Tried the Singapore laksa $19 and it was decent for a Chinese restaurant. It is listed under the pho section of the menu. I opted for the 'combo' for an extra $1 and wasn't quite sure what that meant. The waitress didn't ask me if I wanted extra beef, chicken or shrimps per the menu. When it arrived, it smelled good. There were hints of dried chilies, shrimp paste and coconut milk in the soup. The flavor profile is mid for what is considered to be a laksa. There were pieces of chicken, fish balls, imitation crab (not a fan), quail egg, shrimps and tofu in the soup. I opted for egg noodles instead of rice noodles. On the side is a plate of pho vegetables: Thai basil, steamed bean sprouts, peppers and lemon. It would be better if the soup had a stronger flavor profile by adding some galangal (ginger root), lemon grass or more rempah (shrimp paste.) Instead of the Thai basil leaves, actual laksa leaves, per the dish name, would have been better. Service was fast as there were only three other tables occupied at 6:30pm. read more

Needed to drop something off at the UPS store and was in the mood for garlic noodles. I got the Chicken Garlic Noodle Plate and it was amazing. Generous portion of both chicken and noodles. Upon entering you are transported to a warm inviting cafe that pulls you away from the busy streets of ocean ave and into a homie atmosphere. This morning seemed especially cold and foggy so I ordered the jojo's house special wonton soup. I should have payed attention as I thought it would come with noodles. Overall it was a very simply clean soup with plenty of toppings. Although I didn't really find the dish to be particularly special for a house special, it was filling enough to start the day and warm me up. It's been here on Ocean Avenue for years, but I only just recently stopped by for the first time. It really took me a while to scan the menu since it ran the gamut from breakfast specials to chow fun. I decided to try the $11.95 Grilled Pork Garlic Noodle Plate. It was quite a huge plate with a big pile of garlic noodles to go with the marinated pork sprinkled with sesame seeds. What can I say about this place. Short and sweet. It's an amazing local spot with amazing deals and the menu has a good variety from rice plates, to vietnamese dishes, to baked plates, to noodle soups. If theres anything I think you should try it would be the seafood baked spaghetti. I honestly can't get enougg. I may go back later this week honestly. This is definitely my go to spot if I'm craving any baked dish and it's close by which is an amazing plus. Overall good food, good prices, and the normal service. Review update. Looks like the last time I reviewed this place was 9 years ago, they've changed over the years. Chinese, Vietnamese and now Chinese and Vietnamese. Don't come here to be wowed. But if you come here hungry and you're looking to get decent food for a fair price, this is the spot for you. The over rice specials are the way to go. The Mongolian beef is my favorite. The staff here is pleasant, and they serve up what I think of as the San Francisco version of Diner Food, with a mix of Classic American, and Asian Comfort Foods. The price point is gentle on the wallet, and the food home style. They also offer great breakfast, and sandwich specials, a decent Laksa, and they make a nice milk tea. My meal was a plate of tasty Dim Sum (Buns & Siu Mai) and a Fruit Freeze though I was very sated with the plate so the Cup went into the Freezer. If you're with a group of hAngry people who can't decide what to get for brunch, Jojo's Cafe is the place to be. From Chinese, Vietnamese to American classic breakfast items, they have it all. Now I can't say food is excellent, everything we ordered was average tasting but I like how fast their service is. You place your order at the counter, go take a seat and food starts coming to your table in 10 minutes or so. The interior isn't bad at all either. It exudes some sort of industrial, modern contemporary vibe, like a juxtaposition to the very traditional food they serve. Indoor and outdoor dining is available too. The menu is very diverse. However, I love laksa so it was a no brainer to me. It comes with an extra bowl of laksa soup, and a side of bean sprouts, thai basil and jalapeno pepper - exactly what you expect to get when you're getting pho. The extra soup is necessary as the laksa bowl itself is loaded with toppings and the rice noodles keep on absorbing the soup. The grilled pork banh mi was just okay, you can't beat the price though at $4. The pancakes were great for kids, the nephew loved it. The wonton soup was oddly sour? It had like 10 wontons or more though. Overall, I thought food was 3/5. I'm bumping it to 4 considering the fast and friendly service, affordability, and variation. read more
