Went with my brother to Babas. He had a taste for some vegan soul food and Babas kept coming up on his TikTok feed, so he was determined to try them. I was trying to persuade him to try Crystals Soul Cafe-my fav-but we ended up trying something new for both of us. I was kinda sick, so perhaps my tastebuds were off, but I didn't taste much seasoning in anything-just salt and pepper. The food here is healthy, non-processed, which is great. I'm familiar with whole, plant-based, soul food. From Stuff I Eat, to Simply Wholesome and others...I've tried a good amount of it. This wasn't my favorite. We also both got a slice of their chocolate cake. I took it as is-no drizzle, no cream filling, icing, etc. but he mentioned he saw videos of it online with some type of icing. It arrived with lentils instead of black eyed peas. Honestly, that's as bad as raisins in potato salad. When I called they said they didn't have black eyed peas that day. There is seating to wait for your food and a table that looks like you may be able to eat there, but I am not sure that is their intent . The place is adorable with a great exterior. The inside is super with a selection of books to look at while you wait for your food and a few comfortable places to sit and wait. I would call ahead if I were you and order. It gets really buy. I am unaware of another vegan place nearby. All of the food is vegan and some of it is spicy, unlike some other vegan places where the food sort of tastes all the same. I've been seeing Baba's on my Yelp page for a minute but haven't been here due to not being in the area that often, but I was craving soul food, It was lunchtime , I didn't eat breakfast and it was only a 20 min drive from where I'm currently at this time so I was like alright maybe this is a sign lol so I ordered a Regular Soul Platter, Banana Pudding and a Pineapple Ginger. Let me just say I'm quite familiar with most vegan foods not having much flavor but the platter was freaking good and it was refreshing to actually have a plate that did indeed have flavor!! The greens were great, the rice was soft, the yams were sweet, the potatoes were perfect and the Mac opened up my third eye. This was one of those cases where I regret getting a regular and wish I had ordered a large. The pineapple ginger was also pretty good too. The banana pudding I wasn't too much of a fan cause of the texture but otherwise it is something I would still order if I'm craving it. The parking was a bit rough but thankfully there was neighborhood parking down the street and I didn't have to walk too far. The ambiance and energy was nice and peaceful too I'm very happy and pleased to have finally tried out Baba's and will be sure to come back whenever I get the chance and try different things on the menu which i'm sure I will like as well.
