Ba Le has become our favorite Red Rocks pre game meal. They are perfect for carrying in to the venue or a parking lot snack. I had a pork sand which and it was spectacular. Visiting town, Ba Le was one of the joints we bookmarked to try out. But to be honest, I was rather disappointed in Ba Le. I've had plenty of traditional Banh mi in NYC and was really craving a Banh mi that day. We got to the BBQ pork and the special. First off , the cashier looked extremely bored and I couldn't understand her when she was collecting the money. Now comes the food, the bread was very good but it stops there - there was very little picked carrots, radish, cilantro, and meat. It felt like I was eating just the bread. Not really sure what all the hype is about. Ordered the #3, 9, and 10. It's a good portion, but the flavor's are nothing special. I have had the Special Combo, the Meatball, and both of the barbecue pork Bahn Mi, and let me tell you: they are all stellar! Each of the meats is tasty and delicious and every time the pickled veggies have been perfect. The whole thing is a near perfect representation of what food should be. The baguette is crispy on the outside, and pillowy tender inside, and fresh as... well, it's really fresh. The meat is fresh and flavorful, and the veggies tie everything together with a subtly sweet yet tangy taste. Less saltier and my type than Baker's Palace. Two stars deducted for each of the workers there. They seem to treat the younger generation of Vietnamese like we're crap. I'm self-conscious about speaking Vietnamese with strangers right off the bat and when I do, it's kind of butchered. But I try my best. Yes, the sandwiches here are super cheap, making this a really great lunch spot. I stopped by one Saturday afternoon and grabbed 4 different ones for a picnic with my hubby and his friend. We tried both of the BBQ pork ones, meatball, and grilled steak. Overall, I thought they were just okay. A couple of them had a fishy taste (possibly fish sauce?) which i didn't care for. The meatball had a rubbery texture, but the steak was very good. The bread was perfect, and I loved the jalapeno's! A couple of them did have a little too much cilantro. Fresh French bread, the delicious daikon radish slaw, copious amounts of fresh cilantro, and fresh jalapeño slices. Super hot inside the store, but they had a little a/c unit blasting near one of the doors. Their Fro-Yo machines were off for the season according to the sign, but it was at least 80 degrees outside. I got the #3- a delicious combination of pork, pate, mayo, and an array of pickled vegetables, jalapenos, and cilantro on fresh baguette. YUM. Many people complain that they have less meat, and while I agree they are not necessarily packed like another place we tried, the flavors are all there and they come through nicely. We usually get either the combination or grilled beef bahn mis. The Banh Mi are good here but the ratings and reputation are very over rated. The bread is firm and has a whole wheat texture to it. The baguette should be lighter, crisper with more of a rice flour crunch to it. The insides of the sandwich are ok but lacks the complexity of ingredients common to better Banh Mi's. Awwww Man! I can't believe I was disappointed! How the heck? Everyone gives them such good reviews, all the yelpers I follow and respect. I found the sandwiches on the puny side, with not enough filling. When I can't see the meat and veg busting out the side, it's not enough, It was warm. But I don't know if the bread was warm from being fresh, or heated. someone says they buy they bread from another place, so I'm guessing it was heated. I had to ask about the sammys, I was craving pate and head cheese, but I don't think my #3 special combo had any head cheese. I wish I had looked around first, I wanted to order some of the food on the trays as you walked in, but the girl at the counter seemed impatient, and other customers started walking in. I got flustered and only ordered the sandwiches. The warmth of the sandwich was a turn off, and there just didn't seem to be enough "taste". But you know me..... I ate the whole thing anyway. I kept waiting for the "taste" to kick in. Then I stole a bite from my hubby's sandwich to see if it was any better. It wasn't. (he ate the whole thing though, proclaiming "not bad" after grilling me on the ingredients--he thinks I'll feed him weird stuff if he doesn't check it out. For somewhere between $3 and $4, you get a tasty, authentic, spicy, bahn mi sandwich. Every time I come here with the intention of eating one tasty sandwich and sneaking one into a movie theater. Every time I end up eating both in one sitting, before I even leave the shop. Sunday morning is my favorite time to pick up breakfast and lunch at Ba Le Sandwiches. One reason is because one of the most beautiful ladies in the city works Sunday morning. I really love the Banh Mi too. The number 2 Vietnamese pork is my favorite. FOR A BUCK MORE YOU CAN GET EXTRA MEAT AND IT'S WORTH IT! However, some of the items may not suite the American palate. However, the Vietnamese beef, chicken, meatball sandwiches are all great. The bread is the best french bread in the city. It would make a good poboy if used for one back home. I eat here 2-3 times a week and always will even if the stunningly beautiful young lady is no longer there to make my Sunday start so well. P.S. Another reviewer stated that the staff is "rude". That is pure bullshit. I respond very aggressively to rude restaurant service staff. I have never felt the need to do so at Ba Le. read more

Had my first Ba Le experience last Sunday. I had my hopes pretty high after having a number of delicious banh mi in New York City. I enjoyed it (but not up to my previous banh mi experiences, I am sad to note) and the price cannot be beat. I tried two sandwiches based on reviews - the BBQ pork and the pate. The BBQ pork was very good and when I bit into it in the parking lot, the baguette was crispy and warm. Definitely added to the enjoyment. I tried the pate one later - when the baguette was cool - and did not enjoy it as much. Would go again, but with a little bit of a lowered expectation. It's very good, but I think you always remember your first Banh Mi and that's a hard memory to live up to. read more

I've been in here once, ironically immediately after eating at Pho 95 since they're in the same strip mall. I ordered the BBQ Pork to go, which I didn't realize until way too late that it was redundant to order anything to go. After all, they don't have any tables or wait staff. The sandwiches are tasty and inexpensive, although in the sandwich the ratio of everything else to bread is a little low and it makes me wonder if you should order 2 sandwiches and just eat a lot of bread or have one and have it be a kind of big snack. Had never tried banh mi before but have been reading about it everywhere, and this seemed to be the place to go. It's obviously not a place you go to for the atmosphere but it was very good and incredibly cheap. The baguettes have the perfect combination of crunch outside and pillowy softness inside and are always warm. They have so many options and you order by number/picture on the menu. I wasn't that adventurous my first time I got the barbecue pork and the I think the sliced beef? The barbecue pork was excellent, faintly sweetish with the spicy pickled vegetables, cilantro, and jalapenos. I loved it but I kind of wanted it spicier, like with a huge dash of Sriracha on it. The beef one was....weird, and not in a good way. It had a gelatinous texture and a weird aftertaste that was really artificial. I wouldn't get it again. The workers seem extremely agitated all the time. They don't like to take special requests to accommodate their customers. When you ask for anything extra, they make it seem like it's the hardest thing to do. I came in a few times and every time, I never received a hello..when they said thank you it was very bitter as if they were shooing you away. Today, they had the audacity to say "do you want this or not lady" to another customer who came into the store in Vietnamese because she asked for a special sandwich. When another customer who came in that didn't speak the language asked for a sandwich to be remade because it was too hard, they started trash talking this customer in their language.
