Baba Louies was a fun restaurant. It was busy on a Saturday afternoon, lots of seemingly happy customers. We ordered the Greek salad which was amazing. It was huge, with super fresh ingredients including roasted red peppers, olives and even pepitas. I'd definitely go back for more salad. The pizza was a bit of a disappointment. I guess this place is famous for having sourdough crust. It was different, but I found the crust chewy, hard and not exactly bursting with unique flavor. We ordered the fig pizza which the the waiter told us was very popular. It was okay. I don't like it when cheese doesn't completely cover the surface of the pizza. Saucy holes aren't my thing. The figs were one step away from being plain dried fruit. They kept falling off my slice. It had Gorgonzola which the husband enjoyed. The leftovers I ate at home later were very unenjoyable... Be prepared. The portions here are enormous. One of the better places in the Hudson area to take a large group, and they're great for family outings. It's a fun casual place, but there can be a bit of a wait. The slices are fairly large, but the crust is just the right thickness and all of the pizzas have toppings that balance really well together. The place was not what I had in mind walking into a wood-fired pizza joint, but was an interesting place in its own right. Pretty decent specialty pizzas on sour dough. We had the Riccardo's and the Puttanesca. They were very salty (puttanesca has anchovies, Riccardo has gorgonzola), but tasty for their strong flavors. Wife had chicken salad sandwich, which sounds pretty plain and basic, but she really liked it, and the bread used in the sandwich is quite good. The food is on the expensive side, but overall, the organic, wholesome approach to food is the appeal, with options for dietary-challenged (gluten-free, spelt, etc.). Food quality seems good. Downside for me is the lack of Coke/Pepsi products. Their only soft drink is root beer in a bottle. Could add up very quickly when eating salty pizzas! :) I prefer your basic NY pizza, with beer or Coke/Pepsi--the Standard American Diet. :) read more

Baba Louis is conveniently located in warren street on Hudson right next door to the Hudson fire station. Hosts a decent sized dining area of mainly pizza entrees with some other appetizers I.e. Salads and pasta. Known a for the thin crust pizzas, babe Louis also has gluten free options for those who want pizza but have gluten intolerance. They have a wide variety of pizzas to choose from as well as a make your own option. My "go to" recommendations are the dawns salad ($9.50 S/ $18.95 L) - this can be orders family style for the table but be warned it is a very large salad. The dressing paired with the extras in the salad are just perfect. As well at the abbondante bbq chicken pizza. Simple yet delicious. ($12.95 S/$17.95 L) If you're looking for a good site down pizza spot, I definitely recommend stopping in to baba Louie's. read more

My mate has an allergy to wheat flour and hasn't had pizza out since discovering his illness more than 4 years ago. It was such a delight to hear that there was a restaurant in Hudson (where we were visiting) that had spelt pizza crust as an option for their pizza creations! We live in the East Bay in CA and we can't get spelt pizza dough in the grocery stores much less out in a restaurant. Hudson gets BIG KUDOS for this! We enjoyed a delicious Caesar salad that had just the right amount of dressing (not too heavy) & cheese and the lettuce was very crisp and a nice light to medium green color (not yellow or yellow green that can sometimes be used). We did not get the croutons due to the allergy issue. I had the Cole's Creation pizza on spelt crust and the crust was lovely, thin and slightly bubbly & crisp. The arugula, tomatoes, balsamic dressing and lumps of yummy, creamy & soft feta cheese was so amazing, like a salad pizza! The last time I had a pizza like this was at Mario's in Boca Raton, FL and that was in 1995! My mate had the Riccardo's pizza and was in HEAVEN !! The green olives were perfect.....not too salty as olives tend to be....and the anchovies were just right...not too fishy and overpowering of the other items. We are looking forward to going back to Baba Louie's when we are in the NY or MA area again! Sad to think we have to go so far for a spelt pizza....maybe Baba might start up a spot in the bay area....we'll keep them well patroned if they do! read more

I'm not a huge pizza fan, so I probably look for different things than other people... I'm a huge fan of toppings, which Baba Louie's definitely takes care of! Even though they sound strange, the Hannah Jo and the Isabella are really great and creative choices. I've only done takeout, so can't comment on the service, but overall I think Baba Louie's is a good choice if you're looking for something a little different in the pizza realm. read more

I've gotten takeout pizza from Baba Louie's a few times. Pizza is gourmet and prices are reflective of that. The restaurant is cute, I'll have to pop in for dinner some night. As for the pizzas, the plain old Margarita is delicious. I tried a BBQ chicken pizza yesterday, the chicken was a little dry (it usually is on pizza), but the bbq sauce was good and sweet. It could have used more onions, but it was still very yummy. They have a great selection of interesting topping combinations on their menu and those are fairly priced. However, were you to build your own pizza, it might get pricey fairly quickly. read more

Baba Louie's Hudson location is a very professionally-run place, with prompt service and very reliable food. Though it's often as busy as their original Great Barrington location, I've never had to wait on line outside as in the Berkshires. They've got their act down, and it's a good one: organic pizza with a wide variety of unusual ingredients. I favor their Cardinale ("white" pizza with pesto) and their Greek salad, which is nothing like the Greek salad one comes to expect from diners. UPDATE: Baba Louie's has (inexplicably) changed their website and menus to say "all natural" pizza instead of "organic." From what I understand, only the pizza dough was ever organic, not the ingredients, and they stopped buying their pizza dough from their longtime supplier and now make it themselves. This won't stop me from going there, but customers should be aware of the change... Even though the sign still says "organic wood-fired pizza," that's no longer the case. read more

Hudson is full of some great dining spots, this place is one of them! It's decorated so wonderfully and the atmosphere is fantastic. The font windows of the restaurant are strewn with white lights that feel very welcoming as you walk in, and which cast a romantic glow on the place as you eat. The menu is straight to the point, not overwhelming and definitely has something to please every palette. From the hugely portioned salads to the pizza, everything is fresh, delicious, and a little different. Though the menu boasts lots of creativity, it also has more classic options for those who prefer it. Prices were very reasonable, and you can get a glass of wine very cheap. I highly recommend this place for some great pizza, and prime people watching if thats your thing since it draws in a very diverse and eclectic crowd. read more

There are a few establishments in Hudson (*ahem* Animal Welfare Approved *ahem*) designed to bilk yuppie yahoos out of their expendable income with mediocre cuisine, but your pal Johnny is pleased to report that Baba Louie's is not one of them. A lady friend and I ordered the Riccardo's Pizza Famosa. Now let me just say that your pal Johnny ain't always a guy who willingly goes along with the Vegan Thought Police. I have even fired a few bullets at these sanctimonious sons of bitches when they have dared to trespass on my property with their gluten-free pamphlets. Let's face the facts: A good pizza needs a modicum of meat. Factor in the fact that your pal Johnny was very damn suspicious of an ostensible first-class pizza parlor, wood fired or no, that did not have a pepperoni custom job on its menu and you see pretty clearly that I was not Baba Louie's target audience. But the Baba Brigade won me over, much to my astonishment. The Riccardo's had the right balance of sauce to sourdough (that vital ratio is what ultimately what causes pizza to sink or swim) and the asiago-olive combo somehow galvanized the stuff on the top to mimic the tasty constituency of a pie that's been prepared with love and diligence. Throw a bit of Kick-Ass Brown on draft and you've got yourself a superlative experience, especially if you've stumbled from the east with a wild and wolfish look in your eyes and you're willing to gnaw on the fresh flesh of a random animal for sustenance. The service here was attentive. The atmosphere was refreshingly low-key. During the entire time I sat at the booth, I never felt pressured to blow my cash like some incurable addict willing to destroy his life on the next fix. Which is more than I can say for some of the crass places operating off Warren Street. I would not only dine at Baba Louie's again, but I would encourage my worst enemy to do so. I'm sure some of my vivacious Yelp reviews have attracted enemies. My advice: let's settle it over pizza and pistols at Baba Louie's. read more

Disappointing. All the pizzas on the menu here were way too similar and had way too much stuff on them--you're not getting a pie with less than 5 different toppings. And a lot of those leaned towards sweet stuff--balsamic drizzles, winter squashes, etc. not really what I want on a pizza. That being said, the pies we ate were good. Not great, but good (and actually better leftover the next day). The pasta special was underseasoned and boring. Worst of all, the service was pretty lame. The waitress didn't seem to know anything about any of the beers or wines. She was nice but unattentive at best. Sadly, I was unimpressed. read more

Baba Louie's is never my first choice, honestly. The food is excellent, but the service at this location (Hudson) leaves something to be desired. However, nothing else will do when a craving for one of their salads or pizzas hits. The menu is small, simple and to-the-point, but they do offer something for everyone. I love that their salads are so generously sized because they are incredible - my favorite is Dawn's Delight, which has gorgonzola, pears, walnuts, and cranberries. They have a number of pizzas on their menu but you can add or take away anything to make it your own (literally anything, from figs to shrimp); I always order the Margherita with grilled chicken. To go with your meal, while they don't serve Pepsi or Coke products, they have fruity natural sodas and the like instead. They also have a decent beer selection, including local offerings. I'm not very food-sensitive, but from what I can remember, I think they also offer gluten- and/or wheat-free menu items too for those who are. read more

Great pizza pie. Their pepperoni pie was solid. No frills. No gimmicks, just good-tasting, filling pie. The downside to this joint is they don't serve pizza by the slice. Not a problem unless you dine with someone who CANNOT eat gluten. If you are a trooper, as I was, then you are stuck eating some near-revolting, bland-tasting, deep-dish style pie that totally underwhelms. I can't blame the restaurant for how that tasted, as I believe gluten-free dough to be EVIL. Later, I ate the real deal and was blown away by how well it tasted. Driving to NYC from our home in western NY, my wife and I often reach the Hudson Valley area around lunchtime. Perfect timing to wander off the thruway and to visit the charming village of Hudson to stretch our legs and stop in to our favorite lunch spot there, Baba Louie's. Informal, attractive, not loud and great food at reasonable prices. What more could you want? There are close to a dozen taps of local and national brands of craft beers in a good variety of choices. I had a Southern Tier Torpedo IPA. They have wine, though I didn't happen to check out the list, maybe next time. There a few sandwiches and I think, three soups and some appetizers but pizza and salads are the main events. The salads are excellent, with really fresh greens (and definitely not iceberg or romaine!) and wonderfully creative imaginative combinations of toppings. Ours had roasted red peppers, feta, craisins and toasted pumpkin and sunflower seeds. The small was plenty big enough for the two of us. We chose a small pizza as well and even at that, they let us order it half and half so we each could get what we wanted. My wife ordered the puttanesca and my side had mozzarella, mushroom, red pepper and feta. Both choices were yummy. The small is about 10", makes four slices and the toppings are generous. Between the beer, half a salad and two slices I had plenty to eat. For my money, you can't go wrong at Baba Louie's. read more

Was passing through this area on my way to Albany - this restaurant is fairly close to the Taconic. I used yelp as my eyes and was guided to this diamond in the rough. Great food, superb service, and relaxing music. I had the dolce vita pizza, and it was great. I was here late so I can also attest to the attention they pay to cleaning up properly and taking care not to rush out their customers, even after closing time had passed. Not cheap, but worth the good quality food! My boyfriend had wild vivid memories of eating whole pizzas on his own - the funny named one with basil pesto and red potatoes, and it was the perfect choice for usually vegan me. Stopped into Baba Louies in the cute little town of Hunter New York. Seeing as its one of the few places to eat in town we decided this was it. The decor is eclectic yet with a twist of country. The ambience is totally family style.... but the food...now this is what your waiting for... We ordered the "phoebe greek salad" to start with which was probably the largest salad I have ever ordered in my life. Its delicious and loaded with more flavor than a traditional greek salad because they spun the idea of the salad by adding pumkins seeds which satisfy a crunch you dont normally have in a greek salad and put a hefty amount of sun-dried tomatoes which at times was too much until I realized how much it complimented all of the ingredients on this huge salad. The only thing I wish they did do it add more Feta Cheese... its was so lost in the salad between all of the other awesome components to this masterful salad. The pizza... Try the "Riccardo's Pizza Famosa" made with that delicious sourdough wood fired crust which as what drew me in the first place. This pizza was perfect... Light, crispy and delicious! Perfect amount of cheese seeing as our pizza had asiago, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese. With all the cheese it was nice to have the sun-dried tomatoes and the crushed kalamata olives to break it up. It was delightful and not heavy. It almost left you sad after you split this 14" pizza with someone else because you just want more and more of it! I'm conflicted about this place as well as the sister location in Great Barrington. Both places are putting out really good food. The management however needs to get a grip on some of the staff as well as make an effort to put some procedures in place to make it a better experience for all. First, use food runners instead of relying on the beyond harried waitstaff. Second, use a real, full time host/hostess to deal with the rush. Nothing says "I don't care" more than putting your name in and then having the two same size parties that came after you be seated before you. Third, at both locations the overarching attitude exuded by the staff is that they are doing you a favor by serving you. Since this has occurred at both locations over more than a few visits, I can only conclude that ownership likewise doesn't really care. If you can put up with the above as well as being muscled out of place by someone whose wardrobe costs more than you make in a month, well, enjoy! read more

Absolutely DELICIOUS! One of the BEST pizza I've tasted! Regrettably we only got 1 pizza to go as we were driving back to NYC. We got the Cole's Creation, which had the perfect balance of toppings to crust. The crust had a nice chewy texture (we got the order to go so not sure if it's more crunchy if we had eaten in, but the pizza was so good and flavorful with a nice bite that I did not mind it at all and I usually like my pizza with a crunch.). The toppings were extremely fresh (the tomatoes were so juicy), but the balsamic vinaigrette they used was to die for and was the perfect compliment to the other toppings (especially the red onions and garlic), making every bite a flavor bomb. If you are not a fan of feta cheese, no worries, the pizza is just as delicious without out so don't let the feta cheese deter you from trying it. We can't wait to go back and try more from them and this time we'll definitely get extras to bring back home. read more

We ordered pickup from Baba Louies - and honestly we weren't that impressed. The pizza was tasteless, they forgot a topping, and it was a bit soggy. It just wasn't great. The inside of the restaurant is nice and clean, but in a way that screams "tourists come here" and not "nice neighborhood pizza joint". It's hard to objectively describe, but you'll know it when you see it. After we had spent upwards of $40 on dinner (pizza and a salad) from here, we'd wish we had ordered the pizza and breadsticks combo from Dominoes for $20. read more

I think there must be some kind of science to showing up at the right time for a table on a Saturday night. From my limited data, it seems that 6:45 is not it. However, if you're willing to wait, you will eventually be treated to some very yummy piping hot pizza. We split a salad and a large pie (the bianco) and it was enough for two hungry people (and not outrageously priced). While we were waiting, I saw a bunch of pizzas and salads come out of the kitchen and they all looked really good. The other cool thing was the the side tables have these partitions that close you off a bit from the other tables, so it feels fairly private. The caveat is that the 10 or so people jammed into the front part of the restaurant will be salivating over your food throughout your meal. So basically, your best bet is to just come on a weeknight. read more

I have always loved Baba Louie's, but wanted to give them a big Yelp shout out for their excellent service and cheerful attitude during Winter Walk. Anyone local reading this knows what a crazy Zoo that experience is ! Our server was so nice, and our pizzas (one BBQ chicken and one Ricardo's, with calamata olives, chevre, roasted garlic and sundried tomatoes), plus our Dawn's Delight salad with pears, walnuts, cranberries and feta, came out just about as quickly as it would have on a quieter occasion.
