First experience was many years ago with a Super Bowl party we hosted. Decided to have something other than the usual Mexican food. Everyone loved it. Since then Baba Kabob has become our favorite take out place. Last night my husband said their food is so fresh and tastes home made. He also said they give very generous portions. Their kabobs are so tender. Friends from El Cajon had us over and ordered food from their favorite kabob place that they said is the best. The chicken kabobs were ground chicken molded into kabobs. The food was no comparison to Poway's Baba Kabobs. Instead of listing everything we enjoy there, we highly recommend that you try it for yourself. I will say their hummus is the best I have ever had and their potato sambosas and bolanis are so so amazing and generous. First time visit today. Everything seems a bit expensive for a walk up and order situation, but I decided to try the Baba Salad ($14) with gyro and chicken shawarma with the "spicy" option. The salad was large and possibly shareable for two smaller appetites. There was so much flavor! The gyro meat was good, but the chicken shawarma was juicy and probably the best I've ever had. Definitely recommend this salad! The seating area is mostly outside and pretty basic, so "to go" is a good option here. So while the price may be only 4 stars, the quality is definitely 5, so I'm rounding up to 5. read more

This is a super cute mom and pop shop. The vibe is welcoming and as soon as you walk it the smell of home cooking just warms your soul. I had no idea what to get off the menu because it all looked so delicious! I went with the recommendations of one of the workers and was not disappointed. The pita bread was definitely fresh made and SO tasty. The portions are large and each dish is affordable. I had the gyro sandwich combo which came with fries and your choice of drink (there are five coolers stocked with everything you can imagine). Wow, this place is amazing! To be honest, I was a little put off because even though there were great reviews, there's a huge banner outside saying "Thrifty Ice Cream." Ignore the banner though, they definitely have excellent food....I only discovered this place this month, and I've already gone twice. The service is always great and the food is ready super fast. So far, we've tried the following things: STARTERS Potato Bolani: These are great! Lots of potato in a soft tortilla. It's a huge serving for an appetizer, and basically entree size so we had some leftover for the next day. Sambosas: 4 of them, and they were nice and crispy. ENTREES Falafel sandwich: The falafel was crispy, and had a nice texture. A lot of other places seem like they skimp on the number of falafel they include, but this was a solid amount. Chicken kabob plate: My boyfriend got this, and liked it! He added an extra kabob to really make it filling. Chicken shawarma sandwich: Again, my boyfriend's pick and he loved it. Dumplings: This seemed closer to ravioli than dumplings to me, but this was good. It was chives with sour cream and a beef sauce over them. There are two types of dumplings, and I forget which one this was but the menu has a description of each one and this is the one with the beef sauce. I've been wanting to try Baba Kabob for some time and I'm so glad I finally did! There's two locations; Miramar and Poway. I went to the Poway location and there's unfortunately no indoor seating. The food and service on the other hand made up for it. I ordered a chicken kabob entree plate and added kofta. High quality ingredients, rich, delicious flavors and generous portions. Comes with basmati rice and salad. There are several tables out front and the nice gentleman brought my food out to me. I could only eat half of it. Made some great leftovers, that I can tell you. My boyfriend made a stop here to pick up some food for us and the portion sizes were huge! I got a gyro salad and it was super filling and yummy. I have tried several kabob places in San Diego and this is by far the highest and exceeded my expectations. Huge portions, it is made fresh, flavor is on point and well done. It is ridiculously good. It is however expensive but you get what you paid for. The only complaint I have is the space. It is very small. The tables are outside, so if you come here on lunchtime you may not able to seat yourself. My husband discovered this place when he came by my office and wanted to have lunch. I came here twice in the last 3 days. I ordered the Lamb Kabob Entree, Garlic Bread, and the Kabob Sandwich. Both times, the food came out different. The first time was great! I was very certain this would become a regular visit for me. But.. the second time the food had less flavor and seemed to be done in a rush. The sandwich looked just thrown together and the lamb kabob had way too much turmeric. I dont know , its a 50/50 for me. The cashier was very polite and had great customer service. read more

It is made fresh, so wait time may be 30-45 minutes on weekday evening. Kufta kabob plate - 10/10 Tasted really authentic. You only get one ground meat kabob, alot of really tasty. Comes with a salad. Chicken Korma Masala - 8.5/10 Taste is really good. There is not much chicken, more veggies. This can be split for a meal between two small eaters. They also offer family meals with kabobs, which I will consider for next time for $42 which has several kabob skewers, rice, hummus, salad. I can't remember hope I got it right. Not sure why this location seems to be cursed or something but they have typically been replaced with another kabob place. The first one was really good, the second business was okay, but this third one seems to good again. We got the chicken and gyro meat wrap and it was very flavorful and served on a fresh fluffy pita bread. It was a little tricky to eat but just need some extra care to fold/roll it up back up to eat. If you're looking for delicious Afghan food this is THE place to go to. It's a bit of a drive from downtown san diego but each trip is ALWAYS worth it. Service is excellent and super quick.
