I don't venture out to Crocker-Amazon much, but when I find myself strolling in this 'hood, I can't help but get curious about some of the local, semi-nondescript eateries that must surely attract the nearby residents in the evenings or on the weekends. At least that's what I thought when I walked into B&W's empty cavernous dining space. I had to confirm if they were open. They were, and I immediately perused a stapled copy of their multi-page takeout menu. I saw something that thrilled me to no end, the $10.98 Hainan Style Chicken Porridge (Photo 10). OK, there was an end because it wasn't what I quite expected. I was hoping the chopped poultry would have the poached flavor and consistency of regular Hainan chicken on a plate. It didn't. It was just chopped chicken in jook with the nuisance of bones that needed to be jettisoned. I also had the $9.98 Wonton Soup because I knew that would likely be one of their dependable staples (Photo 8). It was, and the hot broth kept the wontons and bok choy tender and flavorful enough to enjoy. There appear to be dozens upon dozens of other menu choices to consider on my next visit. FOOD - 3 stars...dashed expectations on the Hainan chicken...dishes need more oomph AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...quite spacious in here SERVICE - 3.5 stars...pretty attentive TOTAL - 3 stars...endless menu probably yields true jewels RELATED - Exploring the Outer Mission? Mongolian Beef over Rice Plate

This place is great! The service is great, the food comes out quick and hot and fresh and ready, the ambience inside is lit with beautiful lights and chairs that make you feel right at home, the service couldn't be any better. I got the Mongolian beef over rice and it only came out to $13! Go and get yours!

We ordered takeout from B&W Kitchen and really enjoyed our meal. We had the shrimp chow mein, which came with bean sprouts. Just a heads-up, if you are not a fan of bean sprouts, be sure to request them removed. The chow mein was flavorful and the noodles had a nice texture. We also got the shrimp and scallops with vegetables. The vegetables were crisp and fresh, the sauce was flavorful, and the shrimp and scallops were cooked perfectly. This dish felt light but still satisfying. Another highlight was the fried rice with salted fish. We asked for it without chicken, and they accommodated that without any issue. We love this dish because it reminds us of toyo, a dried salted fish that may stink up the house when you fry it, but brings a rich salty flavor and great texture to the rice. It was comforting and packed with flavor. Everything was packed for takeout, and the portions were solid for the price. Service was quick and friendly. We're already planning to come back and try some of their meat dishes next time.

Fried porkchops. Can't stop eating.

Secont time ordering from B&W didn't disappoint. I love clean Chinese food so much! We got four dishes all of which were superb. The tofu with mushrooms is so light and juicy with fntastic mild flavor, fish with vegetables feels light and fresh, the fried porchops and eggyolk shrimps with yams are decadent and flavorful. This food .. I can't stop eating it. Not to mention the huge portions. The pictures were taken after having 3.5 plates of food.

This is my 3rd time here. Celebrating my mother in law's birthday. The first two times was long time ago. This time food still tastes amazing!!! Love the pumpkin salted egg shrimp ! Thags my favorite. other dishes were good too. Only down side is, it took awhile for them to serve the food . I guess if you don't mind waiting for a little it's fine. For me is fine, but for the old ppl they wanted the food to served fast lmao overall I recommend this restaurant

Street parking. We tried take out vs. dine-in. Dine-in is better because food is still hot and some dishes taste better hot than cold. Salt pepper chicken wings definitely better dine-in. Chinese broccoli very good, less stringy stems. Porridge okay, same as dine-in or take away. Mapo tofu with mince pork was very good, not too spicy. Excellent service when not too busy. No ambiance as I think this is more for take away food. Four stars out of five.

I did find a place where no meat would be available in SF . Once I started thinking of this place I started to map out hella meal possibilities with me creating dishes like San Francisco's native dish Cioppino and also making some salmon dishes along with some okay shrimp dishes like fried shrimp, skewer shrimps on the barbie, and scallop ceviche. The real feast on Good Friday would be getting the Dungeness Crab paired with some garlic noodles . This place has been a Mission District seafood institution and it's called Sun Fat Seafood company ( a former employee started Basa Seafood Express on 24th street). On a Spring stroll on Mission street between 22nd and 23rd streets I went inside a fresh seafood market. Inside you will see live lobsters in a tank. You will also see Dungeness Crab during crab season and also find of variety of fresh oysters selection along with scallops. You will also see sushi rolls when available along with different types of fishes. This place was the solution I was looking for to replace meat cravings and replace with seafood during Good Friday feast. This is definitely the place if you like it crustaceans and fish cooked or raw in SF. Inside Sun Fat Seafood you find some raw fish "fillet" to make your meal for " Good Friday" as some will "pray" and enjoy the fresh catch of seafood in San Francisco city by the "Bay" It's almost Good Friday so I feel "bless "I am alive and remembering those who passed away in peace may they "rest" I walk the streets of the Mission I "reminisce" and honor them on Good Friday feast as I eat some crab that's "Dungeness"

Around the downtown area, it sits in it's own restaurant section amongst the busy streets. Regardless of it being busy, a lot of the establishments around are a quick grab and go. Just like Basa Seafood, which means parking isn't an issue! ‍‍ The establishment looks Asian family run and neatly organized. When asking for suggestions or even recommendations amongst the mid size menu, the great cravings and great seafood is well within reach and can't go wrong Affordable reach, I should also mention. While poke isn't cheap, the restaurant provides great portions and doesn't slack on the rice or even the sauce to make the poke amazing! Amazing isn't even an understatement at this point especially too! We got our lucky hands on two things. The spicy salmon can be summed in two words; spicy and light. Thankfully, those words go hand in hand. While the spiciness doesn't overpower the salmon, the salmon itself has such a light and natural taste. Paired with green onions and rice, it makes any poke lover recognize each little taste pallete that it has to offer. Secondly, the fried calamari we had a chance of trying also came with a spicy mayo sauce. The calamari itself? Fried to perfection, still crispy when you bite into itself and together with the sauce, it makes for a perfect savory snack!

I ordered Cioppino. This dish is a San Francisco classic fisherman's stew. It came with dungenuous crab, clams fish and mussels in a tomato broth. This restaurant receives many five-star reviews and has even earned Michelin recognition in the past. Given its reputation, it is difficult to write anything that goes against the prevailing public sentiment. First, the restaurant has an unusual opening time of 2:00 p.m. If you arrive at opening, there is already a line ahead of you. Including the bar, the restaurant has only 21 indoor seats. There are also three outdoor booths that can accommodate up to six people each. They offer takeout as well. Their procedure requires customers to arrive before opening and put their names on a whiteboard. Guests are then seated in the order of arrival once the restaurant opens. We followed this process and were among the first group of customers seated. One of us ordered the clam chowder. Unfortunately, it was not particularly impressive and can be skipped without missing much. We also ordered oysters. They west coast oysters are small and lack the briny flavor that many Gulf Coast oyster lovers expect. Those accustomed to Gulf Coast oysters may find them disappointing. The main reason for our visit was to try the restaurant's famous cioppino. Unfortunately, it never arrived. After waiting for more than one hour, we finally decided to get up and leave. As we were paying for the oysters and clam chowder, the cioppino suddenly appeared. By that point, however, we had lost our appetite and no longer wished to stay. To the restaurant's credit, they did not charge us for the cioppino. My impression is that our waiter either made an error when placing the order or that another customer who arrived after us was mistakenly served ahead of us. After reading other reviews, I noticed that many of the one-star reviews describe similar experiences.  Overall, Anchor Oyster Bar is may be worth trying if you are curious about this San Francisco institution. However, despite its excellent reputation, be prepared for the possibility of disappointment, particularly when it comes to service and wait times. Fortunately, there are a lot of alternatives to the "famous" places, where food and the customer service is better.
