Thank you thank you thank you yelp for bringing me here! I've been an East Villager on Ave B for over a year now and have yet to check this place out. In fact, I've never walked by it as it is never on my daily trajectory for work. However, in an effort to stray from my usual EV coffee spots, I stumbled upon B Cup. This place must always be filled on a Saturday morning because the hum of Saturday morning brunchers and hustle and bustle of the staff seemed natural in the colorful space. While the menu is VAST and has a variety of sandwiches, salads, and pastries - I opted for a soy latte and vegan molasses cookie ($8 for both - $4.50 for the latte because I added soy, $4 regularly). The cookie didn't taste vegan (whatever that tastes like) and the latte was creamy and had the perfect espresso silkiness. Only bummer was how hard it was to find a seat, but that's no fault of the place. Next time I'm going to try one of the yummy sandwiches. I'll be back for sure!! read more

I'm neighbors with B Cup and they're great! The staff and owner are friendly, and they offer a wide set of pastries alone - many gluten-free and/or vegan. I suggest starting out with the hugely popular big Oreo or the peanut butter cookies for about a buck each. B Cup is cash only, which is sometimes limiting, but they have an ATM inside. The space is pretty big and homey, with an assortment of tables, sofas, chairs, bar stools and counters, so plenty of space to sit down with your laptop or a book. Despite the cheap joke of a name, B Cup is a cute neighborhood coffee shop with plenty to offer. To wit: free wireless, comfy cushioned seating, friendly service, big mugs of caffeine, and a decent lunch. The smoked salmon salad is pretty good, even if it does leave you tasting red onion all day. I'm happy to have this little spot in my hood. In the most ridiculously rainy June I have ever seen, it's a nice cozy getaway that's only a step or two removed from sitting on my couch. I decided to paint my living room today, and needed a place to chill while it dried. It was the most amazing day outside, so I tried to find something with outdoor seating. I walked into B cup for a coffee and saw the bench. I can't believe I hadn't thought of this earlier. I have been to B cup a few times now and should have Yelped it months ago. The servers are so attractive and friendly, and the atmosphere is peaceful. It almost seemed too good to be true for a coffee shop. I guess I'm used to the Starbucks crowd who are so hyped up on caffeine the place sounds like a concert at Hammerstein. B cup was the perfect choice. Lovely little cafe tucked in the corner of ABC village. The decor, signage, menu, and everything about this cafe screams hip, quirky, loving, and welcoming. They have tables reserved for non-laptop using diners/patrons which is really nice! The menu is extensive and there is something for everyone. It's no doubt a pretty good study spot since it's quiet and the servers are real friendly. They serve food and have some tables and couches available for studying. I don't care much for the coffee, but I had to say that my caramel latte was lukewarm...i really have a thing when they can't steam my milk hot enough.. furthermore I couldn't taste the Caramel and I paid 4.60 for a latte ( they only offer the LARGE size for eat-in patrons) , which is quite alot in my book. ... my studying went pretty well so i assume ill come back if i cant find anything. Great food and drinks. You can't really go wrong with coming for a bite to eat here. I deducted a star because it doesn't have very good insulation for the winter (not surprised given it's size, but still). I went there once in January and literally died a little every time someone opened the door to go in/leave. I also got food delivered once and noticed they don't give you the salad with the sandwich like they give you when you eat at the store (they're not ripping you off since it was never stated that you get a side salad though - just something to keep in mind). Free wi-fi, lots of seating and delicious studying food. I'm a big fan. The daytime barista is very friendly and has a great selection of music on his Ipod for studying. So even though it gets busy in here, I can go headphone-less. It gets pretty busy in here but you can stay for awhile and no one bothers you to buy stuff. There are outlets on the back wall near the bar, so when you see a lot of laptops at the tables, most are likely taken. Lots of delicious treats and sandwiches that others seem to rave about. Spent a very relaxing Sunday afternoon here! Nice little place with a fun, welcoming vibe and fantastic sandwiches. You can make a sandwich with just about anything you could possibly want. They have a large set of base sandwiches (10-15); you select one and then can customize it by choosing the bread and add-ons from a huge list of choices: proteins, cheeses, and lots of veggies. They're pretty hefty, and also come with a nice little salad. They have some other exciting selections too, like shakshuka. My sandwich turned out so delicious that I feel I should share my recipe with the world. I got: goat cheese, carrots, sundried tomatoes, and crushed walnuts on whole wheat bread with pesto sauce. So if you if you find yourself overwhelmed by the choices, just go with that. I also got a plain cup of coffee, which was pretty good and came in HUGE mug. Probably more coffee than I needed, but I'm not complaining. It can get a little claustrophobic, especially around all the little tables, which are in front of the counter. They didn't seem like a very nice place to sit since there's tons of people standing around ordering their food. I was able to get a seat at the counter looking out the window, which was lovely. Very friendly and blissfully "remote" WiFi cave with couches (big ups). Plug in your headphones if you're here to write/study and don't need to hear 20something girls chattering about rent-job-boys. The guys behind the counter (Israeli, I think) are very nice and I wish I would have tried the Israeli breakfast, which seemed appetizing. The coffee was just OK, but the elevated prices are more than reasonable accounting for couch time. Their Internet connection, shared with just a few people instead of dozens, is far superior to Tea Lounge in Brooklyn. read more

A cute little place in Alphabet City. The cafe is slightly cramped and it can get quite busy, so get there early! At 10AM on a Sunday morning, almost every seat in the cafe was taken except for at the counter - but mostly because it was bathed in direct sunlight. I was able to swoop in on a table right after I ordered, but I ended up being stuck between a radiator and a table. :( It got quite stuffy and hot because the circulation in the cafe wasn't great, especially with the door shut. After 2 hours in the cafe, I walked out smelling like I'd spent the morning bathing in kitchen grease. Yuck. If you get your drinks to stay (which I said I wanted, but they must have misheard), it comes in a milk bottle vase, which is super cute and totally instagram-able! I can't wait to come back here to order a smoothie or a mint lemonade in said glasses. :3 Food looks delicious and fresh as well, so I will definitely need to try something off of their menu at some point. There is free wifi (just get the password from the cashier), and a restroom on the premises for customers, which makes it a great place to hunker down and study for a few hours. Plus the coffee is nice and strong so it will definitely keep you fueled up for the duration of your visit. They are cash only (!!!!), so it's great that they are partnered with the Cups app, because you can still get a cup of coffee even if you forget to grab a few bills on the way in! read more

I have visited B cup several times since my last review. I hoped that the environment and service would improve. It certainly has! The food is good. Staff is friendly. There is a lot of seating and it's a good place to work but... Hang on cuz this review is about to get real bougie... Their mistake is in regards to the matcha latte. For the plebes out there-Matcha is green tea powder; it has 10x the caffeine as ordinary green tea but because it contains the amino acid L-theanine it has a different affect on the central nervous system than coffee. It's calming. Zen. Anyway I've order the matcha there a couple times. The first time I sent it back because it was clumpy. The second time was today. It tasted awful and I only had two sips because soon after I was nauseated. The employees do not know how to prepare matcha. Allow me to enlighten you, B-Cup and yelp philistines not refined in the art of matcha. 1) don't use culinary grade matcha; 2) use a teaspoon of powder at most unless you really know how to balance the flavor; and 3) for the love of buddha sift the cot damn matcha before you whisk it! B-Cup I really appreciate the time you've taken to read this absurdly long yelp review and lesson in matcha preparation. I look forward to getting a good matcha drink there soon. P.S. After searching for a wifi cafe in the neighborhood that wasn't too packed or filled with MacBooks (I am a netbook type of girl) I discovered this coffee shop which met all my needs. It was a cozy place in the East Village to get some work done. They have free wi-fi and delicious iced coffee. It's served in a large pint glass vase. I actually always find a spot to sit that is not overly crowded, plus an outlet - SCORE! Great atmosphere to get work done and people watch and yummy sandwiches! This place is just great. My first time and its made it into my bookmarks. I needed a cafe to waste an hour in and this one was nearby so I popped in. The place is decently sized with lotsa tables and couches an comfy seats, which is always a favorite of mine in cafe. There is free wifi (the one time I forget my laptop! Drat!). And the menu is pretty extensive with drink options, cold and hot, and yummy sounding sandwiches. Also lotsa cookies and some desserts. I had a mint mocha and a prosciutto and mozzarella croissant. Both were very delicious. The croissant especially was pressed and golden crispy. Made me happy this snowy morning. The server was really nice too! Overall a 5 experience. Will be back. read more

The specials are delicious. The shakshuka I ordered was presented in a charming steel pan and came with half a beautifully crusty baguette that sopped up all the saucy eggs perfectly and had me wanting more. Their OJ is also fresh squeezed and refreshing and the lattes around me seemed great. Wish the seating in the back was a bit more comfortable and better suited for eating ie. Coffee table height vs bench height. We ended up there because we had a larger group of 4 and most of the tables had filled up on a busy Saturday afternoon. read more

I had very high hopes for B Cup Cafe, but like there sandwiches, they were off. The price point and idea of each sandwich was great! With a small sab which, 8.5 isn't bad. I had two different ones on different breads. The avocado was tasty but there was 3 times more bread than filling. I, shockingly, thought there was too much bread! My carb loving self has never really had that problem before. I ended up finishing the bread, cause I have a low resistance to bread taunting me to be eaten. I had the same problem with the goat cheese sand which on honey/wheat bread. The bread, this time, was good but became oily from pesto, and again, had little filling. The biggest disappointment, though, was the big 'Oreo' cookie. It was not hard but not soft. The inside was more like frosting, and was very sweet. I didn't like it, and I LOVE Oreos. Great little coffee shop. I wish I lived a little closer. The coffee was delicious and even though I didn't order any food it smelled great. I really enjoyed the music they played. The tables are pretty close together, but it didn't bother me that much. My friend and I stayed there for 3.5 hours and ordered 2 drinks each.
