The best ice cream EVER. You always get Oregon Trail, bit the others are awesome, too. In addition to the BEST ice cream, they always go WAY over and above for their customers. During the coronavirus quarantine, and after they'd closed down, they were kind enough to go out of their way to hook me up so I could have wonderful birthday. The ice cream was good, above average even. Lots of flavors, interesting selections, very rich and creamy. The saltwater taffy was substandard, they have a tremendous flavor selection but the flavors were weak, the sugar over powering, and there was little to no saltiness. This was the same for all 10 flavors we tried. The ice cream is worth a visit but there is better saltwater taffy along the coast. read more

We vacation on the Oregon Coast twice yearly. We have driven by B.J.'s on past vacations, but always after a meal - so felt too full to stop. Our last trip the timing was right, so we stopped - and will stop again EVERY trip from now on! THEY HAVE WHITE LICORICE ICE CREAM! Tillamook discontinued this flavor, making the trip to their factory a low priority for us. Umpqua has licorice ice cream, but it's black - so the dye gets all over your lips and tongue, which is quite entertaining for younger folks, but we can do without that. B.J.'s licorice ice cream is so creamy and flavorful - SO GOOD. The Marionberry Cheesecake was also yummy! B.J.'s quality is also superior to Umpqua - in texture and flavor both. So even if they are out of Licorice, we'll stop and enjoy B.J.'s - and get a chance to try other flavors! read more

Really wanted the wonderful little Hwy 101 ice cream stop experience. Many of the all 48 buckets were topped with a syrupy, melted looking mess, thickened and freezer burned. Looking at the prices vs. the offering, I was unimpressed. Still, decided to get a root beer float figuring I could throw away 5 bucks. It was awful, freezer burned vanilla. Holy Cannoli! Something was wrong when I went.... It was the first day of spring break so that may be why and ill re-review when I come back accordingly. The line was seriously out the door. Not sure if it was because of good ice cream or there was only 1 person working and she happened to work like a snail. The ice cream though is good, they have so many different flavors and a ton of salt water taffy to pick from. They even have a cooler with cannoli's napoleons and such. Stopped by the place on our way from Florence to Cape Perpetua; actually took a u-turn to try it out. We really regretted it and it has inaugurated the new road rule that you don't turn around. It was later in the afternoon and we needed a little pick-me-up so when I saw this place, I thought 'why not'? And the answer is: 'because bad ice cream is not worth the calories.' M. had the lemon chiffon which sounded intriguing, was not very tasty; highly mediocre ice cream. I ordered the strawberry cheescake which was a huge mistake. I should have known after tasting M.'s lemon chiffon it would miss my strawberry expectations. It seemed to be made from frozen strawberries, gooey and overly red syrupy. The texture and overall quality of the ice cream was not good. It did not taste fresh or homemade. I am not extremely picky when it comes to sweets, but this was bad enough to write home about. Do yourself a favor, hit up one of the several DQ's in the area. read more

I've been to this BJ's twice...the first time I went in the smell of pine sol was so strong I completely lost my appetite for nice cream. I thought maybe I hit cleaning day so I tried it again...nope. Still smelled of pine sol! Yuck!!! Tried the BJ's on Bay Street and it was much better! Glad it's a small town and I can drive a few minutes down the road and get a good ice cream in a place that doesn't smell bad! read more

Yum! Thanks bf for taking me here after lunch. We got their hot fudge sundae with two scoops of ice cream, cappucino and toasted almond, with whipped cream and a cherry on top! But NO nuts! *sad face* The girl serving us that day was super nice and sweet, but I felt bad for her as she seemed to be the only person working that day. Apparently there's 2 shops, but this is the original and the other one located in Old Town. I don't know if that one sells baked goods and salt water taffy, but impressive how they make their own ice cream AND baked goods. Yummo! read more

Three kids cones $3.25. two adult cones $4.99. should have been charged $19.73. the young woman who works here over charged us on two separate occasions, $21.73. 3/4/14 UPDATE: They now have a shop open in Winchester Bay and are opening one in Reedsport....I'm going to have to move! They are too good to be that close to us at least in Florence we had to drive a while to get there.... This place has been here for as long as I can remember and now I know why. They make their own ice cream oh yeah you read that right THEY MAKE THEIR ICE CREAM!!! You can tell it is awesome. Try the Oregon Trail that's a rich chocolate ice cream with a thick ribbon of Marion Berry jam and hazelnuts through out. Worth a stop! read more

My sweet tooth called me into this little place. I was surprised by the friendly staff and very unique flavors. It wasn't crowded when we came, so the employee was nice enough to let us sample many of their unique flavors. The flavors change, so I would recommend going to see for yourself what they have! Delicious ice cream!! We loved all the flavors we tried! The single scoop is actually more like a double scoop. Our favorite was the mocha Carmel cookie. We were at the most amazing time to be at the coast.. The seagulls sounded like angels.. the sunlight looked like something you would find in heaven.. the heat of the day like.. well you get what I'm saying. It was nostalgic.. but, but, I will never forget the ice cream choice I made.. coconut.. incredible, indelible, creamy, rich, full of sin? coconut ice cream.. It also had chunks of coconut through and through. Seriously, I had nothing like it before... I walked with it alone across the street to watch the boats in the water and to visit the Saturday market on this fine day.. just me and my ice cream cone.. you can't get much better. read more

My grandfather was a prize winning dairyman. He made championship winning butter and ice cream, so I grew up eating 1st rate ice cream and continually sample all brands searching for his equal. Sadly, most premium ice cream today would not rate an honorable mention. BJ's makes ice cream that would give my grandfather a run for the top prize. Absolutely a treat this past weekend and despite the Summer crowds, BJ's was a good choice. As spoiled rotten Foodies, we give straightforward honest reviews because we don't want to mislead anyone! ~ The hard pack ice cream was quality! I was delighted with my classic Hot Fudge Sundae! They were generous with the hot fudge and I didn't run out as with other places. It also had REAL whip cream on it. Little Miss Picky and Mr. Picky both choose classic chocolate malts. Nice and thick, thet way they love their malts. BJ's is also a one stop sweet shop; they even have Cannoli's! read more

This is one of the stops that is a "must do" when ever we head to the coast. It's nice to have the verity of flavors. One of the best is the Oregon Trail, chocolate ice cream with blackberry's and filberts. Very good! It's my wife's favorite. Mine must be the bittersweet nugget, since that's what I have 75% of the time...My kids usually do the strawberry, or vanilla, one had the Kahlua fudge and another had the Kahlua fudge. Great place and also have saltwater taffy if that's what you crave. We enjoy this location better then the one in old town, they have a larger selection. read more

Oregon Trail ....Chocolate, Hazelnut, and Marionberry

We have stopped on several occasions while traveling. Their ice cream is good, service good but probably will not return due to cleanliness (or the lack of). The tables out front need a brush & soap scrub down (not just a wet cloth). The front door had something splattered all over it, the glass window on the door was filthy. Inside the glass that divides the customer from the ice cream were covered with spots of splatters. The garbage can out front had not been wiped down for a long time. Makes me wonder what we can't see. Hope they will use this review as a opportunity rather than a complaint. read more

The ice cream is great and the young lady that helped us was very good at her job and had a great customer service even though it was like 98 degrees in there because the window shades are non existant. Come on people give the poor girl some shade from the afternoon sun that shines through those big front windows. You can get a sunburn while wating for the nice girl to get your ice cream. Hopefuly they rotate the day staff so they can all get an even tan. read more
