It was mid-afternoon, and there was a place on Geneva Avenue that I'd been wanting to try for a long time. Every time I passed by, I noticed they served my favorite dish; Hong Kong-style pan-fried noodles. That's one craving I can never ignore. We walked in around 2:30 p.m. and asked if they were still open. The server mentioned something about 15 minutes and the kitchen, but I misunderstood and thought she meant the kitchen would be opening in 15 minutes. After looking over the menu, I quickly realized she was actually telling us the kitchen would be closing in 15 minutes. We placed our order right away, and the waitstaff was incredibly accommodating. She made sure our order got through before the kitchen closed and took great care of us throughout our meal. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the prices were very reasonable. For $52, the two of us shared Hong Kong-style pan-fried noodles with salt and pepper pork chops, West Lake cilantro soup, rice, and tea. I don't venture out to Crocker-Amazon much, but when I find myself strolling in this 'hood, I can't help but get curious about some of the local, semi-nondescript eateries that must surely attract the nearby residents in the evenings or on the weekends. At least that's what I thought when I walked into B&W's empty cavernous dining space. I had to confirm if they were open. They were, and I immediately perused a stapled copy of their multi-page takeout menu. I saw something that thrilled me to no end, the $10.98 Hainan Style Chicken Porridge (Photo 10). OK, there was an end because it wasn't what I quite expected. I was hoping the chopped poultry would have the poached flavor and consistency of regular Hainan chicken on a plate. It didn't. It was just chopped chicken in jook with the nuisance of bones that needed to be jettisoned. I also had the $9.98 Wonton Soup because I knew that would likely be one of their dependable staples (Photo 8). It was, and the hot broth kept the wontons and bok choy tender and flavorful enough to enjoy. There appear to be dozens upon dozens of other menu choices to consider on my next visit. Too Stingy With Portion Size Good food, but disappointed in portion size. I recently ordered Sweet and Sour Pork (a little over $17), but when I got home and opened the container, it wasn't enough for me and my nephew to share so I had to just give it all to him. Knew it since the container had felt so light. There are other restaurants that still give good portions despite the cost of food now. Won't waste my money here again. read more

Had a nice time having dinner at this restaurant on a random wednesday a few months ago. The soup was good on a cold day, but definitely not worth the price because it felt like the veggies and wonton were all thrown together but cooked separately so it didn't combine with the soup's actual taste. The claypot fried rice however was very nice, rich in flavor, has that nice wok-fried taste and overall flavorful. The price is definitely not friendly, but the food is okay, there weren't any people around as it was almost 7:30, the ladies serving me were very kind to my requests so that was something to be grateful for as well read more

I've always been curious about this spot since it opened and finally got to try it today. Service is straightforward and to the point; I figured this was especially so today since it was busy, there were several people ahead of me with to-go orders. I ordered two things: Pea sprouts w/ garlic and the chef special tender cube beef. The wait seemed to be about 15-30min per order depending on how much you ordered. I ended up waiting about 30 minutes since 4-5 people were ahead of me. I think this is reasonable since it is a small restaurant and I think only one chef is working. I definitely recommend ordering ahead of time if you are on a time crunch. Regarding the food, it wasn't quite to my liking but that doesn't mean it is bad. The pea shoots were a tad over cooked and under seasoned, not a big deal, and they gave a huge portion which makes up for it. The chef special tender beef cubes were ok; some cubes had tendon and fat which were chewy. There also was not that much beef considering it was 20 dollars. We ordered takeout from B&W Kitchen and really enjoyed our meal. We had the shrimp chow mein, which came with bean sprouts. Just a heads-up, if you are not a fan of bean sprouts, be sure to request them removed. The chow mein was flavorful and the noodles had a nice texture. We also got the shrimp and scallops with vegetables. The vegetables were crisp and fresh, the sauce was flavorful, and the shrimp and scallops were cooked perfectly. This dish felt light but still satisfying. Another highlight was the fried rice with salted fish. We asked for it without chicken, and they accommodated that without any issue. We love this dish because it reminds us of toyo, a dried salted fish that may stink up the house when you fry it, but brings a rich salty flavor and great texture to the rice. It was comforting and packed with flavor. Everything was packed for takeout, and the portions were solid for the price. Service was quick and friendly. Street parking. We tried take out vs. dine-in. Dine-in is better because food is still hot and some dishes taste better hot than cold. Salt pepper chicken wings definitely better dine-in. Chinese broccoli very good, less stringy stems. Porridge okay, same as dine-in or take away. Mapo tofu with mince pork was very good, not too spicy. Excellent service when not too busy. Came here couple times to order take out. Ever since our first lesson, we always call in to order so if you don't wanna wait an hour for your food to come, always call in couple hours before your pickup time. Services was ok. I think they do eat ins now so they have a few big tables but not a lot. Their food is a hit or miss, and I felt like the last couple times either they heard us wrong or they just gave us what was easier to make. This was such an underrated restaurant. The storefront can be easily overlooked and tends to blend into the busy intersection it sits on. I ordered pick up for wasabi chicken, salt and pepper chicken wings, roast quail, and fried pork chops. Every dish was delicious! I frequent a myriad of Chinese restaurants in the Bay, and have rarely encountered an unassuming establishment that hits it out of the park for the breadth of flavors I ordered. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive. I was surprised that they knew my pick up order the moment I said my name. Usually, restaurant staff are so busy that they'll take 30 seconds to check for the orders. I've never seen service like this before for such an unimportant detail. read more

We live in the neighborhood and walking by we always see Chinese families dining here. Today we had take out and we liked it a lot. We had braised tofu with vegetables and mushrooms and it was so yummy. 10/10 Even the mushrooms were so succulent and delicious. We also had sweet and sour chicken which was good and the chicken wings in spicy sauce. We didn't care too much for the spicy sauce so next time we will get the salt and pepper ones. It's a small mom and pop shop with no social media presence.   I read about the opening of B & W Kitchen from a neighborhood newsletter. After perusing their very lengthy menu, I was sold on their traditional Cantonese menu items (not a crab rangoon and orange chicken kinda place). The chef is from Hong Kong. During COVID, they're open for takeout with delivery available through Fantuan only.   M  E  N  U Huge array of items: Cantonese BBQ, Soups, Jook, Noodle Soups, Chicken, Pork, Beef, Lamb, Frog, Live Seafood (ginger&scallion, s&p, chili-fried, salted egg yolk), Noodle Rolls, Clay Pot Rice, Fried Rice and Noodles, and Veggies.   Do note, not everything on the menu is available yet. Jook and noodle rolls will be rolled out when indoor dining is allowed. For live seafood, they currently have crabs in their tanks. Rice plate lunch specials: $8.95-$9.80.   Choose 3 Entrees w/ Soup for $30.95. ***See enclosed menu pics. There's also additional menu items listed on their website.   I called in my takeout order and was quoted 25 minutes but it took closer to 40 minutes because they were slammed (on a Monday). With so many items, I was asked to order by menu item number. While waiting for order, the phone was constantly ringing with Cantonese speaking customers and repeat customers asking for recommendations on what to order next. The brisket was excellent but the broth and daikon were ridiculously salty. * SP 16 Braised Fish Head & Stew Claypot ($14.98) I thought the entire fish head would be served but it's not. The fish head was chopped into pieces, flash-fried, then braised with ginger, whole garlic cloves, and scallions. Solid dish. * SP 14 Braised Lamb Brisket w/ bean curd ($18) A homestyle dish with a combo of bone-in lamb and boneless lamb brisket, stewed in a gravy with ginger, garlic, shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoot tips, and dried bean curd. Steamed rice is a must with dish to balance the salt. Room for Improvement: Studier plastic bags and wrapping saucy items with a baggie. Going back home, there was leakage from the brisket dish and a hole in the bag.   S  E  R  V  I  C  E Friendly and appreciative. They're understaffed and the manager told me they've been busy so kindly be patient. She was constantly being interrupted by customers calling and was very apologetic. P A R K I N G Parking is really tough in the area so give yourself plenty of time. Overall, solid 4 stars for the food. Wish I could give 5 stars but 2 of the 3 dishes were way too salty. I overhead a customer saying her previous order was too salty so I'm not the only one. Perhaps, you can request for them to go easy on the salt? Regardless, B & W Kitchen is a nice addition to the south side of the city. This is a true neighborhood gem and such a welcome addition to this part of town! This is on point Cantonese cuisine. I saw this as we were driving down geneva and was very curious about it as it just had the grand opening in feb. Location: It's right on Geneva and unfortunately Geneva does not have a whole lot of parking available so that can be rough. Lots of double parking and running in to hopefully grab everything quickly! Logistics: No app or online ordering available so call in your order. The menu is found on google reviews and yelp (thanks to the first reviewer!). They do take credit card. Food: Delicious!!! Everything we got there, we enjoyed thoroughly. We got the deal for three dishes + soup for $30.95 and added an order of fried rice. Spiced dry braised string beans, honey pepper chicken, steamed pork belly with mustard greens. We stuffed ourselves full with plenty of leftovers (for 2 people). Everything is on point - excellent canto comfort food! So we ordered off the menu and the waitress taking the order was not helpful and didn't know whether the items we wanted was available or not. After receiving the food, it looked and tasted very unappetizing. The chow fun, veggies, tofu, everything was drenched in oil and no one really enjoyed the food. Used to get takeout from here quite often via their 3 for $33.99 menu. Food was pretty good and portions reasonable. Unfortunately that has all changed. Phoned in an order explicitly stating, "I'd like to do these three dishes from the 3 for $33.99 menu" as usual, but when I went to pick it up the total came out to $47. I clarified I ordered from $33.99 menu and the cashier told me, "we don't do that anymore." Ok, why not tell me over the phone when I ordered? The sticker shock sucked, but I can understand it given rising prices of everything. But then the food came out and it is now maybe around half the portion size as before. This spot was recommended by my brother. Chinese food mom & pop type restaurant! Quick and friendly. Definitely try them out! - The salt & pepper fried pork chop was so good to me.
