of food.

This is my 3rd time here. Celebrating my mother in law's birthday. The first two times was long time ago. This time food still tastes amazing!!! Love the pumpkin salted egg shrimp ! Thags my favorite. other dishes were good too. Only down side is, it took awhile for them to serve the food . I guess if you don't mind waiting for a little it's fine. For me is fine, but for the old ppl they wanted the food to served fast lmao overall I recommend this restaurant

Street parking. We tried take out vs. dine-in. Dine-in is better because food is still hot and some dishes taste better hot than cold. Salt pepper chicken wings definitely better dine-in. Chinese broccoli very good, less stringy stems. Porridge okay, same as dine-in or take away. Mapo tofu with mince pork was very good, not too spicy. Excellent service when not too busy. No ambiance as I think this is more for take away food. Four stars out of five.

Came here couple times to order take out. Ever since our first lesson, we always call in to order so if you don't wanna wait an hour for your food to come, always call in couple hours before your pickup time. Services was ok. I think they do eat ins now so they have a few big tables but not a lot. Their food is a hit or miss, and I felt like the last couple times either they heard us wrong or they just gave us what was easier to make. The recent Time it was pork instead of fish so probably better to double check your orders before leaving.

I did find a place where no meat would be available in SF . Once I started thinking of this place I started to map out hella meal possibilities with me creating dishes like San Francisco's native dish Cioppino and also making some salmon dishes along with some okay shrimp dishes like fried shrimp, skewer shrimps on the barbie, and scallop ceviche. The real feast on Good Friday would be getting the Dungeness Crab paired with some garlic noodles . This place has been a Mission District seafood institution and it's called Sun Fat Seafood company ( a former employee started Basa Seafood Express on 24th street). On a Spring stroll on Mission street between 22nd and 23rd streets I went inside a fresh seafood market. Inside you will see live lobsters in a tank. You will also see Dungeness Crab during crab season and also find of variety of fresh oysters selection along with scallops. You will also see sushi rolls when available along with different types of fishes. This place was the solution I was looking for to replace meat cravings and replace with seafood during Good Friday feast. This is definitely the place if you like it crustaceans and fish cooked or raw in SF. Inside Sun Fat Seafood you find some raw fish "fillet" to make your meal for " Good Friday" as some will "pray" and enjoy the fresh catch of seafood in San Francisco city by the "Bay" It's almost Good Friday so I feel "bless "I am alive and remembering those who passed away in peace may they "rest" I walk the streets of the Mission I "reminisce" and honor them on Good Friday feast as I eat some crab that's "Dungeness"

Y-U-M, full stop…read more How can I have lived in SF for more than 25 years and never once made it to this place?! For two of us we ordered a dozen oysters (sweetwaters, kusshis and miyagis), a bowl of clam chowder, the steamed artichoke w/citrus aioli, the Caesar salad w/crab and some bread on the side. And two glasses of Corsican rosé. ALL of it was scrumptious. It was just the right amount of food for us, though next time we will downsize the clam chowder or order a plain Caesar to fit another half dozen oysters into our bellies. Service was uniformly attentive and friendly and the place is cute and clean. We arrived at about 5.40 and were seated about half an hour later at the bar. Coming back!!

Delicious shellfish meals has always been on my mind before I personally give up on them. I preferred indoor dining since I got to see how hungry customers like their food so much. After finding out about the specials, it's too bad there's never any single fish dishes let alone mostly shellfish meals. Therefore, a shellfish salad was a suitable choice. A pair of prawns, Bay shrimps, crab meat remains, olives, slices of tomatoes, slices of radish, and the romaine lettuce as a base. The blue cheese dressing I've chosen didn't overwhelm the shrimp and crab flavors as I continue to enjoy every single bite. I'll be more than glad to have cioppino and some oyster shooters, but having the shellfish salad is the last shellfish meal I would ever have. I still give two thumbs up to Anchor Oyster Bar for their local sustainable seafood selection.

As someone who has works in the restaurant industry, I understand firsthand how challenging this business can be, and I have a tremendous amount of respect for the people who work hard to make a dining experience memorable. That's why I don't say this lightly when I say that our food experience tonight was extremely disappointing. We ordered the pork chop, which was okay, but the cabbage side was honestly hard to eat. I'm not sure if it was intended to be slaw or steamed cabbage, but it was essentially wet cabbage with very little flavor. The potatoes were decent, although the portion was quite small and they had a texture that tasted almost like boxed mashed potatoes. The biscuits were extremely dry and hard, and unfortunately, the butter served alongside them wasn't very good either. The spinach that came with the special was, without exaggeration, one of the worst parts of the meal. It had a very unpleasant taste that made us question whether something was off with it. There really wasn't another way to describe it. For a $44 plate, I expect the steak to be cooked properly, the sides to be flavorful and thoughtfully prepared, and the entire dish to feel worth the price. We also ordered a peach soda that was $10, which already feels very expensive for a soft drink. What was even more surprising was finding out that refills were not complimentary. That's something I feel should be clearly communicated when ordering. This is supposed to be soul food, a style of cooking known for bold, comforting, flavorful food. Unfortunately, our meal just didn't deliver that. Everyone at our table left feeling unsatisfied. We spent $163 for three entrées, three drinks, and two orders of biscuits. When you spend that kind of money and the food is exceptional, you leave feeling like it was money well spent. When the experience falls this far short, it's understandably frustrating and leaves you questioning the value. I do want to give credit where it's due: our server was wonderful. We had absolutely no complaints about the service. He was attentive, pleasant, and did her job well. I genuinely hope this feedback is received in the spirit it's intended. I know how difficult the restaurant business is, and I'm not looking to tear anyone down. I simply believe that when a meal costs this much, the quality, flavor, portions, and overall execution should reflect the price.

OUR PICKS BENTO BOX ($17) + BEEF TERIYAKI (+$2) ~ Miso soup, rice, and a side salad. I requested the beef to be cooked medium rare. My guy and I both ordered the beef teriyaki, so we were hoping for medium-rare or at least tender beef. Unfortunately, my beef came out well done and was pretty tough. That was disappointing. The salad consisted of a few sprigs of lettuce with a tiny bite of seaweed salad, along with a bowl of short-grain rice. 3/5 BENTO BOX ($17) + BEEF TERIYAKI (+$2) + 5 PCS SASHIMI (+$3) ~ The beef teriyaki was the same as mine, but his was lukewarm because his bento took an additional 10 minutes to arrive. The only difference was the 5 pieces of sashimi. The kitchen did not coordinate the dishes to be served at the same time. I had almost finished my bento before his arrived at the table. The only highlight was the sashimi, which was fresh and nicely sliced. He was also missing the miso soup and didn't bother asking for it since miso soup isn't something he cares to drink, but it would have been nice to have the option. 3/5 CRAZY GIRL ROLL ~ Deep-fried soft-shell crab and cucumber topped with spicy tuna, jalapeño, and special sauce. A good roll with a nice bit of spice. 4/5 The salmon and tuna sashimi seemed fresh and buttery. I also appreciated the flying insect light, which helped keep the dining area free of flies and mosquitoes. Unfortunately, the beef teriyaki was not up to our expectations. The beef was overcooked and tough, and the second bento arrived much later than the first. We probably should have stuck with the fish. I wouldn't recommend ordering the beef teriyaki, but the sashimi and Crazy Girl Roll were enjoyable.
