We picked up food from this place yesterday (03/06/2023) and we regret it. We spent the night in ER for food poisoning. The kids were vomiting for hours and the only person who did not eat the food was doing fine, everyone else was sick. I think the falafel sandwich at this place was actually pretty good. So it's unfortunate that I have to give them 3 instead of 4 stars. Well, the kicker was that they charged me for sauce. I can see if they charge for extra sauce, but one little container of tahini was $.60. And same for the hot sauce, $.60. That's disappointing. The I wanted hummus. They don't really have like a side of hummus. It's these big containers. Still they accommodated and gave me some in a smaller container. There was way too much oil, though. There was this taste... which I didn't care for. Rancid isn't the right word... neither is sour. IDK... it just wasn't that good. All this added up to a really expensive lunch for what it's worth. Like $9? I will probably go back here, but stick with only the Sandwich next time. But then again, falafel sandwich without tahini and hot sauce? Hmmm... we'll see. read more

For these types of places, typically located in a dated strip mall, I think the difference between "meh... it'll fill me up till the next meal" and "wow, this was amazing" is the combination of the cooked in real time (chicken, beef, etc.) and has the right seasoning along with some great, fresh pita... The chicken was fantastic. I don't think I've had better. But, the pita seemed a bit stale and mass produced. The portion was super and sides of rice, tomato and salad were tasty. A hidden gem in the area. For my one night stay near the airport I wanted something quick and easy for takeout. I got both of those things, plus some seriously tasty food. The beef shawarma was full of flavor and had the perfect ratio of stuffing, both for taste and for transport. The baba ghanoush was wonderful, a generous portion, and came with plenty of warm pita. The Jerusalem salad was also good and not at all soggy. Prices were great as well. Would definitely return. read more

*Delivery Review* I've ordered a lot of delivery to hotels in my travels, and this place ranks right up at the top. They delivered right on time, the delivery guy was great, and they put EVERYTHING in the bag correctly (cutlery, napkins, and the receipt). For me, this is worth two stars before I even take a bite. The combo plate doesn't look like much, but all the components are really flavorful, especially dipped in their outstanding baba. The app of baba is a massive portion too. On top of that, the cucumber and tomato salad that comes with the combo is the best I've ever had. It's an ugly little dish based on its color and glue-y consistency, but wow, it tastes great! My only tiny complaint was the meat was a touch on the dry side, but I can overlook that for flavor and because it was a delivery order. I'd give them 5 stars on service alone. I read about the place online, read the reviews, and I am most certainly not disappointed. I ordered a falafel sandwich and their hummos for takeout. The portions are hearty and the food very flavorful and delicious. I'm happy I now have a local middle eastern place close to work that I can frequent! One of the employees even offered to help me carry my food to my car (I'm disabled). It's these small gestures that make people want to come back over and over again. read more

Located about fifteen minutes away from the office, I ventured forth since I had a hardcore craving for hummus. So I got the Beef Shawerma and Hummus. Included was the Jerusalem salad and HUGE pitas. Well, for 16 bucks, I expect huge servings which I got...at least with hummas and pita. The beef and rice were a nice serving and it includes onions which is a nice touch. You sit in here, well, there's not much to look at aside from the ladies waiting for their hair to get done at the salon. I imagine the dudes in here stare.long.and hard. every.day. If I could add more stars - I would! I'm completely smitten with Bab Al Salam. Hands down - best falafel sandwich I've ever eaten. For a whopping $3.99 you get a pita stuffed with falafel, hummus, and Jerusalem salad (tomatoes, cucumbers & tahini sauce). You can't even go to McDonald's and get a Big Mac for that price anymore (although, I can't imagine why you would want to...) I've had falafel sammies at other places, and nothing compares! The falafel is seasoned perfectly, has the perfect crisp, and never over fried or oily. The hummus is as authentic as it gets. It's super creamy and has just the right amount of sesame oil and spices. Although the falafel sandwich is my go to option, I've also had the chicken shawerma sandwich and the good ol' combo plate. I would also recommend those. Anyway you go, you won't leave hungry and will always have a consistent experience I will definitely mention that you come to BAS for the ambiance and decor. The restaurant is tucked away in the corner of a rundown strip mall. Inside, you will find a handful of tables and a few Middle Eastern posters and maps on the walls. That's about it. However, the service is impeccable. The owners and servers are friendly, caring, and truly appreciate their customers. If you choose to dine in, your water will always be refilled, you won't wait long for your food, and the server will more than willing to help you choose something off the menu if you're new to Middle Eastern cuisine. As a person who lived in Kingdom of Bahrain for 3 years (Small island east of Saudi Arabia) I know my Arabic food. Actually, I just love to eat them. Only thing I've gotten from this place is the combination plate, which comes with rice, beef, chicken, schwarma, lamb, tomato salad, pickle radish and of course, pita bread. This place is so called authentic and it is pretty close. however, I've never been to a restaurant in Persian Gulf who never served us a freshly baked bread. Not in this case, they actually gave me pita bread still in a bag it came with! Meats are very moist but they lack in seasoning and traditionally, they are cooked over a wood burning grill. Not here though. But I can let that slide, this is U.S. after all. Combination plate is actually enough for 2 people, I'm a pretty big dude and there is no way I can finish all of them in 1 sitting. Now that's typical Arabic food portions! Overall, I'm sure I will be a regular in this place. Although I miss the food in Bahrain (so freaking cheap) but I sure don't miss that 130 degree summer plus humidity. And when it rains, the whole country is under water because their sewage system sucks ass. read more

I often use Yelp reviews to find good restaurants and I usually participate and write my honest feedback. I have rated a lot of restaurants with 5 star regardless of their atmosphere when I note that the chef serves an extraordinary food. As usual, I checked the Yelp and I chose this restaurant with a 4 star rating. I ordered chicken shawarma and lentil soup. It took over 45 minutes to deliver the food and since I was notified about the delay, I did not mind. Unfortunately the food was not tasty. The chicken was not marinated, the rice was too dry, the lentil soup had barely any lentil in it, and salad dressing was very strange, which later I realized that it was diluted tahini. The small plastic fork-spoon combo was the cheapest plastic utensil you could find in the market. I was even charged $3 delivery charge which was not disclosed, but I wonder why the delivery charge was included in the total amount of the food which was subject to tax. All of these little details shows the intension of the restaurant. As I see, they have used every opportunity to cut corners of the quality of the food and nickel and dime the customer. Once they raise the quality of the food and the service, I am sure they will generate more business to make up for the difference. read more

I come here for lunch periodically since its fairly close to the office. The shish tawook is very tasty but I generally make a mess of myself. I will learn some day. Best to come with a few people and order a variety of dishes to share - you will get plenty of food at a very reasonable price. My family and I order from here every Tuesday - And we LOVE it! The meat tastes authentic and fresh, as it's hallal meat. The prices are reasonable, and a great, filling meal. You get a great amount of food for a great, low price. (It's a million times better than Pita Inn, which we used to go to, but switched out for this place.) They do have seating in the restaurant though it's nothing much - we always take it to go. Let's just say that they don't have a 'gorgeous ambiance' that many people want. To get a variety, I always order the combination plate. It comes with a salad too, with no extra cost. I am so happy that my family and I have made this a go - to place. I really can't say enough good things about Bab Al Salam. The food is fresh, delicious and most importantly: consistent. The owners are generous, friendly and clearly in the restaurant business because they love feeding people. EVERYTHING on the menu is worth trying and I have indeed tried nearly every dish. The keftah kabob and kibbeh maglia are my two personal favorites, but you literally can't go wrong. The homemade hot sauce is thick and deliciously addictive and the salads are a refreshing treat. The portions are super generous and the prices fair. The falafel and hummus are WAY better than the over rated, Check Please ruined Noonakapoop and you won't be ignored for an hour after walking in. The decor isn't much to write home about. Posters of Jordan and Palestine on the walls and Formica table tops. While your eyes won't be stimulated, your nose definitely will be as you smell the sweet scent of meat over coals. To illustrate the level of customer service at Bab Al Salam: My fiancee thought she had forgotten her pocket book at home and was frantically digging in her purse. One of the young men behind the counter told her: "Don't worry about it, just come back with the money before the end of the week. I'm not going to let you go home hungry". WOW... Even though he no doubt recognized her face as a regular customer, this went above and beyond any type of service I'm used to anywhere. If I absolutely had to find a couple of things to criticize about Bab Al Salam, I would start with the bread. They use a locally bought pita and while more than serviceable; I can't help but think the delicious meats and hummus they serve deserve a house made flat bread. My only other minor complaint would be that a slightly expanded menu would be welcomed. I get the feeling that if these guys did a braised lamb shank, it would be a thing of beauty. The Chicken Shawarma plate was delightful. Moist, flavorful, the note of orange made this suprisingly light. The rice pilaf was above average, the rice was right on and the sliced almonds were fresh, crunchy, and pleasantly nutty. The side salad was quite weak with chopped iceburg and a slice of cucumber.I also had the falafil and they were very good, nice crunch, moist, and a hint of peppery heat.
